From July 15, tourists who pick up litter, use public transport or bicycle around the city will be given special treats as part of efforts to offset (抵消) their impact on the environment. The CopenPay plan, designed to relieve the environmental “burden” of tourists flying to Copenhagen, is described as a “little step towards the green transition”. The plan will be trust-based, as the businesses taking part won’t ask for proof before handing over a free coffee or a meal for the tourists’ self-reported efforts. “When you travel abroad—if you fly to other places or you travel by car—you pollute,” said Rikke Holm Petersen, head of the Copenhagen tourism board. “One of the things we can change is getting people to act more sustainably at the destination.” More than 20 restaurants, cafes, boat trip organisers and other businesses have signed up for the plan and voluntarily provide special treats. The tourism board expects tourists from home and abroad, who make about 12 million overnight stays per year in the Danish capital, to take part in the activity. Green tasks and their rewards in Copenhagen ► Organic meal if you pick litter in BaneGaarden ► Boat rental if you help fish rubbish out of the water ► Swim and coffee if you bike to the Kanalhuset canal ► Ice cream if you go to the National Museum by bike ► Vegetarian lunch if you volunteer in the urban garden ► Wine, beer or soft drink at Level Six rooftop bar if you arrive by bike or public transport 21. What is the purpose of the CopenPay plan? A. To control urban traffic. B. To protect the environment. C. To promote business. D. To attract more tourists. 22. How can tourists get special treats? A. By telling their finished green tasks. B. By providing a written report. C. By signing up for a competition. D. By showing their flight tickets. 23. What reward can you get if you bike to the National Museum? A. The chance to volunteer. B. A cup of coffee. C. A bunch of flowers. D. Ice cream. B Carl Wilhelm Scheele ranks as one of the greatest scientists of all time, but he paid a big price for this honor. Born in 1742 in present-day Germany, Scheele learned about chemicals from his parents starting at a young age. When he was 14, he was sent away to Gothenburg (哥德堡) to become the apprentice (学徒) of a family friend. There he spent eight years studying chemistry and conducting experiments late into the night. Next, Scheele moved around the Holy Roman Empire, working for different chemists and becoming more learned in his trade. In 1767, he moved to Stockholm, where he discovered tartaric acid (酒石酸). After three years in Stockholm, he became the director of the Locke Laboratory. It was there, while he was analyzing a strange reaction, that Scheele became the first person to identify oxygen. He called the element “fire air” because he believed, based on the theories of his time, that a substance that made up fire was released from items when they burned. Scheele believed oxygen to be this substance, not understanding that oxygen is merely an element that facilitates (促进) the chemical reaction that is fire. As historic as this discovery was, Scheele seldom got credit for it, largely because English scientist Joseph Priestley published findings on oxygen before Scheele, even though it is now generally accepted that Scheele made the actual discovery first. Through his work, he thus exposed himself to many harmful materials. These chemicals had a deadly effect on Scheele, and he eventually died of kidney failure in 1786. Sadly, in spite of his many achievements and the fact that he gave his life to chemistry, Carl Wilhelm Scheele is often forgotten in the history of science. Though he discovered many elements before other better-known scientists did, his unwillingness to both attend meetings of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and to publish his work allowed other scientists to take credit for discoveries that he had made. 24. Who first taught Chemistry to Scheele? A. His parents. B. Joseph Priestley. C. His family friend. D. The Holy Roman Empire. 25. When did Schele probably discover oxygen? A. In 1745. B. In 1767. C. In 1770. D. In 1789. 26. What do the underlined words “the element” refer to? A. Oxygen. B. Tartaric acid. C. The strange reaction. D. The chemical experiment. 27. What can we learn about Scheele from the text? A. He has been world-famous since the 1700s. B. He actually died due to his dangerous work. C. He discovered oxygen later than Joseph Priestley. D. He thought his findings were not valuable at all. C Hadeda ibises, known as “African alarm clocks” for their loud calls, have long legs and thin beaks (鸟喙) and shiny feathers on their wings. Historically restricted to northeastern South Africa, hadedas have significantly expanded their range to many urban areas. Various ibises use remote-touch to detect movements of prey (猎物) in the soil and locate their hidden place. This ability is facilitated by a sensory organ in their beaks, called the bill-tip organ, which developed during the time of the dinosaurs. My recent research confirmed that hadedas have this“sixth sense” and found it is closely tied to soil moisture (湿度) levels. We conducted sensory tests with hadedas in bird cages. We presented them with boxes of soil containing buried worms (虫), masking any sounds with white noise and mixing dead worms into the soil to remove scent cues (气味线索). The birds consistently found live worms faster than dead ones, indicating they are able to sense movements of prey and use remote-touch to find them. Further testing revealed that hadedas found worms more quickly in wetter soils. If the soil was too dry, they lost this ability and had to rely on random searching. These findings suggest that the hadedas’ expansion in South Africa is related to increased artificial watering systems. They require wet soil to use remote-touch effectively, which could explain their absence in dry regions. Droughts and heatwaves, expected to worsen with climate change, could threaten their population by making prey detection more challenging. The study highlights the broader implications for other remote-touch hunting birds, many of which are already endangered. As soil moisture levels decrease, these birds could become more at risk, stressing the importance of considering sensory requirements in conservation efforts. 28. What do we know about hadeda ibises? A. They are known for shiny feathers. B. They barely see any rise in numbers. C. They recall images of the dinosaurs. D. They have a specialized sensory organ. 29. Why were white noise and dead worms used in the experiment? A. To get a more reliable result. B. To add experimental items. C. To copy natural habitats. D. To avoid disturbing the subjects. 30. What does the research suggest about the impact of climate change on hadedas? A. Climate change will decrease their reliance on soil moisture. B. Droughts could make it more difficult for them to find prey. C. Increased rainfall will help them relocate to urbanized areas. D. Rising temperatures could increase their feeding efficiency. 31. What does the text mainly talk about? A. The specialty of hadedas’ organs. B. The masters of dry land hunting. C. Hadedas’ prey detection in wet soil. D. Hadedas ibises’ urban expansion. D Eat more when you are stressed? You’re not alone. More than a third of the participants in a survey said they change their diets during stressful times. Many of us are quick to turn to either sugary foods or highly refined carbohydrates (碳水化合物) when the stress hits. “There can be a bit of a vicious cycle,” says David Ludwig, a professor at Harvard University. “When we feel stressed, we seek foods that are going to comfort us immediately, but often those foods lead to surges and crashes in hormones and blood sugar that increase our new stresses”. So, if eating lots of refined carbohydrates and sugar may worsen our responses to stress, are there other types of food that make us more resilient? Researcher Joe Hibbeln believes the answer is yes. He has spent the past two decades researching links between the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and emotional health. He also points to clinical trials that have found that omega-3 fatty acids may help control depressive symptoms. And a study of schoolchildren in England linked omega-3 fatty acids to more pro-social behavior. Drew Ramsey, a psychiatrist at Columbia University, says a nutrient-rich diet is best for beating stress. He points to his favorite breakfast: scrambled eggs (炒鸡蛋) mixed with the greens and topped with pumpkin seeds. With this meal, you are covering all your bases, Ramsey says. The eggs are a good source of B vitamins and protein, which can be more satisfactory than a carbohydrates-based breakfast. The greens are incredibly nutrient-dense, and are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin K and potassium. And the pumpkin seeds are a good source of magnesium, which is thought to play a role in fighting off anxiety — and zinc, which may help boost the immune system. The bottom line? The foods we choose can’t magic away stress. But Ramsey says he believes “There is a very, very strong connection between food and mood”. 32. What does David Ludwig say about the foods we seek when stressed? A. They are full of nutrients. B. They help get rid of stress. C. They have long-term benefits. D. They provide instant comfort. 33. What does Joe Hibbeln’s research focus on? A. What depressive behaviors schoolchildren have. B. Why lots of refined foods release people’s anxiety. C. Whether omega-3 fatty acids are linked to emotional health. D. How omega-3 fatty acids worsen people’s responses to stress. 34. Why does Ramsey introduce his favourite breakfast? A. To attach importance to all kinds of vitamins. B. To illustrate his ways of beating hunger. C. To show the emotional support from a diet. D. To give examples of making delicious breakfast. 35. Which of the following might be the best title for the text? A. More Food, More Comfort. B. Better Diet, Better Mood. C. Regular Eating, Reduced Stress. D. Authentic recipe, Excellent Fitness. Making yourself interesting at a gathering is not a hard job, as is suggested by Jessica Hagy, writer of “How to Be Interesting”. ____36____, if you are in a new place or visiting someone’s home for the first time. In just two weeks, I had to say goodbye to my beloved teachers, dearest classmates and my best friends. I felt a sense of blame toward my parents for what seemed like turning my world upside down. I told everyone I’d be returning to Texas as soon as possible. Upon arriving in Arizona, I made sure everyone knew I had friends waiting for me back in Texas. I was determined to keep my distance, firmly believing that I’d be leaving soon. The first day of school was a painful experience as I missed my friends in Texas badly. My life felt like it had come to an end. Eventually though, things got a little better. In my art class, sitting just three seats away from me in the same front row was an outgoing girl with the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen. Her talent in art shone through her creations, and her lively spirit drew me in. I saw inspiration and connection in her that I so badly needed. Gathering my courage, I decided to talk to her. “Hi, my name is Sheila; what’s yours?” I asked with a Texan accent. The girl next to her thought that I was asking her. “Emily.” “Oh, hi, Emily,” I played along. “What’s your name?” I asked again, focusing my attention on the blue-eyed girl. She looked behind her, not believing that I could be asking her for her name. “Jessie,” she answered quietly. “Hi, Jessie!” I smiled and returned to my work, awkward but satisfied. How many people didn’t like traditional variety in the survey? A. About 400. B. Over 1,000. C. Nearly 2,000. 20. What was the most important reason for Britons to drink tea? A. To treat their guests. B. To keep a clear head at work. C. To put aside their worries. C 19. B 20. C 【原文】British people are big tea drinkers. It is a tradition in Britain to drink tea on various occasions. People have it for breakfast, when guests visit, and during tea breaks at work. However, research from the Tea Group shows that herbal tea, fruit tea and other teas have become more popular than traditional English breakfast tea. Researchers conducted a survey of 2,000 tea lovers. Over half of them said their favorite tea was not the traditional variety. About a fifth of people chose green tea as their favorite tea. Sales of traditional tea in Britain have been declining. The new research shows that breakfast tea is likely to continue losing popularity. The researchers found many other things about tea-drinking habits in Britain. The biggest reason for drinking tea among Britons was to take their minds off worries. Britons seem to love milky and sugary tea. About 85 percent of people who drink English breakfast tea add milk. Nearly 45 percent of people sweeten their tea with sugar. Amazingly, people with a sweet tooth put three teaspoons of sugar in their cups. A Special Treats for Tourists Who Act Sustainably in Copenhagen Tourists in Copenhagen will receive free coffees, glasses of wine and boat trips if they join in environmentally friendly tasks during their holiday according to a new local plan. D. Ice cream. B 22. A 23. 根据第二段“The plan will be trust-based, as the businesses taking part won’t ask for proof before handing over a free coffee or a meal for the tourists’ self-reported efforts.” Green tasks and their rewards in Copenhagen部分“Ice cream if you go to the National Museum by bike”可知,如果你骑自行车到哥本哈根的国家博物馆,你可以免费享用冰激凌。 B Carl Wilhelm Scheele ranks as one of the greatest scientists of all time, but he paid a big price for this honor. A 25. C 26. A 27. 根据第二段中的“Born in 1742 in present-day Germany, Scheele learned about chemicals from his parents starting at a young age.(舍勒于1742年出生在现在的德国,很小的时候就从父母那里学会了化学。)” 故选A。 25. 根据第二段中的“In 1767, he moved to Stockholm, where he discovered tartaric acid.(1767年,他移居斯德哥尔摩,在那里他发现了酒石酸。)”和第三段“After three years in Stockholm, he became the director of the Locke Laboratory. It was there, while he was analyzing a strange reaction, that Scheele became the first person to identify oxygen.(在斯德哥尔摩呆了三年之后,他成为了洛克实验室的主任。正是在那里,当他在分析一个奇怪的反应时,Scheele成为第一个发现氧气的人。)”可推知,Scheele可能是1770年发现氧气的,故选C。 26. 词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“Scheele became the first person to identify oxygen.(Scheele成为第一个发现氧气的人。)”和第四段该词后的“Scheele believed oxygen to be this substance(Scheele认为氧是这种物质)”可知该词指代“氧气”。故选A。 27. 根据倒数第二段“Through his work, he thus exposed himself to many harmful materials. These chemicals had a deadly effect on Scheele, and he eventually died of kidney failure in 1786.(通过他的工作,他接触到了许多有害物质。这些化学物质对舍勒产生了致命的影响,他最终于1786年死于肾衰竭。)”可知,Scheele实际上是由于他的危险工作而死的。故选B。 C Hadeda ibises, known as “African alarm clocks” for their loud calls, have long legs and thin beaks (鸟喙) and shiny feathers on their wings. D 29. A 30. B 31. 28.根据第二段 “Various ibises use remote-touch to detect movements of prey (猎物) in the soil and locate their hidden place. This ability is facilitated by a sensory organ in their beaks, called the bill-tip organ, which developed during the time of the dinosaurs. My recent research confirmed that hadedas have this ‘sixth sense’ and found it is closely tied to soil moisture (湿度) levels.” 29.根据第三段 “We presented them with boxes of soil containing buried worms (虫), masking any sounds with white noise and mixing dead worms into the soil to remove scent cues (气味线索). The birds consistently found live worms faster than dead ones, indicating they are able to sense movements of prey and use remote-touch to find them.” 30.根据第四段 “Droughts and heatwaves, expected to worsen with climate change, could threaten their population by making prey detection more challenging.” C。 D Eat more when you are stressed? D 33. C 34. C 35. 根据第二段中David Ludwig的话“When we feel stressed, we seek foods that are going to comfort us immediately, but often those foods lead to surges and crashes in hormones and blood sugar that increase our new stresses(当我们感到压力时,我们会寻找能立即让我们感到安慰的食物,但通常这些食物会导致激素和血糖的激增和崩溃,从而增加我们的新压力)”可知,David Ludwig认为,我们在压力之下所寻求的食物能给我们提供即时的安慰。故选D项。 33. 根据第三段中“He has spent the past two decades researching links between the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and emotional health.(在过去的二十年里,他一直在研究鱼类中的omega-3脂肪酸与情绪健康之间的联系)”可知,Joe Hibbeln的研究重点是鱼类中的omega-3脂肪酸是否与情绪健康之间有联系。故选C项。 34. 根据第四段中“Drew Ramsey, a psychiatrist at Columbia University, says a nutrient-rich diet is best for beating stress. He points to his favorite breakfast: scrambled eggs mixed with the greens and topped with pumpkin seeds.(哥伦比亚大学的精神病学家Drew Ramsey说,营养丰富的饮食是缓解压力的最佳方法。他指出了自己最喜欢的早餐:炒鸡蛋配上绿叶蔬菜,再撒上南瓜籽)”以及后文对这份早餐营养成分的分析可知,Ramsey介绍自己最喜欢的早餐是为了说明饮食中的营养成分对情绪有支持作用,即饮食可以提供情感支持。故选C项。 35. 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Eat more when you are stressed? You’re not alone. More than a third of the participants in a survey said they change their diets during stressful times.(压力大的时候吃得更多?你并不孤单。在一项调查中,超过三分之一的参与者表示,他们在压力大的时候会改变饮食习惯)”和最后一段中“But Ramsey says he believes ‘There is a very, very strong connection between food and mood.’(但Ramsey表示,他相信“食物和情绪之间有非常、非常密切的联系。”)” Making yourself interesting at a gathering is not a hard job, as is suggested by Jessica Hagy, writer of “How to Be Interesting”. ____36____, if you are in a new place or visiting someone’s home for the first time. The main thing is to come with a curious mind and try new things, like new foods and talking to new people. Almost everyone likes to talk about his/ her own lives. If you start a conversation with a question like “What is your job?”, it’s very likely to create an awkward silence. ____37____, it might lead to stories like “I came here in my old car” or “I met funny people on the bus.” This way, the conversation can go in many directions. ____38____ ? If you can’t take away their drink, maybe you can find a way to take away their chance to talk a lot. If you are the one hosting, you could ask them to help you in the kitchen and move them to a different place. ____39____. And what about when there’s no talking at a gathering? 36. 根据后文“if you are in a new place or visiting someone’s home for the first time. The main thing is to come with a curious mind and try new things, like new foods and talking to new people.(如果你是在一个新的地方或第一次拜访别人的家。最重要的是要有一个好奇的头脑,尝试新事物,比如新的食物,和新的人交谈)”可知,本段为第一个建议,且后文主要建议去拜访别人的家,即建议外出探索新事物。故A选项“第一步是去探索”符合语境,故选A。 37. 根据后文“it might lead to stories like “I came here in my old car” or “I met funny people on the bus.”(它可能会导致诸如“我开着我的旧车来这里”或“我在公共汽车上遇到了有趣的人”这样的故事)”可知,后文主要列举了关于如何来的问题是回答,即本句与乘坐交通工具有关。故B选项“如果你问‘How did you come here?’” 38. 根据后文“If you can’t take away their drink, maybe you can find a way to take away their chance to talk a lot. If you are the one hosting, you could ask them to help you in the kitchen and move them to a different place.(如果你不能拿走他们的酒,也许你可以想办法拿走他们多说话的机会。如果你是主人,你可以让他们在厨房帮你,把他们移动到另一个地方)”可知,后文提到拿走对方的酒或者多说话的机会,即本句与遇到喝酒太多、说话太多的人有关。故E选项“那些喝得太多或话太多的人怎么办”符合语境,故选E。 39. 根据上文“If you can’t take away their drink, maybe you can find a way to take away their chance to talk a lot. If you are the one hosting, you could ask them to help you in the kitchen and move them to a different place.(如果你不能拿走他们的酒,也许你可以想办法拿走他们多说话的机会。如果你是主人,你可以让他们在厨房帮你,把他们移动到另一个地方)”可知,介绍了如何转移那些说太多话的人注意力的方法,下文没有给出内容,但是结合上下文语境,本空需要补充一个继续转移其注意力的方法,故G选项“或者把话题转移到他们没什么可说的事情上”符合语境,故选G。 40. 根据上文“And what about when there’s no talking at a gathering? When there’s a quiet moment, the best way to get people talking again is by saying something nice about the host.(如果聚会上没人说话怎么办?在安静的时候,让人们重新说话的最好方法就是说一些主人的好话)”以及后文“It is advisable to say, “This food is really good, and I want to know how you made it.”(你可以这样说:“这食物真的很好吃,我想知道你是怎么做的。”)” A flight attendant recently shared this heartwarming story, and it’s one that truly deserves to be told. Little did I know, that chance encounter would change the course of my life. Sharing the love for art, Jessie, Emily and I quickly developed close friendship. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As time passed, the pain of leaving Texas gradually disappeared. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Sharing the love for art, Jessie, Emily and I quickly developed close friendship.
