In middle school, I was one of the “gifted” kids. For those three short years, I felt like I was on top of the world.
Then high school began. All of a sudden, I was no longer at the top of my class. My papers were filled with corrections, not praise.
My parents didn’t understand. From what they had known about me when I was younger, they thought that I was perfect, and so I had to be perfect all the time. Their worries grew — they began to search for private teachers and would often talk to me, trying to find out what was wrong with me. My concern grew too — the pressure to live up to their expectations only became greater. I found myself worrying about school all the time. I even questioned myself — who was I, if not the perfect student?
Watching Simone Biles drop out of the Olympics made me think of myself. Simone Biles was the GOAT. If there was any person we knew we could count on to win, it was Simone.
Unlike me, Simone recognized the pressure she was under. She had the bravery and self-reflective (自我反思的) skills to be able to realize that the pressure of perfection was too much for her. Simone Biles has taught me a very important lesson: to be the greatest person of all time, mental (心理的) health must come first. Instead of getting down on myself for not becoming the best, I need to learn from Simone and be kind to myself by taking a break or even asking for help if necessary.
4. How did the author feel in high school?
A. Bored ana tired. B. Excited and surprised. C. Confident and proud. D. Nervous and anxious.
5. What can we say about the author’s parents?

C. They managed to lower the author’s pressure. D. They pushed the author to learn from Simone Biles.
6. What do the underlined words “the GOAT” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. The best ever. B. The most grateful of all time.
C. The worst ever. D. The most graceful of all time.
7. How did Simone Biles influence the author?
A She encouraged the author never to give up.
B. She taught the author useful self-reflective skills.
C. She showed the author the true meaning of perfection.
D. She made the author realize the value of mental health.
C
Kids everywhere love to play. And they know a ball is a perfect thing to play with. Now scientists at London’s Queen Mary University report that bumblebees seem to know the same thing, making bumblebees the first insects known to play.
When people talk about “play”, they’re describing an animal doing something that doesn’t really seem to help it. They’re not doing the action to get food or shelter or another similar “reward”. Play usually happens when a creature is relaxed and is often repeated.
However scientists think many animals and birds’ playing is a kind of training for things they’ll have to deal with in later life. But before this, there were no reports of insects playing.
Scientists at Dr. Chittka’s lab, carried out an experiment. First, they tagged (贴标签) 45 young bumblebees, both male and female, between 1 and 23 days old. The tags made the bees easier to identify and follow.
The scientists set up a clear pathway from the bumblebees’ nest to a feeding area. On either side of the open pathway, the researchers placed small colored wooden balls. On one side of the path, the balls were attached and couldn’t move. On the other side, the balls could roll around. It turned out that the bumblebees weren’t interested in the unmovable balls, but they made lots of visits to the rolling balls.
Grabbing the balls with their legs, the bees would flap (拍打) their wings to pull on the balls, causing them to roll. The 45 tagged bumblebees rolled balls 910 times during the experiment. Though some only did it once, others did it a lot. The younger bumblebees spent more time rolling balls. Males seemed more likely to play than females.
“It’s not clear why the bees roll the balls or whether they enjoy it But the experiment raises important questions about how the insects’ minds work and whether they have feelings. With further research, the future will hold surprises and answers in store for us,” said Dr. Chittka.
8. What is the purpose of animals’ play according to scientists?
A. To find ideal shelter.
B. To receive extra rewards.
C. To develop survival skills.
D. To get their fellows’ attention.
9. What did Dr. Chittka’s experiment focus on?
A. Bumblebees’ categories. B. Bumblebees’ habitats.
C. Bumblebees’ intelligence. D. Bumblebees’ behavior.
10. What was the result of the experiment?
A. Younger male bumblebees preferred to roll the balls.
B. Bumblebees possessed different wing beat frequency.
C. Bumblebees could distinguish balls of different colors.
D. A specially-built pathway helped bumblebees find food.
11. What is Dr. Chittka’s attitude to their future research?
A. Uncertain. B. Doubtful. C. Optimistic. D. Critical.

A. To draw readers’ interest in traditional ways of life.
B. To provide readers with a typical life scene many years ago.
C. To give tips on how to make good use of our time while waiting for the bus.
D. To serve as the background information of the text and lead to the topic of the text.
13. What do we know from the second paragraph?
A. Laptop is more useful than a desktop computer.
B. We are not able to work or study without computers.
C. Information technology brings people many benefits.
D. Without information technology, we can’t communicate.
14. What problem can IT gadgets cause according to the passage?
A. Many students talk little face to face.
B. Many publishing houses turn to IT business.
C. Many parents are forced to learn to use IT gadgets.
D. Many workers are out of work and have to stay inside.
15. Which is the best title of the text?

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Train Your Brain to Think in Another Language
We’ve all heard that thinking in a foreign language is a sign of real fluency. But I bet you haven’t heard that it’s the fifth key language skill that all learners must develop—falling right in line with speaking, listening, reading and writing. ____16____ All it takes is some practice.
Translate your thoughts.
Start by describing what’s around you. When you see a tree, you could think “tree” in your target language. If the correct word for tree isn’t coming to you, think “green”, “wood” or anything else that can describe it. ____17____ If you’re really limited in terms of vocabulary, you could even count people, animals or objects in your head. Anything helps!
____18____
One of the best things about this strategy is that you won’t have to make many changes to your schedule. These are things you’ll already be doing, just do them in your target language! From writing your to-do list to reading the news, there are so many options to choose from!
Read more first person literature.
Reading is so important when it comes to learning a language. If you read books written in the first person, you'll see direct benefits. ____19____ You get to read someone else’s thoughts so that you can think your own! How cool is that?
Write in a journal.
Because journaling is writing down your thoughts, it gets you into the habit of thinking in your target language, especially if you're finding thinking itself to be difficult at first. Basically, it’s just another way to practice, although it’s slower. ____20____
A. It doubles as writing practice, too!
B. Learn to make a balanced schedule.
C. Carry out your daily activities in your target language.
D. Same goes for buildings, animals, clothing, whatever.
E. Obviously, these books give you the main character’s thoughts.
F. One of them is that you will find your reading speed greatly improved.
G. Like the other skills, thinking in your target language is absolutely learnable.

When Lisa was a little girl, she learned an important lesson from her father. Her father told her that when facing a problem, she should never give up. Instead she should try another solution. In the following years, Lisa always remembered her father’s words.
When Lisa was little, she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. It was always her dream. But it was not an easy road. After leaving college, Lisa went to Paris with her designs in order to make her dream come true. In Paris, she tried to talk to famous designers and show them some of her designs, but none of them showed any interest.
Though Lisa was discouraged, she didn’t give up. One day, at a friend’s party, she was introduced to a young lady who was dressed in a beautiful knitted (编织的) sweater. It wasn’t a fancy color, but it did have very special stitches (针法). Lisa asked that lady if she knitted it herself. She said it was a work of a lady in Paris.
Lisa really loved the special stitches and wanted to include them in her designs. And then Lisa had an even braver idea. “Why not own a fashion store of my own? That way, I could design, make and sell my own clothes,” she thought. So she decided to begin with that kind of sweaters.
Lisa’s friend introduced her to Madam Dean who knitted that sweater. The lady was from Armenia (亚美尼亚) and she learned to knit that kind of sweater from people in her country.
Lisa drew a picture of a sweater and asked Madam Dean to knit the sweater for her. Madam Dean agreed. One week later, Lisa got the sweater. The following day after Lisa received it, she wore it to a party in the fashion industry.
Lisa was very nervous but she was lucky. Not long after the party began, her sweater drew the attention of a store owner from New York. She wanted to order 40 such sweaters in two weeks. Lisa was really happy and accepted the order.

【46题答案】
【答案】Dear Peter,
I’m sorry to hear that you find it hard to manage your time in high school. Many students experience the same anxiety at first, so please don’t worry too much.
Here are a few suggestions that might help. First, try creating a daily schedule to plan your tasks. Break large tasks into smaller parts to make them easier to finish, and the important ones should be put first. Also, you’d better put your phone away while studying so that you can focus. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you have difficulty finishing homework.
Remember, it takes time to adapt. I believe you’ll catch up soon. Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】范文
Paragraph 1:
The next day, Lisa told the good news to Madam Dean. She told her the order. Madam Dean almost shouted when she heard about that. “What? 40 such sweaters in two weeks? That’s impossible! Do you know how long it took me to make the sweater for you? It took me one week,” said Madam Dean. Lisa was very sad to hear that. But she didn’t want to lose such a great opportunity. It was really important to her.
Paragraph 2:
Lisa then remembered her father’s words. She decided to find another solution. She thought that Madam Dean might not be the only one in Paris who knew how to knit that kind of sweater. She asked Madam Dean if she knew anyone else who could help her. Madam Dean then started to make some phone calls. Finally, she found 20 women who agreed to help her. At last, all the sweaters were finished in two weeks. The sweaters were all delivered to New York on time. Lisa was closer to her dream.
