In ancient China, willow branches (柳枝) were often used as a gift to friends and family members when they would leave. Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of saying goodbye?
One reason is that willow trees are strong. They can live in any soil (土壤), wet or dry, north or south. Because of this special feature (特点), when saying goodbye to loved ones, giving willow branch is a way to tell them you hope they will easily get used to their new living environment.
Another reason is that, in Chinese, the pronunciation for the word willow is similar to the character “留”. So giving a willow branch in ancient China was like asking the others to stay, even though you know that they must leave.
It’s said that this custom became popular during the Han Dynasty. At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang’an, today’s Xi’an, was a common place to say goodbye. People often stopped there and handed willow branches to people when they are going to depart.
Willow branches, as a symbol of saying goodbye, were often mentioned (被提及) in poems, especially at the time of the Tang and Song dynasties.
39.Why did people often use willow branches as a gift in ancient China?
A.To ask the others to stay. B.To ask the others for help.
C.To wish the others good luck. D.To wish the others to be healthy.
40.what does the underline word “depart” probably mean?
A.return B.leave C.meet D.celebrate
41.What is the best title for the text?
A.A Famous Ancient City—Chang’an
B.A Kind of Strong Tree—Willow Trees
C.A Common Place to Say Goodbye—Baqiao
D.A Symbol of Saying Goodbye—Willow Branches
【答案】39.A 40.B 41.D
根据第三段“Another reason is that, in Chinese, the pronunciation for the word willow is similar to the character ‘留’. So giving a willow branch in ancient China was like asking the others to stay, even though you know that they must leave.”可知,在中国古代,送一根柳枝就像请别人留下一样。故选A。
40.词义猜测题。根据第四段“People often stopped there and handed willow branches to people when they are going to depart.”
综合全文,尤其是根据第一段“Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of saying goodbye?”

Have you ever wondered why some teams work so well together while others struggle (努力争取) to reach agreements? A recent study led by researchers from Keio University in Japan might hold the key to this question. It shows that when people work closely together on a shared task, their brains actually “sync up”. This fascinating discovery belongs to the field of second-person neuroscience, a new area focusing on how two people’s brains work together during social activities. To carry out this research, scientists used a technology called hyper-scanning (超扫描技术), which records the brain activity of multiple people at the same time and compares their brain reactions.
The experiment involved 78 participants, divided into 39 pairs. Each pair faced a creative challenge: designing and furnishing a unique digital room within a specially developed computer game. They could work together without strict time limits and were asked to use minimal verbal (最低限度的言语) communication, allowing researchers to focus on non-verbal interactions. Additionally, each participant completed the same task alone on a separate occasion, helping researchers compare and study brain activity differences between solo and group work. During the experiment, researchers not only videotaped each pair’s work process but also had every participant wear special headgear. This headgear is a special tool for the research, which helps researchers to get correct results and to monitor their brain neurons (神经元). The brain neurons are basic cells that transmit and process information in the human brain.
The headgear continuously tracked how neurons reacted when participants discussed ideas or made decisions, while the videos recorded how often and how long each pair made eye contact. After collecting all data, researchers presented their findings in a detailed chart, showing a clear correlation (相关性) between eye contact duration (时长) and brain synchronization levels. The results were surprising. When working in pairs, specific groups of neurons in one person’s brain would activate, and almost the same group would become active in their partner’s brain. Yasuyo Minagawa, the lead researcher, described this rare coupling as “two brains functioning as a single, coordinated system.”
This special neural coupling, called “between-brain synchronization,” became significantly stronger when both participants looked directly at each other, leading the team to conclude that mutual (相互的) eye contact plays a key role in improving understanding of each other’s hidden intentions and true emotions. Minagawa also noted that this finding fits with the well-known “we mode” (“我们模式”) phenomenon, where two people working together seem to “share a mind” and react to situations similarly. Looking ahead, the research team plans to further explore how other common social interactions, such as face-to-face conversations and small facial expressions, influence brain function. They hope future studies will uncover more secrets about how human connections shape and even change our neural activity patterns.
42.Why did the research team ask participants not to talk too much during the experiment?
A.To study how unspoken signals help people work as a team successfully.
B.To prevent different languages from getting in the way of their work.
C.To challenge the participants’ ability to solve problems under great pressure.
D.To prove that not speaking is a better way to communicate than talking.
43.What can we infer about “second-person neuroscience” from the passage?
A.It has replaced traditional brain research methods.
B.It studies the communication between people instead of single brains.
C.It is a new field with no practical uses now.
D.It can only be carried out by hyper-scanning technology.
44.What does the underlined word “synchronization” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Separation. B.Difference. C.Independence. D.Connection.
45.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

【知识点】合作与交流、说明文
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了日本庆应大学的一项研究,揭示了团队合作中大脑同步的现象,并探讨了眼神接触在促进这种同步中的作用。
42.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“They could work together without strict time limits and were asked to use minimal verbal communication, allowing researchers to focus on non-verbal interactions.” 故选A。
43.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“This fascinating discovery belongs to the field of second-person neuroscience, a new area focusing on how two people’s brains work together during social activities.”可知,这一发现属于第二人称神经科学领域,这是一个研究两人大脑在社交活动中如何协同工作的新领域。由此可推断,该领域研究的是人际互动而非单一大脑活动。故选B。
44.词句猜测题。根据文章第三段“When working in pairs, specific groups of neurons in one person’s brain would activate, and almost the same group would become active in their partner’s brain.”可知,两人合作时,一方大脑中特定的神经元群会被激活,另一方大脑中几乎相同的神经元群也会被激活。结合“a clear correlation between eye contact duration and brain synchronization levels”并结合选项可知,眼神接触持续时间和大脑同步水平之间存在明显的相关性,因此“synchronization”指大脑活动的同步性,即“连接”。故选D。

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (增材制造), has been in use since 1986. Before that, 3D printing wasn’t so important. Now, however, industries have begun using additive manufacturing.
3D printing in fashion
More and more people have begun using 3D printing in industries such as food and fashion. However, there has not been an active market for 3D-printed shoes for years. The possibilities with shoes may be endless.
There are risks in the fashion and shoe industries when considering a long-term move to 3D printing. This would mean a change of design and production methods with a huge cost of buying new machines and materials. It is a risk without certain profit (收益), but the future of 3D-printed shoes is unbelievable because these shoes are recyclable (可回收的). It is unusual and it is a business risk. But it could be part of saving the planet from the thousands of shoes that end up in landfills (垃圾填埋场) every year.
3D printing in food
Even more excellent is 3D-printed food. Beginning with a paste (糊状物) and then the printer produces shapes and designs from a computer. This process is not easy, but restaurants and food companies are still trying out the technology.
At Columbia University, researchers have begun using lasers (激光) to cook the food as it prints, opening up the world of cooking. Once, they produced a piece of cheesecake in 30 minutes. While the researchers believe the technology will continue to grow and gain interest, it is currently much too expensive for people to use regularly.
71.How was 3D printing before 1986?

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
In today’s world, there’s a growing interest in traditional Chinese culture. Many people, like me, are discovering the joy of playing traditional Chinese musical instruments. My favorite one is the guzheng, which has a long history in Chinese music.
I started learning it at 7. At first, reading notes was hard, and I grew impatient with long practice sessions. But my teacher encouraged me and taught me to grasp the music’s deeper meanings. Now I play at cultural festivals and feel proud.
This experience has made me more patient and respectful of traditional arts. I hope more people explore such cultural beauty.

Eva and Dave were riding down the other side of the street. Suddenly, Dave stopped and pointed.
“Whoa! Did you see that?” he asked. “Jackson just totally fell down there!”
“Oh, no! Is he okay?” asked Eva.
“It looks like he hurt his knee.”
Just as they were still talking about this, Mandy caught up with them. “What are you guys talking about?” she asked.

“Was he bleeding (流血)?” asked Mandy.
The story began to spread. Within an hour, Kevin heard the whole story. “Jackson got hit by a car on his way home. There was blood everywhere, and he was sent to hospital.”

“The poor guy can’t even move, and you think he’s lucky?” said Kathy.

“Maybe we should send him a card or visit him in the hospital,” suggested Bill.
“Will he even remember us?” asked Gina.

A.How a Brain Experiment Helps Improve Teamwork
B.Eye contact Alone makes Teams More successful
C.A Study: Team Understanding Improves When People Really Look at Each Other

72.What industries have used 3D printing according to the passage?
73.Why can 3D-printed shoes save the planet?
74.How did the researchers open up the world of cooking?
75.What do you think of the future of 3D printing?
B)请根据短文内容及首字母提示,填写所缺单词。
You might have found a friend or classmate who remembers every single detail. How can they make it? A good memory is often seen as something that comes naturally, and a b 76 memory as something that cannot be changed, but actually there are plenty of things that you can do to improve your memory.
We all remember the things we are i 77 in and forget the ones that make us feel bored. This no doubt explains the reason why schoolboys remember football results w 78 difficulty but make a very great effort to remember dates from their history lessons! Take an active interest in what you want to remember, and pay close a 79 . One way to “make” yourself more interested is to ask questions—the more the better! Moreover, researchers have found that information organized in groups can be easy to remember. You can use this by organizing the materials you are s 80 . Try grouping similar knowledge together, or make a mind map of textbook readings to help group the information. Then when you learn more about that subject, you understand that better. Be sure things are clear in your m 81 . If not, ask questions until you understand! What’s more, when you’re learning new materials, take the time to think about the relationship b 82 the present information and what you’ve already known. Then it can help you remember the information. Physical exercise is also important for your memory, b 83 it increases your heart rate and sends more oxygen to your brain, and that makes your memory work better. Exercise also r 84 stress, which is very bad for the memory.
So the next time you’re learning new information, you can use the m 85 above. I’m sure that you will improve your memory and get more out of it.

Jackson was walking home from school one afternoon when his untied shoelaces (鞋带) caught his foot. He almost fell. He put down his backpack and tied them.
“Jackson just fell and hurt his knee,” said Eva.
“Was he bleeding (流血)?” asked Mandy.
The story began to spread. Within an hour, Kevin heard the whole story. “Jackson got hit by a car on his way home. There was blood everywhere, and he was sent to hospital.”
That night, Oliver got more information. “ ▲ He doesn’t even remember anything about the accident! He won’t be at school for at least four weeks.”
The next morning, everybody at school was talking about Jackson.
“Lucky Jackson,” Maya said. “He gets to miss so much school.”
“The poor guy can’t even move, and you think he’s lucky?” said Kathy.
Bob shook his head sadly, “He was so good at soccer—what if he can never play again?”
“Maybe we should send him a card or visit him in the hospital,” suggested Bill.
“Will he even remember us?” asked Gina.
“I can’t believe he lost his memory!” Lisa cried.
Just then, Jackson came around the corner and walked over to Gina and Lisa. “Hey guys, what’s going on?” he asked.
Everyone stopped talking and stared at him.

A.How a Brain Experiment Helps Improve Teamwork
B.Eye contact Alone makes Teams More successful
C.A Study: Team Understanding Improves When People Really Look at Each Other
D.Second-person Neuroscience Explains How Team Brains Work Together

72.What industries have used 3D printing according to the passage?
73.Why can 3D-printed shoes save the planet?
74.How did the researchers open up the world of cooking?
75.What do you think of the future of 3D printing?

Try grouping similar knowledge together, or make a mind map of textbook readings to help group the information. Then when you learn more about that subject, you understand that better. Be sure things are clear in your m 81 . If not, ask questions until you understand! What’s more, when you’re learning new materials, take the time to think about the relationship b 82 the present information and what you’ve already known. Then it can help you remember the information. Physical exercise is also important for your memory, b 83 it increases your heart rate and sends more oxygen to your brain, and that makes your memory work better.
