And you need an iPhone.” This funny conversation two years ago marked a change in our relationship. Perhaps for the first time, I began to really listen to John’s opinion about our home technology. Since his reasoning was sound and his suggestions were acceptable, I took his advice and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I’d known for a while that my son understands technology better than I do. On airplanes, he grabbed my phone to put it in airplane mode. He wired the speakers in our house. After something was stolen from our front yard, he picked out, set up, and now monitors our security camera. When my computer died, I took him shopping with me. He has a busy social life, with skateboarding, basketball, and online gaming. I see our time together reduced and our shared interests shrinking. That’s why I jumped at the chance when a friend mentioned writing technology reviews. When I presented the idea to my teen, he immediately accepted. It’s changed our relationship in surprising ways. Where he used to get annoyed quickly at my technical ignorance, he’s learned to be more patient and explain things to me in a way that I can convey to an equally unknowing audience. The Parent-child relationship is not only changed; it’s even slightly reversed (逆转). He’s leading me. I’m asking him for help and advice. My son has risen to the occasion. He’s taking it seriously, and to watch him mature in this way is an honor. As someone not much of a reader, he now searches instruction booklets. He’s even emailed and called—yes, made an actual phone call—to customer service or tech support when products weren’t working as expected. I never imagined being a tech reviewer, but it’s proved to be a valuable way to learn from, work with, and enjoy time with my teen. 4. What did the author think of her son’s advice? A. Unique. B. Normal. C. Funny. D. Practical. 5. What does the author say about her son in paragraph 3? A. He is skilled at technology. B. He leads a very busy life. C. He tries to make peace with her. D. He helps with housework. 6. Why did the author accept writing technology reviews eagerly? A. To make more money to support the family. B. To keep a close relationship with her son. C. To learn more about modern technology. D. To get some products for free. 7. What made the author feel honored? A. Her son’s patience to explain technical things. B. Her son’s control of the parent-child relationship. C. Her son’s careful attitude towards the reviews. D. Her son’s rich knowledge of technical terms. D 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段“Since his reasoning was sound and his suggestions were acceptable, I took his advice and was pleasantly surprised with the results. 根据第三段“I’d known for a while that my son understands technology better than I do. On airplanes, he grabbed my phone to put it in airplane mode. He wired the speakers in our house. After something was stolen from our front yard, he picked out, set up, and now monitors our security camera. When my computer died, I took him shopping with me.(我早就知道儿子比我更懂科技。 故选A项。 根据第四段“I see our time together reduced and our shared interests shrinking. That’s why I jumped at the chance when a friend mentioned writing technology reviews. But then you go for a walk and suddenly the answer flashes right into your head! It’s a great feeling and this link between exercise and creativity (创造力) has been studied by scientists around the world. Dr. Chong Chen and his team from Japan’s Yamaguchi University wanted to find out how different types of physical activity can help us solve problems and think creatively. They looked at 21 past studies from places including the US, the UK, Spain, Sweden, China, India and Japan. The studied exercises included walking, running, cycling, dance and yoga. In fact, Chen and his team found that it was natural walking that almost always had a positive effect on people’s creativity — even if it was just walking inside a room or going up and down some stairs, for as little as three to four minutes. Dance is also good. Most of the studies Chen’s team looked at found that dance helps significantly with creativity — particularly among adults. However, the results for yoga were unclear. And low-intensity aerobic exercise (低强度的有氧运动) like cycling was not found to have an effect. There were some advantages from right and energetic aerobic exercise, however, but “too much effort” exercise seemed not to have a mostly positive effect. That is to say, the hardest exercise actually didn’t give the best results. So completely tiring yourself probably won’t help your creativity! Chen wrote that his team’s findings could be used in schools and businesses by including short periods of physical activity during the day to encourage creative thinking. It’s not even about keeping fit, Chen says — you just have to move! As he said, “Knowing that just a few minutes of walking, or other low-intensity physical activity can increase creative thinking should make getting up to move seem more worthwhile.” 8. Why did Dr. Chong Chen look at the past studies? A. To know about the relation of exercise and creativity. B. To encourage people from other countries to think creatively. C. To learn if people take part in exercises in different countries. D. To explain why different types of physical activity are important. 9. What can we know from their findings? A. The harder people exercise, the better results are. B. Proper walking can help people with creativity. C. Yoga and cycling didn’t have a positive effect. D. Adults like to dance to improve their creativity. 10. What advice did Chen give to schools and businesses? A. They should use his findings. B. They had better keep healthy. C. They can work with each other. D. They need just begin exercises. 11. What is the author’s attitude towards the finding? A. Positive. B. Unconcerned. C. Negative. D. Subjective. A 9. B 10. D 11. Chong Chen and his team from Japan’s Yamaguchi University wanted to find out how different types of physical activity can help us solve problems and think creatively. They looked at 21 past studies from places including the US, the UK, Spain, Sweden, China, India and Japan.(来自日本山口大学的陈冲博士和他的团队希望弄清楚不同类型的身体活动如何帮助我们解决问题并进行创造性思维。他们研究了来自美国、英国、西班牙、瑞典、中国、印度和日本的21项过往研究。)”可知,陈博士研究过去的研究是为了了解运动和创造力之间的关系。故选A。 根据第三段“In fact, Chen and his team found that it was natural walking that almost always had a positive effect on people’s creativity — even if it was just walking inside a room or going up and down some stairs, for as little as three to four minutes.(事实上,陈和他的团队发现,自然散步几乎总是对人们的创造力有积极影响——即使只是室内走动或上下楼梯,时间甚至仅为三到四分钟。)” 根据第五段“Chen wrote that his team’s findings could be used in schools and businesses by including short periods of physical activity during the day to encourage creative thinking. It’s not even about keeping fit, Chen says — you just have to move!( 陈写道,他的团队的研究结果可以在学校和企业中使用,通过在白天进行短时间的体育活动来鼓励创造性思维。陈说,这甚至不仅仅是保持健康——你只需要动起来!)”可知,陈给学校和企业的建议是他们需要开始锻炼。故选D。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“It’s a great feeling and this link between exercise and creativity (创造力) has been studied by scientists around the world.(这种感觉很棒,运动与创造力之间的联系已被全球科学家研究。)”及最后一段“Knowing that just a few minutes of walking, or other low-intensity physical activity can increase creative thinking should make getting up to move seem more worthwhile.(得知仅需几分钟的步行或其他低强度身体活动,就能提升创造性思维,这会让起身活动变得更有意义。)” A。 D Artificial intelligence (AI) technology may soon be a useful tool for doctors. For example, it may help them better understand and treat diseases like breast cancer (乳腺癌) in ways that were not possible. Rishi Rawat teaches AI at a University in Los Angeles. He is part of a team of scientists who are researching how AI and machine learning can more easily recognize cancerous growths in the breast. He says, “You put information into a computer and it will learn the cancerous growth patterns (模式). The pattern recognition is very important to make decisions.” At present, researchers have to take a thin piece of tissue (组织), put it on a small piece of glass and add color to better see the cell-growth patterns. That process could take days or even longer. Scientists say artificial intelligence can do it better than just count cells. Through machine learning, it can quickly recognize patterns, or structures, and learn how the cells are organized. The hope is that machines will soon be able to make a quick recognition of cancerous cell-growth patterns that is free of human mistakes. Rawat adds that the process could be done “for almost no cost for the patients”. But having a large amount of information about cells is important for a machine to effectively do its job. Once the cancerous growth pattern is recognized, doctors still have to treat the patient. The form of treatment depends on the kind of cancer. David Agus is another researcher of the team. He believes, “Computers will help doctors make better decisions and look for those patterns that the human brain can’t recognize by itself. But they will not treat patients.” 12. What’s the advantage of AI technology in medicine? A. It treats breast cancer all by itself. B. It offers free cancer treatment for patients. C. It improves the building of medical teams. D. It finds the cancerous growth patterns faster. 13. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refers to the process of _________. A. adding color to cells B. recognizing the cell-growth patterns C. taking a piece of tissue D. feeding information into a computer 14. What can we know from David Agus’ words? A. AI can tell human brain patterns. B. AI can decide medical research. C. AI will not take doctors’ place. D. AI will develop fast in the future. 15. What is the main idea of the text? A. AI can treat patients. B. AI makes better doctors. C. AI technology has a long way to go. D. AI can know the differences among cancers. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第二段“You put information into a computer and it will learn the cancerous growth patterns (模式).(你把信息输入计算机,它就会了解癌症的生长模式)”和第三段“Scientists say artificial intelligence can do it better than just count cells. Through machine learning, it can quickly recognize patterns, or structures, and learn how the cells are organized.(科学家表示,人工智能可以做得比仅仅计算细胞更好。通过机器学习,它可以快速识别模式或结构,并了解细胞是如何组织的)”可知,人工智能的优点是能更快地识别癌细胞的生长模式,故选D。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“At present, researchers have to take a thin piece of tissue, put it on a small piece of glass and add color to better see the cell-growth patterns. That process could take days or even longer.(目前,研究人员必须将一块薄的组织放在一小块玻璃上,并添加颜色,以便更好地观察细胞的生长模式。这个过程可能需要几天甚至更长时间)”可知,科学家表示人工智能可以在识别细胞生长的过程中更快速,所以it指代识别细胞生长的过程。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“David Agus is another researcher of the team. He believes, “Computers will help doctors make better decisions and look for those patterns that the human brain can’t recognize by itself. But they will not treat patients.”(大卫·阿古斯是该团队的另一位研究员。他相信,“计算机将帮助医生做出更好的决定,并寻找那些人类大脑无法自己识别的模式。但它们不能治疗病人”)”可知,大卫•阿古斯认为计算机能做很多事,但不能治疗病人,从大卫•阿古斯的话可以推断出AI不会取代医生。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Artificial intelligence (AI) technology may soon be a useful tool for doctors. For example, it may help them better understand and treat diseases like breast cancer (乳腺癌) in ways that were not possible.(人工智能技术可能很快会成为医生的有用工具。例如,它可以以一种不可能的方式帮助他们更好地理解和治疗乳腺癌等疾病)”以及文章主要内容为说明人工智能将帮助医生做出更好的决定,寻找人类大脑自己无法识别的模式。故本文的最佳标题是“AI使医生变的更好”。故选B。 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Reading is a basic skill that opens doors to knowledge, imagination, and personal growth.____16____Children learn new words, adults reduce stress and the elderly has a sense of satisfaction through reading. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention. I was happy and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he could still afford a dream. My dream was athletics. By the time I was sixteen, I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything that moved on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me, but often told me “The dream is invaluable.” However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular thing happened, which almost ruined (毁坏) my long-held dream. It was the summer holiday in Senior Two and a friend recommended me for a summer job. I was offered $12.25 per hour. Compared with the average $3.5, that was a big sum. I was so excited, because this meant a chance for money in my pocket, certainly, money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mother. The prospect (前景) of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity. Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule. I didn’t dare to tell my coach. I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage “If you make your bed, you have to lie in it.” I decided to talk to my coach by myself. After all, my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth facing his disappointment to me. I gathered my courage and knocked at his door. 57. What’s the main idea of the story? (about 40 words ) _________________________________________________________________________________________ 58. If you were the coach, what advice would you give to the author? (about 50 words) _________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】57. The author grew up poor but had an athletic dream. A well-paid summer job in Senior Two made him face a choice: giving up the job or summer baseball training, so he decided to tell his coach. 58. Don’t give up your baseball training for this job. Athletics is your dream and can bring you long-term value, while the job only gives short-term money. I’ll help you find a way to balance if possible—don’t let temporary gains ruin your long-held dream. 根据文章第一段“I grew up in a poor family with six brothers, three sisters, my father and mother. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention. I was happy and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he could still afford a dream(我出生在一个贫穷的家庭,有六个兄弟、三个姐妹、父亲和母亲。我们没有多少钱,也没有多少东西,但我们有很多爱和关心。我很快乐,精力充沛。我明白,无论一个人有多穷,他仍然可以拥有梦想)”可知,作者出身贫穷但拥有梦想;根据第二段“My dream was athletics(我的梦想是田径运动)”可知,作者的梦想是成为运动员;根据第三段“It was the summer holiday in Senior Two and a friend recommended me for a summer job. I was offered $12.25 per hour. Compared with the average $3.5, that was a big sum(那是高二暑假,一个朋友推荐我去做一份暑期工作。我的时薪是12.25美元。与平均3.5美元相比,这是一大笔钱)”和第四段“Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule.(然后我意识到,为了应付工作安排,我将不得不放弃夏季棒球训练)”可知,高二暑假作者得到一份高薪工作,但需要放弃棒球训练;根据第四段“I decided to talk to my coach by myself.(我决定自己和教练谈谈)”可知,作者决定和教练谈谈。 The author grew up poor but had an athletic dream. A well-paid summer job in Senior Two made him face a choice: giving up the job or summer baseball training, so he decided to tell his coach. 根据文章第二段“My dream was athletics. By the time I was sixteen, I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything that moved on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me, but often told me “The dream is invaluable.”(我的梦想是田径运动。 Don’t give up your baseball training for this job. Athletics is your dream and can bring you long-term value, while the job only gives short-term money. I’ll help you find a way to balance if possible—don’t let temporary gains ruin your long-held dream. 1. B Two years ago, my son sat me down for a talk. “Mom, it’s time,” he said. “Hear me out: It’s time we got actual TV. C A problem has been annoying you for days — you just can’t solve it, and it’s driving you crazy. C. Negative. D. Subjective. D Artificial intelligence (AI) technology may soon be a useful tool for doctors. Reading is a basic skill that opens doors to knowledge, imagination, and personal growth.____16____Children learn new words, adults reduce stress and the elderly has a sense of satisfaction through reading.
