3.talk and write about emergencies and natural disasters with the new words in this unit.
4.have some ideas about how to stay safe during an emergency or a natural disaster.

Teaching Procedures
Further Preparation
Step 1: Warm-up (5 minutes)
1. Greet the students and have a free talk about what different emergencies and natural disasters they know.
2. Show some pictures related to different emergencies and natural disasters and ask students to talk about them in English.
Step 2: Vocabulary Review (5 minutes)
Display a word cloud with the key vocabulary of this unit on the screen. Ask students to recall and say the words aloud.
Step 3: Grammar Review (10 minutes)
1. Present some sentences using the past continuous tense(was/were+doing)and ask students to identify the usage of the past continuous tense.
2. Do some grammar exercises on the blackboard or worksheets to reinforce the usage of the past continuous tense(was/were+doing).
3. Have students correct the mistakes in given sentences.
Step 4: Reading Assessment (10 minutes)
1. Distribute a reading passage about natural disasters around the world.
. Ask students to read it silently and answer the following questions:
• What did the forest fire happen?
• What other natural disasters do you know? Give an example.
• What should we do if we meet a forest fire ? Give a suggestion.
2. Check the answers together and explain any difficult points in the passage.
Step 5: Writing Assessment (10 minutes)
1. Ask students to write a short passage about what action to take when we are facing different emergencies or natural disasters.
2. Provide some useful expressions and sentence structures on the blackboard to help them.
3. After writing, have students exchange their passages with their partners for peer review.
Step 6: Summary(5 minutes)
The teacher summarizes the main points of this assessment lesson and do more exercises to consolidate their learning of this unit.
