As a child,I never considered myself an athlete at all as I was very uncoordinated(不协调的),

suffered a knee injury.I was bedridden for two weeks and I had a diffieult time moving even short
distances.I literally cried myself on my way to the car for a few days.
When therapy wasn't working well for me,I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls,Bikram Yoga to
be exact.Starting a yoga practice was truly a godsend because it helped me gain strength in my knees but,
most importantly, yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.
Since each class was heated to 105F,every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio,I'd feel a surge
(of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave,Some of these thoughts were,in the
beginning of my practice,so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However,as the months
passed by,I noticed that when I didn't get swayed away by my negative thoughts,I could stay in the hot
room for longer.
After 3-4 months of practicing hot yoga,my arms and legs were beginning to get definition.I also

woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started
shedding the pounds from my body.Yoga literally made me feel as if I'd taken a shot of energy drink and
just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overalt health better.
As I saw some of my classmates do poses that jooked appealing to me,I started to think maybe I
could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set
those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative limiting terms.
Also, practicing yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practicing with a
group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humanity whereas before I
didn't.Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I'm part of a bigger picture in life!

Q
Once when I was facing a decision that involved high risk,I went to a friend. He looked at me for a
moment, and then wrote a sentence containing the best advice I've ever had:Be bold and brave-and
mighty(强大的)forces will come to your aid.
Those words made me see clearly that when I had fallen short in the past,it was seldom because I
had tried and failed. It was usually because I had let fear of failure stop me from irying at all.On the
other hand, whenever I had plunged into deep water, forced by courage or circumstance I had always
been able to swim until I got my feet on the ground again.
Boldness()means a decision to bite off more than you can eat.And there is nothing
mysterious about the mighty forces. They are potential powers we possess:energy, skill, sound judgment,
creative ideas-even physical strength greater than most of us realize.
Admittedly those mighty forces are spiritual ones. But they are more important than physical ones.

A college classmate of mine,Tim,was an excellent footbail player, even though he weighed inuch less
than the average player."In one game I suddenly found myself confronting a huge player, who had
nothing but me between him and our goal line,"said Tim."I was so frightened that I closed my eyes and
desperately threw myself at that guy like a bullet(子弹)一and stopped him cold.”
Boldness-a willingness to extend yourself to the extreme-is not one that can be acquired
overnight. But it can be taught to children and developed in adults.Confidence builds up.Surely, there
will be setbacks (and disappointments in life;boldness in itself is no guarantee of success. But the
person who tries to do something and fails is a lot better off than the person who tries to do nothing and
succeeds.
So,always try to live a little bit beyond your abilities-and you'll find your abilities are greater than
you ever dreamed.
61.Why was the author sometimes unable to reach his goal in the past?
A.He faced huge risks.

D.Learn to make creative decisions.
63.What was especially important for Tim's successful defense in the football game?
A.His physical strength.
B.His basic skill.
C.His real fear.
D.His spiritual force.
64.What can be learned from Paragraph 5?
A.Confidence grows more rapidly in adults
B.Trying without success is meaningless.

Although computer technology is often necessary today, using a pen or pencil activates more areas
of your brain than a keyboard does. You can potentially remember more by handwriting, according to a
new study.
The potential benefits of handwriting for memory have been debated for some time. The new study
set out to answer one question:How does handwriting compare to using a keyboard when it comes to
remembering new information?
In total 24 participants took part.Researchers asked each of them to write with a pen and then each
was also asked to type on a keyboard. While performing these tasks, each volunteer wore a cap that held
electrodes (next to their head.It looked somewhat like a hair net fitted with 256 sensors. Those
sensors recorded the participants'brainwaves. The electrodes noted which parts of the brain turned on
during each task. And they showed that writing turned on memory areas in the brain while typing didn't.
Audrey van der Meer, the new study's leader, says this suggests that when we write by hand,we
试卷第8页,共10页
remember better."This is because writing involves complex movements that activate more areas of the
brain. The increased brain activity gives the brain more hooks'to hang your memories on."she
explains.Van der Meer also points out that writing by hand is related to visual notetaking."Rather than
typing blindly, the visual notetaker has to think about what is important to write down. Then, key words
can be interlinked by boxes, arrows and small drawings,*she adds.
This study does not recommend banning digital devices. In fact, its authors point out, computers and
other devices with keyboards have become necessary in modern society.Keyboarding can especially
benefit those with certain special needs(such as if they have trouble using fheir hands)and typing beats
writing when it comes to speed, they add.
66.Why were participants asked to wear caps in the study?
A.To record their brainwaves.
B.To inform them of their tasks.
C.To allow them to focus on writing.
D.To protect their heads like hair nets.
67.What does Audrey van der Meer try to explain?
A.Why handwriting is more complex than typing.
B.Why the brain works when it comes to learning.
C.Why small drawings are connected to memory.
D.Why key words are helpful to visual notetaking.
68.What is the meaning of the underlined part in Paragraph 4?
A.helps you to remember more details.
B.reminds you to have regular reviews
C.tags your memories for further recalling.B.eases your tension of memorizing things.
69.What is the study's authors'view on typing?
A.It relieves people's hands
B.It remains vital and helpful.
C.It is not worth recommending.
D.It is more challenging than writing.
70.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.How Can You Remember New Information?
B.Handwriting Benefits Health in the Long Run
C.Should Typing Take the Place of Handwriting?
D.Handwriting Is Better for Memory Than Typing
