You may feel that math is difficult and boring. Is it possible that you’ve been looking at math in the wrong way? Li Xing, a math professor (教授) at Ningxia University, thinks math can be beautiful and fun. I completely agree with what he said.
Numbers are beautiful
There is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure (测量) the length from your head to your belly button (肚脐) and from your belly button to your feet. The percentage of these two numbers is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio (黄金比例), which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.
In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. As Li Bai wrote, “My boat has left ten thousand mountains far away”, “A thousand miles in one day”, — all these numbers show how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt.
Curves are beautiful
“Sine curves (正弦曲线)” are beautiful. They go towards the two opposite directions on and on without ever ending. When you look at them, you may feel like standing by the sea and watching the waves slowly moving.
Formulas (公式) are beautiful
There are some amazing formulas. In a right-angled triangle (直角三角形), the square of the longest side is the total of the squares of the other two sides. How amazing! Just as Chinese-American mathematician Shiing Shen Chern said, “Math is fun!”
4. Where can we find the golden ratio according to Paragraph 2?
A.In every math book.
B.Only in adult human bodies.
C.In nature, music and paintings.
5. Which formula should we use if “c” is the longest side based on the last paragraph?
A.a2+b2=c2 B.a2-b2=c2 C.a2*b2=c2
6. What may be the writer’s attitude (态度) for the young to learn math?
A.Mixed. B.Uncertain. C.Supportive.
7. What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To prove math is beautiful and fun.
B.To show math is difficult and boring.
C.To introduce the way to learn math.

Bamboo has been used in China for over 7,000 years. Today, it has become a “star” in the world’s fight against plastic pollution. In late May 2025, the “Bamboo for Plastic” Study Club of Beijing No.101 Middle School held a three-day science and technology exhibition (展览). More than 2,000 visitors came, including students, teachers and environmental experts from local universities.
The exhibition had three parts. In the Traditional Bamboo Crafts area, visitors watched live bamboo paper-making. This ancient skill was recorded in Qimin Yaoshu, a 6th-century agricultural book and the process produces almost no pollution. The High-Tech area showed great inventions: bamboo-wound pipes (竹缠绕管道) (lasting 50 years longer than plastic pipes) and bamboo bicycles that only weigh 3.5 kilograms. Club students worked with engineers for six months to make the bicycles strong enough.
To prepare the exhibition they also traveled to Lin’an, a major bamboo-growing area in Zhejiang. There they talked with farmers and knew about how to plant bamboo without harming local ecosystems During the exhibition, they explained their findings in both Chinese and English, winning praise (赞扬) from experts. Dr. Zhang Wei from Peking University said bamboo regrows in 3-5 years and can break down naturally Maybe in the future it can take the place of plastic. The students used traditional resources to solve a global problem.
Wang Tao, a Grade 9 student, said, “We used to think environmental protection was just picking up litter. Now we know that with creativity, common plants like bamboo can help protect the earth.”
8. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce the long history of bamboo use in China.
B.To explain why bamboo is better than plastic.
C.To set the background of the bamboo exhibition.
9. What can we infer about the club members from their preparation work?
A.They only focused on high-tech inventions.
B.They connect learning with real- life research.
C.They spent most of their time visiting farmers.
10. Why did Dr. Zhang Wei praise the students?
A.They invented new types of bamboo products.
B.They used traditional resources to solve global problems.
C.They invited famous experts to the exhibition.
11. What is the best title for the passage?
A.Ancient Bamboo, Modern Hope for a Plastic-Free World.
B.A Three-Day Exhibition on Traditional Chinese Crafts.
C.How to Grow Bamboo in an Eco-Friendly Way.

“Did you even hear my question, Lucho?” asked Mr Parra.
The students at the front of the class turned round to watch the show. They were all smiling. Eva Villa had turned to watch too, but she wasn’t smiling. For a moment Eva looked straight into Lucho’s dark sad eyes and he could feel his face turning bright red. Then she turned back to the front and said something to the girl sitting next to her. The girl laughed.
Mr Parra walked towards Lucho’s desk. Lucho liked Mr Parra, although he didn’t like history class. There was too much information to remember.
“Maybe you could tell us what I have been talking about for the last twenty minutes, Lucho, while you were looking out of the window,” said Mr Parra.
Lucho’s heart felt heavy. He had no idea what to say. He looked down at his history textbook. The page was about “The stolen past” and there was a photograph of a gold object that looked very old. Next, he looked quickly at the board and saw one of Mr Parra’s favourite things: a mind map. Every time they had to write about something for homework, Mr Parra asked them to make a mind map.
The mind map had four empty circles joined by four lines to a bigger circle in the centre. In the centre circle Mr Parra had written the word “guaca”. Lucho tried to remember where he had heard the word before.
They were all waiting. Lucho looked out of the window for a second and saw a little yellow bird. Yes, that was it! Guaca was a word that his grandmother had used, but what did it mean? The class was still waiting for him to speak. Suddenly he heard the little yellow bird singing in the tree outside and he opened his mouth.
“We were talking about guaca, sir,” he answered.
“And what is guaca, Lucho?” Mr Parra asked.
“Guaca means ‘special object’. An antique object that was made by South American tribes, usually from gold, sir.”
Mr Parra looked surprised. He hadn’t expected Lucho to know the answer.
The girl next to Eva turned to look at Lucho again. The rest of Lucho’s classmates had lost interest. Lucho felt better, but Mr Parra hadn’t finished with him yet.
“That’s correct, Lucho,” said Mr Parra. “And what is today’s homework?”
Homework? Lucho hadn’t heard Mr Parra talk about homework. He looked at the mind map on the blackboard again. Outside, the bird had stopped singing.
12. What did Mr Parra draw on the blackboard?
A. B. C.
13. When Lucho’s heart felt heavy, he probably felt a sense of ________.
A.shame B.pity C.hope
14. Which is the correct order of the whole story?
a. Mr Parra asked Lucho whether he had heard his question.
b. Lucho looked out of the window and saw a yellow bird.
c. Mr Parra walked towards Lucho’s desk.
d. Mr Parra wanted Lucho to tell the whole class what the homework was.
e. Lucho was looking out of the window while Mr. Parra was giving a lesson.
A.a-e-c-b-d B.e-a-c-b-d C.a-c-e-d-b

Why is history important? Well, a famous writer named Michael Crichton once said, “ 16 You are like a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.”
History isn’t just about names and dates in the past. It teaches us about social development. History tells us where we came from, what we did right, and what we messed up. It’s also a guidebook to our present, and a compass* pointing to our future. It gives us warnings for the future. 17 History isn’t only the study of other people. It’s also about ourselves. The people we learn about may have lived centuries ago, but their actions directly influence the way we live today. Events that seem like dates on a page have been turning points in the story of our society.
18 We can ask friends from different countries about the best books about their country’s history. We can also look into our own country’s past. We should remember stories that are meaningful to our country. 19 For beginners, learning history through stories is both interesting and memorable*.
History helps us learn about different parts of the world and different times in history. The historical books about different nations are written by people who know their history well. Some of them are about our own nation, and some are about other nations in the world. 20 That’s the value of history.
*The word “compass” means an instrument for finding direction.
*The word “memorable” is the adjective (adj.) form of the noun (n.) “memory”.
A.All of these help us hold the key to understanding ourselves and the world.
B.Then how can we learn history?
C.And it helps us keep going with knowledge.
D.If you don’t know the history, you don’t know anything.
E.The stories will give us different ideas about world history.

Usually schools and teachers set the class rules for students. But a school in Wuhan recently tried 31 different way. This year, the rules of Class 12, Grade 7 in No.6 High School have been made by 32 (they) all 46 class students.
On the 33 (one) day of the new term, the teacher allowed his students to make their own classroom rules, and asked each student to give a list of rules to help make their class a good learning environment. The whole class 34 (share) and discussed the lists. Later they added or took out some rules. The rule making activity lasted about a month. 35 (final), the class had 30 rules.
Then, rule-makers were asked to sign on (签名) the rule list-their promise to follow the rules. A poster with all the rules 36 (put) up beside the blackboard.
Most of the rules are about what students should do. “No cellphone calls and text messages in class.” and “Don’t be 37 (noise) in the classroom.” are two examples. But there are also some for teachers. “No lessons should overrun (超时) .” is one rule. Also some rules are strict 38 the students who break the rules. If a person is late for class more than three 39 (time), he or she will lose the chance to be an honor student.
Students say the rules work well in the classroom. “We are the rule-makers, 40 we have to obey the rules that we agree to,” said one of the students.

As a middle school student, I never thought artificial intelligence (AI) could be part of my daily life. But now, it’s like a helpful friend that supports (支持) me.
Every morning, my smart speaker wakes me up with gentle music. “Good morning!” it says. “The weather today is sunny. Don’t forget your P.E. clothes.” At first, I found it strange to talk to a machine. But now, I ask it questions like, “What’s the capital of Australia?” or “How do you spell ‘environment’?” It answers quickly and clearly.
In English class, our teacher uses an AI-powered app called “Speak Easy”. When I practise speaking, the app listens and corrects my pronunciation.
AI also helps me with homework. Last week, I had a math problem. I took a photo of the question and sent it to an AI tutor (导师). It showed me step-by-step solutions (解决方案) and even explained the mistakes I made. “Math isn’t so difficult anymore,” I told my friend.
However, my favorite AI tool is the reading app because it reads stories aloud with different voices—happy, sad, or excited. When I read The Little Prince, the AI made the prince’s voice sound interesting and soft. It felt like the character was right there with me.
Of course, AI isn’t perfect. Once, my smart speaker misunderstood (误解) “turn on the light” and played a song. We all laughed. But these small mistakes remind (提醒) me that AI is still learning, just like us.
Now, I realize AI isn’t something far away. It’s a tool that makes my life easier and more fun. As long as I use it wisely, it can help me become better at learning and exploring (探索) the world.
41.Did the writer find it strange to talk to a machine at first?
42.What app does the English teacher use in the class?
43.How did AI help the writer with the math problem?
44.Why does the writer like the reading app best?
45.What do you think of AI?

15. What is the best title for this story?
A.A Strict Teacher B.The Yellow Bird C.The Mind Map
【答案】12.C 13.A 14.B 15.C
根据“The mind map had four empty circles joined by four lines to a bigger circle in the centre. In the centre circle Mr Parra had written the word ‘guaca’.”
根据“Maybe you could tell us what I have been talking about for the last twenty minutes, Lucho, while you were looking out of the window,”及“Lucho’s heart felt heavy. He had no idea what to say.” 故选A。

故填a。
空处修饰“class students”需用they的形容词性物主代词their,故填their。
根据“On the...day of the new term”可知,此处指第一天,括号内“one”需改为序数词“first”,故填first。

41.Yes, he/she did. 42.Speak Easy. 43.It showed the writer step-by-step solutions and
explained the mistakes he/she made. 44.Because it reads stories aloud with different voices. 45.I think AI is a helpful tool that makes our life easier and more fun. But it’s still learning, so we should use it wisely.
41.根据第二段“At first, I found it strange to talk to a machine.” Yes, he/she did.
42.根据第三段“In English class, our teacher uses an AI-powered app called ‘Speak Easy’.” Speak Easy.
43.根据第四段“It showed me step-by-step solutions and even explained the mistakes I made.” It showed the writer step-by-step solutions and explained the mistakes he/she made.
44.根据第五段“However, my favorite AI tool is the reading app because it reads stories aloud with different voices—happy, sad, or excited.” Because it reads stories aloud with different voices.
I think AI is a helpful tool that makes our life easier and more fun. But it’s still learning, so we should use it wisely.
