Quizlet When learning English, you probably have to memorize a lot of words. If you want to grow your vocabulary as fast as possible, a flashcard app like Quizlet is a great shortcut. With Quizlet, you can create a set of flashcards with new English words you are trying to learn, and practice typing them out until you know them by heart. It's a simple concept, but it's highly effective. Spotify Spotify is not a language learning app. But chances are that you already use it or a similar app for listening to music or podcasts(播客), and one of the effective ways to study is combining something you already use into your existing habits. If Spotify is already on your phone, you can subscribe to some podcasts for English learners or download playlists of songs for learning English, or make your own. Beelinguapp Beelinguapp makes reading in English as convenient as possible. It shows you a text in your own language with the English translation side - by - side. Texts are short enough so that you can really dig into every word. They cover topics from fairytales, to science, to current news articles. There's even a ‘karaoke’ feature where you can read along to audio, which helps you match up the English pronunciation with the English spellings. Tandem Tandem is a language exchange app which connects learners from all over the world. It can help you find a native English speaker who is trying to learn your native language, so you can swap language skills. If you only have five minutes to spare, you can simply exchange messages with a native English speaker. If you have more time, you can have a longer, digital language exchange by sharing voice notes, or using video chat. It's a great way to test your English skills out with real people. 11. What is Spotify intended to help people do? A. Develop a good habit. B. Listen to music or podcasts. C. Learn a foreign language. D. Memorize words with flashcards. 12. What is the advantage of Beelinguapp? A. Learners can use their native language as a reference. B. It's convenient for learners to translate voice notes. C. It provides learners a chance to tell their own stories. D. Learners can sing English songs along to the music. 13. Which app can help people interact with a native speaker? A. Quizlet. B. Spotify. C. Beelinguapp. D. Tandem. B "The Last Dance", the documentary(纪录片), told the story of Michael Jordan and his success with the Chicago Bulls. We learned a lot about Michael Jordan and his championships. We took behind - the - scenes glimpses(一瞥) at what it's like to compete in the NBA. We were given a glimpse into the 90s basketball era(时代) at a time when almost no sports are being played. But it also meant something for our culture, experts say. Dr. Josh Shuart, the director of sport management at the Jack Welch College of Business &Technology at Sacred Heart University (Connecticut), told the Deseret News that the documentary showed something important for our modern society. Watching "The Last Dance" gave us something to look forward to during a time when there's nothing else going on, he said. "Why is it important and why did people watch it? The latter is simple: with the absence of live sports of any kind, it was probably the single most interesting thing on TV," Shuart said in an email to the Deseret News. Michael Jordan matters for sports culture, too. Jordan set the standard when it came to connecting athletes to brands(品牌) and brands to athletes. Athletes can take care of their brand during their careers and even well into retirement(退休). Shaquille O'Neal is an example, Shuart said. The Los Angeles Lakers legend - though highly celebrated for his basketball career - has built post - basketball success through business opportunities. There might not have been too much new content in "The Last Dance" for sports fans who grew up in the Jordan era. But storytelling still provides a path for us to find happiness, Shuart said. "Above all, even though we know the beginning, middle, and end, the storytelling provides amazing insight and results in a very interesting story," he said. 14. What is "The Last Dance" mainly about? A. The history of the Chicago Bulls. B. Michael Jordan's growing - up experience. C. The development of basketball in the 1990s. D. Michael Jordan's success with the Chicago Bulls. 15. Why did the author take Shaquille O'Neal as an example? A. To compare Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal. B. To discuss why basketball means a lot to most people. C. To show Michael Jordan's great influence on other athletes. D. To prove that it takes athletes much hard work to be successful. 16. What does Shuart think of "The Last Dance"? A. It is boring for most people. B. It is encouraging and successful. C. It can't attract Michael Jordan's fans. D. It shows Michael Jordan's unknown life. 7. Where does the text probably come from? A. A TV guide. B. A business report. C. An official notice. D. A documentary review. C When scientists look for an earthquake's cause, their search often starts underground. As centuries of earthquake researches have made clear, it's the crash of makeup plates and the movement of underground faults and cracks that mainly lead to an earthquake. But MIT scientists have now found that certain weather events may also play a role in setting off some quakes. In a study appearing recently in Science Advances, the researchers report that happenings of heavy snowfall and rain likely led to a series of earthquakes over the past several years in northern Japan. The study is the first to show that climate conditions could cause some quakes. "We see that snowfall and other environmental loading at the surface affect the stress state underground, and the timing of heavy rainfall events is well - connected with the start of this earthquake crowds," says study author William Frank, an assistant professor in MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences. "So, climate obviously has an effect on the response of the solid earth, and part of that response is earthquakes." The new study focuses on a series of ongoing earthquakes in Japan's Noto Peninsula. The team discovered that earthquake activity in the area is surprisingly in step with certain changes in underground pressure, and that those changes are influenced by seasonal patterns of snowfall and rainfall. The scientists doubt that this new connection between quakes and climate may not be unique to Japan and could play a role in shaking up other parts of the world. Looking to the future, they predict that the climate's influence on earthquakes could be more pronounced with global warming. "If we're going into a climate that's changing, with more extreme rainfall events, and we expect a redistribution of water in the atmosphere, oceans, and continents, that will change how the Earth's crust (地壳) is loaded," Frank adds. "That will have an effect for sure, and it's a link we could further explore." 18. What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 1? A. Introduce the main topic. B. Describe a scientific experiment. C. Present different opinions on earthquakes. D. Explain the causes of earthquakes in detail. 19. What is the finding of the study? A. Heavy rainfall indicates big earthquakes. B. Global warming will lead to more snowfall. C. There will be more and more earthquakes in the future. D. Certain weather events may contribute to some earthquakes. 20. What does the underlined word "pronounced" mean in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Spoken B. Obvious C. Voiced D. Unclear 21. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs? A. The research results will be applied immediately. B. The influence of climate on earthquakes will decrease. C. There will be no earthquakes caused by underground faults. D. More research on the climate - earthquake link will be conducted. D Oleg Kononenko has become the first human to achieve 1,000 days of spaceflight over a 16-year career visiting and living on the International Space Station (ISS).The achievement comes on his fifth flight to space and during his third term as the commander of the ISS. He will become one of the most valuable human biology specimens (生物标本) in the world. Given that both the Artemis Accords and the International Lunar Research Station initiative (倡议) aim to send men and women on longer and longer missions to space, including semi-permanent (半永久的)habitation of the moon and eventually a journey to Mars, scientists need to understand what long-term presence in outer space will do to the human body. To that end, Kononenko, who has routinely spent many hundreds of continuous days and even years in low-Earth orbit, will be providing data points "days, months and years," after his return, says Emmanuel Urquieta, the former chief medical officer of the NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), led by Baylor College of Medicine. Urquieta explains that medicine in space is a growing field, and that the effects of the space environment on eye health, bone loss, and blood flow are not well understood, nor are the impacts of long-term radiation exposure (辐射暴露) and space sickness. I'm sure that there will be a lot of research coming up in the future when he comes back to Earth and I'm sure that there will be a very long follow-up with him, you know, days, months, and years after, to try really to understand these very unique data points," Urquieta says. "When you project the data that we have from six-month missions to 900 days, there's still a huge gap of data that we need to address so that we can safely say that, 'OK, we have enough data that we confidently say that we're able to send someone to Mars and make sure that that person is going to come back as healthy as he or she left Earth.'" 22. What do we know about Kononenko? A. He set a record for the most time in space. B. He discovered a valuable biology specimen. C. He completed three space flights in 16 years. D. He contributed to the establishment of the ISS. 23. What do the underlined words "To that end" in paragraph 3 refer to? A. To improve life support systems in space. B. To explore the potential for lunar habituation. C. To study the effects of living in space. D. To select astronauts for a journey to Mars. 24. What can be concluded about Kononenko from the last two paragraphs? A. His career will be fruitful. B. He will conduct new space missions. C. His long - term data will be important. D. He will inspire confidence in others. 25. What is the best title for the text? A. Increased Focuses on Spaceflight Safety Concerns B. New Opportunities for Space Health Studies C. Future Possibilities for Space Travel D. Big Challenges in Space Exploration 第二节 (共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 If you lived in Antarctica, the continent which is the most southern area of land on the Earth, you'd get to experience icequakes nearly every day. What is an icequake? The name might make you think of earthquakes. 26 Both icequakes and earthquakes cause the ground to shake. They can both be measured by instruments called seismographs. The biggest difference between the two is how they're caused. Many people already know what causes earthquakes. Icequakes, on the other hand, happen when water in the ground freezes (结冰) very quickly. When water freezes, it expands (膨胀). 27 In some cases, it can even cause cracks (裂缝) in the ground above. 28 Experts there say Earth's coldest continent has had hundreds of thousands of them in recent years. They've also shared that most icequakes happen at night when temperatures drop Why is Antarctica experiencing so many icequakes? You might imagine the very low temperatures are the cause. 29 Rising temperatures cause Antarctic ice to melt (融化). This makes water that can freeze again to cause an icequake. What does an icequake feel like? ___30___ Often, people don't feel them at all. But they can usually hear an icequake. It makes a loud pop (砰的响声). Do icequakes only happen in Antarctica? No!
