Additionally, practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation to help manage anxiety. Lastly, remember that it’s okay to seek help from teachers or friends if you’re struggling with certain topics.
I hope these tips help you feel more at ease. Take care and keep me updated.

Section A
Directions: In Section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, you will have seven seconds to decide which choice is the best answer to the question you have heard. Now you have 100 seconds to read all the choices on the screen.
1. W: I can't believe we're finally seeing our favorite band live!
M: Yes! This is going to be an unforgettable night!
Q: Where does the conversation most probably take place?
2. M: Yes, madam. What seems to be the problem?
W: I'd like to report a robbery. It's my car. It's been stolen.
Q: What is most probably the man's occupation?
3. M: This dress looks amazing on you! You should definitely get it.
W: Thanks! It's a bit expensive, but I think it's worth the price for my cousin's wedding.
Q: What does the woman think of the dress?
4. M: I'm in the mood for a good mystery novel. Any recommendations?
W: Oh, you should definitely read Sherlock Holmes. The way the author builds suspense is just brilliant. It keeps you guessing until the very end.
Q: What aspect of the novel attracts the woman?
5. W: It feels like our busy schedules are getting in the way of our coffee dates.
M: I completely agree. How about we schedule a virtual coffee date this weekend?
Q: What are the speakers most likely to do this weekend?
6. M: I heard you got the offer! How did you stand out among so many people?
W: Thanks! It was tough, but you know, the early bird always gets the best. I started my preparations weeks ago.
Q: What does the woman mean?
7. W: I hope we're not lost. The GPS isn't working.
M: Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Let's just enjoy the view along the road.
Q: What does the man suggest they do?
8. M: Hey, did you understand the homework in chemistry? I'm a bit confused about this reaction part.
W: Yeah, it took me a while to get it. I can show you my notes if you like; they might help clarify things.
Q: What does the woman offer to do?
9. M: Oh, I burnt the onions once again.
W: Don't worry. Cooking is as much about mistakes as it is about successes.
Q: What does the woman imply about cooking?
10. W: I can't decide between the chocolate cake and the apple pie.
M: Why not have the best of both worlds? We have a half-and-half option where you can get a slice of each!
Q: What does the man suggest the woman do?
Section B
Directions: In Section B, you will hear two short passages and one longer conversation, and you will be asked several questions on each of the passages and the conversation. The passages and the conversation will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, you will have seven seconds to decide which choice would be the best answer to the question you have heard.
Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. Now you have 30 seconds to read all the choices on the screen.
I guess in some ways I'm a fan of technology. I love using a popular application for work and jobs. But it really annoys me the way colleagues in the same office email you rather than walk over and have face-to-face conversation. It's strange. Technology both connects you and isolates you at the same time. You can connect with friends and family all over the world, and that's great, but then you see couples in restaurants, both on their phones and not communicating with each other. We should be mindful of that. Don't allow technology to separate us.
There's so much technology around already. Maybe it's difficult for adults to keep pace with it all, so I really wonder what the future holds and how young people can feel just like a fish in the water. I was not so sure about 3D printers before. One day, my son, eight years old, said he'd use one to make all the blocks he had lost—— sounds like a great idea to me. I guess the future is this“Internet of Things” thing. That means you know where you can run your whole house through the Internet. You can sit at work and turn the oven on or clean the floor. But we may become out of shape. So I suppose I'll still have my fitness app.Time travel would be pretty amazing. I'd like to time travel a hundred years into the future just to see what happens in technology. What on earth will the world be like? Anyway, be a smart technology user!
(Now listen again.)
Questions

12. Which of the following troubles the speaker?
13. According to the passage, how is the“Internet of Things?”
Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage. Now you have 30 seconds to read all the choices on the screen.
Nature's Safe, an organisation in the UK, is creating the first living biobank in Europe to save endangered animals. A biobank is a store for biological materials. Nature's Safe takes samples of animals’ cells and body tissue and stores them in the hope that they can make a species come alive if it disappears.
Tullis Matson, who started Nature's Safe, said, “There are a million species at risk.”Some of these, such as the black rhino, a kind of large heavy animal, have reached a point where conservation experts believe extinction is likely. However, the Nature's Safe biobank has stored black rhino cells. Other species include the mouse deer and the pied tamarin, a small monkey native to Brazilian forests.
The samples that Nature Safe has banked are from animals that have died in British zoos. They are frozen to-196℃ and can be stored like this for a very long time. Experts can defrost the cells and use them in breeding programmes.
It costs around £100 to keep samples from one animal. The bank aims to store around50 samples for each species, taken from separate animals. Matson says that this means“as little as £5,000 could save an entire species.”
(Now listen again.)

M: When are you actually leaving for America?
W: I'm flying on the 15th July. I'm spending a few days sightseeing in New York, and then I arrive in Los Angeles on the 20th.
M: Sounds great. And what about the housing?
W: Well, first I'm going to stay with Daniel and Susanna, two friends of my parents.
M: You're not staying with them the whole time you're there, are you?
W: No, I'll be looking for my own place. But I'm really pleased they'll be around. It'll be good to know I can contact them in case I have any problems. They're meeting me at the airport, too.
M: And what about the course?
W: It looks really interesting. They sent me a reading list, and I've found the books quite challenging. So it's going to take a long time to catch up.
M: And when does the first term end?
W: On the 7th of December. Then I'm going to San Francisco for a week. I've always wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm going to fly up there if it's not too expensive.
M: Do you know when you'll be back in Los Angeles?
W: Probably mid-December. So you can come any time after that.

Three Ways for Scientists to Manage Their Time Better
It is not necessary to become a workaholic to be a good scientist, although scientists often have great 31 for their research, and frequently work long hours. The amount and quality of what you achieve critically 32 on how effectively you manage your time. Here are some tips on how to better manage your time as a scientist.
● Make a plan
Consider blocking out your calendar into chunks of time 33 to a specific task. This is particularly important when you are writing a paper or report. Next comes the 34 step of prioritizing. Highlight tasks on your list to signify their urgency. Focus only on one item at a time: the others can wait their turn. This list needs to be updated and reviewed 35 .

Taking breaks is good for your brain. Don’t be hard on yourself: you will actually perform better if you take breaks and cultivate a life outside science. This might seem counter-intuitive (违反直觉的) with all those tasks on your list, but solutions to apparently difficult problems can come from a 36 brain — and a brain that can keep things in perspective. During your working day, allow yourself time to think, to be open to new ideas and to chat with others about new methods.
Try to avoid looking at your work e-mails when you are not working. They do not need to be answered until the next working day. The world will not 37 if you delay reading some e-mails.
● Don’t try to chase every great idea
The other side of permitting yourself time to explore 38 ideas, as well as the suggestions of managers and colleagues, is that you are left with a(n) 39 list of new directions to investigate.
Try to distinguish between things that would be nice to have and things that are vital to the 40 of your project, or PhD, on time.
Succeeding against the odds and in the face of time pressure is one of the most valuable experiences you can offer to future employer.

What did we do to deserve cats and dogs? Not only are they super cute and make us smile on a daily basis, scientists from Washington State University have now proved that touching our favorite 41 friends gently for just ten minutes is an effective way to reduce stress levels.
In findings published in AERA Open—an open access journal published by the American Educational Research Association—last month, scientists showed that the general 42 of students improves quickly, with even those who are highly stressed showing “significant” reduction in cortisol levels—a chemical produced by our bodies in times of stress.
Many universities have adopted “Pet Your Stress Away” programs where students can 43 cats or dogs and it appears to be showing both psychological and physiological benefits now.
The research, conducted by Washington State University (WSU), shows that pets improve students’ moods, and their 44 has stress-relieving physiological benefits. “Just 10 minutes can have a significant 45 ,” said Patricia Pendry, an associate professor in WSU’s Department of Human Development.
This is the first study that has demonstrated reductions in students’ cortisol levels during a 46 intervention (介入).
The team chose 249 college students and put them into four random groups and compared the effects of different 47 to animals. The first group were provided 10 minutes of actual interaction with dogs and cats. The second group waited in line while 48 others petting the animals. The third group watched a slideshow of the same animals, while the fourth group had to 49 and was told they would be allowed to see the animals after 10 minutes.
Salivary (唾液的) cortisol 50 were collected from each participant starting from the moment they woke up in the morning. There was significantly less cortisol in the saliva of students who had 51 interaction with the pets.
Many universities have started these 52 where students can interact with cats or dogs to help relieve the pressures of higher education. “We already knew that students enjoy interacting with animals, and that it helps them experience more 53 emotions,” Dr Pendry said. “What we wanted to learn was whether this exposure would help students reduce their stress in a less 54 way. And it did, which is 55 because the reduction of stress chemicals may, over time, have significant benefits for physical and mental health.”

(A)
Be a Better Traveler in the Over-tourism Era
Travel has become as accessible as McDonald’s, reaching a new high as global tourist arrivals reached 1.4 billion last year. In 1995, global arrivals numbered only 525 million.
As a father of two kids, I am the first to celebrate the drop in costs brought on by air-travel market liberalization, the rise of discount airlines, a revolution in accommodations thanks to the likes of Books.com and Airbnb, and mobile devices installed with the best maps and travel guides the world has ever known. I’m also happy for the retailers, hoteliers, museum keepers and others who have benefited financially from the tourism boom.
I can’t help but wonder, though, what we are actually seeing as we travel these days. More people are travelling, but many are visiting the same places. Is a forest of selfie sticks what I wanted to show my daughter at the Louvre? When was the last time I set food on Prague’s main square without being elbowed a dozen times? Is a trip to Barcelona complete if you have to avoid every famous location for fear of being trampled (踩踏)?
Cities can not do much about this — they can’t very well close airports, force airlines to fly less frequently or increase their prices. Raising the cost of air travel, overall or to specific destination, will never be popular. Many will object it on the grounds that travel shouldn’t be just for the rich, and it’ll hurt the residents of cities troubled with over-tourism.
So what should travelers do? Stay home? That’s unlikely. But if you are heading for some of the world’s most popular destinations, rethink your bucket list (愿望清单). You should be open to venturing beyond the obvious. Even if you are set on visiting an iconic site, consider going at an off-peak time.
The biggest thing to keep in mind, no matter where you travel, is to be well-researched, respectful and genuinely curious about the destination. Don’t fall victim to what people call “selfie culture” and “bucket list culture”. Treat the destination as you would do to your own home - not as a “hidden gem” that you throw money at to get certain experience you feel entitled to.
56.Which of the following is NOT the cause of the drop in travelling costs according to the author?
A.The rise of discount airlines.
B.The freedom to choose transport
C.The popularization of mobile devices.
D.The appearances of Booking.com and Airbnb.
57.According to the passage, why might some people oppose raising the cost of air travel?
A.It would result in a decrease in airport security.
B.It would lead to fewer people travelling overall.
C.It would hurt the residents of tourism-dependent cities.
D.It would encourage a “bucket list culture.”
58.What does the author mean by saying “Cities can not do much about this”?
A.Facing the trouble of over-tourism, cities lack feasible measure.
B.Those cities as famous tourist destinations are not only for the rich.
C.Cities with over-tourism can’t deal with protests among travelers.
D.Cities with over-tourism can stop people making trips there.
59.What should people do to be a better traveler in the over-tourism era?
A.Set on a journey at an on-peak time. B.Avoid visiting an iconic site
C.Raise the cost of air travel. D.Be willing to explore new sites.
【答案】56.B 57.C 58.A 59.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是在过度旅游时代,如何成为一名好的旅行者。
56.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“As a father of two kids, I am the first to celebrate the drop in costs brought on by air-travel market liberalization, the rise of discount airlines, a revolution in accommodations thanks to the likes of Books.com and Airbnb, and mobile devices installed with the best maps and travel guides the world has ever known.(作为两个孩子的父亲,我是第一个庆祝航空旅行市场自由化带来的成本下降的人,打折航空公司的兴起,Books.com和Airbnb等网站带来的住宿革命,以及安装了世界上最好的地图和旅行指南的移动设备。)”
根据第四段中的“Many will object it on the grounds that travel shouldn’t be just for the rich, and it’ll hurt the residents of cities troubled with over-tourism.(许多人会反对,理由是旅游不应该是富人的专利,它会伤害那些被过度旅游困扰的城市居民。)”可知,很多人反对降低旅行成本,是因为很多人认为旅行不是富人的专利,也会伤害到依赖旅游业的人们。故选C项。
58.词义猜测题。根据第四段中的“Cities can not do much about this — they can’t very well close airports, force airlines to fly less frequently or increase their prices. Raising the cost of air travel, overall or to specific destination, will never be popular.(城市对此无能为力——他们不能很好地关闭机场,迫使航空公司减少航班频率或提高票价。提高航空旅行的成本,无论是整体成本还是特定目的地的成本,都不会受到欢迎。)”可知,面对过度旅行,城市不能关闭机场,不能提高航空成本,甚至很多人反对,由此可知,城市缺乏可行的措施。故选A项。
59.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“You should be open to venturing beyond the obvious. Even if you are set on visiting an iconic site, consider going at an off-peak time.(你应该对探索一些显而易见的旅游景点之外的景点持开放的态度。即使你打算去参观一个标志性的景点,也要考虑在非高峰时间去。)”以及尾段中的“The biggest thing to keep in mind, no matter where you travel, is to be well-researched, respectful and genuinely curious about the destination.(无论你去哪里旅行,最重要的是要记住,对目的地进行充分的调查、尊重和真正的好奇。)”可知,在过度旅行时代,应该对目的地展开充分的调查,去探索一些景点之外的目的地。故选D项。

Cleaning up a messy bedroom can seem like a frightening task, but if you prepare a simple plan, you can clean up thoroughly and quickly. Here’s a basic speed cleaning roadmap:
■First, bring in a garbage bag and pick up trash around the room. Getting garbage out of the way ensures you’ll avoid spills or soiling linens like sheets or table-cloths while cleaning.
■Next, take care of the bed. An uncluttered bed with a smooth blanket and neat pillows sets the tone for the entire room. If you have time to change the sheets, do it first. If not, shake out the blanket on the floor to refresh it, and then make the bed. A neat bed can also hold items such as picture frames or books, where you can neatly line them up and easily put them back after cleaning.
■Put things in their proper place. Bring any kitchen items back to their rightful place. Place clothes either in the laundry bin, or make a pile in your closet to fold later. Put books in a neat pile or on a shelf. If you have items from other rooms lying around, start a sorting pile that you can remove and deal with later. We want the bedroom to be clean, and don’t want this whole thing turn into a game of “Where does this go?”
■Wipe down the furniture with microfiber dust wipes. Who needs polishing spray and a rag when you’re in a hurry! Pre-cut and folded microfiber cloths work great to dust furniture, a TV, bookshelves and picture frames.
■Vacuum or sweep the floor. This is an essential step, since a lot of dust and crumbs settle here. A quick run around the room will be effective. If you have more time, go for a second round.
To be consistent, start in one corner of the room and work your way around it in one direction. If you move aimlessly around, you can lose focus. Also, try to attack one chore at a time, instead of doing multiple chores at once. Once all these tasks are completed, your bedroom should look much more inviting!
60.What does the author suggest doing when we are about to organize the things in our rooms?
A.Dealing with the items from other rooms immediately.
B.Playing a game of “Where does this go?”
C.Lining up the things on the bed.
D.Sorting the things and later dealing with them.
61.What does the author mean by saying “Who needs polishing spray and a rag when you’re in a hurry!” in the fifth paragraph?
A.Polishing spray and rags are intended for specific people.
B.Polishing spray and rags are necessities to clean the furniture.
C.Polishing spray and rags can also clean the furniture but they take longer time.
D.Polishing spray and rags are useless if we have limited time to clean our bedroom.
62.Under the instruction of the speed cleaning roadmap, what is NOT recommended to do?
A.Throw away the garbage in the room at first.
B.Change the sheet if time permits.
C.Do as many chores at a time as possible.
D.Clean the floor in the end.
【答案】60.D 61.C 62.C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了基本的快速清洁凌乱的卧室的路线图。
60.细节理解题。根据清洁路线图第三点中的“Put things in their proper place. (把东西放到该放的地方去)”和“If you have items from other rooms lying around, start a sorting pile that you can remove and deal with later. (如果你有其他房间里的东西,那就把它们分类起来,以后再处理)”可知,当我们要整理房间里的东西时,作者的建议是先把东西整理好,然后再处理。故选D项。
61.词句猜测题。画线句“Who needs polishing spray and a rag when you’re in a hurry!”本身的意思是“当你赶时间的时候,谁还需要抛光喷雾和抹布呢”,结合它的上文“Wipe down the furniture with microfiber dust wipes. (用超细纤维防尘抹布擦拭家具)”和下文“Pre-cut and folded microfiber cloths work great to dust furniture, a TV, bookshelves and picture frames. (预先裁剪和折叠的超细纤维布对家具、电视、书架和相框除尘效果很好)”可知,作者认为用超细纤维防尘抹布擦拭家具很便捷、效果很好。由此推知,作者的意思是虽然抛光喷雾和抹布可以同样起到清洁家具的效果,但是耗时更久,因此在时间有限的情况下不是最优选择。故选C项。
62.细节理解题。根据清洁路线图第一点中的“First, bring in a garbage bag and pick up trash around the room. (首先,带一个垃圾袋进来,把房间里的垃圾捡起来)”、第二点中的“If you have time to change the sheets, do it first. (如果你有时间换床单,那就先换)”和最后一点中的“Vacuum or sweep the floor. (用吸尘器或扫地)”可知,快速清洁路线图建议我们先把房间里的垃圾扔掉,在时间允许的情况下更换床单,最后打扫地板,没有推荐一次尽可能地多做家务。故选C项。

A quiet space is often considered essential for achieving the concentration that leads to academic success. But research shows that some students may benefit from breaking the silence with certain kinds of music while they study. Music has a powerful influence on both the body and the brain, in ways that can help students navigate the physical and emotional barriers that come with academic challenges.
One US study compared students who took a test to soft music with those who took the test under silent conditions. The study found that students taking a test to music not only completed more questions within a set time but also answered more questions correctly. Music has been further linked to improvements in memory and recall. Experts have found that when music stimulates mood and motivation, students are able to learn more and to better demonstrate their knowledge.
A bit of mood music affects more than just memory and recall when students hit the books. Music can also relieve stress associated with school. Scientists have learned that music engages the autonomic nervous system, which not only controls the unconscious functions of the body but also influences emotions. So it’s no surprise that researchers from the Group Health Research Institute concluded that certain kinds of background music can be just as effective at reducing stress as a massage. Furthermore, while the brain feels better with music, the body may as well. Research shows that certain types of music can make physical pain feel less intense. What’s more, calming music with a steady, meditative rhythm can help people sleep longer and more deeply.
However, some educators express concern that listening to music while trying to concentrate may do more harm than good. Loud music may have a negative influence on a student’s mood or act as a distraction. Actually, the best approach may depend on the students themselves. Listening to music during study time may not mean a guaranteed A for all students, but those who find it helpful should be allowed to plug in their headphones.
63.What does the underlined word “navigate” in the first paragraph probably mean?
A.Recognize. B.Overcome.
C.Assess. D.Create.
64.What can we learn from this passage?
A.Music helps students get rid of physical pain.
B.Loud music has the same calming effect as a massage.
C.Listening to music makes it easier for students to multitask.
D.Music helps students better remember relevant information.
65.The author writes Paragraph 3 mainly to ______.
A.present the effects of music on mind and body
B.compare the functions of different types of music
C.confirm the impacts of music on memory and recall
D.give examples of the influences of music on emotions

What’s more, calming music with a steady, meditative rhythm can help people sleep longer and more deeply. (研究表明,某些类型的音乐可以减轻身体疼痛的强度。此外,具有稳定、冥想式节奏的舒缓音乐能够帮助人们睡得更久、更沉。)”可知,第三段主要是为了列举音乐对身心的影响。故选A项。
66.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“Music has a powerful influence on both the body and the brain, in ways that can help students navigate the physical and emotional barriers that come with academic challenges. (音乐对身体和大脑都有强大的影响,可以帮助学生克服学业挑战带来的身体和情感障碍。)”可知,文章主要讲述了音乐对学生学习的积极影响,如提升记忆力、缓解压力等,有助于学生取得更好的成绩。“The Score to Better Scores”既体现了音乐(score也有乐谱之意),又与成绩(score)相关,能很好地概括全文主旨,所以适合作为本文的最佳标题。故选C项。

Students’ Journey to Empower Rural Heritage
From Aug. 18 to 22 a team of 15 Tsinghua University students, representing diverse backgrounds from China, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia, set foot on an overseas research exploration focusing on rural revitalization (振兴) in Indonesian villages, particularly within Nusa Tenggara Barat(NTB).
With the diverse cultural heritage, Indonesia is home to over 83,000 villages, each radiating its own charm and character. 67
The research mission took the students to Sukarara and Sade villages, two of NTB’s tourist destinations. 68 Sukarara and Sade are a world apart from the busy cities to which most of us are accustomed. The villages are a living test to Indonesia’s rich culture and its devotion to preserving traditions. Revitalizing these villages goes beyond mere economic development. 69 The weaving skills and architectural techniques of Sukarara and Sade villages are not only beautiful, but they are also an inseparable part to the identity of these communities. It’s essential that they strike a balance between progress and preservation.
As the journey came to an end, the students carry with them not only the memories of their experiences there, but also the responsibility to make a positive impact on these remarkable places. 70 They are optimistic that Indonesian villages can experience meaningful development, ultimately leading to increased opportunities for employment and an improved quality of life.
A.While these villages possess undeniable fascination, many remain underdeveloped.
B.This effort includes the knowledge exchange between the students and local villagers.
C.Both were selected for revitalization efforts led by the Village Revitalization Team.

IV.Summary Writing (共10分)
Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point( s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush. It appears that people have got used to being in a hurry. However, it is better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done.
The main reason that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry is the possibility of doing wrongs in a rush. When people do their jobs or take actions in a hurry, they cannot make a sound decision and probably regret later. As the saying goes, “Haste makes waste. ” We should think carefully before making a decision and do our work less quickly. We should not make mistakes by doing work hurriedly.
Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. For example, taking a train to some place certainly will take more time than taking a plane. However, taking a train makes people have enough time to get to know a lot of new friends. Besides, it allows people to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. On the contrary, being in a hurry will make us lose chances in enjoying our life.
Finally, slower life pace provides better healthy conditions for us. As is known to all, taking actions in a hurry bothers people and raises their stress. People think if they are not in a hurry, they will become a loser and that annoys them. Being in a hurry can hurt people both physically and mentally. According to some studies, people who have a slower pace suffer fewer diseases, tend to be happier and live much longer than those whose life is tense, even if the former finish jobs more slowly than the latter.
In short, working quickly will bring about more material benefits to make our society more advanced. However, much stress can’t bring enjoyment, friends and health, which are much more important than money and other material advantages. Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace.

66.Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?

D.In Sukarara, a local tradition requires girls to master weaving skills before marriage.
E.They decide to be a bridge between tradition and progress, united for their growth.
F.It’s about preserving the cultural heritage and ensuring traditions being passed down.

10 tricks every iPhone user will wish they knew sooner
An iPhone is basically just a computer that fits in your pocket-and in many ways, it’s even better than a computer. The iPhone is more portable than a laptop. The camera is better than many point-and-shoot cameras. Your iPhone may even be able to store more data than a cheap desktop, and the apps are comparable to 21 on any device on the market, so it’s no wonder that certain iPhone features remain 22 (bury), and we may never discover them without an inside r tip. You can customize 23 you see and hear, and just when you think you’ve got a handle on, say, the images you collect, a new trick comes along that changes your entire operational pattern. 24 you’re conversing with Siri or figuring out a new way to navigate your notifications, here are 10 things you 25 (not know) your iPhone could do.

● Give yourself a break
