James Gunn’s Superman is a huge summer hit, having earned over $125 million in its opening weekend. But for all the appeal of the hero, played by David Corenswet, his co-star, Krypto, has been stealing the show. Throughout the movie, the cute dog proves to be a fantastic companion and friend. That’s probably why he has led to a 500% rise in interest in dog adoption, per dog training app Woofz.
“We analyzed Google search trends following the premiere (首映) and found something heartwarming: The character of Krypto, Superman’s Superdog, has caused a big jump in people adopting dogs,” writes the company. “Google searches for ‘adopt a dog near me’ jumped by +513% after the premiere weekend, and ‘rescue dog adoption near me’ rose by +163%. Searches for ‘adopt a puppy’ also increased by +31%.”
This rise in interest is all the more adorable considering that this version of Krypto is based on Gunn’s own rescue dog, Ozu. The New York Times reports that the director adopted Ozu while he was writing the film. Struggling to train Ozu, Gunn thought it would be much worse if his new dog had superpowers, inspiring the messy, wild version of Krypto that we see in Superman, as opposed to the more calm versions that appear in other media.
On top of serving as the main inspiration, Ozu was also the physical model for the CGI Krypto. Gunn wanted Krypto to resemble Ozu as closely as possible, resulting in him being subject to a 3D scan, switching his gray fur to white fur.
For Gunn, the fact that Krypto can be playful and noisy makes his loyalty even more important. In turn, the concept that Superman cares so much for him despite his behaviour is the greatest symbol of the superhero’s sympathy. Chances are that this sort of unconditional love is what audiences are hoping to find by welcoming their very own Krypto into their lives.
4. What has led to a huge rise in interest in dog adoption?
A. The popularity of Superman’s dog, Krypto.
B. The promotion by the dog training app Woofz.
C. The release of James Gunn’s Superman movie.
D. The performance of David Corenswet as the hero.
5. What can we know about Ozu?
A. It is a calm dog. B. It is tough to train.
C. It has superpowers. D. It was bought from a pet shop.
6. What does the underlined word “resemble” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Look like. B. Run after. C. Play with. D. Tend to.
7. What is the author’s attitude towards the rise in dog adoption interest?
A. Critical. B. Unconcerned. C. Positive. D. Doubtful.
A 5. B 6. A 7. C
根据第一段中“But for all the appeal of the hero, played by David Corenswet, his co-star, Krypto, has been stealing the show. Throughout the movie, the cute dog proves to be a fantastic companion and friend. That’s probably why he has led to a 500% rise in interest in dog adoption, per dog training app Woofz.( 尽管大卫·科伦斯威特(David Corenswet)饰演的男主角很有吸引力,但他的搭档氪星(Krypto)却抢尽了风头。在整部电影中,这只可爱的狗被证明是一个很棒的伴侣和朋友。根据狗狗训练应用Woofz的数据,这可能就是为什么他让领养狗的兴趣增加了500%。)”可知,是电影《超人》里的狗Krypto的受欢迎程度导致了人们领养狗的兴趣的激增。故选A项。
根据第三段中“Struggling to train Ozu, Gunn thought it would be much worse if his new dog had superpowers, inspiring the messy, wild version of Krypto that we see in Superman, as opposed to the more calm versions that appear in other media.( 在努力训练Ozu的过程中,Gunn认为,如果他的新狗拥有超能力,情况会更糟,这激发了我们在超人中看到的混乱、狂野的Krypto,而不是其他媒体中出现的更平静的Krypto。)”
根据第四段中“On top of serving as the main inspiration, Ozu was also the physical model for the CGI Krypto.( 除了作为主要的灵感来源,Ozu还是CGI Krypto的物理模型。)”以及划线单词句中“Gunn wanted Krypto to resemble Ozu as closely as possible, resulting in him being subject to a 3D scan, switching his gray fur to white fur.( Gunn希望Krypto尽可能地……Ozu,因此他接受了3D扫描,将他的灰色皮毛换成了白色皮毛。)” 故选A项。
根据作者在文中用“heartwarming”“adorable”等带有积极感情色彩的词汇来描述领养狗狗意愿上升这一现象,以及最后一段“For Gunn, the fact that Krypto can be playful and noisy, makes his loyalty even more important. In turn, the concept that Superman cares so much for him despite his behaviour is the greatest symbol of the superhero’s sympathy. Chances are that this sort of unconditional love is what audiences are hoping to find by welcoming their very own Krypto into their lives.( 在Gunn看来,Krypto活泼吵闹的天性,恰恰让它的忠诚显得愈发可贵。而超人不计较它的种种调皮行径,依旧对它关怀备至,这一点正是这位超级英雄心怀悲悯的最佳体现。观众们之所以想要在家中迎来属于自己的“Krypto”,很可能就是期盼能收获这般无条件的爱。)”可推知,作者对人们收养狗兴趣的上升持积极态度。故选C项。

In Matt Richtel’s latest book, How We Grow Up, the opening true story is deeply unsettling for parents of children approaching adolescence (青春期). Elaniv, once a cheerful and lively girl, underwent great changes after the beginning of adolescence. She struggled to focus on her studies, fell into depression, and despite her parents’ best efforts, ultimately took her own life.
Richtel looks into the potential mental health crisis among today’s youth, drawing on interviews, scientific research, historical data, and insights from leading experts. The book vividly describes how our modern world has reshaped the critical transition to adulthood, introducing new and tough challenges.
Adolescence, marked by shifts in brain chemistry, often sees young people becoming rebellious (叛逆的) and moody, as they try to figure out who they are. However, Richtel points out that in many countries, adolescence is starting earlier and lasting longer. For instance, since 1900, the average age for girls in the US to have their first period has dropped from 14 to 12, largely due to improved nutrition.
The world has also changed dramatically, with technology making us safer and better fed. Yet, the spaces for adolescent rebellion have shifted inward, focusing on identity and moral values, and much interaction now takes place online, where there’s more information to process and more people to compare oneself to. While this may explain the decline in risky behaviours like drinking and drunk driving among teens, it also leads to reduced physical activity, less sleep, and increased loneliness.
Richtel argues that adolescents’ bodies are maturing faster while their brains remain underdeveloped, forcing them to deal with a mentally taxing environment. The impact of the online world varies, but social media can strengthen existing emotions.
How We Grow Up is a book that is at times scary, enlightening, and hopeful. It reveals the realities of adolescence and offers guidance on how to handle them, whether you’re a teen or a parent. It comforts us that adolescent rebellion serves a deep purpose: not just to establish independence but to shape the future according to the next generation’s vision.
8. What happened to Elaniv after the beginning of adolescence?
A. She became more outgoing and confident.
B. She improved her studies and became independent.
C. She struggled academically and suffered from depression.
D. She focused on physical activities and lost interest in school.
9. What causes adolescence to start earlier in many countries?
A. The use of technology. B. Increased mental stress.
C. Brain chemistry shifts. D. Enhanced nutritional conditions.
10. What can be inferred about the modern world’s impact on adolescence?
A. It has reduced the need for identity exploration.
B. It has removed risky behaviours among teenagers.
C. It has made adolescence shorter and less challenging.
D. It has shifted the focus of rebellion to internal aspects.
11 What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce a book. B. To solve teen problems.
C. To discuss mental health. D. To explain adolescence changes.
C 9. D 10. D 11. A

根据第一段“Elaniv, once a cheerful and lively girl, underwent great changes after the beginning of adolescence. She struggled to focus on her studies, fell into depression, and despite her parents’ best efforts, ultimately took her own life.(埃莱妮芙原本是个活泼开朗的女孩,但在青春期开始后,她的状况发生了巨大的变化。她难以专心学习,陷入了抑郁状态,尽管父母竭尽全力,她最终还是选择了结束自己的生命)”可知,Elaniv进入青春期后学业受挫并陷入抑郁。故选C。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“For instance, since 1900, the average age for girls in the US to have their first period has dropped from 14 to 12, largely due to improved nutrition.(例如,自1900年以来,美国女孩首次来月经的平均年龄从14岁下降到了12岁,这主要是由于营养状况的改善所致)”可知,在许多国家,青少年期提前开始是因为营养条件的改善。
根据第四段“Yet, the spaces for adolescent rebellion have shifted inward, focusing on identity and moral values, and much interaction now takes place online, where there’s more information to process and more people to compare oneself to.(然而,青少年叛逆的空间已转向内心深处,更多地聚焦于自我认同和道德价值观。如今,大量的交流活动都在网络上进行,那里有更多的信息需要处理,也有更多的对象可供与之比较)”可知,现代世界将叛逆行为的焦点转移到了内在方面。故选D。

D
You’ve probably encountered images in your social media feeds that look like a cross between photographs and computer-generated graphics. Some are imaginative and some are believable at a quick look — remember the little girl carrying a little dog in a boat during a flood? These are examples of AI slop (垃圾), low-to mid-quality content — video, images, audio, text or a mix — created with AI tools, often with little regard for accuracy. It’s fast, easy and inexpensive to make this content. AI slop producers typically place it on social media to employ the economics of attention on the Internet, displacing higher-quality material that could be more helpful.
AI slop has been increasing over the past few years. As the term “slop” indicates, that’s generally not good for people using the Internet. The Guardian published an analysis in July 2025 examining how AI slop is taking over YouTube’s fastest-growing channels. The journalists found that nine out of the top 100 fastest-growing channels feature AI-generated content. In many cases, people submit AI slop that’s just good enough to attract and keep users’ attention, allowing the submitter to profit from platforms that monetize (变现) streaming and view-based content.
The ease of generating content with AI enables people to submit low-quality articles to publications. Clarkesworld, an online science fiction magazine that accepts user submissions and pays contributors, stopped taking new submissions in 2024 because of the flood of AI-generated writing it was getting.
AI slop also harms artists by causing job and financial losses and crowding out content made by real creators. The placement of this lower-quality AI-generated content is often not distinguished by the algorithms (算法) that drive social media consumption, and it displaces entire classes of creators who previously made their livelihood from online content.
Wherever it’s enabled, you can flag content that’s harmful or problematic. On some platforms, you can add community notes to the content to provide context. For harmful content, you can try to report it. Along with forcing us to be on guard for “inauthentic” social media accounts, AI is now leading to piles of rubbish degrading our media environment.
12. Why do producers create AI slop according to Paragraph 1?
A. To improve artistic expression globally.
B. To use Internet attention economies for profit.
C. To replace professional photographers forever.
D. To educate Internet users about new technologies.
13. What can we infer from Clarkesworld’s action in 2024?
A. Their subscriber base doubled unexpectedly. B. They began paying higher fees for human writers.
C. AI submissions flooded their system. D. Science fiction became less popular.
14. What should individuals do regarding the rise of AI slop?
A. Stop using AI-generated content completely.
B. Take active measures to deal with harmful AI content.
C. Rely on algorithms to screen out low-quality content.
D. Avoid engaging with social media platforms due to AI slop.
15. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. AI Slop: A New Form of Art B. The Positive Effects of AI on Media
C. The Role of Social Media in Promoting AI Slop D. AI Slop: The Growing Threat to Online Content
B 13. C 14. B 15. D

根据第一段中“AI slop producers typically place it on social media to employ the economics of attention on the Internet, displacing higher-quality material that could be more helpful.( 人工智能垃圾制造者通常将其放在社交媒体上,利用互联网上的注意力经济,取代可能更有帮助的更高质量的材料。)”以及第二段中“In many cases, people submit AI slop that’s just good enough to attract and keep users’ attention, allowing the submitter to profit from platforms that monetize (变现) streaming and view-based content.( 在许多情况下,人们提交的人工智能内容足以吸引和保持用户的注意力,从而允许提交者从通过流媒体和基于观看的内容赚钱的平台中获利。)”
根据第三段中“Clarkesworld, an online science fiction magazine that accepts user submissions and pays contributors, stopped taking new submissions in 2024 because of the flood of AI-generated writing it was getting.( 在线科幻杂志《克拉克世界》(Clarkesworld)接受用户投稿并向投稿者付费,但由于人工智能生成的文章泛滥成风,该杂志从2024年开始停止接受新投稿。)”
根据最后一段中“Wherever it’s enabled, you can flag content that’s harmful or problematic. On some platforms, you can add community notes to the content to provide context. For harmful content, you can try to report it.( 在启用它的地方,您可以标记有害或有问题的内容。在某些平台上,您可以向内容添加社区注释以提供上下文。对于有害内容,您可以尝试报告它。)”可推知,面对人工智能的崛起,个人应该采取积极措施应对有害人工智能内容。故选B项。

【16题详解】
根据前文“Comparison is a common habit that many of us fall into, constantly measuring ourselves against others and feeling inadequate (能力不足的) or envious as a result.( 攀比是我们很多人都会陷入的一种常见习惯,不断地拿自己和别人比较,结果感到不足或嫉妒。)”提出“攀比是常见习惯”,后文“Learning to appreciate and celebrate your individual journey is essential in breaking free from the destructive habit of comparison.( 学会欣赏和庆祝你的个人旅程对于摆脱攀比的破坏性习惯至关重要。)” C选项“However, this habit can be harmful to personal development.( 然而,这种习惯对个人发展是有害的。)”
根据后文“Take the time to reflect on what makes you special. Maybe you have a gift for problem-solving or a creative mind that sets you apart.( 花点时间思考是什么让你与众不同。也许你有解决问题的天赋,或者有让你与众不同的创造性思维。)”提到“花时间思考自己的过人之处,比如解决问题的天赋、创造力”。G选项“One way to appreciate your unique journey is to acknowledge your strengths and talents.( 欣赏自己独特旅程的一个方法是承认自己的长处和才能。)”
根据前文“Another aspect of embracing your unique path is understanding that success looks different for everyone. Society often sets certain standards and expectations, but it’s important to remember that your journey is your own. Make goals and steps that match what you believe in, instead of trying to fit what others expect.( 拥抱自己独特道路的另一个方面是理解每个人的成功都是不同的。社会通常会设定一定的标准和期望,但重要的是要记住,你的旅程是你自己的。制定符合自己信念的目标和步骤,而不是试图满足别人的期望。)”强调“成功的定义因人而异,要制定符合自己信念的目标,而非迎合他人期待”。B选项“This allows you to define your own version of success.( 这让你可以定义自己对成功的定义。)”
根据前文“Comparing your progress with others’ can lead to feelings of self-doubt and depression.( 将自己的进步与他人比较会导致自我怀疑和抑郁。)” F选项“Instead, focus on your own progress and celebrate the small victories along the way.( 相反,关注自己的进步,庆祝一路上的小胜利。)”

It was a good day in every possible way. Standing on the cold sand on a Sunday morning, I saw the sun flash off powerful surf as it curved into whitewater that rushed up the beach. The members of my winter swimming club were pulling on swimming suits, swimming caps and goggles (护目镜) as they assessed the challenging conditions.
After sizing up the ocean, most swimmers chose to stay in the shallows where they could still stand up, or headed to the protected rockpool to do a few laps. But I decided to swim out, along with one other swimmer.
To avoid the strong waves as they hit the shore, and to negotiate the partially hidden rocks, timing was everything. When a lull (平静时期) arrived, we ran and dived in, feeling the shock of the cold water. As I reached deeper water, I pulled on my swim fins (脚蹼) and goggles and let my breathing adjust to the cold.
I was about a hundred metres from shore when a large set appeared suddenly, broke and rushed towards me. I dived deep into dark green water and felt the wave’s power move through and over me. More waves came and I dived again. After the third dive, I came up and felt something was wrong.
White noise rushed into my left ear. I began to feel weak. A kind of pain moved down the right side of my neck. My desire to swim further out disappeared. I didn’t know what had happened but it was time to get out of the water. Wave after wave hit me, pushing me, pulling me back out to sea. I didn’t have much say about where I went.
Other members of the swimming club saw that I was close to shore and turned back towards the clubhouse. I wanted to call out for help but I couldn’t. They were a few metres away but I couldn’t make a sound. Every inch of me was devoted to trying to regain my senses.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

After I recovered, I was determined to find the stranger and thank him sincerely.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
I reached the sand, but couldn’t stand up and then I lost my senses. When I faintly opened my eyes, I found myself lying on a warm blanket, with a cup of hot water beside me. A stranger in a blue jacket was sitting nearby, checking my body gently. “You’re awake!” he said with a relieved smile. He told me he’d seen me fall down and carried me to a sheltered spot, then fetched water and a blanket from his car. My club members, who’d noticed my absence later, had also gathered around, looking worried. When he saw I was finally safe and being looked after, he left.
After I recovered, I was determined to find the stranger and thank him sincerely. Through some effort, I managed to track him down. Grateful for his selfless act, I offered him a thank-you card and $500 as a sign of my appreciation. However, he firmly refused the money, saying that helping others in need was just a natural thing for him. His words left a deep impression on me, reminding me that there are still many kind-hearted people in the world who act out of pure goodness rather than for personal gain.

A. It has reduced the need for identity exploration.
B. It has removed risky behaviours among teenagers.
C. It has made adolescence shorter and less challenging.
D. It has shifted the focus of rebellion to internal aspects.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?

D To educate Internet users about new technologies.

This unlikely shift ____36____ (begin) in the spring of 2020. Back then, while ____37____ (walk) in the park, park worker Rong Canzhong noticed a smart great tit carrying dry grass into a lamppost.
