Fortunately, there are more resources than ever available online to help you develop your vocabulary, pronunciation and reading comprehension skills. Here are four of the best language learning apps of 2024. Duolingo Duolingo encourages you to make a habit of practicing with a reward system and a social component. You’ll receive between one and five Lingots of app currency for each day in which you meet your set goal, with which you can buy fun decorations in the store. Meanwhile, the in-app social network encourages you to invite your friends to the app and compare scores to see who studies the hardest. Busuu It is user-friendly and offers flexibility(灵活的) in the choice of the courses. You get to pick where you’d like to begin in the course. The app teaches you words and phrases, presenting them both on their own and within sentences. As you progress through the levels, it also evaluates your knowledge through quizzes to ensure you’ re learning effectively. Memrise Memrise is unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. It integrates words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember. You might also meet multiple images(图像) with familiar objects overlaid with foreign words, helping you make stronger connections. Rosetta Stone There are dozens of common phrases that are spoken aloud in the language you want to learn, and you have to repeat the words back to practice your pronunciation. One highlight is that it can skip forward to any lesson or let you follow through from beginning to end. There’s also a phrasebook(用语手册) with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around-all very useful for someone traveling. 36. What can you do with the Duolingo app? A. Practice speaking and listening. B. Interact with other learners. C. Earn cash through log-in. D. Buy decorations in cash. 37. What method does the Busuu app offer to ensure that users learn effectively? A. It improves users’ reading skills. B. It encourages users to invite their friends. C. It provides a phrasebook with basic words. D. It evaluates users’ knowledge through quizzes. 38. Which app is best suited for image-based learners? A. Duolingo. B. Busuu. C. Memrise. D. Rosetta Stone. 39. How does the Rosetta Stone app aid in practicing pronunciation? A. By offering written quizzes. B. By showing videos of native speakers. C. By providing a variety of learning games. D. By requiring spoken phrases to be repeated back. 40. What do the Busuu app and the Rosetta Stone app have in common? A. They encourage learning by testing. B. They focus on teaching pronunciation. C. They offer different courses to choose from. D. They adopt themed-based teaching methods. B With a thirst for a new challenge, I decided to begin my language journey and my only regret is that I didn’t start earlier. Since starting to learn, I have made good progress. The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is a test of Chinese language for non-native speakers. In July 2020, I passed my HSK3 exam with a score of 100 percent. I am now almost ready to start HSK5. Learning to speak Chinese isn’t as insurmountable as I once thought. When I speak to native (当地的) speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I also find it not too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters. I find studying the language relaxing and worthwhile, particularly writing the characters. The thing I find most challenging is listening because native speakers talk at such a speed (速度). I can’t always understand what’s been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this greatly. Despite my progress, it has taken a lot of hard work. Furthermore, there is a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency. The key to progress is to be patient . The satisfaction (满意) that comes from simple things like ordering food (点餐) in Chinese, buying things on the Internet or communicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard work worth it. My biggest takeaway from learning Chinese is that it’s not only double but can also be enjoyable. Learning Chinese not only helped me in day-to-day life, but deepened my cultural understanding of such a colorful and beautiful country. Considering where I am now, compared to two years ago, as long as I keep studying hard, I can image a time when I’ll be able to read famous Chinese novels not in English but in the original text. So, to all my non-Chinese friends, I always say “Don’t give up. Embrace (拥抱) the challenge.” 41 What is the author’s regret? A. He had a new challenge. B. He decided to begin his language journey. C. He didn’t start learning Chinese earlier D. He passed his HSK3 exam. 42. What does the underlined word “insurmountable” mean in paragraph 2? A. upset. B. Possible. C. Comfortable. D. Difficult. 43. Which one is the most challenging for the author? A. Writing characters. B. Taking part in HSK exams. C. Listening to the native speaking. D. Speaking to a taxi driver. 44. Why does the author think learning Chinese is satisfying? A. It can make the author proud. B. It makes the author know more Chinese characters. C. It can be useful in daily life. D. It makes the author more competitive. 45. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A Passing exams isn’t a piece of cake B. Learning Chinese isn’t unbeatable C. Explore the historical and cultural country D. Deepen understanding of Chinese culture C A punctual (准时) person is in the habit of doing a thing at the proper time and is never late in keeping an appointment. The unpunctual man, on the other hand, never does what he has to do at the proper time. He is always in a hurry and in the end loses both time and his good name. A lost thing may be found again, but lost time can never be regained. Time is more valuable than material things. In fact, time is life itself. The unpunctual man is forever wasting and mismanaging his most valuable things as well as others. The unpunctual person is always complaining that he finds no time to keep appointments, answer letters, or return calls promptly. A punctual person can be very busy and really has a great deal to do. What is different is that he is very careful of his time and seldom complains of shortage of it. He knows that he cannot get through huge amount of work unless he faithfully deals with every piece of work when it has to be attended to. Failure to be punctual in keeping one’s appointments is a sign of disrespect towards others. If a person is invited to dinner and arrives later than the appointed time, he keeps all the other guests waiting for him. Usually this will be regarded as a great disrespect to the host and all other guests present. Unpunctuality, moreover, is very harmful when it comes to doing one’s duty, whether public or private. Imagine how it would be if those who are put in charge of (负责) important tasks failed to be at their proper place at the appointed time. A man who is known to be habitually unpunctual is never trusted by his friends or fellow men. 46. The correct description of an unpunctual person is that ________. A. he always does things at the right time B. he is always very busy doing things C. he can’t do things when they should be done D. he complains of having no letter to answer 47. The following are harmful effects of being unpunctual EXCEPT ________. A. losing good name B. losing health C. losing trust from others D. losing the best time of doing things 48 It is true that a punctual person ________. A. has lots of things to deal with B. is very careful with time C. is never short of time D. gets through his work quickly 49. According to the passage, when you are invited to a party, it’s good manners to ________. A. arrive at the appointed time B. arrive before all other guests C. arrive after all other guests D. keep all other guests waiting 50. The best title of this passage could be ________. A. Time: Most Valuable B. Lost Time: Never to Be Regained C. Being Punctual: a Meaningful Lifestyle D. Being Unpunctual: Harmful to Others and Yourself Chris Australia Any suggestions? Learning a foreign language well itself is not an easy thing, whatever the language is, only if you can master its rules and put enough time into it every day. Then I am sure you can see your progress little by little. As you know, Chinese has the largest number of native speakers around the world. China is a great country with a long history. Besides, China is developing very rapidly. You will benefit a lot from learning Chinese, such as getting to know its people and their culture; its history etc. The more you learn about Chinese, the more you will like China and its people. In terms of learning Chinese well, I think putting aside enough time to listen and read Chinese is of great importance. Furthermore, you can surf online resources to improve your Chinese. I surely can help you. We can practise oral Chinese! If you need other help, just let me know. At last, always remember “Rome was not built in a day.” Never give up trying, correcting, and reflecting. Hope to stay in touch! 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
