Scientists once did an interesting study. They put a mother in one place. They put her two-year-old child in another place. There was a telephone line between them. Soon, the mother and child were talking to each other. The mother and child, in this science study, were dolphins.
Dolphins are interesting animals. Many types of dolphins live in large societies. They have many different relationships and need a good communication system. That explains why they need to speak up.
Scientists have known for a long time that animals can “talk” with each other. But dolphins have a special way of talking. When they are in a group, they mainly use different sounds to express purposes. Scientists believe that the dolphins really are talking. However, they don’t know what exactly the dolphins are saying.
Recently at Kewalo University in Hawaii, researchers have had some amazing results. Not only do the dolphins understand the meaning of human words, they also understand the importance of word order. For example, when they were asked to “touch the ball with your tail (尾巴) and then jump over it”, they could perform the actions in the correct order.
Dolphins use body language, too. They “tell” something to another dolphin by moving their body in a special way. They also do it by opening and closing their mouths quickly.

There is a famous English saying, “You are what you eat”, which means that what you put in your mouth becomes part of you. Many experts (专家) use this saying to emphasize the importance of having a good eating habit. For example, too much sweet food can make a person overweight. To stay fit, kids are often told to avoid sweet food. However, a recent survey completed by a team of American scientists has discovered something new about eating sweet food.
“When we say someone is ‘sweet’, we mean they are kind and friendly to us. Perhaps this word can help us understand more about people’s feelings and behaviours,” said Brian Meier, a scientist from the study team. “Taste is something we experience every day. What we have done is to explore whether we can know someone’s character and behaviour based on their taste preferences.”
In one of their experiments, college students were asked questions about their character—whether, for example, they were soft-hearted or not. Then they were asked to list their favourite foods. According to their answers, the scientists found that students who liked sweet food were generally nicer.
In another experiment, the scientists found that people who preferred sweet foods, such as cookies and chocolate, were more willing to help others in need, while those who preferred non-sweet foods, such as chips, were less likely to do so. For example, people with a sweet tooth were more likely to volunteer to clean up their city, visit sick children in the hospital, and so on.
The results of the experiments suggest that people’s helpfulness or kindness may be related to their preference for sweet food. So eating sweet food might be a useful way to make people more kind and helpful. Next time, try some ice cream!
16.According to the results of the experiments, what effect does sweet food have on people?
A.Overweight. B.Excited. C.Relaxed. D.Friendly.

B.Kids are told to avoid sweet food to prevent getting fat.
C.There is a relationship between someone’s character and their taste.
D.If people want to be kind or friendly, they have to eat sweet food.
19.What can be learned from the passage?
A.Scientists asked college students questions about their future.
B.Scientists told college students not to eat sweet food.
C.People with a sweet tooth are more willing to help others.
D.People’s character has nothing to do with their taste.
20.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.You are what you eat B.A survey on sweet food C.Say “no” to sweet food D.A good eating habit

Guangdong Province has introduced a new program on artificial intelligence (AI) education for primary and secondary school students, aiming to improve students’ AI literacy (素养) from an early age.
According to a news conference held in April in Guangzhou, the province will require at least six hours of AI education for students in grades one through four every year. Students in grades five and six, as well as those in junior high school, must complete no fewer than 10 hours per year. For senior high school students in grades one and two, the program requires at least one AI class hour every two weeks.
Primary students are expected to experience and become familiar (熟悉) with AI, while junior high students will begin understanding and using it. In senior high school, the goal will be changed to design and innovation (创新).
AI technology is developing quickly around the world and is having great influence on education. Teachers need to move from being AI users to AI education designers, and students should change from technology experiencers to innovation leaders. AI education is very important for young learners. It focuses more on students’ growth, practical innovation and social value rather than just test scores.
Promoting (推动) AI education in primary and secondary schools will help us better explore educational resources and support sustainable (可持续的) educational development. This will also help bridge the education differences between cities and the countryside and allow children from different backgrounds to have the same classes. AI education may let students learn without time or place limits and promote educational fairness. Developing AI education will improve AI literacy among all students. Improving life literacy is not about training students to get higher scores—it’s about awakening (唤醒) every student’s spirit of innovation.
21.What is the main purpose of Guangdong’s new AI education program?
A.To help students get higher scores.
B.To make students’ life become simpler.
C.To develop students’ AI literacy step by step.
D.To train all students to become AI engineers.
22.Match the students in different grades with their learning goals.
a. Primary school students
b. Junior high school students
c. Senior high school students

③ Experience and get familiar with AI.
A.a-①; b-③; c-②B.a-①; b-②; c-③ C.a-③; b-①; c-② D.a-③; b-②; c-①
23.What does the underlined word “bridge” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.缩小 B.扩大 C.记录 D.建造
24.How should teachers change their roles in AI education according to the text?
A.From AI users to innovation leaders.
B.From AI users to AI education designers.

When you want to buy a pair of running shoes, will you choose Nike or Li-Ning? It’s a choice between foreign and local brands.
In the past, Chinese buyers used to prefer (更喜欢) foreign brands, thinking that products made by American or European companies are of higher quality than Chinese ones. 26 Now more people turn to local brands. A recent survey explained the reasons behind it. Compared with the foreign brands, the local ones are at lower prices and of good quality. 27
Some Chinese brands have risen in recent years. 28 A study showed that 71% of foreign buyers said Chinese brands are important to them. Chinese brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, DJI, Feiyue and Shein have all become more popular abroad. For example, Huawei is the world’s second biggest mobile phone company, Times reported. Shein, a “fast fashion” brand, saw its sales reach more than 10 billion dollars last year, a 100 percent increase over the previous (以前的) year, according to Global Times. 29 European buyers say the brand is inexpensive, fashionable and of high quality.
30 “Thanks to a bigger market, improved supply chains (供应链) and production chains, this is the best time for the development of local brands,” Yan Qing, a partner with Beijing-based Hejun Consulting, told Global Times.
A.Increasingly, things aren’t like that anymore.
B.In the future, Chinese brands will continue to develop.
C.The sales have kept growing at this speed for eight years.
D.They have even started to win some fans from other countries.
E.People are also drawn by the good looks and special functions (功能).

For senior high school students in grades one and two, the program requires at least one AI class hour every two weeks.
