Tongli, an ancient water town in Suzhou, is like a shining pearl in the region south of the Yangtze River. With a history of over 1,000 years, it is famous for its crisscrossing canals, ancient stone bridges, and traditional houses.
A unique feature of Tongli is its "small bridges, flowing water, and local households". More than 40 stone bridges connect different parts of the town, each with its own story. The most famous ones are the "Three Bridges" - Taiping Bridge, Jili Bridge, and Changqing Bridge. Locals believe that walking across all three brings good luck and happiness.
Besides the bridges, the classical gardens in Tongli are also worth visiting. The Tuisi Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a masterpiece. Its name means "retreat and reflection," and the garden's design shows a perfect balance between nature and buildings.
For students, Tongli offers a living history lesson. You can see how people lived in ancient times, enjoy local snacks like glutinous rice cakes, and even take a boat ride along the canals to experience the town's peaceful atmosphere.
11. According to the passage, what does the "Three Bridges" refer to specifically?
A. Over 40 stone bridges in Tongli.
B. The bridges that only locals can cross.
C. Taiping Bridge, Jili Bridge, and Changqing Bridge.
D. The oldest three bridges in the town.
12. Why is Tongli described as a "living history lesson" for students?
A. Because there are many history books about it.
B. Because students can memorize historical facts there.
C. Because it has mountains and forests to explore.
D. Because students can experience ancient life directly there.
13. What does the word "masterpiece" most likely mean in the third paragraph?
A. A very old building.
B. A work of outstanding skill or art.
C. A famous person's house.
D. A place where masters work.
C 12. D 13. B
回到文章第二段寻找直接描述:“The most famous ones are the 'Three Bridges' - Taiping Bridge, Jili Bridge, and Changqing Bridge.”
理解这个短语的关键在于后面的解释:“You can see how people lived in ancient times, enjoy local snacks..., and even take a boat ride... to experience the town's peaceful atmosphere.”
定位到第三段含有该词的句子:“The Tuisi Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a masterpiece.”

Conner Wight is in his final year at university, but he still has many classes to attend. He is studying Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson—and how to wash clothes.
The 21-year-old is preparing for his post-college life. He realized it enough to know how to understand literature. So he signed up for(报名)a class on “adulting”. He has been learning many basic life skills.
There are now thousands of “adults in training”. Wright is only one of them. Not only college students but many others are discovering they need help. Some middle schools have scheduled(预定)adulting classes.
But why don’t parents teach their children these life skills? We interviewed many students. Their parents, they say, care a lot about test scores. Almost everything else is considered unimportant. As a result, colleges are filled with students with perfect test scores. Many of them, however, don’t know how to cook.
Sometimes, students come up with their own solutions(解决方法). Neither Belle Lau nor Jenny Zhou felt fully prepared for life away from home when they arrived at their university. But by their second year there, they had learned to live on their own. The two noticed that many of their classmates had been experiencing similar difficulties. They decided to set up an adulting course. When it was first offered in 2019, its 30 spots(名额)quickly filled up. 70 students had to be refused. Last year, there were more courses, but Lau and Zhou still had to turn down 100 students.
Lau says that she and Zhou don’t have all the answers for their students. That is in fact part of becoming an adult. As kids, we could wait for our parents to step in and take care of things for us. But after we become an adult, that’s no longer available to us. When difficulties appear, we must depend on ourselves to “hunt for” a solution.
14.Why did Conner Wight attend a class on “adulting”?
A.To improve his test scores in literature. B.To find solutions to problems with study.
C.To know students from different countries. D.To develop abilities of living on his own.
15.How many students signed up for Lau and Zhou’s adulting course in 2019?
A.30. B.70. C.100. D.130.
16.What does the underlined word available in the last paragraph mean?
A.Easy to get. B.Hard to have. C.Easy to decide. D.Hard to imagine.
17.What can be the best title of the article?
A.Away from Problems B.Back to Basics C.Off to College D.Just for Friends
【答案】14.D 15.C 16.A 17.B
根据第二段中的“So he signed up for(报名)a class on “adulting”. He has been learning many basic life skills.”
根据第五段中的“When it was first offered in 2019, its 30 spots(名额)quickly filled up. 70 students had to be refused.”
根据最后一段中的“As kids, we could wait for our parents to step in and take care of things for us. But after we become an adult, that’s no longer available to us.” 故选A。
C
Dreams. Ambitions (抱负). Everyone has them.
Some people dream of winning a big prize. Others want to travel around the world… Ellie Stevenson dreams of being a singer.
Ellie is a seventeen-year-old girl. She lives in a quiet village in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. She goes to school, has a part-time job in her Dad’s shop and enjoys spending time with her best friends, Cassie and Skye. This is the story of Ellie.
“Pencils down, please!”
I quickly try to finish writing one last sentence but Miss Jones sees me. “Ellie Stevenson! The exam is over!”
“Please, Miss… another thirty seconds… five?”
“Humph!” she says and takes my paper.
There is nothing that I can do now. I hate biology! I dream of being a singer, like Murphy. I want to study music at A level.
“You can’t study music!” said Dad when I told him at the start of the sixth grade, in September last year. “If you want a good career, you need to study science.”
“He’s right. The sciences are important, Ellie,” agreed Skye. “I’m going to study chemistry, biology, physics and math.”
“Boring! Why don’t you study French like me?” suggested Cassie. “Mr. Lake, the French teacher, is great!”
I never told anyone about my dream after that.
Now here I am trying not to fall asleep as Miss Jones finishes collecting the answer papers after the biology exam. I’m really tired. I close my eyes. I only want to rest for a minute. But soon I’m not in the exam room…
I’m on stage in front of thousands of fans. My fans! They are shouting my name… I start to play the guitar and they all cheer… they sing the words to my latest hit…
“Ellie! Ellie!” Miss Jones’s angry voice wakes me up.
“Eh…? Sorry?”
“It’s time to go home!” she says, shaking her head.
I’m the only person left in the room. Everyone else has already gone.
I was dreaming… again.
I feel stupid as I pick up my bag and walk towards the exit.
Outside, it’s raining. It’s spring but the sky is grey and miserable It seems like it will rain forever and I haven’t got an umbrella.
1 ……
When I look into Murphy’s eyes, I know that maybe my dream is just beginning…

根据“I’m the only person left in the room. Everyone else has already gone.”

In modern times, people often take aspirin (阿司匹林) when having a headache. Is it a modern medicine? 26 More than 4,000 years ago, people used dried leaves as a medicine to treat pain. And in the fourth century B.C., people made tree bark (树皮) into a medicine to treat fevers. In the nineteenth century, people discovered that both medicines have the same chemical (化学物). 27 It is aspirin, one of the world’s cheapest and most helpful medicines.
28 For example, Tu Youyou, a Chinese medical researcher, found that in the past, people used a herb (草本植物) with yellow flowers to treat fevers. 29 It saved millions of people from dying. 30 But today, scientists are studying traditional treatments to develop new medicines.
A.They used the chemical to make a modern medicine.
B.In fact, it has a long history.
C.The medicine could prevent possible danger.
D.For centuries, western medicine paid little attention to traditional Chinese medicine.
E.There has been great progress in technology.

26.根据上文“Is it a modern medicine? 它是一种现代药品吗?”以及下文的“More than 4,000 years ago”可知,这里在对阿司匹林的存在时间提出疑问,根据所给信息可知它的出处可追溯到4000多年前,因此它有一个很长的历史,选项B“事实上,它有一个很长的历史”符合情景。故选B。
27.根据上文“ In the nineteenth century, people discovered that both medicines have the same chemical (化学物). ... It is aspirin, one of the world’s cheapest and most helpful medicines.” 故选A。
28.根据下文“ For example, Tu Youyou, a Chinese medical researcher, found that in the past, people used a herb (草本植物) with yellow flowers to treat fevers. ”可知,句子给了一个例子讲述的是中国医药研究员屠呦呦发现在过去,人们用一种带有黄色花朵的草本植物治疗发烧,因此此处是在引出下文中的中医,选项G“我们当今用的一些药是来自传统中医”符合情景。故选G。
29.根据上文可知屠呦呦发现了一种可以治疗发烧的草本植物,结合下文“It saved millions of people from dying. 它把成百万人从死亡线拯救了回来”可知,此处应解释原本只是治疗发烧的草本植物如何变成拯救数百万人的药,因此选项F“研究过后,她发明了一种新的药”符合情景。故选F。
30.根据下文“But today, scientists are studying traditional treatments to develop new medicines. 但是如今,科学家们开始着手研究传统中医来发明新药”可知,这里的But用来转折说明以前和现在西医对中医态度的转变,因此此空应填过去西医对中医的忽视,选项D“多少实际以来,西医一直不重视传统中医”符合情景。故选D。

A.Easy to get. B.Hard to have. C.Easy to decide. D.Hard to imagine.
17.What can be the best title of the article?
A.Away from Problems B.Back to Basics
C.Off to College D.Just for Friends

D. Because students can experience ancient life directly there.
13. What does the word "masterpiece" most likely mean in the third paragraph?

A.Away from Problems B.Back to Basics
C.Off to College D.Just for Friends

What do you imagine cities will be like in the future? Will we have smart buildings and flying cars? Will we have robots that 39 our rubbish? Will we still travel to school or will we study online from home?
Maybe…or maybe not, but what we do know is that in the future, cities are going to have more and more people living in them. Having more people means that we’ll need more 40 , like water and energy, and more ways to grow food too. It also means that we will need more space for homes, schools, hospitals and parks. Perhaps all the buildings and roads will be 41 and we’ll just have parks and cycle lanes above.
Many cities are already planning for the future. For example, Bristol is a cycling city in England. You can hire a bike (instead of taking a car or bus), and ride in cycle lanes which are 42 from the traffic. In Singapore, people are looking “up” to grow food! 43 they grow vegetables in lots of layers (层) in special tall buildings, called “vertical farms”. And in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, there are floating houses built on water instead of on land!
What do you think city life will be like in the future?

Baozi is one of the common Chinese foods for breakfast. Who would have thought that this simple meal would become a leading character in a film, and even win an Oscar?
On February 24, 2019, the short film Baozi won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. In the film, a small baozi comes to life and becomes the "son" of a lonely Chinese woman in an immigrant(移民) family in Canada.
Domee Shi, Pixar's first Chinese-Canadi woman director, got the idea from her own experience. When Shi grew up, she was busy working and spent little time with her mother.
Baozi tells the life of an empty-nest Chinese Canadian mother who feels lonely after her son leaves home to go for his own life.
In the film, many details show the way the Chinese woman loves her "son". She prepares delicious food, cleans up the house carefully and always buys him snacks. These details are true to the strong and protective love of Chinese parents for their children.
Traditionally, Chinese parents don't say ‘I love you’ to their kids. They express it with food or by fussing(小题大做)over them. "I didn't use dialogue in the film because I wanted it to be a story that spoke to everyone around the world." said Shi at an interview.
Moreover, this film can be a bridge to help parents and children better understand each other and learn how to express love.
54.Who is Domee Shi?
55.What details show the way the Chinese woman loves her "son" in the film?
56.Do you think it's necessary and important to say‘I love you’to your parents? Why or Why not?

We grow up in change. Growth makes our life full of meaning. Looking back on the three years of junior high school, I have experienced many changes in my study, thoughts, personality, life and so on. The biggest personal change I’ve ever made is that I have fallen in love with reading.
When I was a child, I didn’t enjoy books at all. Later, my mother always read stories for me and bought me books. Gradually, I began to love reading. While reading, I feel like talking with a wise man. Reading is also a fantastic way to enjoy my free time.
Now I have realized the importance of reading books. I have got used to reading every day. Books are my friends. And they will benefit me a lot.
