It was the end of the school year. Mum dropped me off at the school gate, and, as usual, I hurried toward my classroom. To my surprise, our German Shepherd, Baxter, jumped out of the car and followed me.
I turned around. There he was, with his tongue hanging out and tail wagging (摇摆) happily. I wasn’t supposed to bring Baxter to school but getting him back into the car seemed impossible. I knew that he was waiting for me to take him outside for a walk. Kneeling down, I called, “Baxter, good boy. Come on now.” Thankfully, he ran toward me.
But I could never hide Baxter under my desk. Feeling helpless, I looked at my best friend Roy, who shouted, the closet (储藏室)!” That was a perfect idea. We hurriedly parked Baxter in the small, unlocked closet beside the classroom.
Class began as Mr. White entered with books and papers in hand. Everything was going smoothly until Baxter quietly made his way into the classroom. Mr. White froze in shock when he noticed him and asked “Whose is it?”
Baxter ran straight to me, tail wagging. My heart raced as I stood up, face burning with embarrassment (尴尬). “Sorry,” I said in a low voice, tears in my eyes. I explained the situation nervously.
I had thought Mr. White would be mad. However, he just suggested that I could keep Baxter in his office for a while and even lent me his phone to call Mum. She promised to pick Baxter up soon.
After class, l apologized again, expecting Mr. White to be upset. Instead, he smiled and said softly, “It’s OK, Jobe.” At that moment, I realized how kind and understanding he truly was.
This incident, though embarrassing, made me see my teacher in a new light.
3. Why did Baxter follow Jobe into the school?

B. He wanted to see Jobe’s classmates.
C. He was afraid to stay in the car by himself.
D. He thought Jobe was taking him for a walk.
4. How did Mr. White act when he saw Baxter in the classroom?
A. He offered to keep Baxter in his office.
B. He said nothing and continued his lesson.
C. He got very angry and sent Baxter outside.
D. He allowed Baxter to stay in the classroom.

Citywalk is a new form of tourism (旅游业), and it has become popular in China nowadays. Citywalk is thought to be a random walk in a city without a specific purpose. Tourists do not go to the most popular places. Instead, they try to understand the local customs and enjoy the scenery along the way. For example, when you walk to a crossing on the road, you are no longer holding a mobile phone or a map to see which side to go next, but more randomly to see which side seems more attractive and then move forward.
The idea of Citywalk originated (起源) in London. At first, it referred to guided tours where tourists followed a planned route, with a strong focus on exploring the city’s history and culture in depth.
In recent years, Citywalk has become a special way to discover cities, which is different from traditional tourism. Instead of hurrying to famous, overcrowded tourist landmarks, people choose to walk slowly in old neighborhoods and small paths. They can stop at a small coffee shop, taste local snacks, or chat with the friendly locals. In this way, they feel the beauty of the city.
For example, in Beijing, people can take a Citywalk in the hutongs. They can see the traditional courtyards, hear the laughter of children playing, and smell the food from the small local restaurants. This kind of experience is just as fun as visiting the Forbidden City or the Great Wall.
In short, Citywalk is a wonderful activity. It allows us to discover the hidden beauty of the city and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Let’s put on our walking shoes and start a Citywalk to take an adventure in the city in a new way.
6. What does the underlined word “random” probably mean in Paragraph 1?
A. planned B. free C. short D. tiring
7. According to the passage, what do people often do during a Citywalk?
A. Visit the most famous places in the city.
B. Follow a guide and walk on a safe route.
C. Walk slowly in old streets and eat local snacks
D. Use a mobile phone to decide where to go next.
8. What does the example of Beijing in Paragraph 4 show?
A. Tourists can only experience Citywalk in Beijing’s hutongs
B. Citywalk is a way to enjoy a city’s local culture and daily life.
C. People in Beijing would prefer traditional tourism to Citywalk.
D. Citywalk is much better than visiting popular places of interest.

Instead, they try to understand the local customs and enjoy the scenery along the way.”

What do you do to stay healthy? Do you walk 10,000 steps every day? Do you sleep eight hours at night? Do you eat plenty of fresh vegetables? While these improve physical health, health is more than physical or mental (精神)—it is also social.
Physical health is about your body, mental health about your mind, and social health about your relationships Being socially healthy means being connected with family, friends, and communities, feeling supported, valued, and loved. Like physical and mental health, social health also plays an important part in living a full and happy life.
Unluckily, many people pay less attention to social health. Over the past 20 years, the time people spent alone increased by 24 hours a month. In 2019, a national survey showed that half of U.S. adults felt as if no one knew them well. Another research reported than 330 million adults didn’t speak to a single family member or friend for weeks. This lack (缺乏) of connection is often dangerous, increasing the risk of early death by 29%.
▲ First, it provides emotional (情感的) support, acting as a safety net during hard times. Friends, family, and coworkers offer a listening ear and encouragement. They help us deal with difficulties. Second, it improves mental health, reducing feelings of loneliness and disappointment. Lastly, social connections are good for our physical health, as social activities encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce illness risks.
In short, social health is as important as physical and mental health. It supports emotional well-being, improves mental health, and brings us better physical health. By keeping strong connections with family, friends, and communities, we can lead happier, healthier lives. Let’s value social health and build meaningful relationships in our daily lives.
9. According to the first two paragraphs, what does social health mean?
A. It means keeping a balanced diet and regular exercise.
B. It means spending time alone and enjoying personal space.
C. It is about good relationships with family, friends, and communities.
D. It is about getting enough sleep and stopping working late into the night.
10. Which of the following can be the best to fill in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 4?
A. Physical health is good for social health.
B. Encouragement from others is important.
C. Good social health brings advantages to our lives.
D. Social connections can increase the risk of illnesses.
11. What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce social health to readers.
B. To suggest readers making more friends.
C. To advise readers not only to care about health.
D. To compare the social health with physical health.
C 10. C 11. A
根据文章第二段“Being socially healthy means being connected with family, friends, and communities, feeling supported, valued, and loved.”
根据文章第四段“First, it provides emotional (情感的) support...Second, it improves mental health...Lastly, social connections are good for our physical health...”
根据文章第一段“While these improve physical health, health is more than physical or mental (精神的)—it is also social.” 故选A。

How to be a high self-esteem (自尊) person
Let go of negative (消极) thoughts about yourself. Negative thoughts often come from outside people whose opinions we value. Think deeply about the meaning of those negative thoughts and tell yourself a different story.
____12____ Everything you’ve done and everywhere you’ve been is a part of who you are. Self-love isn’t about fixing all the “bad” things about yourself. Instead accept that they’re all parts of the same whole.
____13____ Pay more attention to the effort you put into completing a task, rather than look for the results. If you expect yourself to be perfect all the time, you’ll never be pleased with anything you produce.
Speak to yourself kindly. When you call yourself a name, such as failure, you reduce yourself to a single thing that you don’t like—you’re not treating yourself as a whole person. ____14____
A. Try to be kind to yourself!
B. Accept your weaknesses as part of who you are.
C. Ask others about your weaknesses and strengths.
D. Enjoy the effort rather than the result.
12. ___________
13. ___________
14. ___________
15. As a high self-esteem person, what can you do if you fail an exam? (20
_____________________________________
14. A 15. Tell myself it’s okay and focus on the effort next time.(答案不唯一,合理即可)
根据下文“Everything you’ve done and everywhere you’ve been is a part of who you are. Self-love isn’t about fixing all the ‘bad’ things about yourself. Instead, accept that they’re all parts of the same whole.”
根据下文“Pay more attention to the effort you put into completing a task, rather than look for the results.”
根据上文“Speak to yourself kindly. When you call yourself a name, such as failure, you reduce yourself to a single thing that you don’t like—you’re not treating yourself as a whole person.” 故选A。
Tell myself it’s okay and focus on the effort next time.(答案不唯一,合理即可)

For example in Beijing, people can take a Citywalk in the hutongs.
6 What does the underlined word “random” probably mean in Paragraph 1?
A. planned B. free C. short D. tiring

What do you do to stay healthy? Do you walk 10,000 steps every day? Do you sleep eight hours at night? Do you eat plenty of fresh vegetables? While these improve physical health, health is more than physical or mental (精神的)—it is also social.
