They said they would be moving here and planned to send their deaf daughter to my school as a first grader. They were upset that their child’s kindergarten teacher told them not to have high hopes for her. The teacher painted a bleak (暗淡的) picture for their little girl’s future. Standing behind them was Katherine, a beautiful five-year-old with long hair and dark eyes. The whole time her parents were there she didn’t make a sound or use sign language, even when her parents asked her to do so. After a few weeks with Katherine, I discovered I was dealing with a very bright child. Although I was able to make her join in different learning activities, writing was always a struggle. I tried all kinds of methods to interest her in writing. Every time the pencils came out, she would refuse to write. One day Katherine got off her bus and stood in front of the school crying. The teachers there did not know enough sign language to ask her what happened. Finally they led her into the office where they handed her a pen and a piece of paper. Katherine wrote: “PAC BAK.” Immediately the teachers realized she left her backpack (背包) on the bus. They called the bus driver back to school and soon Katherine got her backpack back. That day Katherine discovered the power of the pen. From then on she fell in love with writing. She is a young woman now and has become an excellent writer public speaker and student leader. 41 What did the kindergarten teacher think of Katherine? A. Impatient. B. Bright. C. Hopeless. D. Beautiful. 42. When the author first met her, Katherine _________. A. kept silent B. kept crying C. was studying D. was unhappy 43. What was Katherine’s problem after a few weeks with the author? A. D. Katherine knew what the pen was used for. 45. What’s the author? A. A public speaker. B. A deaf student leader. C. A kindergarten teacher. D. A primary school teacher. C Pre-school children who spend time together take on one another's personalities, a new research has found. The study shows that environment plays a key role in shaping people's personalities. While genetics still forms the central part of the human psyche (心理), the research finds that personality traits (特征) are "contagious" (传染的) among children. "Our finding flies in the face of common assumptions that personality can't be changed," said Dr. Jennifer Neal, co-author of the study. The researchers studied the personalities and social networks of two pre-school classes for a full school year. One of the classes was a set of three-year-olds, and the other a set of four-year-olds. Children whose friends were hard-working or outgoing gradually took on these personality traits over time. Psychology expert Dr. Emily Dublin said kids are having a far bigger effect on each other than people may realize. The new study is not the first to explore the contagious effects of personality traits. A 2015 psychology study found that rudeness at work can be contagious as it travels from person to person "like a disease". The study found that seeing a boss being rude to an employee was enough to cause people to be rude to those around them. The researchers questioned 6,000 people on the social "climate" in their workplaces, which included offices, hotels and restaurants. They found 75 percent of those who took part said they had been treated rudely at least once in the past year. And the study also suggests that merely seeing other people being subjected to rudeness made it more likely that a person would treat their colleagues in the same way. Rudeness could include leaving someone off an invite to a company event, sending unkind emails, finding fault with others or failing to give praise. Dr. Torkelson believes companies need to be more aware of the harm that rudeness in the workplace can do as it can damage the working environment. She said better training could help to fight against the problem. 46. What does the underlined part "flies in the face of" in Paragraph1mean? A. Leads to. B. Results from. C. Goes against. D. Agrees with. 47. According to Paragraph 2, who have the greatest impact on children's personality? A. Their parents. B. Their friends. C. The researchers. D. The psychologists. 48. Which of the following is considered rude at the workplace? A. Ignoring the faults of co-workers. B. Not sending emails to workmates. C. Seeking praise from colleagues and bosses. D. Not inviting a colleague to a company party. 49. What is the passage mainly about? A. One's personality is hard to change. B. One's personality is shaped by genes. C. One's personality traits can spread to others. D. One's personality traits can change overnight. 50. This passage is most probably taken from ________. A. a science report B. a study guide C. a school textbook D. a technical journal D About six years ago I was eating lunch in a restaurant in New York City when a woman and a young boy sat down at the next table. I couldn’t help overhearing parts of their conversation. At one point the woman asked, “So, how have you been?” And the boy --- who could not have been more than 7 or 8 years old ---replied, “Frankly, I’ve been feeling a little depressed lately.” This incident(小事件) stuck in my mind because it confirmed(证实) my growing belief that children are changing. As far as I can remember, my friends and I didn’t find out we were “depressed” until we were in high school. The evidence of a change in children has increased steadily in recent years. Children don’t seem childlike anymore. Children speak more like adults, dress more like adults and behave more like adults than they used to. Whether this is good or bad is difficult to say, but it is certainly different. Children as they once were on longer exists. Why? Human development is based not only on innate biological states, but also on patterns of access to social knowledge. Movement from one social route to another usually involves learning the secrets of the new status. Children have always been taught adult secrets, but slowly and in stages: traditionally, we tell sixth graders things we keep hidden from fifth graders. In the last 30 years, however, a secret-revelation (揭示)machine has been installed in 98 percent of American homes. It is called television. Television passes information indiscriminately to all viewers alike, be they children or adults. Unable to resist the temptation, many children turn their attention from printed texts to the less challenging, more vivid moving pictures. Communication through print, as a matter of fact, allows for a great deal of control over the social information to which children have access. Reading and writing involve a complex code of symbols that must be memorized and practiced. Children must read simple books before they can read complex materials. 51. According to the author, feeling depressed is ________. A. a sure sign of a mental problem in children B. a mental state present in all humans, including children C. something that can’t be avoided in children’s mental development D. something hardly to be expected in a young child 52. Traditionally, a child is supposed to learn about the adult world _________. A. through connection with society B. gradually and under guidance(引导) C naturally without being taught D. through watching television 53. According to the author, that today’s children seem adultlike results from __________. A. the widespread influence of television B. the poor arrangement of teaching content C. the fast pace of human scientific development D. the rising standard of living 54. What does the author think of communication through print for children? A. It enables children to gain more social information B. It develops children’s interest in reading and writing. C. It helps children to read and write well. D. It can control what children are to learn. 55. What does the author think of the change in today’s children? A. He feels their adultlike behavior is so funny B. He thinks the change worth our attention C. He considers it a rapid development D. He is extremely upset about it 四、写作(共1题,15分) 56. @ Emily Posted on Mar. 13, 2025 9: 30 AM Thank you for raising this meaningful question! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Li Hua 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年度第一学期高一年级学情评估(一) 英语 一、单项选择(共15题,每题1分) 1. She is a young woman now and has become an excellent writer, public speaker and student leader. 41. What did the kindergarten teacher think of Katherine? A. Impatient. B. Bright. C. Hopeless. D. Beautiful. 42. When the author first met her, Katherine _________. A. kept silent B. kept crying C. was studying D. was unhappy 43. What was Katherine’s problem after a few weeks with the author? A. She didn’t like to write at all. B. She couldn’t use sign language. C. She always left her backpack on the bus. D. She had no interest in learning activities. 44. What’s the meaning of “Katherine discovered the power of the pen”? A. Katherine used a pen for the first time. B. Katherine became interested in writing. C. Katherine understood how to use the pen. D. Katherine knew what the pen was used for. 45. What’s the author? A. A public speaker. B. A deaf student leader. C. A kindergarten teacher. D. A primary school teacher. 【答案】41. C 42. A 43. A 44. B 45. A. through connection with society B. gradually and under guidance(引导) C. naturally without being taught D. through watching television 53. He is extremely upset about it 【答案】51. D 52. B 53. A 54. D 55. As far as I can remember, my friends and I didn’t find out we were “depressed” until we were in high school.可知在作者记忆中他们是直到高中才体会到失落,故推测他认为那么小的孩子会感到失落是难以想象的。D. something hardly to be expected in a young child(在如此小的孩子身上很难想象的事情)符合以上说法,故选D项。 【52题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段的Children have always been taught adult secrets, but slowly and in stages: traditionally, we tell sixth graders things we keep hidden from fifth graders.可知,老师在教给孩子成人知识的时候是有阶段的,循序渐进的。一般情况下教给六年级孩子的东西,不会教给五年级。B. gradually and under guidance(引导)(在引导下循序渐进)符合以上说法,故选B项。 【53题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第五段的In the last 30 years, however, a secret-revelation (揭示)machine has been installed in 98 percent of American homes. It’s true that Chinese teenagers face academic pressure, but we’ve also learned to grow and stay mentally healthy through various ways. First, many of us develop a habit of reading widely. Books not only improve our knowledge but also help us relax. Besides, we actively take up hobbies like painting, playing musical instruments, or sports. These activities allow us to express ourselves and reduce stress. Moreover, joining school clubs — such as the drama club or volunteering group — gives us a sense of belonging and teamwork. If you’re interested, I’d like to invite you to join our school’s online cultural exchange program this May. You can share your experience and learn more about Chinese youth life. I am looking forward to your reply! Li Hua 参考例文2 @ Emily Posted on Mar. 13, 2025 9: 30 AM Thank you for raising this meaningful question! It’s quite common for teenagers to face academic pressure, and Chinese youth have developed various ways to maintain mental health and achieve self-growth simultaneously. First, many students turn to reading. Books, whether literary classics or popular science works, not only expand our knowledge but also provide a peaceful space to relax and reflect. For example, when I feel stressed, reading a novel helps me escape from worries temporarily and gain new perspectives on life. Second, developing hobbies plays a vital role. Some students enjoy painting, playing musical instruments, or doing sports. These activities allow them to express emotions and build confidence. My classmate Lily, for instance, finds solace in playing the piano. Every time she performs, she feels a sense of accomplishment that balances her academic stress. Besides, participating in school clubs is popular. Clubs like the debate team, volunteer association, or science club offer opportunities to socialize, learn teamwork, and explore new interests. In our school’s photography club, students learn to capture beautiful moments, which helps them appreciate the world around them and boost their mental well-being.
