Here are some introductions to popular clubs to help you find the right fit. Speech Club Do you enjoy talking? Do you think you can be a future lawyer? Try out for the school’s speech team. You will not only meet new people and make new friends but also practice public speaking — a valuable, important skill you will use at every stage of your life. By researching and debating hot-button political, social, and environmental topics, you will also become more aware and up-to-date on current events. Band Club Are you in a band in junior high? If so, you probably remember always hanging around with your musical partners. The high school band is not just a fine arts elective (选修课) but also a dynamic (动感的) club. Members get to perform in concerts and even go on trips to places like Disneyland. It’s also worth noting that studies show students involved in music education tend to achieve higher academic grades. You read it right. Red Cross Club If you are interested in the medical field, consider joining the American Red Cross Club. As part of this club, which works with the local Red Cross chapter, you can receive training to become a lifeguard, learn to perform CPR, or even become a trained instructor who teaches these skills to others. Language Clubs Are you interested in learning or practicing a language like Spanish, French, or German? A language club is a perfect choice. These clubs organize various charity and cultural events throughout the school year, allowing you to help people in need while also making new friends. 1. Which club is the most suitable if you dream of becoming a lawyer? A. Speech Club. B. Band Club. C. Red Cross Club. D. Language Clubs. 2. What is an advantage of joining the Band Club? A. It helps improve school grades. B. It develops speaking skills. C. It includes speech performance trips. D. It provides medical training. 3. What do Red Cross Club and Language Clubs have in common? A. Making new friends. B. Supporting people in need. C. Learning foreign languages. D. Gaining first-aid knowledge. A 2. A 3. 根据文章Speech Club部分“Do you think you can be a future lawyer?(你认为你能成为一名未来律师吗?) ”可知,梦想成为律师的学生最适合加入演讲俱乐部。故选A。 根据文章Band Club部分“It’s also worth noting that studies show students involved in music education tend to achieve higher academic grades.(值得注意的是,研究表明,接受音乐教育的学生往往能取得更高的学业成绩。)” 故选A。 根据文章Red Cross Club部分“As part of this club, which works with the local Red Cross chapter, you can receive training to become a lifeguard, learn to perform CPR, or even become a trained instructor who teaches these skills to others.(作为这个与当地红十字会分会合作的俱乐部的一部分,你可以接受培训,成为一名救生员,学习实施心肺复苏术,甚至成为一名训练有素的教练,向他人传授这些技能。)” 再根据文章Language Clubs部分“These clubs organize various charity and cultural events throughout the school year, allowing you to help people in need while also making new friends.(这些俱乐部组织各种慈善和文化活动,能让你帮助有需要的人,同时也能交到新朋友。)” B。 B I was waiting in the checkout line behind a woman in her 60s. When her turn came, the cashier addressed her by name and asked how she was. The woman replied: “Not well, honestly. My husband recently lost his job and my son is back to his old tricks. I don’t know how I’m going to get through the holidays.” Then she paid with food stamps. My heart ached. I felt a strong urge to help, yet remained uncertain how to properly offer help — whether by paying for her groceries, or perhaps asking for her husband’s resume (简历). Walking to the parking lot, I noticed her returning her cart. It was then I remembered something I had in my purse. It wasn’t money, or a job offer, but I hoped it might comfort her. Nervous, I approached her. “Excuse me,” I said, my voice trembling. “I couldn’t help but overhear you inside. It sounds like you’re going through a hard time now — I’m truly sorry. I’d like to give you something.” I then handed her a small card from my purse. As her eyes fell upon the words on the card, she began to cry. “You have no idea how much this means to me,” she expressed through tears. I was startled by her reply. Having never done anything like this before, I didn’t know what to expect. “May I give you a hug?” I asked. We shared a brief embrace before I returned to my car — and began to cry too. The card read: “You Matter.” Weeks earlier, a friend had given me a similar card during a challenging project I was working on. Reading those words had spread a lingering warmth through me. So deeply was I touched that I later ordered a box of my own “You Matter” cards and started sharing them. 4. What problem did the woman face according to paragraph 1? A. The salesgirl was rude to her. B. She was lost in the supermarket. C. Her husband was out of work. D. She was unable to pay for her food. 5. How did the woman feel when she read the card? A. She was deeply touched to read it. B. She was really glad to buy food with it. C. She was sad to get a card from a stranger. D. She was happy to solve her problems with it. 6. What does the underlined word “startled” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Interested. B. Grateful. C. Frightened. D. Surprised. 7. Why does the author mention her friend giving her a similar card? A. To explain the card’s source. B. To attract readers to give cards. C. To thank for her friend’s kindness. D. To prove she understood its power. C 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段中女人的话“My husband recently lost his job and my son is back to his old tricks. (我丈夫最近丢了工作,我儿子又犯起了老毛病。)”可知,这位女士面临的问题之一是她的丈夫失业了。故选C项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“As her eyes fell upon the words on the card, she began to cry. “You have no idea how much this means to me,” she expressed through tears. (当她的目光落在卡片上的字时,她哭了起来。“你不知道这对我来说有多重要,”她含着泪说。)”可知,这位女士读卡片时深受感动。故选A项。 根据第四段中“Having never done anything like this before, I didn’t know what to expect. (我从来没有做过这样的事,不知道会发生什么。)”可知,作者之前从未做过类似的事情,所以当女士有如此强烈的反应时,作者应该是感到“惊讶的”,划线词startled与D项“Surprised”意思相近。故选D项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Weeks earlier, a friend had given me a similar card during a challenging project I was working on. Reading those words had spread a lingering warmth through me. So deeply was I touched that I later ordered a box of my own “You Matter” cards and started sharing them. (几周前,在我从事一个具有挑战性的项目时,一位朋友给了我一张类似的卡片。读着这些话,一种挥之不去的温暖在我心中蔓延开来。我被深深地打动了,后来我订购了一盒自己的“你很重要”卡片,并开始分享它们。)”可知,作者提到朋友给她类似的卡片是为了证明她理解卡片的力量,即卡片上的话语能给人带来温暖和力量。故选D项。 C On December 26, 2004, an earthquake along the Indian Ocean caused a huge tsunami (海啸) that killed many people. However, wildlife officials at Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park reported no mass animal deaths. This phenomenon has caused an on-going debate: can animals truly predict (预测) earthquakes? Some researchers believe that the animals at the park were able to sense the earthquake and moved to higher ground before the earthquake. Animals have good senses that help protect themselves from being hunted by their natural enemies. It is thought that their senses might also help them sense the coming disasters. Several countries have done research on the prediction of earthquakes by animals. There are two theories about animals’ sensing earthquakes. One theory is that animals sense the earth’s shake. The other is that they can sense changes in the air. However, so far there has been no strong evidence about how animals sense earthquakes. The absence of strong evidence makes other researchers skeptical (怀疑) about using animals for earthquake predictions. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) officially states, “Changes in animal behaviors cannot be used to predict earthquakes. Even though there have been many cases of unusual animal behaviors before earthquakes, a connection between a specific behavior and an earthquake has not been made. Because of their fine senses, animals can often feel the earthquake at its earliest stages before humans. That’s why people say that the animal knew the earthquake was coming. But animals can also change their behaviors for many other reasons. If an earthquake can shake millions of people, it is likely that a few of their pets will, by chance, be acting strangely before the earthquake.” Despite this disagreement, scientists generally agree that animals can sense environmental changes before humans. Researchers around the world are continuing to study the connection between animal behaviors and earthquakes. It is hoped that these studies will help to predict earthquakes. 8. What can we know about animals’ senses? A. They are useless in daily life. B. They are helpful to find more food. C. They can help protect themselves. D. They can prevent strange behaviors. 9. What does the USGS’view suggest? A. Animal behaviors can predict earthquakes. B. Animals can have many unusual behaviors. C. Animals change behaviors for many reasons. D. Animal behaviors are linked to earthquakes. 10. What is the author’s attitude to scientists’ study? A. Hopeful. B. Uncertain. C. Objective. D. Skeptical. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. The Prediction of Earthquakes B. Animals and Earthquake Prediction C. A New Discovery from the USGS D. The Mystery of Yala National Park 【答案】8. C 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第二段中“Animals have good senses that help protect themselves from being hunted by their natural enemies. (动物有良好的感官,有助于保护自己免受天敌的捕猎。)”可知,动物的感官能帮助它们保护自己。故选C项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中美国地质调查局(USGS)的表述“Even though there have been many cases of unusual animal behaviors before earthquakes, a connection between a specific behavior and an earthquake has not been made. Because of their fine senses, animals can often feel the earthquake at its earliest stages before humans. That’s why people say that the animal knew the earthquake was coming. But animals can also change their behaviors for many other reasons. (尽管在地震前有很多动物行为异常的案例,但尚未发现特定行为与地震之间的联系。由于动物的感官敏锐,它们通常能在人类之前感受到地震的早期阶段。这就是为什么人们说动物知道地震要来了。但动物也可能因为其他许多原因而改变行为。)”可知,美国地质调查局认为动物改变行为有很多原因,不能仅凭动物行为就预测地震。故选C项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Despite this disagreement, scientists generally agree that animals can sense environmental changes before humans. Researchers around the world are continuing to study the connection between animal behaviors and earthquakes. It is hoped that these studies will help to predict earthquakes. (尽管存在这种分歧,科学家们普遍认为动物能在人类之前感知环境变化。世界各地的研究人员正在继续研究动物行为与地震之间的联系。希望这些研究将有助于预测地震。)”可知,作者对科学家们的研究是抱有希望的。故选A项。 D Recently a young businessman who was born in the 1990s attracted a lot of attention online. He is Wang Xingxing, CEO and founder of Unitree Robotics. His team made the handkerchief-spinning robot that became very popular in this year’s Spring Festival Gala. After the event, Wang told reporters in an interview, “The development of AI robot is moving at a surprisingly fast speed, faster than anyone expected.” He believes that human-like robots will reach a new level by the end of this year. By next year or the year after, they will be widely used in both the service and industrial fields. Wang explained that in the future, such robots are expected to be used in more ways, such as special or dangerous jobs, including fighting fires and saving people. Wang’s strong interest in robots started in 2013. As a university student, he built his first four-legged robot, XDog. Two years later, he won a competition and an 80,000-yuan prize with it. His real turning point came in 2016, when an online video of XDog became very popular, and this brought him enough money to start his own company. The following year, he developed all the technology by himself and sold his first commercial four-legged robot. Since then, Wang’s robotic dogs have become more advanced and more popular. After the handkerchief-spinning robot amazed everyone at the Spring Festival Gala, Unitree Robotics posted a dancing video of the G1 robot on February 14th. Its movements were so smooth and natural that some people even questioned whether the video was generated by AI. Wang Xingxing has big dreams for the future of robots. He hopes to combine robots with medical science. He imagines a world where human-like robots can produce even smaller robots — all the way down to the size of a cell. 12. What made Wang’s team become well-known? A. His speech at the conference. B. The handkerchief-spinning robot. C. The dancing video of the G1 robot. D. The founding of Unitree Robotics. 13. What can we infer from Wang’s words about human-like robots? A. They will replace humans in all fields soon. B. They are mainly used in household services now. C. Their development speed is slower than expected. D. They will have a wide range of applications in the future. 14. Why did some people question the G1 robot’s dancing video? A. The video was too short. B. The robot looked too strange. C. The movements were too complex. D. The movements seemed too perfect. 15. What is the main idea of the passage? A. The future of AI-driven robots. B. The development of Unitree Robotics. C. Wang Xingxing’s business story and vision. D. The Spring Festival Gala’s robot performance. B 13. D 14. D 15. 根据文章第一段“His team made the handkerchief-spinning robot that became very popular in this year’s Spring Festival Gala.(他的团队制造了在今年春晚上大受欢迎的“转手绢机器人”)”可知,他的团队制造了在今年春晚上大受欢迎的“转手绢机器人”,这正是他们成名的直接原因。 根据文章第二段“By next year or the year after, they will be widely used in both the service and industrial fields. Wang explained that in the future, such robots are expected to be used in more ways, such as special or dangerous jobs, including fighting fires and saving people. (到明年或者后年,它们将会广泛地应用于服务业和工业领域。王解释道,在未来,这样的机器人应用有望更广,比如说一些特殊的危险的工作领域,包括消防、救援方面。)”可知,王兴兴的预测机器人会广泛地应用于其他领域,且根据他对机器人将在消防、救援等专业环境有更广应用的阐述,可以推断出,他认为人形机器人未来将有广泛的应用。故选D。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Its movements were so smooth and natural that some people even questioned whether the video was generated by AI.(它的动作如此流畅和自然,以至于一些人甚至质疑该视频是否是AI生成的。)” 根据文章第一段“Recently, a young businessman who was born in the 1990s attracted a lot of attention online. He is Wang Xingxing, CEO and founder of Unitree Robotics. Workout fads (狂热) come and go, but virtually no other exercise program is as lasting as yoga (瑜伽). It originated from India and it’s been around for more than 5,000 years. ____16____ ____17____ Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It’s a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation. Research shows yoga can help manage stress, improve mood, and enhance the quality of sleep. In addition, yoga has been shown to increase flexibility, improve balance and increase strength. ____18____ All these types, from the peaceful hatha to the high-intensity power yoga, take your workout to a level of mind-body connection. People of all ages and fitness levels can do the most basic yoga poses and stretches. You can do yoga anywhere, indoors or out. You’ll need to use a yoga mat to keep you from sliding around in standing poses, and to cushion you while in seated and lying positions. ____19____ It includes a yoga ball for balance, a yoga block or two, and straps to help you reach for your feet or link your hands behind your back. Even though there are many instructional books and DVDs on yoga, it is well worth it to invest in some classes with a good instructor who can show you how to do the postures. But if you don’t live near a studio, or you’re the on-the-go type who struggles to make time for a regular class, doing yoga at home can help you fit the practice into your life. ____20____ Simply choose the time and the length of the session that works for you, and get your “om” on at home. A. Other optional equipment may also be needed. B. There are more than 100 different forms of yoga. C. Now it is a popular practice throughout the world. D. These diverse benefits partly explain yoga’s global popularity. E. Therefore, finding a qualified instructor is highly recommended. F. Yoga has long been praised for its physical and spiritual benefits. G. You don’t have to wait for a specific class time or commit to a class. C 17. F 18. B 19. A 20. 前文“It originated from India and it’s been around for more than 5,000 years. (它起源于印度,已经存在了5000多年。)”介绍瑜伽的起源地和悠久历史;下文开始详细说明瑜伽的各种好处。选项C“Now it is a popular practice throughout the world.(如今它已成为一项风靡全球的运动)”完美承接“悠久历史”,并引出后文它为何如此受欢迎的原因,起到过渡作用。 后文“Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It’s a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation. Research shows yoga can help manage stress, improve mood, and enhance the quality of sleep. In addition, yoga has been shown to increase flexibility, improve balance and increase strength.(瑜伽不仅仅是燃烧卡路里和增强肌肉。这是一种全面的身心锻炼,结合了强化和伸展姿势,深呼吸,冥想或放松。研究表明,瑜伽可以帮助管理压力,改善情绪,提高睡眠质量。此外,瑜伽已被证明可以增加柔韧性,改善平衡和增强力量。)”详细列举了瑜伽的诸多好处,如燃烧卡路里、塑造肌肉、管理压力、改善情绪、提高睡眠质量、增加柔韧性等。选项F“Yoga has long been praised for its physical and spiritual benefits.(瑜伽长期以来因其对身体和精神的益处而备受赞誉)”全面概括了本段主旨,指出瑜伽对身心有益,引出后文对益处的详细阐述。故选F。 【18题详解】 根据后文“All these types, from the peaceful hatha to the high-intensity power yoga, take your workout to a level of mind-body connection.(从舒缓的哈他瑜伽到高强度的力量瑜伽,这些不同类型的瑜伽,都能将你的锻炼提升至身心联结的境界。)” B“There are more than 100 different forms of yoga.(瑜伽有一百多种不同的形式)”指出有100多种不同类型的瑜伽,与后文形成紧密衔接,后文中的“All these types”指代选项中的“more than 100 different forms of yoga”。故选B。 【19题详解】 前文“You’ll need to use a yoga mat to keep you from sliding around in standing poses, and to cushion you while in seated and lying positions.(你需要一个瑜伽垫来防止你站着的姿势滑动,当你坐着和躺着的时候,你需要一个垫子来缓冲。)”指出练习瑜伽时需要一张瑜伽垫,这是必备的装备;后文“It includes a yoga ball for balance, a yoga block or two, and straps to help you reach for your feet or link your hands behind your back.(它包括一个保持平衡的瑜伽球,一两块瑜伽砖,以及能帮你够到双脚或在背后完成双手相扣动作的伸展带。)” A“Other optional equipment may also be needed.(可能还需要其他可选装备)”中的“Other optional equipment”完美衔接了前文的“yoga mat”,引出后文对具体额外装备的列举。后文中“It”指代选项中“Other optional equipment”。故选A。 20题详解】 前文“But if you don’t live near a studio, or you’re the on-the-go type who struggles to make time for a regular class, doing yoga at home can help you fit the practice into your life.(不过,如果你住的地方离瑜伽馆很远,或是你属于那种日程繁忙、很难抽出固定时间去上课的人,在家练习瑜伽也能让你把这项运动融入日常生活。) ”讨论在家练习瑜伽的便利性;选项G“You don’t have to wait for a specific class time or commit to a class.(你不必等待特定的课程时间或非要上课)”具体解释了在家练习如何带来“便利”和“灵活性”,是对前文观点的最好例证和总结。 Holly Cooke wasn’t a fan of weekends for a long time. Nervous I approached her. A. C On December 26, 2004, an earthquake along the Indian Ocean caused a huge tsunami (海啸) that killed many people. The Mystery of Yala National Park D Recently, a young businessman who was born in the 1990s attracted a lot of attention online.
