Sometimes our onone calls would begin and end with an only inquiry(询问) about the oil, without asking anything else. Fathers have lots of love to give, but it's often provided through useful advice. In my experience, it's mostly about the car. Why can't fathers just say “I love you” or “It's great to see you”? Why can't the sentences “I care about you” and “You made my life better from the moment you were born” be heard? Because fathers tend to express their true feelings indirectly. You just have to understand the language—Fatherlish(父亲式语言). When I was 17 years old, I went on my first road trip in that old car. My father stood on the corner on a cold early morning to say goodbye. “Roads are dangerous,” he said, “so don't try driving faster than a horse. And remember to take a break every two hours. And every time you stop for gas, you really should check the oil.” At the time I thought his speech was pretty funny and old. Dad's gone now. But after all these years, I realize that if I had owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I would have understood that the speech that I always laughed at was simply Dad's way to express love and care. 24. What can we learn from the first paragraph? A. The author wanted to buy a new car badly. B. The author forgot to check the oil regularly. C. The author's father preferred practical care to direct expressions. D. The author's father often made phone calls to ask about the car. 25. Why does the author mention his first road trip? A. To show the danger on the trip. B. To present his father's hidden love. C. To explain the rules of driving. D. To tell a very exciting experience. 26. How does the author feel about his father's speech at last? A. Traditional. B. Caring. C. Funny. D. Old. 27. What can be the best title for the text? A. Speaking Fatherlish B. Making Phone Calls C. Checking the Oil D. Taking Helpful Advice C Each year, people buy millions of aquarium(水族箱)fish. Most of the fish species have a natural life of at least several years. Some of them can live up to a decade or more in the wild. But somehow most of the fish died within weeks or even within hours after you had bought there. For sure, fish are weak compared to us. It does not mean they died for no reason at all. Since fish have no body heat, they are sensitive to sudden changes in water temperature. Water pH and water hardness can also affect them if there is a sudden change. Most of the quick deaths of fish are due to shock. Tap water is not a perfect choice for aquarium fish because of the chlorine(氯)in the tap water, which can kill the fish. So the best way is to just put the tap water in the sun for a few days. Fish need oxygen in the water. They will die if the oxygen in the aquarium runs out. Several things can cause it to happen. The aquarium is too small, that is, less water means less oxygen. The aquarium is too crowded, for the more fish you have, the more oxygen they need. The temperature is too high, because the higher the water temperature, the less dissolved oxygen(溶解氧). Overfeeding the fish can cause a serious problem and kill the fish directly. More food than it is needed can also cause water pollution and create more harmful waste which will kill the fish too. Feed the fish only once a day, with no more food than they can eat in less than a minute. In this case, less is better. 28. What's the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To make the article interesting. B. To state some facts about aquarium fish. C. To bring forward the topic. D. To provide some advice for the readers. 29. Why are fish sensitive to the sudden changes of water temperature? A. Because they are warm - blooded. B. Because they are very weak. C. Because they have no body heat. D. Because they live in the water. 30. What's the purpose of putting tap water in the sun? A. To let out the chlorine. B. To warm the water. C. To kill the viruses. D. To make the water clear. 31. What can be inferred about aquarium fish? A. They prefer high water temperature. B. They should be fed according to their need. C. They can cause serious water pollution. D. They live longer in the small aquarium. D Are you an "I person" or an "E person"? These two personality labels are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters, and there are 16 results altogether. "I" and "E" refer to "introverted(内向的)" and "extroverted(外向的)" respectively. Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an "I" person can still be outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an "E" person. According to psychologists, this idea of acting like different personalities is called "masking". That is hiding your true personality in specific situations. "Human beings want to feel they belong, and they might become people - pleasers to do so," wrote the MasterClass website. Using the MBTI result to identify and describe someone's personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one time. My sister was excitedly making a day - to - day travel plan when I remembered from an article that "P people" don't like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, "You don't seem like a 'P person'." "Why?" She asked back. "Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?" It was then that I realized I'd taken the result too seriously. The MBTI personality test may show something you don't know about yourself and can even be a fun ice - breaker question when meeting new friends. And that's all it is—for fun. Knowing someone's MBTI result doesn't mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don't define(定义) who you are. 32. In which of the following situations an "I" person may perform more sociably? A. Having a conversation with an "E" person. B. Wanting to feel someone's sense of belonging. C. Staying with some friends with similar personalities. D. Taking the personality test and accepting its result. 33. What does the underlined word "masking" in paragraph 3 mean? A. Pleasing. B. Escaping. C. Controlling. D. Pretending. 34. What does the author want to tell us by the example in paragraph 4? A. Don't take the MBTI result too seriously all the time. B. A "P" person is unwilling to make or stick to plans. C. People need to follow the advice of the MBTI test. D. The MBTI result is of great help to identify a person. 35. What does the author think of the MBTI personality test? A. It's a must to quickly get to know a new friend. B. It's a good choice for a conversation starter. C. It's a perfect way to show your true personality. D. It's an effective means of predicting people's behavior. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Crows(乌鸦) are not the most beautiful bird. They don't have a good fame in most countries of the world either. 36 They are also believed to have other advantages over other animals. 37 However, some of these crows may also have small areas of white or gray feathers around their body. And they have powerful beaks and strong feet, which help them a lot while looking for food. Crows are highly social birds that form groups. These groups of crows are referred to as "flocks" or "murders". The American crow, also known as the common crow, is of the Corvidae family, which includes 120 species. 38 In a lot of studies crows have been proven to be extremely intelligent. These studies show that the birds are able to build and use tools in their life. 39 Crows have actually been able to make hooked(勾状的) tools to help them catch food. They are also able to drop stones into a bottle of water to allow them to drink it. These birds eat many kinds of food. And they also keep food in trees and other places for future use. 40 Instead, they eat over six hundred different kinds of foods. They eat almost all types of plants. They feed on insects like spiders, grasshoppers, weevils, beetles and crickets. They also feed on decaying(腐烂的) and dead matter and food from rubbish bins, especially in the winter months. A. They don't just depend on certain food. B. Ravens and jackdaws are included in that number. C. They usually don't spend too much time in their nest. D. Common crows are generally all - black in appearance. E. For example, they use sticks to dig small insects from trees to eat. F. These birds get on well with each other when they hunt for food. G. I hated being the new kid at school. I was tall for my age and already wore a size nine shoe—how awkward! My ponytails and short bangs(刘海) seem quite different from others. I wanted to fit in, but in vain. Theresa was thin but strong, with blond bangs and tightly pulled-back hair. For a reason unknown to me, she decided that I was worthy of her attention, and every day she walked up to me and kicked me in the back of the legs. Theresa was smart and quick. No teacher ever saw her, and within a week, my legs were bruised(撞伤) black and blue. One day on the playground, as Theresa was about to close in on me again, I escaped away. I glanced over one shoulder and, with relief, didn't see her and thought she had given up. I stopped suddenly and turned around, unaware that Theresa had been running full-speed toward me. She didn't expect my sudden stop and knocked into me and fell to the ground. A group of kids standing nearby laughed. Angry, she got up and began to kick me. I couldn't stand any more. So I made a fist and swung(挥舞) my arm wildly. I caught Theresa in the nose, and she was bleeding. I didn't know which of us was more surprised. Then we made a big fight. As a result, we were taken to the head teacher's office. He said we'd have to do a week of chores as punishment. 注意: 1.续写词数应为 150 左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 We were arranged to take care of the flowers and plants in the school garden together. I was surprised that Theresa and I have so many things in common. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
