Text 1
M: Amy, do you feel like a cold drink?
W: I’d like a tomato juice. And can I have a piece of that cake?
M: OK. I’ll have some too, with an apple juice. You find us a table and I’ll queue up to buy it.
Text 2
W: Jack has some of the qualities, but he’s not exactly what we need.
M: What do you mean?
W: For this project we need someone who is just as tough, but a lot more patient.
Text 3
W: Can you drive at top speed, please? I have a flight to catch at 2:30.
M: I’m afraid traffic at this time of the day is heavy. You should take the subway.
W: Well, can you drop me off at the nearest station, then?
M: Sure.
Text 4
M: Do you want to come to the movies with Jeff and me, Donna? We’re going to see Spider-Man: Homecoming.
W: Uh, I don’t really want to see that movie. Besides, I’m too tired to go anywhere. Say hi to Jeff, though.
Text 5
M: Miss, just calm down. Tell me who you’re here to see.
W: I have a job interview with Mr. Beringer, but my car broke down on the way, and I was supposed to be here 15 minutes ago!
Text 6
W: Star Suites. Vera Simpson speaking.
M: This is Alan Johnson. I’d like to book two rooms for three nights.
W: I’m happy to help. We have a special on our business suites from December 23rd to 25th.
M: That sounds attractive, but we need to check in about a week before that. And we only need a couple of simple double rooms.
W: OK. We’ve got plenty of those. When will you arrive?
M: We’ll be arriving late on the 16th, but our checkout will be early on the morning of the 19th.
W: Very well, Mr. Johnson. We’re open twenty-four hours a day, so you’re welcome to check in at any time.
Text 7
W: We’re planning a trip for right after we graduate, and I’m asking everybody where they would like to go most. Any thoughts?
M: I’ve always wanted to go somewhere hot like Hawaii. I’d love to just lie on the beach, have a drink… just relax, although I suppose that staying in one place might get boring after a while. How about a trip through Europe?
W: You’re not the first person to say that. To be honest, I kind of agree with you. If we were to go to the Bahamas, say, I wouldn’t complain. But Europe sounds more attractive.
M: Well, as it happens, I spoke with a bunch of our friends last night. All of them began by saying the same thing we did about beaches and stuff. In the end, everyone agreed that they’d rather have a more diverse experience.
W: Well, I think we have our destination. Now we just need to get our plane tickets.
M: Hold your horses We need to calculate the cost first.
Text 8
M: So, are you enjoying the performance so far?
W: Well, you must admit the clothes are beautiful and the set is wonderful, but the acting is a bit boring. What do you think?
M: I think you’re a bit particular. The actor in the lead role is very professional. I suppose the music could be a bit better, though.
W: Do you know anyone in the play?
M: Actually, the woman playing Ophelia is an old classmate of mine.
W: Really? Is that why you wanted to come to the play?
M: That’s only a part of it. I absolutely admire this director. Every play he works on turns out great. I’ve seen quite a few other plays that he directed. They are really wonderful. By the way, after the play, there is a big party for the actors and their friends. My friend has invited us. Do you want to go?
W: Sure. Oh, look! They are weakening the lights. I think we should go back to our seats for the second half of the play.
M: You are right.
Text 9
W: Do you think I should go to college, Mike?
M: Of course, Brenda! Why not?
W: Well, my friend Landon started his own computer software business right out of high school. He didn’t go to college, and he made a million dollars!
M: OK, congratulations to him. But that success story is not common. People should receive as much education as they could.
W: But college is so expensive nowadays. When my brother Jason went to school, his fees were maybe twenty thousand dollars a year. His same school is charging twice that amount now!
M: That’s nothing! New York University costs much more!
W: See!? That’s what I mean! Is it really worth the money?
M: Listen, I agree that education is too expensive, but college life is such a beautiful part of one’s life. Besides, students can borrow money from the bank.
W: But if everyone suddenly can’t pay back the money, then we’re all influenced!
Text 10
W: Right in front of the Minneapolis Central Library, a row of green bikes sits parked in a special stand. Each bike is designed with the logo “Nice Ride”—the name of the city’s bike-share program.
Nice Ride bikes are a lot like the library books that people come here to borrow. To rent a bike, you simply use your membership card at a Nice Ride bike station. Members can rent one of 1,200 bikes from 138 stations throughout Minnesota’s largest city. People use the Nice Ride bikes to go to work, to go out on business, or just to enjoy the city’s many bike paths.
The rise of bike-share programs like Nice Ride is encouraging more people than ever to choose biking over driving. Increasing gas prices and concerns about the environment have also gotten people to travel by bike.
Bike-share systems are found around the world in cities like London, Paris, Barcelona, and Melbourne, Australia. The largest program with 70,000 bikes is in Wuhan, China.
To make roads friendlier to non-motorists, the US Department of Transportation has invested more than a billion dollars in cycling in recent years. The money went toward building thousands of miles of on-street bike lanes (道路内自行车车道) called greenways.

B篇
24—27. CBCA
根据第二段中“But Furci also quickly realized that these fungi went largely ignored in Chile, where there were few guidebooks and an almost total lack of policies and resources to protect them from over-harvesting and other human activities. (但弗奇也很快意识到,这些真菌在智利基本上被忽视了,那里几乎没有指导手册,几乎完全缺乏保护它们免受过度捕捞和其他人类活动影响的政策和资源)”可知,Furci担心真菌的现状。故选C。
25. 主旨大意题。根据本段第一句““Life on the planet wouldn’t exist without fungi,” said Greg Mueller, a mushroom conservation expert. (“如果没有真菌,地球上的生命就不会存在,”蘑菇保护专家格雷格·穆勒说)”并结合本段其他内容可知,本段主要介绍了真菌对地球上生命的重要性。故选B。
26. 推理判断题。根据第二段中“Determined to correct this, Furci wrote a field guide and set up the Fungi Foundation—a nonprofit dedicated to fungi conservation. In her guide, special attention went to the role of fungi in the ecosystem.(为了纠正这一点,弗奇写了一本野外指南,并成立了真菌基金会——一个致力于真菌保护的非营利组织。在她的指南中,特别关注了真菌在生态系统中的作用)”可知,为了保护真菌,Furci写了指南并成立了真菌基金会。由此推知,Furci通过提高人们对真菌重要性的认识来保护真菌。故选C。
27. 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“In 2010, Furci took an even bigger step—with other environmental nonprofits, she put forward a proposal for the government to systematically assess how large new developments such as housing, dams, and highways affect fungi. In 2012, a law was passed and Chile became the first country in the world to protect fungi by law.(2010年,Furci与其他环保非营利组织一起迈出了更大的一步,她向政府提出了一项建议,要求政府系统评估住房、水坝和高速公路等大型新开发项目对真菌的影响。2012年,智利通过了一项法律,成为世界上第一个以法律保护真菌的国家)”可知,Furci和其他环保组织的行为甚至促使智利通过一项保护真菌的法律。由此推知,Furci的工作是有开创性的。故选A。
C篇
28—31. CDAB
根据第二段“14-year-old Jiang decided to help those who can’t see. Blind people had a hard time navigating(导航) objects that are medium to far range. So Jiang wanted to design something to give them a heads-up on obstacles(障碍) that may be incoming. (14岁的Jiang决定帮助那些看不见的人。盲人很难在中远距离的物体上导航。因此,Jiang想设计一些东西,让他们对可能到来的障碍有所预警。)”可知,Jiang设法帮助盲人顺利行走。故选C项。
29. 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Jiang’s inspiration came from the powers of the hearing system. (Jiang的灵感来自于听觉系统的力量。)”以及Jiang所说“I learned in school that bats and whales are able to use echolocation (回声定位) to help them navigate and just use their sense of hearing and I also saw on YouTube some very skilled blind people that use echolocation to help them walk.( 我在学校里学过蝙蝠和鲸鱼能够利用回声定位来帮助它们导航,而且我还在YouTube上看到一些非常熟练的盲人利用回声定位来帮助他们走路。)”
划线词句后文“When a blind is walking with the device, the sensor of the depth camera gathers the information regarding the obstacles’ position and distance. Then the AI system in it will turn the distance data into musical sound guidance. This could significantly increase the walking speed of a blind person as well as decrease the number of obstacles they hit. (当盲人使用该设备行走时,深度相机的传感器会收集有关障碍物位置和距离的信息。然后其中的人工智能系统将把距离数据转化为音乐声音引导。这可以显著提高盲人的行走速度,并减少他们撞到的障碍物数量。)”说明该设备能够帮助盲人避开障碍物,从而推知划线词句“His creation uses a depth camera that can detect how close objects are, thus giving enough time to dodge the obstacles. (他的发明使用了一个深度相机,可以探测到物体有多近,从而有足够的时间dodge障碍物。)”故划线词汇意思是“避开”。故选A项。
通读全文,根据第二段中“14-year-old Jiang decided to help those who can’t see. (14岁的Jiang决定帮助那些看不见的人。)”以及第三段中“Jiang’s inspiration came from the powers of the hearing system. (Jiang的灵感来自于听觉系统的力量。)”等内容可知,本文主要介绍了一个青少年Sean Jiang的发明创造,他发明的设备能用声音帮助盲人顺利行走。故选B项。
D篇
32—35. DACB
根据第一段中的““Most people that I have come across tell these little white lies because they understand that 100 percent honesty all the time is not beneficial. “A white lie, she explains, spares people from unnecessary hurt. (‘我遇到的大多数人都会说善意的谎言,因为他们明白,一直100%的诚实是无益的。’她解释说,善意的谎言可以让人们免受不必要的伤害。)”可知,根据芭芭拉·格林伯格的说法,善意的谎言很常见。故选D。
33. 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“At the same time, Dr. Julia Breur, a marriage and family therapist in Florida, emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the way we respond to someone. The fact is that not telling the truth can result in something unpleasant on you; it’s not just about the person the white lie is being told to. (与此同时,佛罗里达州的婚姻和家庭治疗师Julia Breur博士强调了关注我们回应他人的重要性。事实是,不说实话会让你感到不愉快;不仅仅是谎言的对象感到不愉快。)”可知,善意的谎言给说谎者和听者都会带来伤害。故选A。
根据第三段中的““I emphasize during psychotherapy sessions with my patients that context helps define meaning,” Dr. Breur says. “So when we look at the context of a mother saying you look great when she clearly sees that her daughter has gained weight, it can be acceptable. It reflects the intention of the white lie which is kindness, protection and unconditional love. Otherwise, white lies — especially when told to avoid personal accountability — can start a cycle of mistrust between people, ultimately compromising integrity,” she adds.
通读全文,尤其根据最后一段中的“Therefore, it’s important to ask ourselves when it is and isn’t appropriate to deliver the honest truth, and when it’s best to step back and offer a more delicate response. More often than not, it’s about finding a balance between the two. (因此,重要的是要问问自己,什么时候说实话是合适的,什么时候不合适,什么时候最好退一步,做出更微妙的回应。通常情况下,这是关于在两者之间找到平衡。)”可知,本文主要讲了善意的谎言可以让人们免受不必要的伤害,但有时候,善意的谎言往往取决于具体情况。因此,在说善意的谎言之前要三思。B项“Think Twice Before You Tell White Lies (说谎之前三思)”最能概括本文主旨,适合作为最佳标题。故选B。

38. 空处为本段小标题,后文“While you are watching TV or using mobile devices, keep the volume at a comfortable level.(当你在看电视或使用移动设备时,把音量保持在一个舒适的水平)”表示应监测音量大小来保护听力,B选项“监控设备的音量”可以概括全段主题。故选B。
39. 前文“When you are in a noisy environment, wear protective hearing devices such as earplugs or protective earphones.(当您处于嘈杂的环境中时,请佩戴耳塞或防护耳机等听力保护设备)”表示在嘈杂环境中应佩戴耳塞或者耳机来保护耳朵,E选项“你可以在当地的药店或音乐用品店找到它们”表示如何购买这些物品,them指代前一句中的hearing devices such as earplugs or protective earphones。故选E。
40. 前文“If you often listen to music on earphones using a portable music or video device, it’s a good idea to have earphones that fit the unique shape of your ear canal, and block outside noise.(如果你经常使用便携式音乐或视频设备戴着耳机听音乐,那么最好选择适合你耳道独特形状的耳机,并能阻挡外界噪音)”表示应选择合适的耳机,D选项“与此同时,你会发现声音真的很优越”表示选择合适耳机的另外的好处,为前一句的补充说明。

relationship between humans and nature"(人与自然的关系)是特指概念,需用the 限定。

One possible version:
Mom sensed my nervousness that evening. She sat me down and asked gently, "What's troubling you, my dear?" At first, I hesitated, but her warm smile made me feel safe. I burst into tears and explained everything-the lies about the uncle, the fake letters, and the heavy guilt I'd carried. She listened quietly and hugged me, saying, "Everyone makes mistakes, but the bravest thing is to fix them. True strength comes from honesty." Hearing that, I realized that I should do something right. Therefore, that night, I made a decision.
The next morning, I gathered my courage to tell the truth. In a shaky voice, I told my classmates I had made up the story about my uncle and the reason why I did it. The room fell silent, and I waited for the outburst of anger. To my surprise, Mr. Jayasuriya didn't blame me. Instead, he said patiently, "Vimukthi, true popularity isn't built on stories. It's rooted in honesty and the courage to let others see who you really are. " From then on, everything changed. I no longer struggled with how to be "popular". Instead, I started enjoying real friendships. Mom was right-honesty isn't just about telling the truth; it's about freeing your heart to let others in. And that's the most powerful kind of recognition.

In 1999, Giuliana Furci, founder and founding director of the Fungi (真菌) Foundation, developed a deep interest in fungi. They were everywhere, and the 20-year-old took particular joy in the variety of mushrooms: small and button-shaped; tall and umbrella-like; round with red caps topped with white flakes. Some were commonly found in people’s diets, for they were rich in nutrients such as vitamin, fiber, minerals and protein.
But Furci also quickly realized that these fungi went largely ignored in Chile, where there were few guidebooks and an almost total lack of policies and resources to protect them from over-harvesting and other human activities. Determined to correct this, Furci wrote a field guide and set up the Fungi Foundation—a nonprofit dedicated to fungi conservation. In her guide, special attention went to the role of fungi in the ecosystem.
“Life on the planet wouldn’t exist without fungi,” said Greg Mueller, a mushroom conservation expert. “Because of their relationship with forests and trees, we can’t survive without fungi. In terms of the health of the planet, they’re incredibly important to humans and the overall ecosystem.” Fungi can break down plants and animals, thus cycling nutrients and increasing their availability in the soil. They are also important contributors to the soil carbon stock through the same process. What’s more, fungi have been found to help degrade (降解) various pollutants, such as plastic. And mycelium (菌丝体), which is the root structure of mushrooms, is now being used to replace unsustainable materials, such as plastic and animal-based products.
Because of these, exploration of fungi was expanded at a faster pace. However, some were already listed as critically endangered. In 2010, Furci took an even bigger step—with other environmental nonprofits, she put forward a proposal for the government to systematically assess how large new developments such as housing, dams, and highways affect fungi. In 2012, a law was passed and Chile became the first country in the world to protect fungi by law.
24. What can we learn about Furci from the first two paragraphs?
A. She enjoyed collecting mushrooms.
B. She was fond of cooking mushrooms.
C. She worried about the situation of fungi.
D. She had a habit of writing field guidebooks.
25. What is Paragraph 3 of the text mainly about?
A. The life on earth without fungi. B The importance of fungi on earth.
C The relations between trees and fungi. D. The practical uses of fungi in the future.
26. How did Furci protect the ecosystem?
A. By writing free instructions on plants.
B. By starting a non-profit ecotourism company.
C. By raising awareness of the importance of fungi.
D. By passing laws to ban over-harvesting mushrooms.
27. Which of the following best describes Furci’s work?
A. Ground-breaking. B. Debatable. C. Romantic. D. Unmatched.

3M and Discovery Education announced Sean Jiang from Gilman School as one of the top ten finalists from across the nation for the 2023 3M Young Scientist Challenge. It’s a competition that encourages students to identify an everyday problem and submit a video showing the science behind the solution he or she came up with.
14-year-old Jiang decided to help those who can’t see. Blind people had a hard time navigating (导航) objects that are medium to far range. So Jiang wanted to design something to give them a heads-up (警告) on obstacles (障碍) that may be incoming.
Jiang’s inspiration came from the powers of the hearing system. “I learned in school that bats and whales are able to use echolocation (回声定位) to help them navigate and just use their sense of hearing and I also saw on YouTube some very skilled blind people that use echolocation to help them walk,” said Jiang.
Jiang started with a virtual reality setting and then made it a reality. His creation uses a depth camera that can detect how close objects are, thus giving enough time to dodge the obstacles. When a blind is walking with the device, the sensor of the depth camera gathers the information regarding the obstacles’ position and distance. Then the AI system in it will turn the distance data into musical sound guidance. This could significantly increase the walking speed of a blind person as well as decrease the number of obstacles they hit.
Some other similar programs were alright at finding objects that were in close range, but Jiang still wanted the blind to experience the world even fuller so they were able to see stuff that was much further away than their circle of reach.
In October, the top ten finalists will compete in person in Minneapolis for the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist” and a $25, 000 prize.
28. What can we learn about Jiang from the first two paragraphs?
A. He was the champion of the 2023 3M event.
B. He invented technology to remove road obstacles.
C. He sought to assist the blind in walking smoothly.
D. He developed a new navigation app for his school.
29. Why did Jiang mention “echolocation”?
A. To show the development of technology.
B. To present the difficulties the blind face.
C. To stress the significance of hearing.
D. To explain the inspiration of his invention.
30. What does the underlined word “dodge” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Avoid. B. Encounter. C. Challenge. D. Remove.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. 3M facilities intended for the blind. B. A teen using sound to help the blind.
C. An invention to cure vision problems. D. A competition to improve the blind’s life.

“Individuals of all ages who have empathy (共情) understand that sometimes telling little white lies can protect other people from getting hurt,” says Barbara Greenberg, a clinical psychologist in Connecticut. “Most people that I have come across tell these little white lies because they understand that 100 percent honesty all the time is not beneficial.” A white lie, she explains, spares people from unnecessary hurt.
At the same time, Dr. Julia Breur, a marriage and family therapist in Florida, emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the way we respond to someone. The fact is that not telling the truth can result in something unpleasant on you; it’s not just about the person the white lie is being told to. For example, she says someone who always tells others that “all is good” when it comes to a sick parent in an effort to avoid discussions about how serious their health issue really is, can eventually face stressful experiences. When that parent eventually passes away, the person who always gave an “all is good” response ends up emotionally broken.
Sometimes, telling white lies often depends on the situation, Dr. Breur says. For example, consider a woman who has not seen her mother for several months. The daughter has gained noticeable weight, yet the mother responds by excitedly declaring that she looks great. “I emphasize during psychotherapy sessions with my patients that context helps define meaning,” Dr.
Therefore, it’s important to ask ourselves when it is and isn’t appropriate to deliver the honest truth, and when it’s best to step back and offer a more delicate response. More often than not, it’s about finding a balance between the two.
32. What can be learned about white lies according to Barbara Greenberg?
A. They are short-lived. B. They are unidentifiable.
C. They are trouble-making. D. They are common.
33. What message does Dr. Breur deliver in paragraph 2?
A. White lies can harm both the liars and the listeners.
B. We must respond to our family members truthfully.
C It’s wrong to tell white lies to a seriously ill parent.
D. The “all is good” response is effective in dealing with patients.
34. What is Dr. Breur’s attitude towards the mother’s practice in paragraph 3?
A. Uncaring. B. Critical. C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. East or West, White Lies Are the Best
B. Think Twice Before You Tell White Lies
C. White Lies Signify Unconditional Love
D. White Lies Are Empathetic People’s Favorable Choice

About 1,000 years ago, when Mongolian ancestors moved from forests to wide grasslands, shifting 56 (gradual) from hunting to herding, the Urtiin Duu, or "long song", appeared.
57 a key part of nomadic culture, usually, the Urtiin Duu 58 (sing) at weddings, childbirth, house-warming and foal-branding ceremonies. People can also hear it at Naadam, Mongolia's festival of wrestling, archery and horse racing.
The Urtiin Duu celebrates rivers, mountains and 59 relationship between humans and nature. Singers use techniques like Nogala—vocal tremolo (颤音) copying wind or horse gallops— 60 (create) unforgettable, waving music. Unlike western music, which has fixed rhythm, the Urtiin Duu follows the natural pace of breathing and horseback riding.
Each long song is special because singers preform by adding some things that reflect the 61 (free) of the life of Mongolian people. 62 (local) call it "the perfect unity of heaven's voice and the human soul".
The Urtiin Duu becomes even more attractive when 63 (perform) in a group. A lead singer, backed by three to five other singers 64 (provide) a deep, continuous sound, establishes a grand atmosphere.

As humans, our longing for recognition can sometimes lead us to a wrong way, forcing us to make regrettable decisions. This is a lesson I learned all too well because I made a wrong decision for my strong desire to get attention.
My name is Vimukthi and at 15 years old, I did well in my studies yet longed for popularity among my classmates. Despite my academic achievements, I felt unnoticed. Even though my mother always told me to stay true to who I am and take advantage of my talents to lift others, the desire to stand out consumed me, pushing me towards a serious mistake.
Once, I heard someone talk about a faraway relative who worked a little in publishing. So I decided to make up a story, hoping it would make me the center of attention. I boasted(自夸)to my classmates that I had an uncle who was a famous writer. I told them he had many old books with leather covers and an old typewriter. I called the typewriter an "antique treasure". I also made up the story of his new book called Shadowed Legends.
To my surprise, everyone believed it. At lunch, classmates came close to me and asked for more information. I drew fake signed book covers and put them on my desk. They thought they were real. I even wrote letters and said they were from my uncle. The letters had advice about writing, but I actually got the advice from our literature teacher, Mr. Jayasuriya. For a week, I enjoyed the attention a lot. But lies are like weeds-they grow fast and hide the truth. The more I lied, the harder it was to keep the story going. I felt stressed and guilty every day.
One afternoon, Mr. Jayasuriya asked me to share "my uncle's" writing tips with the class the next day. I was fearful and spoke awkwardly, my face turning red. For the whole afternoon, I was restless.
Mom sensed my nervousness that evening.
The next morning, I gathered my courage to tell the truth.
