The United States has a vast network of National Parks spread all around the country. Here are some National Parks for you.
Arches National Park, Utah
More than 2,000 natural stone arches make Arches National Park a special place in Utah. Travelers from around the world come to see brilliant sunsets that light up the sky each night. Hikers and rock climbers will love the endless options for exploring, while more low-key visitors are sure to love the camping.
Acadia, Maine
Super close to Bar Harbor, one of Maine's most beloved tiny towns, Acadia National Park tops travel guides for the Vacation State. Before making your way to Mt. Desert island, dine on the country's most famous fish and lake advantage of the opportunity to go whale watching on the Atlantic Ocean. When visiting Acadia, set aside some time to hike and go boating.
Mount Rainier, Washington
We couldn't leave the park with you slowly moving ice off the list. Washington's Mount Rainier National Park, found southeast of Seattle, has 25 of them (along with the famous volcano) as its attention-catching sight. The National Park says it's "the snowiest place on earth where snow is measured regularly." If snowcapped peaks aren't your thing, plan to visit the park when the weather is warmer.
Great Sand Dunes (沙丘), Colorado
You probably imagine the Rocky Mountains when you think about Colorado, but did you know that the Centennial state is also home to the United States' largest sand dunes? See them for yourself at Great Sand Dunes National Park, where you can go sand boarding or "fat biking". Though June temperatures are said to be some of Southern Colorado's best, a warm winter day can be an equally enjoyable time to see the dunes.

Yesterday we said goodbye to my grandfather. He was 96 years old and he was my last grandparent.
It has been a while since I saw my grandpa in person. I think he only met my youngest Lilly once. It kind of pains me to think that I deprived(剥夺)my children of the chance to know their only great-grandparent. But I didn’t want them to know or remember a very old man, incapable of getting down on his knees to play with them, and laughing with them because he can’t hear what they’re saying. That’s not the grandfather I know.
My grandfather never stopped. He was an early-adopter to have a laptop-type-device long before Apple was a houschold word and he was programming video games for grandkids to play before most people knew what programming was. He kept physically fit every day of his life. In his later years, he kept busy playing tennis, ballroom dancing, swimming, bicycling. In the end, he didn’t lose a battle to any disease. His body simply could not go on anymore.
I feel extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to know my grandfather. Intentional or not, he taught me many lessons. My grandfather taught me to waterski when I was 5 years old and he taught me how to surf about a decade after that. Whenever I thought it’s too late for me to study a language or get better at piano, he made it clear that it’s only my fear holding me back, not age.
These lessons make life meaningful to me. I prefer to think of them as lessons for living a positive life that leaves a positive impression on me. That is something I will strive to do. Thanks to my grandfather, I have a pretty good blueprint to follow. So I guess the best thing I can offer my children to feel connected to that man is the lessons I learned from him.
4. Why did the author seldom take kids to their disabled great-grandfather?
A. To promote the kids’ independence.
B. To keep the old man living a quiet life.
C. To prevent the kids from being frightened.
D. To avoid the kids having a bad impression of him.
5. How could the author’s grandfather keep fit?
A. By eating apples everyday. B. By playing with little kids.
C. By living a simple life. D. By keeping exercising.
6. What can we infer about the author’s grandfather from paragraph 4?
A. He was a surfing instructor. B. He was very encouraging.
C He did everything with an intention. D. He studied a new language in his old age.
7. What is the best title of the text?
A. Memories of My Grandfather B. Winning a Battle to Disease
C. Connecting the Generations D. Impression of My Childhood
C
Adjusting to senior high school wasn’t easy at first, but now I’m starting to love this new chapter of my life. The biggest change from junior high is the independence — we have more subjects, longer breaks between classes, and the freedom to choose clubs.
My daily schedule begins at 7: 20 a.m. with morning reading. We usually read English passages or Chinese poems aloud, which helps wake up my mind for the day. We have nine classes a day, covering subjects like math, physics, and English, plus optional courses (选修课). I chose “Digital Storytelling” as my optional course — it teaches us to make short videos, and last week we created a clip about our campus. The teacher there always says, “Creativity is more important than perfect skills,” which makes me less nervous about trying new things.
Breaks are my favorite part of the day. Unlike junior high, we have 15 minutes between classes. I often go to the cafeteria (食堂) to buy milk with my friend Lily, or we sit on the bench and talk about our lessons. At noon, the cafeteria gets really busy, but the food is much more varied than before — my favorite is the tomato and egg noodles.
After school, I stay for club activities twice a week. I joined the Science Club because I want to prepare for the school science fair next month. Last Tuesday, our group discussed ideas for a project about renewable energy, and we decided to build a small solar-powered model. It’s challenging, but working with teammates teaches me how to listen to different opinions. On other days, I go to the library to do homework. The library is quiet and bright, and I can always find reference books for my math assignments.
Of course, there are challenges too. The homework load is heavier, and some subjects like physics are much harder. Last week, I got a low score on my first physics test. I felt upset, but my physics teacher talked to me after class. She said, “It takes time to adapt — let’s make a study plan together.” Now I review my physics notes every evening, and it’s getting easier.
Senior high is like a big puzzle — you have to fit study, friends, and activities together. It’s busy, but every day brings something new. I’ve learned to manage my time better, and I’m excited to see what comes next.
8. What is the biggest change from junior high for the author?
A. More varied food in the cafeteria.
B. Greater independence in school life.
C. Longer time spent on homework.
D. Fewer subjects to study.
9. Why did the author choose “Digital Storytelling” as an optional course?
A. It helps improve physics skills.
B. It prepares for the science fair.
C. It teaches creative video-making.
D. It has no homework requirements.
10. What does the author do twice a week after school?
A. Has physics tutoring. B. Joins Science Club activities.
C. Works in the school library. D. Buys snacks with friends.
11. How did the author deal with the low physics score?
A. Gave up on the subject.
B. Asked friends for help.
C. Followed the teacher’s advice.
D. Changed to another optional course.
D
After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone (独立的) rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate (定位) a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room ahead of schedule and then need to scan a QR code (二维码) for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP.
12. What makes the shared gym room different from the common one?
A. Holding one person at a time. B. Standing in the living zone.
C. Offering open spaces. D. Having some advanced equipment.
13. What do people need to do to use the shared gym room?
A. Let down curtains for privacy.
B. Pay 100 yuan first.
C. Use a smartphone to book a room ahead of time.
D. Have a shower before exercise.
14. What does the underlined word “nascent” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Simple. B. Popular. C. Satisfying. D. New.
15. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To advertise a technology company. B. To introduce shared gym rooms.
C. To support the shared gym rooms. D. To point out the weaknesses of shared gym rooms.

“Why did she spill the beans (泄露秘密)?” I thought regretfully. I’ll always remember that day, when I was so surprised by all the strange looks everyone was giving me. Those thoughts will always stay with me. And I couldn’t believe I would lose the friendship of the person I trusted the most.
Five years back, Sally was the new kid in class. I don’t know what it was, but something unique about her drew me to her. She was the most friendly person I knew. We started as classmates, but after a few months, we were like best friends. So, I never expected her to hurt me in such a big way.
I don’t know what made me tell Sally about my personal life. She made the matter bigger than it was, adding her own spin (倾向性描述) on it and telling everyone at school. It was like someone had stabbed me in the back. After she gave away my secrets, everyone at school started laughing at me, looking at me and giggling (咯咯地笑) whenever I passed by. After this terrible situation, I changed schools. Sally called me many times, but I didn’t answer. My heart was broken.
I tried hard to heal from the scars she left on my heart. I started a new life. After five years, my life went back to the way it was, with new friends. But one day, I met Anna at the market. She was my classmate from 3rd grade. She told me that Sally wasn’t the one who brought my secrets to light. Mary was. Mary was our school’s big mouth who always wanted to stick her nose into other people’s business.
I was all at sea (不知所措). I wished I could have asked Sally about this. I wished I could go back in time and fix my mistakes. From that, I learned a life lesson that we should trust those we love because one little mistake could really damage (破坏) our lives.
46. 根据文本内容从方框中选择恰当的词并用其正确形式填入文本图示中,每词限用一次,有两词为多余选项。

C. He did everything with an intention. D. He studied a new language in his old age.
7. What is the best title of the text?
A. Memories of My Grandfather B. Winning a Battle to Disease
C. Connecting the Generations D. Impression of My Childhood
【答案】4. D 5. D 6. B 7. A

10. What does the author do twice a week after school?
A. Has physics tutoring. B. Joins Science Club activities.
C. Works in the school library. D. Buys snacks with friends.

A. Gave up on the subject.
B. Asked friends for help.

A. Simple. B. Popular. C. Satisfying. D. New.

A. To advertise a technology company. B. To introduce shared gym rooms.
C. To support the shared gym rooms. D. To point out the weaknesses of shared gym rooms.

Look ahead to life after you graduate from high school.可知本段中作者建议展望一下未来,接下来一句Just start to think about what you might want to do in the future作者建议只是开始考虑未来你想做什么。由此可知作者并不是让读者把自己的未来考虑非常周全。因此选项D. 阅读回答问题

【答案】Dear Li Hua,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with English learning, but don’t worry — many people face these challenges, and you can overcome them!
For memorizing words, try linking them to daily scenes or making short sentences. It’s more effective than rote repetition. For listening, listen to English songs or short podcasts daily, starting with slow speeds and gradually increasing. As for speaking, don’t fear mistakes — practice with classmates or join English corners to build confidence.
Keep practicing consistently, and you’ll see great progress soon. Believe in yourself!
Yours,
Mike
