It is one of the world’s coldest places in winter. It is difficult for most animals to live there. But a few animals have their ways of living in a very, very cold world. Arctic foxes are one of those animals. Arctic foxes have thick white fur (毛皮) in the winter months. The thick fur helps them to stand the cold in winter. Their long tails (尾巴) are very thick. When Arctic foxes sleep, they will put their tails around their bodies to stay warm. And their white fur makes it difficult for other animals to find them in the snow world. There’s an interesting fact that Arctic foxes’ fur is not always white. When the weather gets warmer Arctic foxes have less need to stay warm and keep away from dangers than they do in winter. So, in the summer their thick white fur gets thinner and becomes brown. To get through the winter months Arctic foxes need to eat a lot of food. They have very sensitive (灵敏的) ears and noses. These help them to find small animals under the snow easily. However, things are terrible sometimes. If Arctic foxes can’t find enough food or the weather is very terrible, they can slow down their metabolism (新陈代谢) and stay in their snow homes for at least two weeks. 根据语篇内容,回答问题。 1.What’s the weather like in Arctic in winter? 2.What helps Arctic foxes to stay warm and keep away from dangers in winter? 3.Is Arctic foxes’ fur always white? 4.What helps Arctic foxes a lot in finding enough food in the winter months? 5.How long will Arctic foxes stay in their snow homes? 【答案】1.It’s very cold. 2.Their thick white fur. 3.No, it isn’t. 4.Their sensitive ears and noses. 5.For at least two weeks. 1.根据“It is one of the world’s coldest places in winter.”可知,北极冬天非常寒冷。故填It’s very cold. 2.根据“The thick fur helps them to stand the cold in winter...And their white fur makes it difficult for other animals to find them...”可知,北极狐的厚白毛皮帮助它们在冬天御寒和隐藏。故填Their thick white fur. 3.根据“Arctic foxes’ fur is not always white...in the summer their thick white fur gets thinner and becomes brown.”可知,北极狐的毛皮并非总是白色。故填No, it isn’t. 4.根据“They have very sensitive ears and noses. Sanjiangyuan, meaning “the source of three rivers”, is an area in Northwest China’s Qinghai Province and an important part of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (青藏高原). It is home to the headwaters of China’s three major rivers: the Yellow River, Yangtze River and Lancang River. During the past 20 years, Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve has seen great changes and progress. Tsewen Dorje, an environmental protection worker in Qinghai Province, said that because of illegal mining (非法采矿) in the 1990s, a large part of the land was desertified (沙化). The government, social organizations and local people have all acted to solve this problem. The government is improving the ecological protection management system (生态保护管理制度) and Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve has become part of Sanjiangyuan National Park and is under strict protection. The organization that Tsewen Dorje works for also organizes nature education events. Taking teenagers to mountains and lakes, it gets younger generations to take an interest in environmental protection. Sanjiangyuan is changing for the better. “It’s now a good home for wild animals,” said Tsewen Dorje. “The wild animal population is rising. The number of Xizangan antelopes has increased to over 70,000.” But Sanjiangyuan still faces difficulties. “The biggest challenge now is the possible loss of grassland and melting frozen soil (冻土) caused by global warming,” said Tsewen Dorje. He also said, “I hope more people can take action to protect Sanjiangyuan and make it even better.” 根据短文内容,回答问题。(每题答案不超过13个词) 1.What are the three major rivers of Sanjiangyuan? 2.What problem did the land in Sanjiangyuan face in the 1990s? 3.How does the government act to deal with the environmental problem? 4.Why did the writer mention Xizangan antelopes in Paragraph 6? 5.What is Tsewen Dorje’s hope? 【答案】1.The Yellow River, Yangtze River and Lancang River. 2.A large part of the land was desertified. 3.By improving the ecological protection management system. 4.To show Sanjiangyuan is changing for the better. 5.More people can take action to protect Sanjiangyuan and make it even better. 【导语】本文主要介绍了三江源的地理位置、重要性、过去的问题、政府及各方采取的措施、目前的变化、面临的困难以及相关人员对三江源的期望。 1.根据“It is home to the headwaters of China’s three major rivers: the Yellow River, Yangtze River and Lancang River.”可知,三江源是中国三大河流黄河、长江和澜沧江的发源地。故填The Yellow River, Yangtze River and Lancang River. 2.根据“Tsewen Dorje, an environmental protection worker in Qinghai Province, said that because of illegal mining (非法采矿) in the 1990s, a large part of the land was desertified (沙化).”可知,20世纪90年代,三江源的土地面临大面积沙化的问题。故填A large part of the land was desertified. 3.根据“The government is improving the ecological protection management system (生态保护管理制度) and Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve has become part of Sanjiangyuan National Park and is under strict protection.”可知,政府通过完善生态保护管理制度来应对环境问题。故填By improving the ecological protection management system. 4.根据“Sanjiangyuan is changing for the better. ‘It’s now a good home for wild animals,’ said Tsewen Dorje. ‘The wild animal population is rising. They stay in the classroom and listen to teachers. This is one way of learning. But is it the only way? Of course not. Another way is self-teaching. For example, when you can’t remember something while doing homework, what will you do? You can turn to your book to find the answer. How to teach yourself? First, read. Read things that interest you. Second, you need to ask yourself questions. A clever student is often good at asking questions. Third, answer the questions yourself—by studying hard, reading books, or sometimes asking others. These ways of self-teaching are useful. If you keep doing them, you’ll surely make progress in your studies. 1.Where do students often learn their lessons? 2.What can you do if you can’t remember something when doing homework? 3.What is a clever student usually good at? 4.How many ways of self-teaching are mentioned? 5.What do you think of the ways of self-teaching? 【答案】1.In the classroom. 2.Turn to your book to find the answer. 3.Asking questions. 4.Three/3. 5.They are useful. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了学生除了在课堂上学习外,还可以通过自学的方式提升学习效果,并列举了三种自学方法。 1.根据“Students usually learn lessons in class. I thought it would be a great way to add a personal touch to my room. First, I gathered all the materials I needed, including some wooden sticks, glue, scissors, and colorful crayons. I started by cutting the wooden sticks into the right lengths to form the frame. However, it wasn’t as easy as I thought. The sticks kept splitting when I cut them. I was a bit impatient, but I didn’t give up. I adjusted (调整) the way I held the scissors and tried again. Finally, I got all the pieces cut. Next, I glued the sticks together to form the frame. While waiting for the glue to dry, I used the crayons to draw some cute patterns on the frame. When I picked up the frame, the corners came apart because the glue wasn’t strong enough. I had to re-glue them and hold them tightly for a while. After several attempts (尝试), my DIY photo frame was finally done. I put a beautiful photo of my family inside. Looking at the finished frame, I felt a great sense of success. This hands-on experience taught me that making something with my own hands can be full of challenges, but the joy of creating is truly worth it. 1.What problem did the writer meet when cutting the wooden sticks for the photo frame? 2.Why did the writer re-glue the corners? 3.How did the writer feel after finishing the DIY photo frame? 【答案】1.The sticks kept splitting. 2.Because the corners came apart./Because the glue wasn’t strong enough. 3.(The writer felt) a great sense of success./Successful./Proud. 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,作者详细记录了自己动手制作一个DIY相框的过程,包括遇到的困难、解决的方法以及完成后的成就感。 1.根据“The sticks kept splitting when I cut them.”可知,作者在切割相框时遇到的问题是木棒容易裂开。故填The sticks kept splitting. 2.根据“When I picked up the frame, the corners came apart because the glue wasn’t strong enough. Standing on the coast of the Arctic Ocean, it has to brave both the Arctic’s cold weather and wild animals like polar bears. Most of the area’s polar bears live a few miles away from Ryrkaypiy. Only a few bears come near to the village now and then. But last winter, over 50 polar bears went to Ryrkaypiy in search of food. The villagers were told to stay indoors to avoid danger. Now, polar bears come to the village more often and in larger numbers than ever. Although polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their life on the sea ice. The ice gives them a place where they can have a rest and catch fish. But as the temperature rises because of global warming, the bears have started to find their home disappearing. Polar bears normally go onto dry land in summer and return to the ice when the ocean freezes again in autumn. But over the past few years, the ocean has frozen later and later, and the ice area has become smaller and smaller. Unable to live on the ice, hungry polar bears have to look for food on land, including villages like Ryrkaypiy. In some countries, polar bears are considered as endangered animals. If the earth becomes so warm that there is no longer enough ice for the bears to live on, there will probably be no polar bears. Immediate action must be taken to help polar bears. 根据短文内容,回答问题。(每题答案不超过8个词) 1.Why did polar bears go to Ryrkaypiy last winter? 2.What can polar bears do on the sea ice? 3.When do polar bears normally go onto dry land? 4.What will probably happen if there is not enough ice? 5.What’s the purpose (目的) of the passage? 【答案】1.In search of food. 2.They can have a rest and catch fish. 3.In summer. 4.There will probably be no polar bears./ They will probably disappear. 5.To call for action to help polar bears./ To encourage people to help polar bears. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了由于全球变暖导致海冰减少,北极熊被迫前往人类村庄觅食的生存危机,并呼吁采取行动保护北极熊。 1.根据“over 50 polar bears went to Ryrkaypiy in search of food”可知,北极熊去村庄是为了寻找食物。故填In search of food. 2.根据“The ice gives them a place where they can have a rest and catch fish”可知,海冰为北极熊提供了休息和捕鱼的地方。故填They can have a rest and catch fish. 3.根据“Polar bears normally go onto dry land in summer”可知,北极熊通常在夏季登上陆地。故填In summer. 4.根据“If the earth becomes so warm that there is no longer enough ice for the bears to live on, there will probably be no polar bears”可知,如果没有足够的冰,北极熊可能会灭绝。故填There will probably be no polar bears./ They will probably disappear. 5.根据文章最后一段“Immediate action must be taken to help polar bears”以及全文内容可知,本文的目的是呼吁采取行动帮助北极熊。故填To call for action to help polar bears./ To encourage people to help polar bears. In many places the weather changes during the year. These changes are all called seasons. In the north and south there are four seasons in a year. At the North and South Pole, there are only two seasons. In tropical (热带) places near the Earth’s equator (赤道), there are two seasons: a “wet” season and a “dry” season. Each season brings changes. They are important for plants and animals that live in different parts of the world. Spring starts when the day and night are the same length. The weather gets warmer and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their babies in spring. Summer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on June 21 or 22. Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruit grows faster on trees and plants. Young animals grow bigger and stronger. Autumn starts when the day and night are the same length again. During autumn, the leaves change color and fall from the trees. Some animals collect food before winter comes. Winter begins on the shortest day of the year. In the north this is on December 21 or 22. The weather is colder and in some places, there is lots of snow. Plants and trees stop growing. Some animals, like bats and bears, find places to hide and sleep. This is called hibernation (冬眠). 1.How many seasons are there at the North Pole? 2.Which seasons start when the day and night are the same length? 3.When does winter start in the north? 4.Which season do you like best? And there are six of them in winter. They are beginning of winter, light snow, heavy snow, winter solstice (冬至) , lesser cold (小寒) and greater cold. Beginning of winter usually falls on November 7th or 8th. After beginning of winter, most parts of the country can start to expect cold weather. On this day, after a year of hard work, people are happy to have a rest and spend time with family. The northern China celebrates beginning of winter as the “Small Spring Festival”. People usually have dumplings and mutton soup on that day. Light snow usually falls on November 22nd or 23rd and heavy snow usually falls on December 7th or 8th. When winter solstice comes, it brings the shortest days and the longest nights of the year. Many places around the country can expect the coldest weather yet. People often start counting “nine cold periods” starting from winter solstice. Every cold period has nine days. People believe that after 81 cold days, spring will come. Greater cold comes after lesser cold. The field is covered with snow. And all the people in China are ready to welcome the Spring Festival after it. Of course, a new round of solar terms will start. Maybe a huge sea of golden sand, where the wind blows and nothing grows. But guess what? Recently, something amazing has happened in the Taklimakan Desert. It has a new colour—pink—100,000 rose plants are blooming (开花) there, turning the “golden giant” into a beautiful painting. Last November, in Yutian County, Xinjiang, desert workers finished a big job. They planted 100,000 roses along the desert’s edge. These roses are like green scarves around the desert. It’s a new wonder of China’s sand control work. Planting roses shows how much the workers care about the desert. “People usually think of roses as flowers in vases, but our roses are protectors of the sand hills!” said Maitusun Yibulayimu, a villager from Yutian County. He’s right—these roses are beautiful, and their strong roots also hold the sand in place, stopping it from blowing away. For over ten years, people in Qiemo County, another place in Xinjiang that sits along the desert’s edge, have also been working hard. They have built 93,700 mu (about 8,700 football fields) of grassgrids (草方格) in the desert. Planting roses along the desert’s edge is not the end. The real goal is to stop the sand from spreading (蔓延) forever. Once it was “sand coming, people leaving. Now it’s green coming, sand leaving” —and soon, people and sand will live together happily. Each generation works to build a “Green Great Wall”. These blooming roses show that with hard work, even the desert can become a place of life. 1.How many roses did workers plant in the Taklimakan Desert? 2.What do the roses look like around the desert? 3.Do the roses only make the desert beautiful? 4.How did people in Qiemo County work to stop the desert from spreading? 5.What do you think will happen to the desert in the future? 【答案】1.They planted 100,000 roses. 2.They are like green scarves around the desert. 3.No, they don’t. They are beautiful and their strong roots also hold the sand in place, stopping it from blowing away. 4.They have built 93,700 mu of grassgrids in the desert. 5.People and sand will live together happily. (答案不唯一,合理即可) 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,新疆于田县和且末县的人们通过种植10万株玫瑰、建造草方格等治沙行动,让塔克拉玛干沙漠焕发绿意,助力实现人与沙漠和谐共处的目标。   1.根据“They planted 100,000 roses along the desert’s edge.”可知,工作人员在塔克拉玛干沙漠种植了10万株玫瑰。故填They planted 100,000 roses. 2.根据“These roses are like green scarves around the desert.”可知,沙漠周围的玫瑰像绿色的围巾。故填They are like green scarves around the desert. 3.根据“He’s right—these roses are beautiful, and their strong roots also hold the sand in place, stopping it from blowing away.”可知,玫瑰不仅让沙漠变美,还能固沙防沙。故填No, they don’t. Pictures are falling off the wall. Lights are waving. The bed is shaking. Everything is moving. What’s going on? It’s an earthquake. Earthquakes are horrible disasters (灾难) and some of them are destructive (毁灭性的). The top layer of the Earth is made up of huge pieces of rock. They move past each other all the time along fault lines (裂纹线). But sometimes two pieces get stuck together. When they finally move away from each other, they move suddenly. And this makes the land above them shake. This is the most common cause of earthquakes. During a small earthquake, you will feel a little shaking. But during a strong one, you will be thrown about. A strong earthquake is very horrible. Cracks will appear on the ground and windows and doors will break. Buildings will even fall down. So watch out! If an earthquake happens at sea, it can make big waves called “tsunamis” (海啸). When these waves reach land, they can destroy villages. Earthquakes are measured (测量) on a scale (等级) of 0—9. It is called the Richter scale. A size 9 earthquake is the strongest and most dangerous. Since 1900, more than two million people have died in earthquakes. In 1976, a size 7.8 earthquake hit Tangshan, China. It killed more than 240,000 people. Many earthquakes happened in China, so it is important for us to know what to do when an earthquake hits. Here are some tips on how to stay safe in an earthquake. Indoors ◆Hide under a desk or bed. Stay away from windows and anything that could fall on you. ◆Do not get into a lift during an earthquake! When an earthquake has ended, stay under the desk until it is really safe to get up. ◆Open a window and get out of the building quickly if the gas line in your house is broken. Outdoors ◆Move away from buildings and street lights. ◆Do not run outside if you are in a shop and far from the door. ◆Make sure you wear shoes after an earthquake. There may be broken glass on the ground. 每题答案不超过10个词。 1.What will happen when an earthquake happens at sea? 2.How are earthquakes measured? 3.We don’t need to wear shoes after an earthquake, do we? 4.Why should we move away from buildings and street lights when an earthquake happens? 5.According to the passage, what is the common cause of an earthquake? 【答案】1.It can make big waves called “tsunamis”. 2.Earthquakes are measured on a scale of 0—9. 3.Yes, we do. 4.To avoid being injured by falling objects. 5.The huge pieces of rock suddenly moving apart. 【导语】本文介绍了地震的成因、危害等级、历史案例及安全防护措施。 1.根据“If an earthquake happens at sea, it can make big waves called ‘tsunamis’ (海啸).”可知,当地震发生在海上时,会引发海啸。故填It can make big waves called “tsunamis”. 2.根据“Earthquakes are measured on a scale of 0—9. And this makes the land above them shake.”可知,地震主因是地壳板块突然移动,故填The huge pieces of rock suddenly moving apart. 能力综合实践5篇 Last week was Road Safety Week at my school. All the students attended a talk on road safety which was given by a police officer, Mr. Deng. This is what he said. “Boys and girls, I believe that most of you are careful and are willing to follow traffic rules. But people are different. Some of them may be very different or even dangerous. So there is some knowledge for you to keep safe on the road. Most traffic accidents happen because the car drivers are careless. Usually, a common reason for these accidents is: some people drive too fast. This means that when they have to stop suddenly, they cannot stop quickly enough, so they may hit other people or other things, like cars, buses, trees, walls, and so on. You need to remember this when you are crossing the street or walking along the sidewalks. Car accidents may also happen because of people’s selfish actions. For example, sometimes some people may walk out into the street without looking, and some bicycle riders may change directions suddenly without thinking about other road users. Remember: When you walk, you should always look in both directions before stepping into the street. Among all the subjects I have at school, my favorite one is the art class. We have a great teacher named Mrs. Hilbert. She is a wonderful artist. I love to watch her draw and paint. She usually teaches us how to choose the right colors for our paintings. And she always encourages us to be more creative while drawing or painting. What’s more, she plays good music while we draw and paint. This makes our art class more fun and relaxing. We draw or paint in almost every art class. And we also look at pictures of other great artists. It is interesting to do this, because it helps me to think of things that I want to paint or draw. We often feel very happy for being able to paint interesting pictures. We will have an art show in November this year. Our works will be in one of the libraries in our town. We are inviting people from the community (社区) to our art show. Our parents will go with us. I am working on three paintings now. And I hope I can show one of them in the show. Magpies are as important a part of Beijing as the Palace Museum and Beijing Duck. But how much do you know about this type of bird? In the Chinese culture, magpies are called xique, which means “the bird of happiness”. People believe that seeing magpies can bring them good luck. The birds even have a special job in the Chinese story of the Qixi Festival. It’s said that magpies would build the bridge (桥) in the sky for Niulang and Zhinu so that they could get together once a year. As a result, magpies stand for (代表) true love too. Magpies have black and white feathers with light blue tails. With their special “zhazhazha” sounds from early morning till night, it is not difficult for birdwatchers(观鸟者) to notice them. 阅读并回答问题。 When there is a fire, it can be very dangerous for people. 阅读回答问题,每题答案不超过8个单词。 Hands-on Fun: Making a DIY Photo Frame Last weekend, I decided to make a DIY photo frame (框). 进阶拓展训练5篇 Ryrkaypiy, a village with about 700 people, is located in the northeast of Russia. What do you like to do in this season? Write 30 words or more. In China, there are 24 solar terms (节气) in a year. Answer the following questions according to the passage. 1.How many solar terms are there in winter? 2.Which part of China celebrates beginning of winter as the “Small Spring Festival”? 3.What does “it” in the third paragraph refer to? 4.When does heavy snow usually fall? 5.Why do people often count “nine cold periods”? 阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题 When you think of a desert, what comes to your mind first? When you ride, you should watch around to make sure there aren’t any cars, trucks, buses or people coming, and you should show others with your hand that you will turn left or turn right, left hand for left direction, right hand for right direction. You should not turn until the street is clear. The rules of the road are very simple. If we learn them and obey them, we will not have accidents anymore. Thanks for your listening.” 1.Are car accidents caused only by drivers? 2.What should you do if you are walking on the road? 3.What or who usually leads to traffic accidents? 4.If your friend breaks the traffic rule, will you remind him or her? Do you want your friends to be different from you or be similar to you? Anna and Mia have been best friends since third grade. Now, they both study at No.1 Middle School. At first glance (乍一看), they seem like complete opposites. Anna is outgoing and loves talking to everyone, while Mia is shy and prefers quiet places. Anna enjoys playing basketball and runs faster than most students in her class. Mia, however, loves reading and writes better stories than Anna. Despite (尽管) their differences, they have a strong friendship. Anna helps Mia become more confident in social situations. Once, Mia was afraid to join the school play, but Anna encouraged her to try. “You’re a great storyteller,” Anna said. “You’ll be amazing on stage.” With Anna’s support, Mia got a small role and did well. In return, Mia helps Anna with her studies. Anna sometimes finds math difficult, but Mia explains problems clearly. “Your way of explaining is as good as the teacher’s,” Anna jokes. They study together every weekend and often get good grades. Anna and Mia also learn from each other’s hobbies. Anna taught Mia to play basketball, and Mia taught Anna to draw. “I never thought drawing could be fun,” Anna said. From Mrs. Hilbert, I know that art class is more than just a break from our heavy studies. Art is a good way to communicate (交流) without words. I’m excited for what I have learnt in my junior high. 1.Which is Anna’s favorite class at school? 2.What’s the name of Anna’s art teacher? 3.How does Anna’s art teacher teach them? (写出一点即可) 4.Where will they have an art show? 5.What do you think of the art teacher? Why do you think so? 阅读短文,然后根据内容回答问题。 We each have a memory, so we can remember things after a long time. Some people have very good memories and they can easily learn new things by heart, but some people can only remember things when they say or do them again and again. A good memory helps one learn a language well. Everybody learns his own language when he is a small child. He hears the sounds, remembers them and then he learns to speak. Some children are living with their parents in foreign countries. They can learn two languages as easily as one because they hear, remember and speak two languages every day. In school it is not so easy to learn a foreign language because the students have very little time for it, and they are busy with other subjects, too. Our memories can get better and better if we exercise our brains more often. Do you want to learn a foreign language well? If so, you must practise listening and speaking a lot. 1.Why can we remember things after a long time? 2.What can a man with a good memory do easily? 3.How can a child learn the languages if he or she hears, remembers and speaks them every day? 4.What else would you like to do to learn a foreign language well? In the Chinese culture, magpies are called xique, which means “the bird of happiness”. People believe that seeing magpies can bring them good luck. The birds even have a special job in the Chinese story of the Qixi Festival. It’s said that magpies would build the bridge (桥) in the sky for Niulang and Zhinu so that they could get together once a year. As a result, magpies stand for (代表) true love too. Magpies have black and white feathers with light blue tails. With their special “zhazhazha” sounds from early morning till night, it is not difficult for birdwatchers(观鸟者) to notice them. You can always see them chatting (聊天) on the roof (屋顶) or in the branches. Magpies have some very interesting living habits. They always live around humans. In winter, many magpies turn to a more plant-rich diet(饮食). Their diet includes about 60% vegetables. Sometimes they may look for food on the ground but not eat it right now. Instead, they will save the food for the future. Even more surprisingly, they stay around the dead birds and make sad sounds. It is just like they are holding a funeral (葬礼). All these unbelievable things lead some people to believe that magpies may be the cleverest of all birds. Well, Beijing’s noisiest bird is also one of its smartest ones. Maybe these little birds can really bring a little luck too. 1.What does the magpie’s Chinese name mean according to the article? 2.What do magpies look like? 3.What do magpies mainly live on in winter? 4.What do magpies do for their dead friends? 5.Do you like magpies?
