On a Friday afternoon, sunlight brightened the classroom of Class 3, Grade 4. As Mrs. Carter put a colored-paper-covered wooden box on the desk, over twenty hands shot up immediately. Mia, sitting in the front row, tiptoed to slip a note: “Why does the moon follow people?” Ajie, in the back row, pushed himself forward with a note, “Do dinosaurs dream?” The “heavy” sound of notes dropping into the box made the classroom alive.
This wooden box, called the “Question Mark Mailbox” by kids, was repurposed from an old mooncake box by Mrs. Carter three months ago. At the start of the school year, she noticed only a few active students asked questions in class, while most hid their curiosity. She then told the children to write down their questions and promised to check the box daily. Surprisingly, this simple arrangement became the class’s routine. Now, the box holds more notes — from “Why does Mom cry when cutting onions?” to “Is there an end to the universe?”— some playful, others surprisingly deep.
Every night, a pile of notes would spread out on Mrs. Carter’s desk. She looked up information and even consulted professors to explain the questions with vivid metaphors (比喻). The ten minutes before school ended each day were especially quiet in the classroom. Mrs. Carter would project selected questions and answers on the PPT. When she demonstrated why the sky is blue using a glass of water with milk, a gasp (倒吸气) came from the back row — that was the question Ajie had asked the day before.
At the parent-teacher meeting, Jamal’s mother laughed with tears in her eyes, saying that her child now kept asking, “Why don’t clouds fall down?” whereas before, he would only say, “Mom, I’m hungry.” Those notes were like stones thrown into a lake, making kids look at this familiar world with fresh eyes.
As gold sunset covered the room, Mrs. Carter stored new notes. Closing the box, she heard curiosity seeding — a forest growing in shared stare.
4. Why did the author mention the kids in class in paragraph 1?
A. To explain a teacher’s idea. B. To introduce a box’s design.
C. To show their active participation. D. To describe students’ hobbies.
5. Which words can best describe the questions in the box?
A. inquiry-based. B. Nature-related.
C. Lesson-centered. D. Parent-influenced.
6. How did Jamal change from the “Question Mark Mailbox”?
A. He focused more on tasty food. B. He became an outgoing boy.
C. He started to understand his mother. D. He became more curious.
7. What does Mrs. Carter’s practice show?
A. Curiosity needs encouragement. B. Learning enhances family ties.
C. Kids learn best through class routines. D. Teaching is based on study environment.

Restorers are removing about 100,000 hand-bound books from the shelves of the old-fashioned Benedictine library of Pannonhalma in Hungary, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, in an effort to save them from a bug infestation (虫害). Workers are taking the books down and placing them in boxes, which is the beginning of a disinfection process aimed at killing drugstore beetles (甲虫), also known as bread beetles, which are often found among dry food such as grains, flour, and spices. But they are also attracted to glues used in old books.
The bug infestation was first discovered during regular library cleaning. Employees noticed unusual layers of dust on the shelves and then noticed holes in some books. After opening the books, they could see holes made by the beetles on the pages.
To kill the bugs, the boxes with books are placed in tall, tightly closed plastic bags from which all oxygen is removed. After six weeks in an environment of pure nitrogen (氮气), all the bugs should be destroyed. Before being returned to the shelves, each book will be individually inspected and cleaned. Each book damaged by insects will be set aside for later restoration work.
The library in Pannonhalma was founded in the year 996. Located in the northwest of the country, the library was one of the most important cultural sites in Hungary and all of Central Europe, and it holds the country’s oldest book collection as well as many of the earliest and most important written records.
Although the oldest and rarest prints and books are kept separately and are not infected, Ilona Asvanyi, the library director, said that any damage to the collection is a blow to the cultural, and historical treasures.
“Higher temperatures are favorable for insect life. Until now, we have mostly been dealing with mold (真菌) damage in both storage areas and open collections. But now I think that due to global warming, more and more insects will start appearing,” said Asvanyi.
8. What can we learn about the bug infestation?
A. It happened by accident. B. It was reported by a visitor.
C. It was found in daily maintenance. D. It was detected by special equipment.
9. What does the third paragraph focus on?
A. The process of bug disinfection. B. The tools used to destroy beetles.
C. The difficulties in book restoration. D. The ways to inspect damaged books.
10. What does Asvanyi mean about mold damage?
A. It is easy to deal with. B. It is a common danger to books.
C. It is worse than insect damage. D. It is not a problem any more.
11. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To discuss global warming’s effects.
B. To explain how to kill drugstore beetles.
C. To introduce a famous Hungarian library.
D. To report on protecting historic books from beetles.
C 9. A 10. B 11. D

根据第三段“To kill the bugs, the boxes with books are placed in tall, tightly closed plastic bags from which all oxygen is removed. After six weeks in an environment of pure nitrogen (氮气), all the bugs should be destroyed. Before being returned to the shelves, each book will be individually inspected and cleaned. Each book damaged by insects will be set aside for later restoration work.(为了杀死这些虫子,装有书的盒子被放在高高的、密封严密的塑料袋里,所有的氧气都被去除。在纯氮环境中六周后,所有的虫子都应该被消灭。在放回书架之前,每本书都将单独检查和清洁。每本被昆虫损坏的书都将被搁置一旁,以便日后修复。)”可知,第三段主要介绍了消灭虫子的过程。故选A。
根据最后一段中“Until now, we have mostly been dealing with mold (真菌) damage in both storage areas and open collections.(到目前为止,我们主要处理的是存储区域和开放收藏中的霉菌损害。)”
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“Restorers are removing about 100,000 hand-bound books from the shelves of the old-fashioned Benedictine library of Pannonhalma in Hungary, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, in an effort to save them from a bug infestation (虫害).(修复人员正在从匈牙利潘诺恩哈尔姆千年修道院图书馆的书架上取下约10万册手工装订的书籍,该图书馆被列入联合国教科文组织世界遗产名录,目的是保护它们免受虫害。)”

In the digital age, technology has gradually relieved humans from some mental loads. We no longer need to memorize phone numbers or routes as smartphones and GPS do that. This frees our minds for more important things. However, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) brings a bigger change than traditional tech, making metacognition (元认知) — “thinking about thinking” — more vital than ever.
Unlike GPS, which just gives directions, AI takes over more of our thinking. When we ask AI to write emails, it not only corrects grammar but also shapes our tone and arguments. When seeking work situation analysis, AI’s ideas can even change how we see problems. This leads to a consequence: we get answers faster but think less about whether they’re reasonable. We’re not just outsourcing facts — we’re relying on AI to think for us.
Admittedly, letting AI handle some of our mental work isn’t all bad. Like using calculators to save mental energy, using AI properly can also be beneficial. The key isn’t to stop, but to use metacognition. When AI does much of the thinking for us, we must be able to critically evaluate its work.
Metacognition originally referring to the ability to think about one’s own thinking, must expand to include thinking about AI’s thinking in the AI era. For example, two people asking AI for career advice; the one who uses AI’s suggestions as a start, questions their basis, and checks if they fit personal values will do better long-term. Similarly, a good doctor using AI won’t blindly accept all diagnoses (诊断) — they know what to take, why, and where to dig deeper. Entrepreneurs using AI for business plans will add to, improve, or even reject AI’s ideas based on their own experience.
Many experts succeed by using metacognition with AI. They know their own limits and AI’s possible mistakes. They don’t use AI to replace thinking — they use it to strengthen it. In the AI era, using metacognition to judge AI’s responses is key to AI literacy (素养). Only by mastering this can we truly benefit from AI.
12. What makes AI different from traditional technologies?
A. It helps with memory. B. It provides faster answers.
C. It follows fixed rules. D. It involves more thinking tasks.
13. What does the underlined word “outsourcing” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Keeping for oneself. B. Handing over to others.
C. Thinking deeply about. D. Losing sight of.
14. How should we use metacognition in the AI era?
A. Compete with AI. B. Memorize more facts.
C. Understand AI’s logic. D. Think about human thoughts.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Benefits of Using AI B. How to Learn AI Literacy
C. Metacognition: Key in the AI Era D. AI: A Replacement for Human Thinking
D 13. B 14. C 15. C
根据第二段中“Unlike GPS, which just gives directions, AI takes over more of our thinking.(与只提供方向的GPS不同,人工智能接管了我们更多的思考。)”
根据第二段中“This leads to a consequence: we get answers faster but think less about whether they’re reasonable. We’re not just outsourcing facts — we’re relying on AI to think for us.(这导致了一个结果:我们更快地得到答案,但很少思考它们是否合理。我们不只是outsourcing事实——我们依赖人工智能为我们思考。)”可知,我们不只是将事实外包出去,而是依赖人工智能为我们思考。由此可知,划线词outsourcing的意思是“外包,交给别人去做”。故选B。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“Metacognition, originally referring to the ability to think about one’s own thinking, must expand to include thinking about AI’s thinking in the AI era.(元认知,原本指的是思考自己思考的能力,在人工智能时代必须扩展到包括思考人工智能的思考。)”以及“Similarly, a good doctor using AI won’t blindly accept all diagnoses (诊断) —they know what to take, why, and where to dig deeper.(同样,一个使用人工智能的好医生不会盲目接受所有的诊断——他们知道该接受什么,为什么,以及在哪里深入研究。)”
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“However, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) brings a bigger change than traditional tech, making metacognition — “thinking about thinking” — more vital than ever.(然而,人工智能出现带来了比传统技术更大的变化,使得元认知——“思考思考”——比以往任何时候都更加重要。)”以及最后一段中“In the AI era, using metacognition to judge AI’s responses is key to AI literacy (素养). Only by mastering this can we truly benefit from AI.(在人工智能时代,使用元认知来判断人工智能的反应是人工智能素养的关键。只有掌握了这一点,我们才能真正从人工智能中受益。)”可知,本文主要讲述了在人工智能时代,元认知的重要性及其如何帮助我们更好地利用人工智能。因此,C选项“Metacognition: Key in the AI Era(元认知:人工智能时代的关键)”最符合文章主旨。故选C。

Last month, our neighborhood launched a “Book Sharing Corner” project, aiming to build a small free library using an old phone booth (电话亭). As a book lover, I volunteered right away. Little did I know, this small effort would turn into something far more meaningful. ____16____
On the first Saturday, ten of us gathered with tools and paint. The booth, weathered by rain and wind, looked poor — its glass broken, door stuck. “Let’s give it a new life,” said Mr. Chen, the project organizer, handing out brushes. ____17____ Teens cut off old paint, adults fixed the door, and kids designed colorful posters for the walls. Laughter mixed with the sound of repairing; even shy neighbors chatted while passing nails.
By noon, the booth was unrecognizable: painted sky-blue with star patterns, its glass replaced, shelves built inside. Everyone brought their books, gradually filling the shelves. ____18____ We sorted through donated books — novels, cookbooks, children’s stories — and arranged them neatly. A little girl named Lulu left her favorite picture book, saying, “I want others to love it too.”
____19____ They were amazed to see the decorated book sharing corner. An elderly man borrowed a history book, saying he’d been looking for it for years. A student exchanged her math notes for a poetry collection. By evening, half the books had been borrowed, and new ones left in their place.
We check the booth weekly now. Last week, I found a handwritten note inside: “Thank you for this corner — it makes me feel less lonely.” ____20____ The project taught me that community isn’t just a place — it’s the small, shared efforts that connect people together.
A. We divided the work and got to it.
B. The booth soon became a sightseeing spot.
C. It has become a great chance to connect neighbors.
D. The opening day drew people from all over the neighborhood.
E. We intended to organize a fundraiser to buy more new books.
F. I added my own favorite novel, hoping it would find a new reader.

The art classroom was full of creative energy as students worked on their drawings. Mrs. Carter had just finished explaining how to use colors effectively. Most students were already drawing simple shapes and adding bright colors, but Liam sat frozen before his empty paper, his pencil shaking slightly in his hand. The blank page seemed to stare back at him, daring him to make the first mark.
Noticing his struggle, Mrs. Carter approached. “Having trouble getting started?” she asked in a gentle voice. Liam’s shoulders tensed immediately. “I... I don’t know what to draw,” he admitted, keeping his eyes fixed on the floor. The critical words of his previous art teacher — “messy” and “careless” — ran through his mind, making his stomach tighten with worry.
Mrs. Carter smiled warmly. “Remember, art isn’t about being perfect,” she said gently, placing a comforting hand on his back. “It’s about expressing what you feel inside. Why not give it a try?” With a deep breath, Liam finally made his first marks on the paper.
Yet whenever Mrs. Carter walked by, Liam quickly covered his drawing with his arm. His face turned red when classmates tried to look. “May I see your progress?” Mrs. Carter asked encouragingly during her rounds. Liam shook his head violently, his lips trembling. “It’s... not good enough,” he whispered, tears welling up.
Kneeling beside him, Mrs. Carter spoke softly but firmly. “In art, there’s no such thing as ‘not good enough’. What makes it special is that it comes from you.” Slowly, Liam moved his arm to reveal a drawing: a dog with uneven ears, surrounded by cheerful yellow stars. “Look at these wonderful colors!” Mrs. Carter exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. “Look how you’ve used shading here, and this dog has such personality! I can’t wait to see what else you’ll create — especially for our school’s art contest next month.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Inspired by Mrs. Carter’s encouragement, Liam began drawing with a new goal.

Inspired by Mrs. Carter’s encouragement, Liam began drawing with a new goal. He wanted to create something worthy of the school art contest. Every afternoon, he would sit by the classroom window, carefully practicing. At first, he erased until the paper tore, but slowly, his shaky lines became confident curves. When frustration built up, he would hear Mrs. Carter’s voice in his head: “Art isn’t about being perfect.” This always made him take a deep breath and try once more. After weeks of observation, he knew exactly what to draw for the contest: the sunset turning the swings into golden outlines.
At the award ceremony of the art contest, Liam choked up. He couldn’t believe his ears when the headmaster announced, “First prize goes to Liam for his lively and imaginative artwork!” Overwhelmed, he walked to the stage, holding tightly to his certificate. In the crowd, Mrs. Carter grinned with pride, giving him a thumbs-up. From that day on, Liam no longer hid his drawings. He eagerly shared his artwork with classmates, even helping others blend colors. The contest wasn’t just about winning — it taught him that bravery and creativity go hand in hand. By embracing his passion, Liam discovered that true art comes from the heart, not from others’ opinions.
①坐在窗边练习:sit by the classroom window, carefully practicing/practice by the window

③ 深呼吸:take a deep breath/breathe deeply/inhale deeply

Metacognition, originally referring to the ability to think about one’s own thinking, must expand to include thinking about AI’s thinking in the AI era.
C Understand AI’s logic. D. Think about human thoughts.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Benefits of Using AI B. How to Learn AI Literacy
C. Metacognition: Key in the AI Era D. AI: A Replacement for Human Thinking

G. It was in the small interactions that the spirit of community shone through.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Inspired by Mrs. Carter’s encouragement, Liam began drawing with a new goal.
