We are here to announce that we have finally reached a deal to buy the old paper factory by the lake. We have agreed to pay a sale price of £5 million. This is slightly higher than our original offer six months ago, but we believe that the location next to water and the great transport make this the best place to build our new head office. We know that the factory has been there for over a century, and that many of you had relatives that worked there. Sadly, the building has not been taken good care of, and there is no way that it can be saved. It will have to be removed so that we can rebuild from the ground up. However, in addition to our new office building, we will be building a museum about the history of the factory and industry in this city. We will save as much as we can from the factory and show it to everyone. I’ll now hand over to our spokeswoman to take some questions. A Dance Classes Ballet Ballet teaches grace, posture and flexibility (柔韧性). Volunteering can be a few hours a week or a few hours a month. Anybody who wants to serve people in need can become a volunteer. In fact, the art of volunteering is a process of both giving and receiving. Volunteering allows volunteers to meet new people, make new friends and mix with people from all walks of life. Volunteering is an excellent way to experiment and try out new techniques and skills, discover your individual talents and explore career choice. Being a volunteer will take you on a wonderful journey and help you learn more than what you can get from books. 24. As a volunteer, only when you grow old enough can you _______. How to Hunt for Jobs C. How to Make Friends D. How to Work with Animals 【答案】24. C 25. D 26. B 27. Volunteers usually help in many different ways. They may give people advice, offer friendship to the young, drive the elderly to church (if up to the driving age)根据文章的内容可知志愿者通常以许多不同的方式来帮助。 本文的中心句在首段的末句“Every year, thousands of people in the west offer volunteer service. Volunteering greatly strengthens the community because it helps the old, the young, the weak, the sick, and the disabled and the injured to solve problems.”这就是对标题“Volunteer Service in the West”的回答。 C Charles Smith, an experienced ski instructor, was buried under snow for an hour after this morning’s avalanche (雪崩). He is now recovering in hospital. He has been allowed to speak with reporters from his hospital bed, but he can’t stand up on his own because of a broken ankle. Speaking to reporters, he admitted the accident shocked everyone. “People didn’t think that this kind of thing would happen to an experienced skier,” he said. He said that the weather had been good all week, and there hadn’t been any warnings about possible avalanches. The problem was that Charles had gone out in an unprepared ski area, he explained. “It is true that there hadn’t been any avalanche warnings, but the fact is that I put other people in danger by leading my group to that area. I shouldn’t have done that,” he admitted regretfully. Recalling the terrifying moment, he continued, while waiting for his group, he heard a loud noise and saw a wall of snow racing towards him. Charles had no time to react. Within seconds, he was blinded, everything turned white, and then there was silence. As time passed, Charles started to panic, fearing he wouldn’t be able to breathe. After what seemed like hours, he heard barking and realized that the specially trained mountain rescue dogs had found him using their incredible sense of smell. Once freed, his biggest concern was that there were still other people buried under the snow. Luckily, no others were caught. Incredibly grateful to the dogs and the rescue team, he promised to thank them in person as soon as he was well enough to leave the hospital and he agreed that he was a very lucky man. Charles went on to stress that the frequency of avalanches has increased in recent years, “The point is that we all need to be careful, even if we are experienced skiers.” 28. What was people’s attitude towards experienced skiers before the accident? A. They believed experienced skiers could predict avalanches. B. They expected experienced skiers to rescue others in avalanches. C. They worried experienced skiers might take risks in dangerous areas. D. They thought experienced skiers were less likely to be caught in avalanches. 29. Why was it lucky that no others were caught in the avalanche? A. The rescue team was not fully prepared for multiple victims. B. Charles had led his group to the same risky area. C. The avalanche was stronger than expected. D. The hospital could not handle too many injured people. 30. What does the underlined word “panic” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Feel calm. B. Feel excited. C. Feel afraid. D. Feel tired. 31. What did Charles highlight about avalanches? A. Their occurrence has become more frequent recently. B. experienced skiers don’t need to worry about them. C. They are more likely to happen in good weather. D. They can be avoided with proper warnings. D 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第一段“People didn’t think that this kind of thing would happen to an experienced skier (人们原本没想到这种事会发生在一位经验丰富的滑雪者身上)”可知,事故发生前,人们认为有经验的滑雪者不太可能遭遇雪崩。 根据第二段“It is true that there hadn’t been any avalanche warnings, but the fact is that I put other people in danger by leading my group to that area. (诚然,当时并没有任何雪崩警报,但事实是,我带领团队前往那个区域,从而将其他人置于危险之中。)”和第三段“  Once freed, his biggest concern was that there were still other people buried under the snow. Luckily, no others were caught. (幸运的是,没有其他人被困。)”可知,查尔斯带领团队进入了有风险的区域,其他人未被雪崩波及,自然是幸运的。故选B。 【30题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“Recalling the terrifying moment, he continued, while waiting for his group, he heard a loud noise and saw a wall of snow racing towards him. Charles had no time to react. Within seconds, he was blinded, everything turned white, and then there was silence. (回想起那可怕的一刻,他继续说道,当时他在等待同伴们的时候,突然听到了一声巨响,还看到一堵雪墙朝他疾驰而来。查尔斯来不及做出反应。几秒钟之内,他就完全失明了,周围的一切都变成了白色,然后便是一片寂静。)”可知,前文描述查尔斯被雪掩埋,担心无法呼吸,可见他处于危险、恐惧的状态,故划线词意思是“感到害怕的”。故选C。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Charles went on to stress that the frequency of avalanches has increased in recent years, “The point is that we all need to be careful, even if we are experienced skiers.” (查尔斯接着强调说,近年来雪崩发生的频率有所增加,“关键在于,即便我们都是经验丰富的滑雪者,也仍需保持警惕。”)”可知,查尔斯重点阐述近年来雪崩的发生频率有所增加。故选A。 D “You’re so smart!” This encouraging response to children’s math performance is commonly heard. Recently, a new study, conducted by the University of Georgia, found that encouraging children with responses related to their personal characteristics or inborn abilities might weaken their math motivation and achievement over time. Parents who make comments linking their children’s performance to personal characteristics like intelligence are using what’s referred to as person responses. In contrast, parents who link their children’s actions, such as efforts or strategy use, to their performance are using process responses. For the study, researchers asked more than 500 parents to report on how they responded to their children’s math performance and their math beliefs and goals. Children were assessed in two waves across a year to measure their math motivation and achievement. The results show that parents who view math ability as changeable are more likely to give process responses focused on their children’s strategy use and efforts rather than their intelligence or other personal characteristics. In contrast, parents who believe math ability is unchangeable and that math failure can’t be constructive give more person responses. Parents with high expectations for their children give a combination of both responses. While responses highlighting strategy and efforts are not related to any achievement outcomes, children who receive more responses about their personal characteristics -- in particular, related to failure -- are more likely to avoid harder math problems, exhibit higher levels of math anxiety, and score lower on math achievement tests. Because person responses predict poor math adjustment in children over time, researchers suggest parents limit this type of responses at home. Another recommendation for parents is to think about their own beliefs and goals for their kids and examine how these might lead them to respond in person or process ways. Simply telling parents to avoid talking about math ability may not be enough. Focusing less on how children perform and more on their strategy and enjoyment of math might be a more effective way to enhance motivation. 32. Which of the following is an example of process response? A. You are a lucky dog. B. Running is in your blood. C. What works well for your study? D. Why are you such a math genius? 33 What can be inferred from the study results? A. Parents prefer to give more process responses. B. Children are more likely to be affected by math anxiety. C. Process responses help with children’s math achievement. D. Person responses can discourage children from learning math. 34. What do researchers advise parents to do? A. Restrict person responses. B. Defend their own beliefs. C. Stress children’s performance. D. Ignore children’s math problems. 35. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Strategy Children Adopt to Learn Math Helps B. The Way Parents Talk to Children on Math Matters C. Responses to Enhance Children’s Math Performance D. Suggestions for Parents to Teach Their Children Math 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. A 35. 根据第二段中“In contrast, parents who link their children’s actions, such as efforts or strategy use, to their performance are using process responses.(相比之下,将孩子的行为(如努力或策略的使用)与他们的表现联系起来的父母正在使用过程反应。)” 根据倒数第二段中“While responses highlighting strategy and efforts are not related to any achievement outcomes, children who receive more responses about their personal characteristics -- in particular, related to failure -- are more likely to avoid harder math problems, exhibit higher levels of math anxiety, and score lower on math achievement tests.(虽然强调策略和努力的回答与任何成绩结果无关,但收到更多关于个人特征(特别是与失败有关的)回答的孩子更有可能避免更难的数学问题,表现出更高的数学焦虑水平,在数学成绩测试中得分更低。)” 根据最后一段中“Because person responses predict poor math adjustment in children over time, researchers suggest parents limit this type of responses at home.(因为个人反应预示着孩子随着时间的推移会有较差的数学适应能力,研究人员建议父母在家里限制这种反应。)” 通读整篇文章,尤其是第一段中“Recently, a new study, conducted by the University of Georgia, found that encouraging children with responses related to their personal characteristics or inborn abilities might weaken their math motivation and achievement over time.(最近,乔治亚大学进行的一项新研究发现,随着时间的推移,鼓励孩子用与他们的个人特征或天生能力相关的回答可能会削弱他们的数学动机和成就。)” 所以B项“The Way Parents Talk to Children on Math Matters(父母与孩子谈论数学问题的方式)”可作为最恰当的题目,故选B。 Join the Friends and find the place that’s right for you ●Who are the Friends of the University Art Museum? For about two years, I had a very faithful running partner. This giant, orange tabby cat was probably the gentlest cat I had ever encountered. He would see me climbing the hill and join in, running alongside me for about a quarter mile until he meowed enough to get me to stop and pet him. A few minutes later, when I attempted to restart my run, he would wind around my ankles to keep me longer. Although he was a rather fat fellow, I always brought him some cat food. On fair-weather afternoons, I would pick up my four-year-old granddaughter from pre-school and we would visit the tabby cat together. She would insist on bringing him an afternoon treat. Before long, he started winding around her little ankles as well. One day, while my granddaughter was pouring out the plastic baggie full of cat chow mixed with leftover chicken, she brought up a good point. She cried out, “We've got to call them something!” My granddaughter stepped back and, deep in thought, studied the cat carefully as he enjoyed the remains of her Happy Meal. Then she announced, “I've got it! Tom Tom! ” All the regular runners, walkers, bikers and visitors to the greenway soon came to know the big, friendly orange tabby as "Tom Tom". My granddaughter loved the cat. She looked forward to our greenway walks and visiting Tom Tom, something simple that the two of us did together. With her birthday approaching, I wanted to do something extra special. I cooperated with a local college art student and produced a self-published children's book for my granddaughter about our greenway friend. My only real intent was to print a copy or two for her birthday, so I was pleasantly surprised when several copies were sold! Soon, Tom Tom became the most famous cat in town! On a Friday in January, the forecast was calling for a snowstorm. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tom Tom has been part of our family for the past three years. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】On a Friday in January, the forecast was calling for a snowstorm. I went to the greenway and left extra cat food in case that I was unable to make it back out for a few days. Later that night, as I watched the almost disaster-like conditions, my heart sank as I thought of my greenway partner. More than a foot and a half of snow blanketed the ground after the storm passed, which was far more than had been predicted. Tom Tom was found the next day trapped under a bridge between two high piles of snow and ice. I was so thankful he was alive! At this point, I knew what I had to do. Tom Tom has been part of our family for the past three years. Of all the cats I have ever had, I can honestly say that he has taught me the most. Much like a faithful dog, Tom Tom listens for my car to pull up in the driveway. I can sometimes see him jumping down from his upstairs lookout window and hear him running down the steps as I'm unlocking the door, making sure he beats me to the kitchen by the time I enter. As I sit at my desk finishing this passage of my faithful running partner, I realize that he chose me, not the other way around and I'm so glad he did. 词汇激活 行为类 ①放置:lay/place/put/deposit ②返回:go back to/return to/be back ③观察:observe/witness/ see carefully 情绪类 感谢:showing appreciation/show gratitude/be grateful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Tom Tom was found the next day trapped under a bridge between two high piles of snow and ice.( trapped under a bridge为过去分词短语做状语) [高分句型2] I can sometimes see him jumping down from his upstairs lookout window and hear him running down the steps as I'm unlocking the door, making sure he beats me to the kitchen by the time I enter.(as I'm unlocking the door,为时间状语从句; making sure... Who might Mrs. Green be? Volunteering greatly strengthens the community because it helps the old, the young, the weak, the sick, and the disabled and the injured to solve problems. Volunteers usually help in many different ways. They may give people advice, offer friendship to the young, drive the elderly to church (if up to the driving age), advise kids against drugs, work as assistants in schools or nursing homes, raise funds, plant trees, help out in local libraries and do many other things. Volunteering can be a few hours a week or a few hours a month. Anybody who wants to serve people in need can become a volunteer. In fact, the art of volunteering is a process of both giving and receiving. Volunteering allows volunteers to meet new people, make new friends and mix with people from all walks of life. How to Hunt for Jobs C. How to Make Friends D. How to Work with Animals C Charles Smith, an experienced ski instructor, was buried under snow for an hour after this morning’s avalanche (雪崩). He said that the weather had been good all week and there hadn’t been any warnings about possible avalanches. D “You’re so smart!” This encouraging response to children’s math performance is commonly heard. In contrast parents who link their children’s actions, such as efforts or strategy use, to their performance are using process responses. 33. What can be inferred from the study results? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $高二英语听力第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。 Excuse me, miss Green, my stomach is aching.
