Recent research shows that physical activity may help students do better in their classes.
The research comes because educators in some countries are reducing time for activities like the PE class.
Researchers go over the results of fourteen studies. Twelve were from the United States, one from Canada and one from South Africa. The studies appeared between 2009 and 2013. They included more than 55,000 children, aged six to eighteen.
Thomas Singh, one of the researchers, says the studies showed a relationship between physical activity and scores on subjects such as maths, English and reading. Mr Singh offers some possible explanations (解释):
“First, there are physiological (生理学的) explanations, like more blood flow, and so more oxygen to the brain. Being physically active means there are more hormones (激素) produced like endorphins (内啡肽), and endorphins make your stress level lower and your mood improved, which means you will perform better in class. Also, students who take part in organised sports learn rules about organising and how to follow them. This can improve their classroom behaviour and help them know what they should do.”
All in all, the findings tell us that physically active kids are more likely to do better in schools. Ms Singh says schools should consider the findings before they cut physical education programmes.
21.The recent research shows physical activities are _________ in the kids’ studies.
A.careful B.beautiful C.harmful D.helpful
22.How many countries took part in the studies?
A.3. B.12. C.8. D.4.

Hearing the cheers and applause (掌声) from the teachers and students, I knew I made it.

When I was 11 years old, I got into very big trouble as a kid. It was a Saturday morning. Both my parents were out, leaving me and my 10-month-old sister alone. Anyway, my sister was still asleep in her room. In fact, I had the house to myself. I decided to do some drawing. Soon I gave up. Nothing was on TV, so I felt bored and touched the candles on the shelf… I had an idea! What would happen if I set fire to some kitchen paper? Well, of course it went on fire, but it wasn’t the tiny flame (火焰) I’d expected, and I couldn’t blow it out. I threw it on the floor, and then luckily got my dad’s boots (靴子) and stamped it out.
I thought I was safe until I found there was a huge hole on the floor. When my mum came home later, she smelt the smoke immediately. She dropped the shopping bag, luckily for me, over the hole. I thought this meant she would never see it. However, after running round the house checking for a fire, she of course picked up the bag and saw the hole. Next I was grounded (关禁闭) for months. Club Activity RecommendationDear friends,
I want to tell you about our school’s art club. It is very popular because it is fun and creative. We draw, paint, and make crafts. This helps us relax and feel happy.
My advice is to start a simple art club at your school, too. First, find a teacher who likes art. Then, meet once a week. Use easy materials like paper and crayons. Let students draw things they love. You can also have a small show to share your art. It will bring joy and color to your school.
I hope you will try it and have fun!
Yours sincerely,

(一)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。

Life is full of surprises as long as you try your best in the face of challenges. I still remember my music teacher Ms. Smith, and her words “Be a true winner in your own heart” encourage me to improve myself in many ways.
I used to be a shy boy and I was anxious about taking part in school activities. Once, to make the performance colorful, I was told to show Chinese kung fu. Though I have learned it since four years ago, I was still worried about it. After all, it was the first time for me to stand on stage (舞台) in front of so many teachers and students.

Hearing the cheers and applause (掌声) from the teachers and students, I knew I made it.
When I finished my show, I ran towards Ms. Smith and gave her a big hug. It was Ms. Smith that made me realize how strong I could be. The valuable experience did give me a great lesson. It encouraged me to keep challenging myself to be a better man.

The hole was still there, reminding (提醒) me of what I did.
27.When did the trouble happen to the writer?
A.In the morning. B.In the afternoon.
C.At noon. D.In the evening.
28.What do the underlined words “stamped it out” in the first paragraph mean?

Boys and girls, before we start, there are a few things you need to keep in mind: First, safety first—don’t pour water onto desks. Second, follow the steps strictly. Third, observe (观察) carefully. Fourth, class rules: work quietly in groups and raise your hand if you have questions. Today we are going to find out how air pressure affects (影响) the water in the straw!
Class: Physics Date: 2025/12/09
An Experiment (实验) about Air PressureMaterials:
Steps:
·Fill the cup with water until it’s almost full.
·Put the straw into the water.
·Cover the top of the straw with your finger tightly (紧紧地) and lift the straw up.
·Observe what happens to the water in the straw.
The science behind it:
Air pressure is all around us. When you cover the top of the straw with your finger, you stop the air from getting into the top of the straw. The air pressure below the water (from the cup) pushes the water up into the straw, so the water stays in the straw even when you lift it.
