Self-driving cars first caught wide 16 in the country in 2015. That year, Volvo, a carmaker from Sweden, tested such cars in Beijing. Later, Chinese businesses 17 Baidu started making self-driving cars, too.
Right now, China is on its way to 18 the world’s largest market for self-driving cars. By 2040, China will have 12 million robot taxis, followed by the US with around 7 million, according to China Daily.

These situations might seem funny 22 can actually be dangerous. If a robot car has a big accident, it can’t decide what to do next on its own and has to 23 someone to come and help. Also, it’s not clear who should be responsible when something goes wrong—the company that owns the robot car, the person 24 designed it, or both.

Memory is the brain’s ability to remember the past. It falls into three types: sensory, short term and long term (感觉记忆、短期记忆和长期记忆). When you look at a page of a magazine, close your eyes and try to remember what it looks like. Your ability to remember what this page looks like is an example of your sensory memory. Sensory memory takes information from the environment, through human senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. Sensory memory can take a lot of information, but information is only stored for a very short time, from 0.5 to 4 seconds.
Can you remember the last thing you did before reading this passage? That’s your short-term memory. Its lasting time is about 5 to 10 seconds unless you actively try to remember information by repeating it. So the less important things may decay over time while more important things can end up in the long-term memory. Long-term memory is where you hold all your memories. One goal of learning is to get information into long-term memory, so you can use it later.
Your senses are receiving information all the time. Electrical and chemical signals (电信号和化学信号) travel from your eyes, ears, nose, touch and taste senses and the brain then tries to understand these signals. In this way, you are going through the experience of remembering things.
25.How does the writer explain sensory memory?
A.By listing numbers. B.By asking questions.
C.By giving examples. D.By making comparison.
26.What does the underlined word “decay” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.come in B.go away C.come out D.go back
27.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.How we can remember things.
B.How our senses store things.
C.How electrical and chemical signals work.
D.How our brain makes sense of the signals.
B
Personal characters
In the hallway of Lincoln High School, four students are talking and laughing happily. They are good friends with completely different characters.
Almost every friend group has a parent. Emily is certainly the most responsible one among her friends. When they hang out with Emily, they don’t need to worry about anything. She always has plans and makes sure things go well. And if someone wants to find a person to talk to, Emily is always there to listen to them. If someone needs advice, Emily is the first person they go to.
Alex, however, is a quiet but talented boy. He doesn’t talk much and he usually spends most of his free time reading in the school library, so he does well in exams.
When his friends have some difficult problems in study, Alex is often ready to help them out. Students are all surprised at his intellect and great problem-solving skills.
Liam is a born leader. He is cheerful and outgoing. He joins all kinds of clubs at school, including the music and the art clubs. At the same time, Liam likes to take part in outdoor activities. He often organizes school trips, cycling races and other interesting games. All the students would like to play with him.
This makes Liam a popular star at school.
Sophia is friendly and kind-hearted. She does different volunteer work after school. On Monday and Friday, Sophia goes to the children’s hospital. On Wednesday, she visits dogs and cats in an animal shelter (收容所) bringing them food. At the weekend, she helps clean up the neighborhood and look after the old people.
28.What do we know about Emily?

Only the photographs on the fireplace really showed how much time had passed. Ten years ago, there had been lots of pictures of what looked like a large pink beach ball wearing different-coloured bobble hats—but Dudley Dursley was no longer a baby, and now the photographs showed a large, blond boy riding his first bicycle, on the road at the fair, playing a computer game with his father, being hugged and kissed by his mother. The room held no sign at all that another boy lived in the house, too.
Yet Harry Potter was still there, asleep at the moment, but not for long. His Aunt Petunia was awake and it was her shrill voice which made the first noise of the day.
“Up! Get up! Now!”
Harry woke with a start. His aunt knocked on the door again.
“Up!” she screamed. Harry heard her walking towards the kitchen and then the sound of the frying pan being put on the cooker. He rolled on to his back and tried to remember the dream he had been having. It had been a good one. There had been a flying motorbike in it. He had a funny feeling he’d had the same dream before.
His aunt was back outside the door.
“Are you up yet?” she demanded.
“Nearly,” said Harry.
“Well, get a move on, I want you to look after the bacon. And don’t you dare let it burn, I want everything perfect on Duddy’s birthday.”
Harry groaned.
“What did you say?” his aunt snapped through the door.
“Nothing, nothing...”
Dudley’s birthday—how could he have forgotten? Harry got slowly out of bed and started looking for socks. He found a pair under his bed and, after pulling a spider off one of them, put them on. Harry was used to spiders, because the cupboard under the stairs was full of them, and that was where he slept.
When he was dressed he went down the hall into the kitchen. The table was almost hidden beneath all Dudley’s birthday presents. It looked as though Dudley had got the new computer he wanted, not to mention the second television and the racing bike. Exactly why Dudley wanted a racing bike was a mystery to Harry, as Dudley was very fat and hated exercise-unless of course it including boxing somebody. Dudley’s favourite punch-bag was Harry, but he couldn’t often catch him. Harry didn’t look it, but he was very fast.
31.Which word can we suitably use to describe Dudley?
A.Self-centered B.Friendly C.Sporty D.Dirty
32.How did harry feel when his aunt asked him to wake up over and over again?
A.Angry B.Afraid C.Upset D.Impatient
33.What can we infer from the excerpt above?
A.His life may be very comfortable although the environment is not good.
B.Harry may fight with her aunt every day in order to live better.
C.Dudley may like practicing boxing with Harry very much.
D.Harry may not has his own house to live and he may be a child without parents.

Shari was so excited for her birthday. She thought about the fun party she was going to have and the presents she would get. However, her mom told her that she had to make room for new toys by choosing some old toys to give away.
Shari was not happy. She loved all of her toys! Her mom sat down with her in front of her toy box. They looked through the toys one at a time. Shari wanted to keep most of the toys and her mom put them in the “keep” pile. When they got about halfway through the toy box, Shari saw one stuffed animal that she had forgotten about.
“Oh, look, how cute he is! Keep him, please,” she told her mom.
“Shari, you forgot about him. Are you sure you will really play with him again? What if you get a new stuffed animal that you like better?” Mom asked.
“Well, now I remember him. I will play with him.”
“That’s fine, but there might be someone else out there who would love to have him. Some kids don’t have any stuffed animals,” said Mom. Shari said she would decide later.
When they finished, there was a very large “keep” pile, and some toys in the “donate” and “maybe” piles. Mom and Shari cleaned the “maybe” and “donate” toys, then put them in bags. They went to a place where kids lived, who didn’t have homes and asked the workers if they could hand out toys. Seeing the kids’ smiles made Shari so happy, and a lot of kids said this was the only toy they had. Shari turned to her mom and asked if they could get the “maybe” bag out of the car. The other kids needed those toys more than she did! Shari felt so great that her choice made the other kids so happy.

【答案】25.C 26.B 27.A

27.主旨大意题。根据第三段“In this way, you are going through the experience of remembering things.”可知,本段主要讲了我们如何记住东西。故选A。

C

51.I (suggest) that you should spend less time on your hobbies.
【答案】suggest
【难度】0.4
【知识点】表示经常性动作/状态、suggest
【详解】句意:我建议你应该在你的爱好上少花费一些时间。根据句意可知这是一般现在时,故动词用原形,故填suggest.
52.My brother (regret) spending too much time on computer games.
【答案】regretted
【难度】0.4
【知识点】regret、过去发生的动作/状态
【详解】句意:我哥哥后悔花太多时间在电脑游戏上。由“spending too much time on computer games.”判断,此处的时间已经浪费掉了,需用过去式。故填regretted。
53.Not only Jim but also his brothers (punish ) because of being late last Monday.
【答案】were punished
【难度】0.4
【知识点】not only...but also、be动词、一般过去时的被动语态、were、punish
句中not only…but also…意为“不仅…而且”,使用时要注意就近原则,即谓语动词的单复数要与靠近谓语动词的名词或代词的数保持一致,本句中his brothers距离punish较近,故用使用复数的be动词were,故答案为were punished.
54.Someone (run)out of the tall building when we walked past.
【答案】was running
【难度】0.4
【知识点】过去进行时含when、while、was、run(ran run)
【详解】句意:我们走过时,有人正从高楼里跑出来。本句是时间状语从句,when(当……的时候)表示主从动作同时发生;从句walked past是一般过去时,根据句意语境和英文提示可知。故填was running。
55.He sent me quite a few messages, but I (not reply) yet as I don’t know what to say.
【答案】haven’t replied
【难度】0.4
【知识点】表示影响(动作已完成)、reply
【详解】句意:他给我发了好多信息,但我还没有回复,因为我不知道该说什么。根据yet可知,此句是现在完成时,其结构是:助动词have/has+动词的过去分词;主语I是第一人称,助动词用have,have not=haven’t;reply的过去分词为replied。故填haven’t replied。
56.The price of gasoline (rise) a lot in the past few months.
【答案】has risen
【难度】0.4
【知识点】表示影响(动作已完成)、risen
【详解】句意:汽油的价格在过去的几个月中上涨了很多。in the past few months在过去的几个月中,是现在完成时的时间状语,所以句子用现在完成时态,动词rise的过去分词是risen,故填has risen。
57.—The rain came to a stop last night. —Yes, it (rain) for nearly a week.
【答案】had rained
【难度】0.4
【知识点】过去完成时、rain
【详解】句意:——雨昨晚停了。 ——是的,下了将近一个星期的雨。根据“The rain came to a stop last night”和“for nearly a week”可知,下雨的动作发生在过去的过去,且已完成,所以应用过去完成时,结构为had done,rain的过去分词是rained;故填had rained。

【答案】
Dear fellow students,
I am honored to be chosen as the “Recommendation Office” for our school’s traditional culture clubs. Today, I would like to recommend two clubs that I believe will enrich your understanding of Chinese culture and enhance your skills.
Firstly, I recommend the Paper-cutting Club, which meets on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Paper-cutting is a traditional Chinese art form that requires precision and patience. By joining this club, you will not only learn the techniques of paper-cutting but also appreciate the beauty and depth of this art. It is a great way to improve your fine motor skills and attention to detail. Secondly, I suggest joining the Chinese Painting Cub, which is held on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Chinese painting, or “guo hua”, is a unique and elegant art form that has been practiced for centuries. In this club, you will learn about the different styles of Chinese painting, such as landscape painting, flower-and-bird painting, and figure painting. You will also have the opportunity to practice using the brush and ink, which will help you to develop your artistic skills and appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture.
In conclusion, I highly recommend the Paper-cutting Club and the Chinese Painting Club. These clubs will not only provide you with a fun and engaging way to spend your afternoons but also give you a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. I hope you will consider joining one or both of these clubs and enjoy yourselves.
