(2024·云南省昆明市北清实验学校高一下月考)American country music is also known as country-western music. It has a very long history. It comes from the folk songs of immigrants from Britain. Country music uses simple music and words to express everyday feelings such as loneliness, love, and sadness. That is to say, country music describes life. It talks about friends and enemies, trucks and roads, farm and crops. People in many parts of the world like country music, because everyone can understand what the music is about.
Country-western music became popular first among cowboys in the American west countryside. Cowboys had to take care of cows day and night. When they were alone with the cows, they often sang beautiful and peaceful songs to calm__the__animals and to overcome their own fear. They were not welleducated and so they sang about their daily life in very simple words. They played guitars, violins and other instruments. In the south of America, many people added instrument from their homes, like bottles and spoons. When cowboys visited their friends and families on holidays like Thanksgiving, they usually sang and played country-western music.
In recent years, many musicians have made country-western music a little different from the one in the past. These changes make the songs sound even better. Today singers such as Carth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Eddie Rabbitt, LeAnn Rimes, Randy Travis and a group called Alabama are singing and playing in different styles. They have brought country-western music more and more fans from all over the world.

(2021·北京·高考真题)Music has long been considered to be an enjoyable pastime for many people. 35 The mental health benefits from music can't be argued.Music could also be helping you with many other health problems behind the scenes.
36 However, for the same reason, music can be very beneficial if one is in pain.By distracting (分心) the mind from the pain, music, people say,can lower stress and anxiety levels. This,of course, can lead to less pain.
Many people enjoy relaxing music in the evening prior to going to bed. 37 While the validity of the idea is still being assessed, the lowered stress can even be tied back to blood pressure.Similarly, according to researchers, listening to just 30 minutes of soft music every day may help with healthy blood sugar levels, through the lowering of stress and anxiety.
When it comes to heart health, there is speculation (推测) that it's not the style of music, but rather the tempo that makes it so good for your heart health. In one European study, participants listened to music as the researchers monitored their heart rates and blood pressure. 38 On the other hand, when the music slowed, the participants' stress and anxiety levels became lower and the effects on heart rates appeared to follow suit.
39 But there is a whole range of other health issues that turning up the radio could be beneficial for, which is what makes music so valuable.
A.This feeling can also result in many other health problems.
B.Some experts say that music can be harmful if it is too loud.
C.This idea is a little off-the-wall but still has scientific backing.
D.They say it can play a big role in calming the brain enough to sleep.
E.The implications of music on overall well-being are really impressive.
F.It is also highly popular due to the individualized effects on stress and anxiety.
G.Interestingly, the more cheerful the music was,the faster their heart rates were.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·江西抚州·期末)Listening to music can enhance our lives in all kinds of way — many of us use it during exercise to regulate our mood. But can listening to background music while you work really make you more productive? The answer is yes. Actually, the best way to use music in the workplace depends on several factors, including your personality traits, what you’re doing, and what kind of music you’re listening to.
Your personality has a key influence on whether background music can boost productivity or be distracting in the workplace, which relates to your unique level of arousal (唤起). Research suggests that being at a best level of arousal facilitates a state of “flow”, enhancing performance and productivity. Introverts (内向的人) already have a high baseline level of internal arousal. Adding background music might push them over their optimal (最佳的) level, likely reducing productivity. Extroverts, on the other hand, have lower baseline levels of internal arousal, so need more external stimulation to perform at their optimal level.
Research has shown the nature of the task you’re doing can also have an important effect. Because of connections between music and language in the brain, trying to read and write at the same time as listening to complex music — especially music with lyrics — can be particularly difficult. However, if you’re doing a simple or repetitive task such as data entry or a manual task, having music on in the background can help with performance — particularly upbeat and complex music.
Studies reveal that fast and loud music is somewhat detrimental to complex tasks, like reading comprehension, whereas soft and slow music has been shown to promote the completion of tasks requiring critical thinking skills. Other research found that listening to calming music can have benefits for memory, while aggressive and unpleasant music can have the opposite effect. However, these effects also depend on your personality, your familiarity with the music, and your musical preferences.
Music can be beneficial to your attention, mood and motivation. Choosing music that makes you feel good will likely help boost your performance in the workplace.
1.What can be inferred about introverts and their preference for background music?
A.They need complex music to stay focused.
B.They would perform better with loud music.
C.They might prefer silence to avoid overstimulation.
D.They benefit equally from all types of background music.
2.What kind of music is the most helpful when you do simple tasks?
A.Soft and slow music. B.Upbeat and complex music.
C.Classical music without lyrics. D.Nature sounds like rain or waves.
3.What does the underlined word “detrimental” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Beneficial. B.Appropriate. C.Unique. D.Harmful
4.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Music: Language We All Speak
B.Musical Preference: Think Before You Leap
C.Music’s Impact: It Depends
D.Aggressive Music: Memory Killer
Passage 2
(24-25高一下·福建宁德·期末)When you go to the gym, you usually bring three things: a water bottle, sports shoes, and headphones. In fact, many people feel they can’t exercise without music. Surprisingly, 68% of regular exercisers say they would cancel a workout if they forgot their headphones. 1
Scientists have studied this and found that music can really help you exercise longer. A study in 2022 showed that people who listened to upbeat music during their workouts exercised 15% longer than those who didn’t listen to music. 2 So, if you want to exercise longer, try listening to upbeat music!
3 Fast-paced music, like songs with 120 to 140 beats per minute, works best for high-intensity (高强度的) training. It helps you move faster without feeling too tired. This is because your brain and body work together better with the right music.
Music also helps you feel less pain when you exercise. 4 This is called “auditory masking.” It helps you stay focused on your workout goals. If you listen to music you like, it can make you feel even better and more determined.
Music is not just for fun. 5 Surveys show that 78% of people feel more satisfied with their workouts when they listen to music. So, the next time you exercise, don’t forget your headphones. The right playlist might be the best workout partner you have!
A.The speed of the music is very important.
B.Music also helps you feel more determined.
C.It can also help you enjoy your workout more.
D.This shows how important music is for exercise.
E.Fast music lowers the intensity of your workouts.
F.Music listening focuses the brain on sound rather than pain
G.This is because music rhythm matches body movements and keeps you going.

Passage 5
(24-25高二下·山东济南·阶段练习)Music was always a big part of our family DNA.A lot of my childhood memories are of my parents having parties and hosting loads of people — family, friends and neighbours. We would listen to tunes all night.
Despite being exposed (接触) to so much socializing growing up, I was shy. I used to sing, but only ever in my room by myself. My parents would encourage me to perform songs for their friends. I was 13 before I was able to perform confidently in front of other people. With the singing I really started to come out of my shell.
There was an after-school club called Ladders where I could sing and write songs, and I loved it, because as a mixed-race kid, I wanted to fit in. Other students would sometimes comment on my curly hair, so I didn’t want to wear it natural because I worried that it might draw too much attention. Then one day I just thought: “This is my hair. I’m proud of it.” I stopped worrying about what other people thought and fully accepted who I was.
When I was 16, I started a group called Addictive Ladies with some friends from Ladders. We applied for X Factor, the televised singing competition. We ended up getting into the live show. We got booted out in the first week, but I knew from that moment that singing was what I wanted to do. I wanted more.
By the time I went on X Factor for the second time, I was 26 and shot to fame as a finalist. As a singer I have released two collections of songs, with European chart hit single reaching number three in the UK singles chart.
I feel so proud of everything I’ve achieved, but there’s still that little girl’s voice inside me, the one that says: “Oh no, maybe you’re not good enough. Who is going to come to your show? Who is going to buy your music?” Over the years, I have learned how to quieten that voice, because the love and the passion for what I do is greater than the fear. But I don’t want to lose her totally. She is why I’m as grounded as I am. I’m very aware of where I am from, where it all began.

Passage 6
(24-25高一下·河南南阳·期末)The spotlight shines brightly on the dancers as they gracefully leap across the stage. But what sets this performance apart from others is not just the skill and grace of the dancers but the unique and meaningful use of recycled materials in their costumes and set design.
The famous Japanese ballet company, K-Ballet, recently showed their new production Plastic, which aims to raise awareness about the global plastic pollution issue. The costumes worn by the dancers are made from used bubble wrap (气泡膜), the stage is surrounded by four huge walls built from recycled plastic bottles, and even the 100 umbrellas used in the performance were found abandoned (被遗弃的) in the streets of Tokyo.
The dancers, including guest star Julian MacKay, look like space-age creatures with hand-cleaned plastic bottles tied to their bodies as they dance on stage. MacKay, from the United States, notes that the issue of plastic waste “really hasn’t gotten that spotlight” in the dance world and believes that the performing arts can inspire people to take action.
The problem of plastic waste is an urgent one. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), plastic waste has doubled globally in the past 20 years, and only 9 percent of it is successfully recycled. The United Nations predicts that the amount of plastic entering the oceans will nearly triple (成为三倍) by 2040.
K-Ballet plans to keep its costumes and set design for at least a year with the hope of restaging the show and after that, the bottles will be recycled by Shirai, a waste management company. The show’s experience and message moved audience members who attended the performance. Ayumi Kisaki, a 30-year-old actor, said, “It’s an issue I don't usually think about. But these dancers stressing the issue of plastic call me and all of us to find ways to recycle and reuse the plastic.”
1.How did K-Ballet draw the public’s attention to its Plastic?
A.By applying new equipment and set design.
B.By showing new plastic products on the stage.
C.By creatively using recycled materials in dance.
D.By inviting American dance star Julian MacKay.
2.What can be inferred from Julian MacKay’s comment about Plastic?
A.It is the best art in the dance world.
B.It is a pressing performance to the audience.
C.It will inspire more people to take up dancing.
D.It integrates art with environmental protection.
3.What’s the function of paragraph 4?

Passage 7
(24-25高一下·重庆·期末)From a talented child to entertainment all-star, award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend makes success look easy. His background provides plenty of reasons for his musical abilities.
He was born on December 28, 1978, into a very musical family, all active participants in the church. John’s grandmother played the organ, his mother directed the church choir and his father and brother played the drums.
During John’s boyhood, his mother taught him at home for a few years. His grandmother discovered the child’s musical genius when he was 4 and began to give him piano lessons. By age 6, he was singing in the church choir. According to John, “I knew from a pretty early age that I wanted to keep making music.”
Besides his love of music, he had a strong desire to learn. He excelled at school, skipped two grades and entered high school at age 12. And at 16, he graduated second in his class. He received offers from Harvard and scholarships from Georgetown University.
After college John worked as a business consultant during the day. At night he played music, meeting many big-name musicians. When he met and began writing music with Kanye West in 2001, a music career suddenly felt possible.
In 2004 he released his first album and won his first Grammy Award! Since then he has collected nine more. In 2018 Legend became one of the youngest people and the first African-American man to complete an EGOT.
Legend has used his fame to help those in need and to promote school reform, involved in a large number of charitable organizations. Despite all of Legend’s accomplishments, he seldom talks much about his own abilities. On his album, Darkness and Light, he sang, “Legend is just a name; I know better than to be so proud.” In reality, though, the accomplished musician has lived up to his name and become a legend in his time.

35.空格后说“The mental health benefits from music can't be argued”(音乐对心理健康的益处是毋庸置疑的),F选项It is also highly popular due to the individualized effects on stress and anxiety中的stress and anxiety照应了mental health benefits,因此F选项切合题意,故选F。
36.空格后说“However,for the same reason, music can be very beneficial if one is in pain”(然而,出于同样的原因,当一个人处于痛苦中时,音乐是非常有益的),However表转折,因此空格处为对音乐的负面评价,B选项Some experts say that music can be harmful if it is too loud中的harmful就是负面评价,因此B选项切合题意,故选B。
37.空格前说“Many people enjoy relaxing music in the evening prior to going to bed”(许多人喜欢在晚上睡觉前听些轻松的音乐),D选项They say it can play a big role in calming the brain enough to sleep中的sleep和going to bed相呼应,因此D选项切合题意,故选D。
38.空格前说“In one European study, participants listened to music as the researchers monitored their heart rates and blood pressure”(在欧洲的一项研究中,参与者听音乐,研究人员监测他们的心率和血压),G选项Interestingly, the more cheerful the music was,the faster their heart rates were中的heart rates和前面的heart rates相照应,因此G选项切合题意,故选G。
39.空格后说“But there is a whole range of other health issues that turning up the radio could be beneficial for, which is what makes music so valuable”(但是,开着收音机还可以对一系列其他的健康问题有益,这就是音乐如此有价值的原因),因此本段讲的是音乐对身体总的好处,E选项The implications of music on overall well-being are really impressive讲的是音乐对整体健康的影响是非常令人印象深刻的,因此E选项切合题意,故选E。

· 示例:第 36 题中 “However” 表转折,空格处需与后文 “music can be beneficial” 形成对立,B 选项 “music can be harmful” 符合转折逻辑。
· 示例:第 39 题位于段首,后文 “But” 转折后强调 “music benefits a range of health issues”,E 选项 “The implications of music on overall well-being” 概括了 “音乐对整体健康的影响”,与段落主旨一致。
· 示例:第 37 题 D 选项 “They say it can calm the brain” 中,“They” 指代前文 “Many people”,“it” 指代 “relaxing music”,与空格前 “enjoy relaxing music prior to bed” 形成连贯逻辑。

根据第二段中的“Introverts (内向的人) already have a high baseline level of internal arousal. Adding background music might push them over their optimal (最佳的) level, likely reducing productivity.(内向的人本身就有较高的内在兴奋基线水平。添加背景音乐可能会让他们超过最佳水平,从而可能降低工作效率)”可知,内向的人可能更喜欢安静,以避免过度刺激。故选C项。
2.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“However, if you’re doing a simple or repetitive task such as data entry or a manual task, having music on in the background can help with performance — particularly upbeat and complex music.(然而,如果你在做简单或重复性的任务,如数据录入或体力劳动,播放背景音乐有助于提高表现——尤其是欢快复杂的音乐)”可知,做简单任务时,欢快复杂的音乐最有帮助。故选B项。
根据第四段中的“Studies reveal that fast and loud music is somewhat detrimental to complex tasks, like reading comprehension, whereas soft and slow music has been shown to promote the completion of tasks requiring critical thinking skills.(研究表明,快速且大声的音乐对阅读理解等复杂任务有些detrimental,而轻柔缓慢的音乐则有助于完成需要批判性思维能力的任务)”可知,前后句为对比关系,“detrimental”与“promote”意思相反,意为“有害的”。故选D项。
【答案】1.D 2.G 3.A 4.F 5.C
1.前文提到“Surprisingly, 68% of regular exercisers say they would cancel a workout if they forgot their headphones. (令人惊讶的是,68%的规律锻炼者说,他们会因忘记耳机取消训练。)”指出68%的规律锻炼者会因忘记耳机取消训练,这说明音乐对锻炼者来说很重要,由此可知,此处需总结音乐对运动的重要性。D项“这表明音乐对锻炼多么重要。”能承上启下,故选D。
2.前文指出“A study in 2022 showed that people who listened to upbeat music during their workouts exercised 15% longer than those who didn’t listen to music. (2022年的一项研究显示,在锻炼时听欢快音乐的人比不听音乐的人多锻炼了15%的时间。)”指出研究表明在锻炼时听欢快的音乐能让你持续运动,由此可知,空处承接上文,指出音乐延长运动时间的原因。G项“因为音乐节奏与身体动作同步,让你持续运动。”符合科学解释,故选G。

5.后文“Surveys show that 78% of people feel more satisfied with their workouts when they listen to music. So, the next time you exercise, don’t forget your headphones. The right playlist might be the best workout partner you have! (调查显示,78%的人在锻炼时听音乐感觉更满意。所以,下次你锻炼时,不要忘了带上耳机。正确的播放列表可能是最好的锻炼伙伴!)”用78%的人因音乐对锻炼更满意的数据作证,由此可知,空处需要引起下文,即需要总结音乐的非娱乐性功能。C项“它还能让你更享受锻炼。”与后文满意度调查形成因果链,故选C。

A.By applying new equipment and set design.
B.By showing new plastic products on the stage.

The costumes worn by the dancers are made from used bubble wrap (气泡膜), the stage is surrounded by four huge walls built from recycled plastic bottles, and even the 100 umbrellas used in the performance were found abandoned (被遗弃的) in the streets of Tokyo.(日本著名芭蕾舞团K-Ballet最近展示了他们的新作品《塑料》,旨在提高人们对全球塑料污染问题的认识。
