She skillfully shapes the materials into a nice box. As she weaves, she’s teaching a small group of women how to work with the materials. The ropes that Chaudhary and the others are using were once the lifeline for mountain climbers in Nepal’s mountains and were then tossed. The waste, including the ropes, is now finding new life, turned by skilled hands like Chaudhary’s into items to sell such as boxes and table mats (垫子). “At first, I didn’t know that these ropes were collected from the mountains,” Chaudhary says as she expertly weaves a blue-colored rope into a heart-shaped box. To her left, a box she made in the same way holds her tools — scissors and metal nails. On the floor are several mats she made, each a mix of golden yellow, purple and blue. “Later, I learned that the ropes were collected during a mountain cleaning project. And people like me, who are far from the mountains, are using our traditional skills to turn this waste into something totally new,” she said. The Himalayan mountains have been increasingly filled with waste left by mountaineering activities over the years. According to Nepal’s Department of Tourism, on Mt. Everest alone, there is nearly 140.000 tons of waste. In 2019, the government started the project Safa Himal Aviyan led by the Nepal Army. Waste collected from the project is either sent to a landfill if it’s biodegradable (可降解的) or reused if not. Now some of that material is finding its way to the locals like Chaudhary, thanks to the action. 24. How does Chaudhary deal with the collected ropes? A. She repurposes them. B. She sells them at a market. C. She repaints them. D. She sends them to a landfill. 25. Which is the closest in meaning to “tossed” in paragraph 2? A. Picked up. B. Held back. C. Thrown away. D. Checked out. 26 Why did the government start the project? A. To offer well-paid jobs. B. To clean up the mountains. C. To practice traditional skills. D. To help foreign tourists. 27. What can we learn about Chaudhary? A. She used to be a teacher. B. She joined the army in 2019. C. She sets up the project. D. She is skillful and creative. A 25. C 26. B 27. 根据第二段“The waste, including the ropes, is now finding new life, turned by skilled hands like Chaudhary’s into items to sell such as boxes and table mats (垫子). (包括这些绳子在内的废弃物现在有了新的用途,在像Chaudhary这样的巧手之下,它们被变成了诸如盒子和桌垫之类可以售卖的物品。)”可知,Chaudhary对收集来的绳索进行了重新利用。故选A。 根据第二段中“The ropes that Chaudhary and the others are using were once the lifeline for mountain climbers in Nepal’s mountains and were then tossed. The waste, including the ropes, is now finding new life (乔杜里和其他人使用的绳索曾经是尼泊尔山区登山者的生命线,然后被tossed。包括绳索在内的这些废弃物现在有了新的用途)”可知,这些绳索现在成了废弃物,由此推测tossed意思是“被扔掉”,与Thrown away意思相近。故选C。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The Himalayan mountains have been increasingly filled with waste left by mountaineering activities over the years. 根据第一段中“She skillfully shapes the materials into a nice box. (她熟练地把这些材料做成一个漂亮的盒子。)”以及第二段中“The waste, including the ropes, is now finding new life, turned by skilled hands like Chaudhary’s into items to sell such as boxes and table mats (垫子). (包括绳索在内的这些废弃物现在有了新的用途,被像Chaudhary这样的巧手变成盒子和桌垫等可供出售的物品。)”可知,乔杜里手艺娴熟且富有创造力。故选D。 C Ever wondered how many calories (卡路里) are on your plate? Cal AI, a smart fitness app, provides fast answers. Simply take a picture of the food, and the app will provide you with an accurate (准确的) calorie count to help you make smarter eating decisions. Cal AI is the brainchild of Zach Yadegari. The 18-year-old teenager came up with the idea in 2023 after having a hard time with traditional calorie-counting apps. “I was tracking calories on MyFitnessPal,” he explains. “After three days, I stopped. I was having so much trouble using their app, typing in everything — it took so much time.” In order to find a better way, Yadegari teamed up with some high school friends to build a simpler, more accurate tool. They focused on accurate calorie counting. They trained Cal AI using pictures from three different AI models. This helped it to recognize what’s in packaged foods and meals like mixed bowls. The final challenge was estimating portion sizes This was solved by comparing user photos to standard portions. The developers say that Cal AI is 90% accurate in recognizing foods and counting calories. Since it came out in May 2024, Cal AI has been downloaded (下载) over five million times. More than 30% of users continue to use the app. In February 2025 alone, it brought in over $2 million, and the numbers continue to grow. Most of Cal AI’s popularity comes from online marketing. Yadegari uses his own social media (社交媒体) to find fitness influencers who can help share Cal AI with their followers. As a result, Cal AI is especially popular among young users aged 15–25. Yadegari will graduate from high school this summer. Although he has been accepted to many universities, he plans to take a year off to focus on Cal AI, which now has 17 workers. His goals include improving the app’s accuracy to over 90% and drawing users of all ages. 28. What is Cal AI mainly used for? A. Delivery foods. B. Counting calories. C. Sharing cooking skills. D. Offering exercise instructions. 29. How can users get Cal AI to work? A. By taking photos. B. By giving voice directions. C. By typing in their food choices. D. By feeding their health information. 30. What do the numbers in paragraph 4 show about Cal AI? A. It has been questioned by the public. B. It has few users. C. It is highly accurate. D. It is well received. 31. What will Yadegari do with Cal AI next? A. Enter a competition with it. B. Bring down its costs. C. Grow its user group. D. Rewrite it. 28. B 29. A 30. D 31. More than 30% of users continue to use the app. In February 2025 alone, it brought in over $2 million, and the numbers continue to grow.(自2024年5月推出以来,Cal AI的下载量已超过500万次。 根据最后一段中的“His goals include improving the app’s accuracy to over 90% and drawing users of all ages.(他的目标包括将应用的准确率提高到90%以上,并吸引各个年龄段的用户)”可知,Yadegari接下来计划扩大Cal AI的用户群体。故选C项。 D The monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) population has dropped to its second-lowest number on record in Mexican forests this winter. The forests are the insects’ (昆虫) winter home. Their population is now worrisome as the butterfly group is already considered at risk of disappearance. Mexico’s government and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) recently made public the findings of their yearly joint study on the butterflies. The research shows that the monarch butterfly presence has dropped to less than a hectare of forest area. In the mid-1990s, monarch butterflies could be found on around 18 hectares of the forest. The findings show an almost 60 percent drop in the monarch butterfly population compared to last year’s study. It is also the second-lowest population finding since the first study took place more than thirty years ago. Biologists believe the serious situation is caused by the higher-than-usual temperatures and dry conditions in the northwestern US where the butterfly reproduces. The weather conditions have an influence on the growth of milkweed, the plant where the butterflies lay their eggs. When the young arrive, milkweed is their food for a time. In one of the planet’s famous wildlife migrations (迁徙), the butterflies travel south as far as 4,500 kilometers from places as far north as Canada. They spend the winter in warmer Mexico, where millions of the insects stay in trees that protect them from the rain and cold. Monarch butterfly populations change year to year. As recently as 2021, the same study showed a 35% increase to cover around 2.8 hectares. Scientists called for more action to help the insects. Such calls included the need to use less herbicides that may present a danger to milkweed and the need to protect forests. “We can’t lower our guard,” said Jorge Rickards, head of WWF’s Mexico office. 32. How does hot weather influence the monarch butterflies? A. They fly to as far as Canada. B. They likely have less to eat. C. They stop living in tall trees. D. They have to feed more babies. 33. We can know that Mexican forests in winter ________. A. are free from rain B. are full of tourists C. are rich in wildlife D. are often very cold 34. What do scientists suggest about monarch butterflies? A. Taking more steps to protect them. B. Stopping them eating more leaves. C. Studying them as much as possible. D. Checking their number quickly. 35. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. A New-found Insect in Mexican Forests B. The Purpose of the World Wildlife Fund C. The Secret of Monarch Butterflies’ Travel D. A Big Fall in Monarch Butterfly Population 【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第四段“Biologists believe the serious situation is caused by the higher-than-usual temperatures and dry conditions in the northwestern US where the butterfly reproduces. The weather conditions have an influence on the growth of milkweed, the plant where the butterflies lay their eggs. When the young arrive, milkweed is their food for a time. 根据第五段中的“They spend the winter in warmer Mexico, where millions of the insects stay in trees that protect them from the rain and cold. 根据最后一段“Scientists called for more action to help the insects. Such calls included the need to use less herbicides that may present a danger to milkweed and the need to protect forests. 故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“The monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) population has dropped to its second-lowest number on record in Mexican forests this winter. 和第二段中的“Mexico’s government and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) recently made public the findings of their yearly joint study on the butterflies. The research shows that the monarch butterfly presence has dropped to less than a hectare of forest area. 最佳标题为“A Big Fall in Monarch Butterfly Population (帝王蝶数量大幅下降)”。 We get frustrated (沮丧的) all the time: The scale won’t budge, the line won’t move and the WiFi won’t work. From life’s biggest goals to its tiniest annoyances, frustration is stitched into daily life. ___36___ Learning to reframe this universal emotion may be the key. Here’s how. Acknowledge roadblocks as normal. The first step is being aware that everything comes with hardships — whether improving your work, picking up a new hobby or skill, or even re-learning that skill you once mastered. ___37___ If you keep this in mind ahead of time, you can anticipate the roadblocks. Shift the viewpoint on frustration. Instead of seeing frustration as failure, regard it as evidence that you’re being challenged at the right level. Think of adaptive academic tests, which intentionally increase difficulty with students’ progress. They make frustration part of the design. ___38___ Regulate emotions in the moment. ___39___ Research suggests that doing it in urgent situations can be beneficial, though. If you’ re overwhelmingly frustrated, you can’t act. A temporary control — maybe a deep breath, a silent count to five, or a quick tightening of fists — can free up the cognitive resources that are needed to solve the problem. ___40___ Not all emotional release serves the same purpose. An angry outburst can harm interpersonal bonds, but sharing your feelings thoughtfully with someone you trust can restore your sense of perspective. This deliberate approach helps manage emotional intensity and provides valuable context. When a problem feels overwhelming, another person can often help you view it from a newer, more manageable angle. A. Help others through their frustrations. 【36题详解】 上文“From life’s biggest goals to its tiniest annoyances, frustration is stitched into daily life. (从人生的宏大目标到最微小的烦恼,沮丧都嵌入在日常生活中)”提到沮丧情绪常见,下文“Learning to reframe this universal emotion may be the key. Here’s how. 【37题详解】 上文“The first step is being aware that everything comes with hardships — whether improving your work, picking up a new hobby or skill, or even re-learning that skill you once mastered. 【38题详解】 上文“Think of adaptive academic tests, which intentionally increase difficulty with students’ progress. They make frustration part of the design. 【39题详解】 上文“Regulate emotions in the moment. (调节当下的情绪)”提到调节情绪,下文“Research suggests that doing it in urgent situations can be beneficial, though. If you’ re overwhelmingly frustrated, you can’t act. A temporary control — maybe a deep breath, a silent count to five, or a quick tightening of fists — can free up the cognitive resources that are needed to solve the problem. 【40题详解】 下文“Not all emotional release serves the same purpose. An angry outburst can harm interpersonal bonds, but sharing your feelings thoughtfully with someone you trust can restore your sense of perspective. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节, 满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15 小题;每小题1分,满分15分) Sangam was a cheerful boy living in Bengaluru, India. Usually Mom was awake making breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, but not today. At the sound of his mom coughing,Tony knocked on her bedroom door and asked with great concern,“Mom,are you OK?” “Honey,” Mom said weakly. “I have a terrible cold. You can have cereal(燕麦)for breakfast and watch cartoons. I'm going to stay in bed. ” Tony poured some cereal into a bowl and ate the pieces dry. Mom must feel very bad if she was staying in bed all day. How could Tony help?First,he wiped up the crumbs of cereal he left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly,so the kitchen looked just as it did when he woke up. But what else could he do?Tony thought. Sunday was the day when mom did laundry. Tony loved to watch the clothes spinning in the machine. That should be fun! He ran to his room to get the laundry basket, inside which there was his mother's favorite white dress, among other clothes and a pair of red socks. Tony opened the door to the washer and put the clothes inside. He had watched Mom do laundry lots of times,so he knew where to find the washing powder and how to pour it into the machine. Finally,he closed the door and pressed the big button that said “START". Tony looked through the round glass window. Water was pouring in,and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy!. Tony watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep. That meant the washing was done. Tony opened the door to take out the damp clothes. He took out a few at a time and moved them into the dryer. Everything seemed clean, and Tony felt proud. Then he pulled out a pink dress. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右: 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 But as far as he could remember, there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tony nervously knocked at his mom's bedroom door again, with the pink dress in her arms. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: But as far as he could remember, there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. “Where did it come from?"Tony wondered, reaching into the washer to take out more clothes. Then much to his astonishment,he pulled out two T-shirts,both in light pink. Realizing there was something wrong,Tony stood frozen, his heart sinking. While racking his brain for reasons,he caught sight of the red socks, and it suddenly occurred to him that they must be to blame for it. With no means of handling the situation,Tony was in such a panic that he even thought of hiding the dress from his mom. "That isn't a positive approach to the problem,” he reminded himself. Finally,he decided to dry and fold the laundry before telling his mom everything. Tony nervously knocked at his mom's bedroom door again, with the pink dress in her arms. After what seemed like ages,he came to the bedside, his head drooping. Sensing his son's unease, his mother inquired with concern what was wrong. "Sorry mom,I shouldn't have ruined your favorite dress. ” Tony apologized. Stuttering out the mistake he had made,he was ready to get a good scolding for his wrongdoing. Realizing what was going on,mom smiled understandingly at Tony,"Never mind, dear. I know you meant to help. ” Then mom held the dress up before her and said in an approving tone,"You know what?I think it looks nice. " At this Tony beamed with relief, making a silent vow to be more careful in helping his mom out next time. 词汇激活 行为类: ①拿出,取出:take out/pull out ②发现,看见:see/notice/catch sight of ③打算做某事:want to do/mean to do 情绪类: ①令人惊讶的:to his astonishment/to one's surprise ②积极的态度:positive approach/positive attitude 【点睛】【高分句型1】While racking his brain for reasons,he caught sight of the red socks, and it suddenly occurred to him that they must be to blame for the accident. D. C Ever wondered how many calories (卡路里) are on your plate? The final challenge was estimating portion sizes (估算分量). This was solved by comparing user photos to standard portions. A Enter a competition with it. B. Bring down its costs. C. Grow its user group. D. Rewrite it. D The monarch butterfly (帝王蝶) population has dropped to its second-lowest number on record in Mexican forests this winter. The findings show an almost 60 percent drop in the monarch butterfly population compared to last year’s study It is also the second-lowest population finding since the first study took place more than thirty years ago. A Big Fall in Monarch Butterfly Population 第二节 七选五 (每题2.5分,共12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 We get frustrated (沮丧的) all the time: The scale won’t budge, the line won’t move and the WiFi won’t work. B. Channel your frustration constructively. C. Any behavioral change means things won’t feel right. D. Holding feelings back for a long time hurts physically and mentally. E. To benefit from frustration, apply academic tests to future challenges. F. Though often seen as destructive, frustration has its unexpected benefits. G. That struggle doesn’t mean you’re failing, but proving you’re moving ahead. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节, 满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15 小题;每小题1分,满分15分) Sangam was a cheerful boy living in Bengaluru, India. Water was pouring in,and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy!. Tony watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep.
