You know, the Chinese high-speed rails are very famous for the scales(规模). There are twice as many high-speed trains in China as the rest of the world. Cities like Beijing have several hundred high-speed trains stopping at the city every day, much more than any other big cities abroad. And every year when the Chinese Spring Festival comes, about 3 billion trips take place(发生) within 2 weeks. It would be the same as every American taking 10 trips during Christmas, or every European taking 5 trips during Christmas. All the train tickets are gone within 10 seconds once they can be bought online.
The high-speed trains are really great. Firstly, China’s trains are based on(以……为基础) Japanese, German and French models. Then, the scale of Chinese high-speed train is unthinkable to other countries, which has high-speed train network(网络).
I had my first chance to ride the high-speed trains last week when I had a meeting in Hangzhou. The train was really amazing. It is clean and the seats are very comfortable. You can’t even feel how fast the train is moving. If there were no windows, I wouldn’t be able to tell when we were stopped or when we were raveling at 300 km/h. I had traveled on an Amtrak train before in the US, and hated how slow it was and how many stops there were. Chinese high-speed trains are of great difference.
I’m traveling again this week by train and I’m excited.
33.What’s the main idea of this passage?

35.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.American people. B.Train tickets.
C.European people. D.Train trips.

The barcodes (条形码) has greatly influenced our daily life. With them, we only need to give each product a special number and print (打印) it. Then computers can read it correctly. But barcodes can also cause problems. For example, if the barcode is printed not so clearly, a number “seven” could look like a “one” and a “three” could look like an “eight” to a computer. Of course, a “nine” looks similar to a “six” if you turn it upside down. So we need a better way of printing numbers so that they can be read correctly at high speeds. That’s the problem barcodes solve.
Each number in a barcode is shown by seven blocks of the same size. These are colored either black or white to show the number zero to nine. For example, the number “one” is shown from the left to the right by two white stripes (条), two black stripes, two white stripes, and one black stripe. Even if you turn it upside down, it isn’t similar to any other number.
A barcode includes different parts and each one provides a specific meaning. The first part of a barcode tells you the country where the product was made. For example, 690-692 is the barcode for China. The next part tells you who produced the product. The final part is about the product itself. This is how barcodes work.
37.What problem can it cause when people give each product a special number?
A.It’s too simple to print the number on computer.
B.Computers cannot read the number directly.
C.Numbers could look similar if they are printed unclearly.
D.It’s a bad way to print numbers at high speeds.
38.Which of the following barcode shows the number “one”?
A. B.
C. D.
39.A barcode may include ________ parts.
A.one B.two C.three D.four
40.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Products. B.Barcodes. C.Printers. D.Computers.
Do you love your school? Do you cheer on your schoolmates when they play sports against other schools? Do you go to see the plays and musical performances put on by your schoolmates? Do you want to show your support for them when they compete? 41
School spirit is the way you show your feelings for your school. School spirit comes in different forms. For example, some people show their school spirit by dressing up in school colors. 42 Sometimes, school spirit takes the form of loud cheering from outside the sports field.
Does your school need more spirit? A pep rally (动员会) can help! Many schools get all the students together before a big game. They watch cheerleaders (拉拉队队员) perform and hear from players and coaches. A band might even play the school song to get the whole school fired up and filled with spirit. 43 That can lead to many students cheering loudly for their school’s team.
Some student groups take school spirit one step further. How? 44 Gather some friends and work with your headmaster and teachers to pump up (提高) the school spirit. Help organize a pep rally and look for other ways to show school spirit. Your school could even win a School Spirit Award! Just look for school spirit competitions online or in your area.
45 Try showing it by dressing up in your school colors, going to games and competitions, or planning a fun pep rally. Before you know it, your school will be the most spirited one in your community!
A.By celebrating School Spirit Day!
B.So, do you have a lot of school spirit?
C.Some go to a concert with their family.
D.If a pep rally is successful, the spirit will carry over to the game.
E.If you answer “Yes!” to any of these questions, there’s school spirit in you.
F.Some attend games and competitions to support their friends and classmates.

When asked who invented the telephone, most people say it was Alexandre Graham Bell. However, in 2002 the US Congress agreed that the true inventor was an unknown Italian inventor, who died in poverty in New York. And his name is Antonio Meucci.
Antonio Meucci was born in Florence in 1808. In the 1830s, he got into trouble with the rulers for his political views. After a period in prison, he decided to move to Cuba. There he continued working on his inventions. He discovered that sounds could travel through wires. In 1850, Meucci moved to the US, where he thought he would have more chances to develop his ideas. When his wife became ill, he developed a simple telephone system so that she could “phone” him from her bed while he was working. Around 1860, he showed his last invention, but because he didn’t speak English well, few people were interested. Then in 1870, he became ill himself and had to sell his plans to pay for doctors. Meanwhile, another inventor, Alexandre Graham Bell was working on a similar idea and the rest is history...

1.—Will you take the sports shoes?
—Well,I'm thinking _____ it is really necessary or not. The old pair is still in good condition.
A.when B.why C.if D.whether
【答案】D
【知识点】if/whether引导宾语从句
A. when“当……时候”;B. why“为什么”;C. if“如果,是否”;D. whether“是否”。 whether常与or not连用。
I wonder if / whether I can get some advice from you. Ask him whether / if he can come.
1. whether引导的从句常可以与连词or或or not直接连用,而if一般不能。如:
正:Let me know whether you can come or not.
误:Let me know if you can come or not.
Whether it is true or not, I can’t tell.
误:If it is true or not, I can’t tell.
2.Mrs. Green said the plates ________ right away,or they would become difficult to wash.
A.will be washed B.should wash C.will wash D.should be washed
3.The blue coat ________ be Tony's.He never wears blue clothes.
A.can B.must C.can't D.mustn't
can be“可能是”,表示把握不准的推测;B. must be“一定是”,表示肯定的推测;C. can't be“不可能是”,表示否定的推测;D. mustn't be“一定不要”,表示禁止。
1.对现在情况的推测:must be与can't be。例如:He must be a newcomer.
He can't be a newcomer.
换句话说,must be这种表示推测的句型的否定形式是can't be。
2. may be,can be,might be,could be,should be和ought to be也可以表示推测,但它们往往更倾向于猜测。
4.The villagers found a ________ dog in the house.Perhaps it died two days ago.
A.dead B.sick C.young D.strong
【答案】A
A. dead“死的”;B. sick“病的”;C. young“年轻的”;D. strong“强壮的”。 故选A。
5.Jack's mother taught me how ________ Yunnan rice noodles last weekend.
A.to make B.making C.make D.to making
【答案】A
故选A。
疑问代词who, what, which等和疑问副词when, where, how等后面跟不定式。
Where to go is still a question.
I know where to find the boy.
The question is how to learn English well.
2. “特殊疑问词+动词不定式” 结构经常用在某些动词后作宾语,类似的动词有:tell, show, know, learn, teach, find out, forget, wonder, remember等。
如:I’ll teach you how to do it.
6.Jeff has two pen pals. One is from Australia and ______ is from Canada.
A.others B.another C.the others D.the other
【答案】D
【知识点】other/another/the other/others/the others、others、another
A. others“其它的”,复数,表泛指;B. another“另一个”;C. the others“其它的”,复数,特指。 one…the other“一个……另一个”。根据句意可知,选D。
【点睛】the other, others, the others, another它们的用法现归纳如下:

You can’t even feel how fast the train is moving. If there were no windows, I wouldn’t be able to tell when we were stopped or when we were raveling at 300 km/h.

Some student groups take school spirit one step further. How? 44 Gather some friends and work with your headmaster and teachers to pump up (提高) the school spirit. Help organize a pep rally and look for other ways to show school spirit. Your school could even win a School Spirit Award! Just look for school spirit competitions online or in your area.

A.By celebrating School Spirit Day!
