A
Most of us have three meals a day. We take food for granted (的确). And we don’t think about it. But experts argue that a food crisis is coming. This crisis is going to make us change the way we think about food.
Food is in great need because of the growing world population. By 1960, the population was three billion. It doubled to six billion by 1999. By 2050, the food prices will get higher and higher.
So, what can a hungry, crowded world do? One suggestion is to eat less meat. Meat uses more natural resources (资源). It requires more land to produce one pound of meat than to produce one pound of grain (谷物). It also requires between 5 and 10 times more water than vegetables. So, eating less meat will provide more land for farming, and it will save water.
To eat less meat, people will need to change their eating habits. That will not be easy. Americans, for example, they eat twice as much meat as people in other countries. At the same time, in developing countries like China and Brazil, demanding for meat will continue to put pressure on natural resources.
World population is increasing, resources are becoming fewer, and food prices are rising. Therefore, we don’t need to give up meat completely. But we need to eat more grains and less meat.

A. what a food crisis is
B. how the world’s population increases

D how to deal with the food crisis

Once, a young man had a long trip by train. As time went by, he started feeling bored. He took out his travel map and counted all the stops on his way. To his surprise, there were over 60 small stations! This made him feel impatient about all these stops. At every small station, he ran to the steward (乘务员) and asked, “Why is it taking so long? How far is the next station?”
The steward, an old man with white hair, kindly invited him to sit in his small office. The young traveler said impatiently to the steward: “The train had to stop at every stop. Don’t you think it’s boring to have so many stops before reaching the end? I just want to get to my destination quickly.”
The steward smiled and said, “I have been working on this train for over 30 years. However, I never pay attention to those small stations. I only remember where I set off and where my journey ends. In between, I just focus on doing my job.”

It is widely known that China has the most advanced (先进的) high-speed railway network in the world. Now, the country is breaking its own speed record with CR450.
CR450 can travel at 400 kilometers per hour on average, with a top speed hitting 453 km/h. Before this, the fastest high-speed train operating in a rail network in the world is China’s CR400, which runs at 350 km/h on average.
Once put into use, for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment.
“The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake (制动;刹车) accurately (精准地) and steadily (平稳地),” Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News. The standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance as the CR400, which is 6,500 meters, even though it travels a lot faster. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds compared to the 2.3 seconds needed for the CR400.
The engineers did lots of tests with the brakes to make the system better. In the tests, the brake disc (制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700℃. Its color changed from black to red. The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital model of the brake system for calculations.
Apart from having a better braking system, the CR450 has the same noise level as the CR400. Moreover, it is 12 percent lighter and 20 percent less energy-consuming, according to CCTV News. With all its advantages, people are getting excited about the train’s debut, which is planned to be on show this year.
42. According to Zhao Hongwei, what is “the key” to CR450?
A. Increasing the train’s speed. B. Making it brake accurately and steadily.
C. Having shorter braking distance. D. Starting to brake in a shorter time.
43. Compared to the CR400, the braking time of the CR450________.
A. is 0.6 seconds faster B. is 0.6 seconds slower
C. is the same D. is I second faster
44. What is the top speed of the CR450?
A. 350 km/h B. 400 km/h C. 453 km/h D. 450 km/h
45. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. How engineers cooled down the brake disc in a test.
B. What engineers did to improve the brake system.
C. How a digital model was used for calculations.
D What differences the CR400 and CR450 have in their brake systems.
46. Which of the following is the structure of the passage? (①= Paragraph 1, ②= Paragraph 2…)
A B. C. D.

People have backbones (脊梁), and so does Beijing. Its “backbone” is the central axis (中轴线), a line that smartly organizes buildings in the city.
In July, the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, India, announced on Saturday that the Beijing Central Axis — “A Building ensemble exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital” was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming China’s 59th World Heritage Site.
The Central Axis in Beijing is an ensemble (总体) of palaces, public buildings and gardens that governs the overall layout of the old city area of the Chinese capital.
Based on traditional Chinese culture, the Beijing Central Axis has a group of buildings and historical sites (历史遗址) that shape Beijing’s old city. This axis is 7.8 kilometers long, running from north to south in central Beijing. This area includes 15 key parts, such as the Bell and Drum Towers in the north and Yongdingmen Gate in the south.
The building of the Beijing Central Axis started in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and continued during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). It still plays a great role in Beijing’s development today.
According to Lyu Zhou, director of the National Heritage Center at Tsinghua University, the idea behind the Beijing Central Axis dates back to the Kaogongji (《考工记》), written before 221 BC. This book explains how to plan a capital city.
The Beijing Central Axis shows the traditional Chinese ideas of “zhong (中)” and “he (和)”. For example, the royal palace (皇宫) was placed at the center to show imperial power (皇权), with other important buildings placed around it to create a feeling of harmony (和谐).
“Beijing’s special and great order is created by this central axis,” said Liang Sicheng (1901-1972), a famous Chinese architect (建筑家).

A
Most of us have three meals a day.

D. What differences the CR400 and CR450 have in their brake systems.
46. Which of the following is the structure of the passage? (①= Paragraph 1, ②= Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
【答案】42. B 43. A 44. C 45. B 46. B
