B If you look around your city, you might spot girls wearing hanfu in subways or people wearing T-shirts with Chinese characters on the streets. A new trend is taking hold in China — guochao, or “China chic” The term characterizes the rise of China’s native fashion trends. It has expanded the concept of “Made in China”, which has been recognized as the representation of Chinese culture and aesthetics (美学) offered by homegrown Chinese brands. China-chic came into the spotlight in 2018. Before that, big-name foreign companies, such as NIKE, ADIDAS and PUMA, dominated the world market. But that year, Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning changed things up. During the 2018 New York Fashion Week, Li-Ning introduced its Taoism-inspired Wu Dao collection. The collection not only had a trendy look, but also included elements of traditional Chinese culture. It immediately grabbed attention at home and abroad. As a result, the company recorded 20 percent profit growth in 2018, marking the first time the brand’s revenue had hit the 10-billion-yuan mark since its founding. The trend to embrace domestic brands has since spread rapidly to various sectors and products, from food and drinks to clothing, mobile phones and electric vehicles. For example, White Rabbit, whose sweet candy brings back childhood memories for many, launched its perfume and lip balm. “We want White Rabbit to be a brand that young people want to share,” said Shen Qinfeng, the company’s marketing manager. “Now, the guochao trend is moving to the next stage, where its success will rely. First and foremost, on gaining cultural confidence rather than Western recognition.” according to Kerra Zhou, founder of brand strategy consultancy Kerrisma. No matter how the guochao trend develops, there’s one thing that won’t change: Behind the craze is people’s positive attitude toward the country’s development and their recognition of growing confidence in national culture, added Zhou. 4. What’s the function of Paragraph 1? A. To introduce a new trend in China. B. To highlight the popularity of guochao. C. To describe a common scene on the street. D. To show Chinese brands beat foreign companies. 5. Which of the following statements about guochao is correct? A. Li-Ning stimulated the development of guochao. B. Guochao is a new trend popular throughout the world. C. Guochao refers to people’s preference for ancient culture. D. It’s before 2018 that guochao had received great attention. 6. Why did Li-Ning get so much attention during the 2018 New York Fashion Week? A. It took the lead in the similar brands. B It adopted Western design in its sportswear. C. Its revenue hit the 10-billion-yuan mark that year. D. Its products followed the trend and reflected Chinese elements. 7. What may Kerra Zhou agree with? A. Chinese is still following the western trend. B. Guochao’s success relies on western recognition. C. National pride arouses the passion for guochao. D. Cultural awareness is the key to winning market share. C Many teachers believe frequent quizzes (小测验) help students better grasp classroom material. Crede, an associate professor of psychology, was skeptical that something as simple as a quiz could positively affect students’ academic performance. He decided to dig deeper and conduct an analytic study of existing research to see if there was any proof to the idea. What he discovered truly surprised him. Crede analyzed data from previously published studies that examined 52 classes with almost 8,000 students, primarily college-level courses, to determine if frequent quizzes improved the students’ academic performance. Laboratory settings were kept out of the study because Crede wanted to observe whether similar studies from labs would apply to general classrooms. Crede discovered that when students are quizzed over class material at least once a week, they tend to perform better on midterm and final exams compared to students who did not take quizzes. He also found that students who took frequent quizzes were less likely to fail the class, especially if they were struggling with the course content. Students who struggle the most in a class seem to benefit the greatest from frequent quizzes. The other surprising thing was how much quizzes helped reduce failure rates in classes. The chances of passing a class went through the roof where instructors used this. In addition to quiz frequency, another factor that seemed to positively affect students’ performance was immediate feedback from instructors. Also, quizzes that required students to answer with written responses proved more beneficial to their understanding of class material compared to multiple-choice questions. Asking teachers to grade written quizzes daily or weekly may discourage some from carrying them out in their classes. Instead, it is recommended that instructors give online quizzes that can be automatically graded by a course management system. Quiz attributes (属性) proved insignificant in the study, including whether the tests were pop quizzes or planned, or if they were online or on paper. 8. What did Crede do to ensure his study’s accuracy? A. He focused on what happened in classrooms. B. He researched as many students as he could. C. He made laboratory settings as real as possible. D. He gave easy quizzes to make every student do well. 9. What does the underlined words “went through the roof” mean in paragraph 3? A. rose B. appeared C. faded D. lost 10. What did Crede discover in his study? A. Frequent quizzes could remove students’ failure in classes. B. Instructors’ feedback was more important than frequent quizzes. C. Frequent quizzes were especially useful to the struggling students. D. Multiple-choice questions shouldn’t be included in frequent quizzes. 11. What may be a disadvantage of frequent quizzes for teachers? A. Accessing the Internet less frequently. B. Having too many exam papers to mark. C. Being unable to get appropriate test materials. D. Finding it hard to choose the right type of quiz. D Now, artificial intelligence (AI) is coming for the most attractive and exciting jobs. Stars may worry that AI is stealing their work and giving less talented performers the skills to take away their audience. In fact, the famous individuals complaining the most loudly about the new technology are the ones who stand to benefit the most. Far from weakening star power, AI will make the biggest celebrities bigger than ever by allowing them to be in all markets, in all types of media, at all times. This isn’t the first time that technology has changed the rules of the fame game. People started talking about stars in the 18th century when the widespread access to reading materials made it possible to be truly famous within your lifetime. Film and radio originally seemed like a threat to stars, who worried their live performances would be devalued. In fact, those technologies started the era of the superstar, a term that caught on in the 1920s. A similar worry greeted the invention of television. But again, the new tech made the famous even more so, bringing them into every living room. As AI-generated content floods into the entertainment business, artists and entertainment professionals are worrying once more that their fame will be reduced — and again, the outcome is likely to be the opposite. These opportunities come with conditions attached. Artists are right to worry about copyright, which must be protected if AI is not to become a legalised form of piracy. Until these copyright concerns are addressed, AI will be a legal Wild West. The bigger question is how the age of the all-around superstar will appeal to audiences. The risk is boredom. AI is brilliant at remixing and repeating old material but less good at creating exciting content that, for now, remains a human specialty. Yet the entertainment market is highly self-correcting. Audiences have the power to turn a hot hit into a has-been one in an instant, as stars are all too aware. While AI-powered entertainment grows, consumers still seem to enjoy human drama. Sport, perhaps the most AI-proof, real-life event there is, has seen its value to media companies rise in recent years. 12. What is the primary concern of stars in paragraph 1? A. The inability to master AI. B. The low level of their acting skills. C. The decline in their popularity. D. The improvement of audience’s taste. 13. Why does the author mention “film, radio and television”? A. To show the difficulties facing the stars then. B. To prove the techno-panic is common in history. C. To confirm AI will surely come into every family. D. To predict the trend of the technological development. 14. How can superstars attract audience according to the text? A. By avoiding the use of AI. B. By cooperating with directors. C. By learning more advanced technologies. D. By improving content creation. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. The era of AI is around the corner. B. AI creates a brand-new entertainment industry. C. AI makes stars worried and audience demanding. D. AI is more of a helper than an imagined threat to stars. In a world surrounded by bad news, it may feel like an unhappy place sometimes. ____16____ If you make even one person smile today, you can help make this world a better place. The doctors talked about the potential side effects of the drugs that might occur over the next two years of treatment. When our parents told our sister she had cancer, her biggest concern was losing her hair. “Will all my hair really fall out? Will people make fun of me?” she asked, her voice filled with worry. “Don’t worry,” I later told her in secret. “When you lose your hair, I’ll shave mine with a razor (剃刀) and we’ll both be bald (秃头的). We’ ll walk down the street proudly with our bald heads held high. We’ll swim, go to parks and play at the beach with our bald heads.” “Promise?” she asked. “Promise,” I replied, thinking it was a small sacrifice (牺牲) as long as it could cheer her and help her recover. The days and weeks of treatment began to affect her little body. As the doctors had warned, she began to lose her hair. At first, I found some on her clothes and towels. A short time later, I found her hair on the backs of the sofas and chairs she’d been on. Before long, there were masses of hair on her pillow every morning as she awoke from her restless sleep. A few days later, she was finally completely bald. Her head was very smooth and soft as I held her. It reminded me of that wonderful time when I held her in my arms and was amazed at how lucky I was to have such a beautiful and healthy baby sister. Her bald head was beautiful, but it also showed the signs of her battle with cancer. One afternoon at home, I thought it was time to shave my head. However, it was then that I began seriously worrying about something. How ugly would I become when I was bald? Would my parents — who always encouraged us to maintain a certain image — scold (责备) me for having my head shaved? Would people, especially my classmates, make fun of me? I was looking at myself in the mirror when my sister approached. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “It’s beautiful. A new trend is taking hold in China — guochao, or “China chic” The term characterizes the rise of China’s native fashion trends. It has expanded the concept of “Made in China” which has been recognized as the representation of Chinese culture and aesthetics (美学) offered by homegrown Chinese brands. 4. 【答案】8. A 9. A 10. C 11. B 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了,一位心理学教授研究发现经常进行小测验会对学生成绩有积极的影响,特别是成绩较差的学生。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。由第二段中的“Laboratory settings were kept out of the study because Crede wanted to observe whether similar studies from labs would apply to general classrooms.”(实验室环境被排除在研究之外,因为Crede希望观察实验室的类似研究是否适用于普通教室。),可知为确保实验的准确性,Crede排除了实验室环境下的研究,而是在普通教室里研究,可知他关注的是教室里发生的事情。故选A项。 【9题详解】 短语猜测题。由第三段中的“The other surprising thing was how much quizzes helped reduce failure rates in classes. ”(另一件令人惊讶的事情是,小测验有助于降低课堂上的失败率。),可知小测验有助于降低课堂上的失败率,提高学习效率和成绩,可得出课程的及格率会上升,went through the roof 在此表示“增长”。故选A项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。由第三段中的“He also found that students who took frequent quizzes were less likely to fail the class, especially if they were struggling with the course content. Students who struggle the most in a class seem to benefit the greatest from frequent quizzes.”(他还发现,经常参加小测验的学生不太可能不及格,尤其是当他们在课程内容上遇到困难时。在课堂上学习有困难的学生似乎从频繁的测验中受益最大。),可知频繁的小测验让学习有困难的学生受益。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。由最后一段中的“Asking teachers to grade written quizzes daily or weekly may discourage some from carrying them out in their classes.”(要求老师每天或每周给书面测验打分可能会阻碍一些人在课堂上实施这些做法。),可知要求老师每天或每周给笔试打分,就会产生的大工作量,即有太多的试卷要批改,可能会阻碍一些老师在课堂上实施这些做法。故选B项。 D Now, artificial intelligence (AI) is coming for the most attractive and exciting jobs. 【答案】12 C 13. B 14. D 15. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要探讨了AI对明星和娱乐行业的影响,指出尽管明星们担心AI会威胁他们的地位,但实际上AI将使他们更加出名,因为它能让明星无处不在。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“Stars may worry that AI is stealing their work and giving less talented performers the skills to take away their audience. (明星们可能会担心,AI正在窃取他们的工作,并让那些才华稍逊的表演者获得技能,从而抢走他们的观众)”可知,明星们的主要担忧是受欢迎程度的下降。故选C项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“Film and radio originally seemed like a threat to stars, who worried their live performances would be devalued. In fact, those technologies started the era of the superstar, a term that caught on in the 1920s. A similar worry greeted the invention of television. But again, the new tech made the famous even more so, bringing them into every living room. 根据第四段中“AI is brilliant at remixing and repeating old material but less good at creating exciting content that, for now, remains a human specialty. (AI在重新混合和重复旧材料方面非常出色,但在创造令人兴奋的内容方面却不太擅长,而目前这仍然是人类的专长)”可知,超级明星可以通过提高内容创作来吸引观众。故选D项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“In fact, the famous individuals complaining the most loudly about the new technology are the ones who stand to benefit the most. Far from weakening star power, AI will make the biggest celebrities bigger than ever by allowing them to be in all markets, in all types of media, at all times. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I was looking at myself in the mirror when my sister approached. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “It’s beautiful. Her big, innocent eyes searched my face, filled with both curiosity and a hint of admiration. “Are you really going to do it?” she asked softly, her voice breaking the silence. I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of fear and determination. “Yes, I am,” I replied, forcing a smile. “She clapped her hands and squealed, “We’ll be twins!” The first few strokes felt strange, but with each pass of the razor, I felt lighter, as if I were shedding not just my hair, but also my fears and insecurities. “It’s beautiful. Please also help shave our heads,” our parents smiled. Their approval warmed my heart, and I could see the love in their eyes as they watched this moment unfold. As we stood in front of the mirror, I realized that our bald heads symbolized more than just a physical change; they represented our unity and strength in facing her battle against cancer. We were not just a family; we were warriors, ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead, side by side. 词汇激活 行为类 ①承担:take on/undertake ②意识到:realize/be aware of ③代表:represent/be on behalf of 情绪类 ①害怕:fear/scare ②感觉轻松:feel light/feel relaxed 【点睛】[高分句型1].
