As I reflect on this significant event, a smile spreads across my face. As I think of Shanda, I feel loved and grateful. It was my twelfth year of dancing and I thought it would end up like any other year: stuck in emptiness, forgotten and without the belief of any teacher or friend that I really had the potential to achieve greatness. However, I met Shanda, a young, talented choreographer She influenced me to work to the best of my ability, pushed me to keep going when I wanted to give up, encouraged me and showed me the real importance of dancing. Throughout our hard work, not only did my ability to dance grow, but my friendship with Shanda grew as well. With the end of the year came our show time. As I walked to a backstage filled with other dancers, I hoped for a good performance that would prove my improvement. I waited anxiously for my turn. Finally, after what seemed like days, the loudspeaker announced my name. Butterflies filled my stomach as I took trembling steps onto the big lighted stage. But, with the determination to succeed and eagerness to live up to Shanda’s expectations for me, I began to dance. All my troubles and nerves went away as I danced my whole heart out. As I walked up to the judge to receive my first place shining, gold trophy (奖杯), I realized that dance is not about becoming the best. It was about loving dance for dance itself, a getaway from all my problems in the world. Shanda showed me that you could let everything go and just dance what you feel at that moment. After all the doubts that people had in me, I believed in myself and did not care what others thought. Thanks to Shanda, dance became more than a love of mine, but a passion. 4. How did the author feel when she stepped on the stage? A. Nervous. B. Relaxed. C. Confused. D. Proud. 7. What can we learn from the author’s story? A. Success lies in patience. B. Fame is what the young long for. C. A good teacher really matters. D. A youth is to be treated with respect. 4. B 5. C 6. A 7. In a garden filled with flowers and beds bursting with vegetables and herbs, nearly a dozen teenagers are harvesting vegetables for the weekend’s farmers’ market. Roshawn Little is going into her junior year at Eastern, and has been working in this garden for three years now. During the summer, Little gets paid to work Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a. m. until 2 p. m. with City Blossoms, a nonprofit that brings community gardens to schools in urban areas. She believes that working in the garden has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating different kinds of vegetables more often. And she’s taken those healthy behaviors home with her and her eating habits have encouraged her family to buy more fruits and vegetables. City Blossoms is one of many groups across the country teaming up with local communities to build school gardens, like the one at Eastern. It works with schools to create learning gardens and trains teachers in how to use them to get students busy and improve students’ academic performance. These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. For example, the gardens can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed and learning the science of how plants grow. For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12 to 15 percent increase in the number of students passing standardized tests and 94 percent of teachers have reported seeing increased student engagement, according to an independent evaluation (评价) conducted by PEER Associates. 8. What does Roshawn Little think of the summer outdoor activity? A It is a good way to earn pocket money. B. It contributes to her healthy eating habits. C. It has improved her family relationship. D. It is valuable to her academic performance. 9. What is the purpose of the school gardens? A. To provide a creative way of learning. B. To advance teachers’ teaching skills. C. To get students interested in science. D. To invite students to care for plants. 10. What does the last paragraph focus on about school gardens? A. Its effects. B. Its aims. C. Its operations. D. Its expectations. 11. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. City Blossoms: Team Up with Local Community Teachers. B. Outdoor Classrooms: Get out for the Weekend’s Farmers’ Market. C. What School Gardens Teach Kids: Healthy Eating, Smart Minds. D. How Kids Enjoy the Harvest: Happy Holiday, Sweet Memories. B 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第二段中的“She believes that working in the garden has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating different kinds of vegetables more often. These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. For example, the gardens can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed and learning the science of how plants grow.(该组织与学校合作创建学习型菜园,并培训教师如何利用这些菜园让学生积极参与,提高学生的学业成绩。这些菜园实际上就是户外教室。例如,菜园可以用于数学课,比如计算花坛面积,以及学习植物生长的科学知识。)”可知,校园菜园的目的是提供一种创新的学习方式,将劳动与学科知识结合。故选A项。 根据最后一段的“For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Partner schools have also seen a 12 to15 percent increase in the number of students passing standardized tests and 94 percent of teachers have reported seeing increased student engagement, according to an independent evaluation (评价) conducted by PEER Associates. (对于学生们来说,这段经历可以让他们在营养学上大开眼界,完全改变了他们对食物来源和生产食物所需条件的看法。根据PEER Associates进行的一项独立评估,合作学校通过标准化考试的学生人数也增加了12%至15%,94%的教师报告说,学生的参与度有所提高。)”可知,该段重点阐述校园菜园对学生认知、学业及参与度产生的积极效果。故选A项。 D More than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas, lots of which were stolen and illegally shipped out of China during the times of war before 1949. About 1.67 million pieces are housed in no more than 200 museums in 47 countries, which accounts for 10 percent of all lost Chinese cultural relics, and the rest are in the hands of private collectors. Most of these treasures are owned by museums or private collectors in the United States, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asian countries. There are more than 23,000 pieces in the British Museum, most of which were stolen or bought for pennies more than 100 years ago. The major method to recover these national treasures was to buy them back. In some cases, private collectors donated the relics to the government. Also, the government can turn to official channels to demand the return of relics. In 2003, a priceless bronze pig’s head dating from the Qing Dynasty was returned to its home in Beijing after it was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago. Macao entrepreneur Stanley Ho donated 6 million yuan to buy it back from a US art collector and then donated it to the Poly Art Museum in Beijing. Although buying-back is the most feasible way to recover the lost treasures, limited funding is always a big headache. In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics lost overseas. It has started a national project on the recovery of the treasures and has set up a database (数据库) collecting relevant information. It has signed several international agreements with many countries on this matter, and is also looking for international cooperation to recover the relics by working closely with several international organizations. 12. What is the passage mainly about? A. The best way to recover cultural relics. B. The efforts to recover Chinese cultural relics. C. Stanley Ho donated a bronze pig’s head to Beijing. D. Chinese cultural relics were stolen by the Anglo-French Allied Army. 13. What we can know about the bronze pig’s head? A. It was made in the Ming Dynasty. B. It is now in the Poly Art museum in Beijing. C. It was donated by the French government to China. D. It was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 150 years ago. 14. What does the underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Possible. B. Difficult. C. Wonderful. D. Careful. 15. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. China has enough money to buy all the cultural relics back. B. Many countries have returned the lost cultural relics to China for free. C. The Chinese government has done a lot to recover the lost cultural relics. D. China is preparing to set up a database to collect information about the lost cultural relics. B 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第三段“In some cases, private collectors donated the relics to the government. Also, the government can turn to official channels to demand the return of relics.(在某些情况下,私人收藏家将这些文物捐赠给了政府。政府还可以通过官方渠道要求归还文物)”和第六段“In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics lost overseas.(近年来,中国政府加大了追回海外流失珍贵文物的力度)”可知,这篇文章主要讲的是为收回丢失的中国文物所做的努力。 根据倒数第三段“Macao entrepreneur Stanley Ho donated 6 million yuan to buy it back from a US art collector and then donated it to the Poly Art Museum in Beijing.(澳门企业家何鸿燊捐赠600万元人民币,从一位美国艺术收藏家手中买下了这幅画,然后将其捐赠给了北京保利美术馆)”可知,青铜猪头现在在北京保利美术馆。 根据划线词所在句“Although buyingback is the most feasible way to recover the lost treasures, limited funding is always a big headache.” 故选A。 根据最后一段“In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics lost overseas. It has started a national project on the recovery of the treasures and has set up a database (数据库) collecting relevant information. It has signed several international agreements with many countries on this matter, and is also looking for international cooperation to recover the relics by working closely with several international organizations.(近年来,中国政府加大了收回海外失去的珍贵文物的力度。它已经启动了一个国家项目,寻找宝藏,并建立了一个数据库,收集相关信息。中国已经与许多国家就此事签署了多项国际协议,并且正在寻求与多个国际组织密切合作,寻求国际合作以恢复文物)”可推知,中国政府在收回海外失去的珍贵文物方面已经付出了很大的努力。选项C. The Chinese government has done a lot to recover the lost cultural relics.(中国政府已经做了很多工作来追回丢失的文物)符合题意。 If the only reading you ever do is the novel or magazine, the speed at which you read -probably does not matter very much. He needed money to pay the tuition, so he played the violin at the railway station every day to make money. The music was so great that many people stopped to put some money into the hat of the young man. The next day, Anthony came to the same place, and put his hat on the ground gracefully. Different from the day before, he took out a large piece of paper and laid it under his hat. Then he began to play the violin. It sounded more pleasant than ever. Soon he was surrounded by people who were attracted by the words on that paper. It said, “Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Please come to get it soon.” After about half an hour, a middle-aged man rushed through the crowd to the violinist and said, “Yes, it’s you. I knew that you were an honest man and would certainly come here.” The young violinist asked calmly, “Are you Mr George Sang?” The man nodded. Then George offered to share with Anthony the lottery money he won, but Anthony refused. So moved was George that he patted Anthony’s shoulder and expressed his gratitude to him from the bottom of his heart, with tears in his eyes. A smile spread across Anthony’s face and he felt a wave of happiness flooding over him. Anthony’s good deed was posted on social media and went viral. When asked why he had done so, Anthony said it was honesty that made him give back the lottery ticket to George. He was very proud of what he had done. 4. 8. D More than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas, lots of which were stolen and illegally shipped out of China during the times of war before 1949. 14. The violinist was a student at an arts college and had planned to attend advanced studies in Vienna. Please come to get it soon.” After about half an hour a middle-aged man rushed through the crowd to the violinist and said, “Yes, it’s you. I knew that you were an honest man and would certainly come here.” The young violinist asked calmly, “Are you Mr George Sang?” The man nodded.
