Have you ever felt the need to grab a pen and start writing your thoughts on a piece of paper? Tom had always been a lover of stories, and of words that come together to create vivid imagery (意象). He would spend hours writing down his thoughts and ideas, crafting worlds and people with his pen and paper.
But when it came to his parents, they didn’t believe how much he enjoyed writing. In fact, they discouraged him, telling him that he should focus on more practical career fields like becoming a lawyer.
The annual writing competition arrived once again, which was a time to show creative writing as well as the vivid imagination of students. Although Tom had a burning passion for writing, he had always hesitated to enter the race. He was worried that his parents would disapprove of him spending so much time writing, leading him to miss the competition in previous years. But this time, he decided to take a chance and see if he could win this race. Perhaps if his parents saw how talented he truly was, they would come to support him.
Days passed as he carefully prepared his writing, pouring his heart and soul into every word. When he finished, he read it over and felt proud of what he had written. He prepared to hand in his writing, but his parents still believed he was wasting time. He still decided to submit his entry anyway.
Weeks went by before the contest’s results were announced. Tom waited anxiously, wondering if his writing was good enough to win a prize. He checked out his mailbox every day after school.

Passage 1
(24-25高三上·广东汕头·期末)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At the age of 30, I resigned to start my own business. I felt like I was on the right path. I was busy making plans happen. For months, I kept myself moving. Even when I wasn’t working, I was thinking about work. There was never enough time, and I was afraid that if I stopped to relax, I might let someone down. But the more I worked, the less I seemed to get done.
When I started to feel really tired, I told myself I just needed to work harder and get more organized. But something was wrong. I was very tired and my body hurt all over. My smart watch kept buzzing (嗡嗡声), telling me my heart was beating too fast. I had tried hard to be healthy — I stopped drinking, changed my diet, and lost weight. I thought things would get better, but they didn’t.
Finally, I went to a doctor. “How’s your stress?” the doctor asked. I didn’t think I was very stressed, but tests showed I had a disease called Graves’ disease, which can get worse because of stress.
The next day, I ran into an old friend, Cindy. We hadn’t seen each other for a while, and Cindy looked at me with concern. “You look tired. I don’t know how you are doing, but you seems to be wearing out.”
“Things have been a bit crazy lately,” I admitted.
“Maybe it’s time to take a break,” Cindy suggested. As we said goodbye, she added, “It was good to see you. You’ve lost weight; make sure you take care of yourself.” She waved and left.
Reflecting on my previous behavior, I realized I had been missing the simple pleasures in life — the little but meaningful things that help me relax and recharge, like bonding with my family, engaging in community activities to help those in need, interacting with friends and visiting my favorite bookstore.
Days later, Cindy called and asked, “There’s a charity event dedicated to helping the left-behind children and elderly people who live alone in our community this weekend. Would you like to go with me and offer your help?”

One of my teachers once asked my class what our favourite memory was. She was asking for the moment in which “you felt the best, you felt that you had the world in the palm of your hand. ” Some described grand awards; others described winning a tournament. But I felt the best when I first learned how to ride my bike at thirteen. I didn’t mind my classmate’s stares and snickering, because I knew there was more to the story.
My brother and I shared a typical brotherly relationship: we couldn’t stand each other. Or, to be honest, he couldn’t stand me. I hero-worshipped him. My clothes mysteriously looked like his, and even my words tended to mimic those I heard from him. Many times, I even wanted to literally follow my brother, sobbing every time I was prevented from hanging around with him. Needless to say, I was an annoyance to him. Any sort of conversation we had usually degraded to fighting, and try as I might, my brother usually won.
After a while, I stopped trying to impress him and learned to be totally indifferent; perhaps the silent treatment would get more approval. I was wrong. We soon fell into a sad pattern—I avoided him, he ignored me, and deep inside, it hurt. Indifferent or hostile, he was only a brother in name. So that’s how it was between us. I believed we would forever be apart, two housemates without conversation, two strangers without warmth. And nothing more.
I still remember the day I learned to ride a bike. I had received it that Christmas, which was great, until I realized I had no idea how to ride it. My mom was too busy and had long since abandoned any attempt to teach me. I decided to teach myself to ride, a little bit each day, but in vain. On that fateful day, it was no different. I was coming to the end of my daily one-hour torture, and I was so frustrated that I threw my bike aside and began to cry.

Passage 1
(23-24高三上·广东揭阳汕尾·期末)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Josie and I wanted a dog more than anything else on the earth. We wished for one every time we threw coins in a fountain or watched the evening star drop behind the trees. However, our mother believed that we were still too thoughtless to take on the task of raising a pet. She had witnessed our forgetfulness on household chores and getting into small conflicts. In her eyes, these were signs that we lacked the necessary responsibility.
One summer night, as we sat together on the roof, Josie saw something. She pointed down toward a dark shadow, “What’s that?”
For one astonishing second, Josie and I stared at each other. Then we rushed down onto the doorway. There in our yard stood a black dog. Josie made a little kissing noise and held out her hand. The dog came to us slowly, taking a few steps forward, then a step back, not sure whether to trust us. She was so skinny that I could just feel every bone, and her coat was messy.
“We’re going to have a dog!” My inside was full of excitement, just like before Christmas or our birthday.
“What’s a good name?” said Josie.
The perfect name wrote itself in my mind, “Shadow!”
The next day, we piled together all the pocket money we had to buy all kinds of dog foods and hid it in various places because we were afraid Mom wouldn’t approve that if she knew we were feeding a homeless dog.
That night, after our parents were asleep, we silently slipped downstairs to feed Shadow. We carefully poured the dog food into the bowl, trying to make as little noise as possible. Shadow, who had been waiting eagerly by our side, wagged (摇晃) her tail. As we placed the bowl on the floor, a creaking (吱吱的) sound filled the house. Suddenly, the kitchen light was switched on, illuminating the room and revealing our shocked faces.

Passage 2
(23-24高三上·广东深圳龙岗区·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a Saturday. Whether it was sunny or cloudy, hot or cold, I cannot remember, but I do remember it was a Saturday because the mall was full of people.
I was with my mom. It is easy to miss her in a crowd simply because she is so ordinary. On that day we walked casually, taking quick looks at the store windows because we both knew we wouldn’t be buying much, like always.
I remember I was looking up at the people passing by — at first uninterestedly, but then more carefully. Ladies wore bright and elegant clothing. They had no wrinkles (皱纹) on their faces ——wiped away with expensive creams. An uneasy feeling started to settle in my chest. I tried to push it out, but failed. It got more unbearable with every second until I could deny it no longer: I was ashamed of my mother.
We were in a high-class neighborhood, living in a small, expensive apartment building that Mom chose to move to because she knew the schools were good. We were in a high-class neighborhood, but as I observed the passers-by and then turned my eyes on Mom, I realized for the first time that we didn’t belong there. I could see the wrinkles around Mom’s eyes and mouth, because she didn’t use any creams. She dressed in cheap, worn-out clothes. Her eyes were tired from working long hours to make a living and her hair too grey for her age.
I looked at her, feeling ashamed. My mom is nothing extraordinary, yet at that moment she stood out because she was just so plain. Telling her to wait for me around the corner, I hurried away to the bathroom and didn’t want to be seen with her. On the way to the bathroom, my eyes couldn’t help falling on beautiful dresses. Each dress seemed like a work of art with delicate patterns. However, my heart sank as I knew they were far beyond my reach, further reducing my desire to return.

Passage 3
(23-24高三上·广东·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I am a teacher and I have had the great pleasure of teaching for ten years. Early on in my career, I had one 4th grade student who challenged me and presented a “problem” in an interesting manner. This student would watch as I wrote on the board and raise her hand with a little smile on her face. When I called on her, she would correct me saying things like, “Mr. Griffith, you spelled ‘millennium’ wrong.” On that particular day, I was tired and depressed, and I did not take this statement very well. In fact, you might say I was “ungrateful” that morning for the student noticing my mistake.
On my first break, I stormed into the teachers’ lunch room and saw a trusted colleague. I told her what had happened and said that this student was being very disrespectful for pointing this out in front of the class. I said that this problem was ruining my day.
She smiled knowingly, as good friends do at these moments, looked at me and said, “That is one of those situations that you can complain about and build up resentment (怨恨) or you could change it into something positive. That student had to be paying close attention to find the errors you made. You might think about giving students a reward for finding the errors. Then, if you make an error, you can tell them you were just testing them.” We both smiled and my resentment started to soften.
My colleague went on, “You just started doing a gratitude list with your students. Maybe that student should be at the top of your gratitude list, because she is teaching you to turn problems into solutions.”
This shocked me. I thought this conversation would go in a different direction with some sympathy on our problems in the classroom. But this shock melted into a new way to look at this situation and to appreciate this student with gratitude.

Passage 1
(24-25高三上·广东揭阳·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The Silent Signal
In a quiet little town in England, there lived an elderly man named Harold. Uneducated and widowed (鳏夫), Harold’s heart was heavy with loneliness. His children, Emily, a doctor in London, and Thomas, a lawyer in Manchester, had moved to the busy cities, leaving him in the family home with only his old mobile phone for company. The phone was a lifeline to his children, and he treasured every ring.
One day, Harold decided to visit a local mobile phone repair shop, TechSolutions, with a sense of urgency. His phone, an outdated one, had been silent for weeks. No calls, no messages—just a terrible quiet that seemed to mirror his life.
Harold entered the shop, with his pace slow and tired. He approached the counter and handed his phone to the young repairman, a cheerful man named Liam. “There’s something wrong with it,” Harold insisted, his voice trembling slightly. “It’s not ringing, and I’m sure my children, Emily and Thomas, want to speak to me.”
Liam, with a warm smile, took the phone and began to inspect it. Harold watched and held his breath as Liam pressed buttons and shook his head, saying technical terms under his breath. After a few minutes, Liam looked up and announced, “Everything seems to be in order, Mr. Harold. Your phone is functioning perfectly.” The news did not bring relief to Harold’s wrinkled forehead. If anything, his worry lines deepened. “But if it’s working, why haven’t I received any calls?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Liam, sensing the depth of Harold’s despair, decided to dig deeper. To his surprise, he discovered that Harold’s phone was indeed receiving calls, but the ringer was turned off, and the phone was set to silent mode. Liam showed Harold how to adjust the settings, ensuring the ringer was on and the volume was up.

Growing up, the first day of school was always exciting — new clothes, supplies, and classes. But at twenty-three, the first day of school had me in a panic. I was the new teacher.
I had just celebrated my birthday, the new year, and my divorce. Unloved and unneeded, the rejection of a failed marriage still hurt. I had graduated in December, and a school more than sixty miles from my apartment had hired me to teach a class of twenty-two fifth graders.
As the principal Mrs. Bright walked me to my classroom, I asked, “What happened to the last teacher?” She answered, “She left just a week after the school year started. There have been thirteen replacement teachers since then. You are the fourteenth one, Sylvia.”
As I entered the classroom, I said with a sweet smile, “I’m your teacher for the rest of the year.” The kids were excited to meet me, but they quickly became restless. Some sat wherever they wanted, while others talked or passed notes. One girl called Tracy crawled under her desk, and a boy named Kyle began crying for no reason. The rest of the day was chaotic-fights broke out, and some kids refused to talk to me. As the final bell rang, I collapsed into my chair, exhausted.
Later, during my conference period, Mrs. Bright told me, “Tracy can’t read and doesn’t pay attention. Just leave her alone, and make up a grade.” I was shocked. “What about Kyle?” I asked. “He’ll be fine. He is just lonely. His mom is a single mother working around the clock.”
Through our exchange, I came to understand that most of these kids had been kicked out of other schools. No one came to their rescue. They were the ones no one else wanted. These kids, like me, were used to rejection. The pain of my own divorce made me realize how much they deserved better.

It was a chilly autumn day in 2009. Megan Atherton and her roommate, Sarah, found themselves standing outside a small mechanic shop in Annapolis, Maryland, with a broken-down car and empty pockets. The two had just been driven out of their apartment and were desperate to find shelter in Megan’s hometown of Pittsburgh. They had hoped that their old, reliable car would get them there, but fate had other plans.
As they stood discussing their next move, a kind voice interrupted their conversation. “Are you two in need of some help?” asked Toni Cranston, a woman with a warm smile and eyes that seemed to hold the wisdom of ages. She had overheard their difficulty while waiting for her own car to be serviced.
After listening to what Megan explained to her about their situation, Toni said, “I can take you to Pittsburgh. But I can’t leave my cat at home because she has diabetes (糖尿病) and needs her medication. You can stay at my house tonight, and we’ll leave first thing in the morning.”
Megan and Sarah exchanged surprised looks but quickly accepted, Toni’s generous offer. They followed her to her home. Toni also prepared a hearty dinner.

When Mrs. Russell finished one of her lessons, she was out of breath. A sudden burning stomachache started but she hoped her students wouldn’t notice.
“You look pale, Mrs. Russell, are you alright?” a kid, Tony, asked. Mrs. Russell tried to explain everything was alright, but the words just wouldn’t come out. She became unconscious and fell down in front of her class, and there were red and blue lights, many adults, and the sounds of children crying. An oxygen mask was then put on her.
“We’ll see what we can do for Mrs. Russell. Now all of you have to go back to class and listen to whatever Ms. Hanson tells you,” Mr. Roberts, the headmaster, tried to ask Mrs. Russell’ students to leave the office, but they wouldn’t move. Tony and Hannah were at the front of the pack. They were told Mrs. Russell needed surgery, and hospitals cost money.
“We want to have Mrs. Russell come back! She’s the best teacher ever. Please help us, Ms. Hanson, ” Hannah said, and all the kids nodded. “Kids, let’s go back to the classroom and brainstorm together about helping Mrs. Russell,” Ms. Hanson guided them back to the classroom and she instructed them to write a greeting card to Mrs. Russell.
“A card is not enough to save Mrs. Russell. She needs money to afford the surgery. We need a grown-up to help. ”Tony told his classmates at break. All the kids were thinking hard, and suddenly, Asher spoke up. “My big sister is a senior in high school. Well, I think she can make a link on a website or something. Then we can raise the money needed and help Mrs Russell!”

Jeremy, at 75, had become used to living alone in his quiet hometown with his wife gone for 10 years. He filled his days with housework, without any company, not even a pet. In winter, he often sat by the fireplace, wrapped in a blanket and drinking hot milk, with loneliness filling every corner of the house.
Warned by the government, a snowstorm was approaching. Jeremy was just about to go to bed when he heard a strange noise from his backyard, cutting through the quiet evening.
Confused, Jeremy put on his thickest coat and went towards the backyard slowly. Then he found a dog, cold and hungry, lying at the corner. But as he reached out his hand, the dog’s eyes got wild and it gave a threatening growl (咆哮). Jeremy took a step back, afraid of being bitten, since no one would care for him if things went wrong. He went back into the house and closed the door. But he couldn’t just leave the dog out there in the freezing cold.
Gathering his courage, Jeremy stepped outside again. This time, he moved carefully. The dog was still there. But its attitude changed slightly. It wasn’t trying to threaten him; it was protecting something. Driven by curiosity, Jeremy went closer, speaking softly to calm the dog. “Easy there... I’m not here to hurt you,” he said. The dog’s eyes tracked his every move, but it didn’t growl this time. Instead, it showed something hidden under its belly (肚子) slowly. It was two tiny owlets (小猫头鹰). Their small, round bodies trembled slightly, but fortunately they were in good condition.
The dog lay on the floor, eyes half-closed and body still. It had clearly given everything it had to protect the owlets. Jeremy gently checked it for signs of life. It was very weak. Jeremy knew the animal rescue wouldn’t arrive in time because of the snowstorm. But he didn’t want to lose the dog.

Mum and Matt lived in the country next to a forest. Every weekend, they took walks through the forest.
But everything changed after Mum found a new job in the city. They said goodbye to the trees and birds and moved to an apartment far from nature. They went to the park, but there were lots of people. It was hard to hear the birds when everybody was talking and laughing.
One afternoon, there was a knock on their door. It was Mrs. Potter, their elderly neighbour. She was holding a large, potted tree. “I’m trying to bring this bonsai (盆栽) home, but it’s too heavy for me,” said Mrs. Potter with a warm smile.
“Glad to help,” replied Mum.
“It’s beautiful.” said Matt, looking at it with admiration. “It reminds me of the forest back home.”
When Mrs. Potter opened the door to her apartment, Matt was surprised. It wasn’t a typical apartment at all. It was a tiny forest! The trees were carefully placed in a pot, their branches filling the space with a sense of nature. As Mum placed the bonsai, Matt’s attention was drawn to a berry-covered tree on the balcony (阳台). He saw a blackbird hopped (跳) onto it, picking at the berries. Matt watched in wonder. It had been so long since he’d seen a bird so close.
“We can still have trees in the city,” Mum said. “Although they are a little bit different from the ones in the countryside.”
“And where there are trees, there are birds, too.” Matt replied softly, giving a thoughtful nod.
Mrs. Potter smiled. “Exactly, Matt. These bonsai helps bring nature closer to us, wherever we live.”
Matt felt like the bonsai and the blackbird had made a home inside his heart, bringing a sense of peace to his urban life, in a new, unexpected form.

Passage 3
(23-24高三上·广东江门·期末)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last summer, I had a life-changing experience when I decided to join a group of volunteers in rescuing homeless dogs. It all started when I read a post on social media about a group of abandoned dogs in desperate need of help. Without hesitation, 1 reached out to the organization leading the rescue mission.
Early one Saturday morning, our team gathered at a local animal shelter, armed with determination and a strong sense of purpose. We loaded the necessary supplies into our van, including food, water, blankets and leashes. As we set off, a mix of excitement and nervousness filled the air.
Our destination was a run-down area on the outskirts of town. The deserted streets were home to numerous homeless dogs, which had become victims of neglect. These innocent creatures, once someone’s beloved pets, were now struggling to survive on their own. Upon arriving, our-hearts sank at the sight of many poor dogs searching for food among the piles of garbage. It was a heartbreaking scene. We immediately sprang into action, spreading out to cover every corner of the neighborhood.
Approaching the dogs cautiously, we soon discovered that gaining their trust was not an easy task. Many had learned to fear humans after lasting unthinkable hardships It took patience, gentle words and gestures to approach them without causing distress. With’ each successful rescue, our spirits were uplifted. Some dogs willingly followed us, desperate to escape their miserable lives. Others required a bit more comfort, but eventually, we managed to lead them to safety. They received medical attention and were provided with much-needed love.
As the days went by, our team experienced both moments of joy and heartache. Some dogs were fortunate enough to find loving homes, while others faced challenges due to their extremely unpleasant pasts. But through it all, we persisted, knowing that saving every life made a difference.

Passage 4
(24-25高三上·广东深圳·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In Gangneung Town, South Korea, lived 70-year-old Park Jun-ho. His wife passed away a year ago, and he had been relying on his adopted dog, Bobby, for company.
One day, an unexpected fire broke out and burned their house to ashes. Park Jun-ho was rescued, together with his wallet and his favorite hat, but he was severely injured. He was quickly sent to the hospital. He was heartbroken, believing that Bobby had been killed in the fire. He would rather have Bobby with him than his personal belongings.
However, Bobby was still alive, though with an injured leg. A journalist, who was covering the story of the fire incident, happened to pass by the ruins of Park Jun-ho’s house. He noticed Bobby walking around the remains slowly and sadly. It would stop at certain spots, as if recalling the times it had spent with Park Jun-ho there. It then sat down, its eyes fixed on the path leading to the house, patiently waiting. Every time someone approached, Bobby would stand up, barking to warn them off, as if this place was the last connection it had with its beloved master and it had to protect it at all costs. The journalist saw the dog there every day when he passed by. He was deeply touched and recorded a video of Bobby.
The journalist managed to find Park Jun-ho in the hospital and showed him the video. Seeing Bobby still alive, Park Jun-ho burst into tears. But due to his poor physical condition, he couldn’t leave the hospital. He requested the journalist to help Bobby. The journalist recorded Park Jun-ho’s voice and placed the recording in a cage (笼子) he bought. Then, he put the cage beside the ruins. When Bobby heard Park Jun-ho’s voice, it walked around the cage for a long time and finally entered the cage to listen to the voice. Thus, the journalist successfully took Bobby to the pet hospital.

Passage 1
(23-24高三上·广东东莞·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

【答案】One possible version:
Finally, the day arrived and the winners were announced. His heart raced with anticipation as he nervously scrolled down the list of names. And then he saw it: his name in bold letters was there. Tears filled his eyes as he felt a mixture of joy and relief, and he let out a yell. Winning the race was not only a proof of his writing ability but also a reminder to follow his heart. But he still worried whether his parents would change their attitude and support him.
Just then, the door opened and Tom’s parents returned home from work. Tom quickly gathered himself and went to show them the email, “Mom, Dad, I made it.” His parents looked at him in surprise. “Writing may be a better choice,” Tom exclaimed with determination. His parents’ faces softened as they figured out what happened. His mother gave him a tight hug, “Becoming a lawyer may lead you to a successful life, but passion can lead you to a happy one.” Tom had won not just the race but also his parents’ support.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I was hesitant at first, but I decided to give it a try. Accompanied by Cindy, I spent the weekend working as a volunteer there. We organized games to interact with the left-behind children and the experience was heart-warming when I saw their initial shyness gradually transformed into smiles and laughter. We also helped clean the rooms of elderly people in a nursing house, chatted with them, and listened to their stories. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and love. For the first time in months, I forgot about work and gained a sense of authentic pleasure in life.
After that memorable day, I decided to make a change to my life. I still work hard on my business, but I also reserve time for those simple pleasures. I sign up for volunteer activities, finding joy in the smiles of those less fortunate. I have heart-to-heart conversations with my family over delicious home-cooked meals and visit bookstores where I lose myself in the wisdom of written words. With this new routine, my health gradually improves and I rediscover the path to true well-being. I am ready to embrace a new chapter, one that includes both ambition and the joy of living.

(23-24高三上·广东华南师范大学附属中学、实验中学、广雅中学、深圳高级中学四校·期末)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

An hour later, I was showing off my riding skill to my mom.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I guess that was what caused my brother to come outside. I turned my face away, fearing he would tease me. Unexpectedly, he gently picked my bike up and gestured me over, “Get on it.” His determined look smoothed away my doubts. As he gripped the back seat, I got on the bike, took a deep breath and started to pedal, holding tightly onto the handlebars. During the whole process, we didn’t talk much. He simply offered a few necessary instructions at times. But never once did he shout at me, nor did he let me fall. His patient teaching proved efficient and I gradually got the hang of riding.
An hour later, I was showing off my riding skill to my mom. She was amazed to see me riding steadily around the yard. While sharing my learning experience with her in excitement, I noticed my brother standing at a distance smiling at me. I cast him a grateful look and he nodded and then walked back into the house. From that day on, the sad pattern between us began to change. There were occasional conversations between us, filled with less embarrassment but increasing concern. I could feel a different kind of brotherly relationship slowly developing between us. I would always treasure that day as my favourite memory, the moment when I felt the best.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 It was our mother, standing there surprisingly. Her eyes widened as she saw the scene before her. For a moment, there was silence, only with the creaking sound still lingering in the air. Stammering, we tried to explain to her. We told her about how we found Shadow and our longing for a dog, hoping that somehow our mother would understand it. After a long pause, she finally spoke, “I can see how much you both care for Shadow, and maybe it’s time for us to give her a home.”
Mom decided to give us a chance to prove we could be responsible owners. From that day on, we poured our hearts into taking care of Shadow. We woke up early every morning to take her for walks and diligently cleaned up after her. Gradually, Shadow transformed before our eyes. Her coat became shiny and healthy, and she gained weight. She followed us everywhere like a second shadow. Not only had we achieved our dream of having a dog, we had also earned our mother’s trust and respect.

Mom stood in a fancy store, holding a girl’s dress that looked much too expensive.

【答案】When I finally went back unwillingly, I found that Mom wasn’t there. I had no choice but to search the nearby stores for her. As I went from one shop to another, anxiety filled my stomach. The lingering shame continued to burden my thoughts, whispering negative words. Each store I entered reminded me of my mother’s absence, increasing my growing fear. The concerned looks from other shoppers seemed to match my own judgment. Why couldn’t she be like other mothers — polished, and stylish? My unhappiness for our differences grew, fueling my annoyance. Suddenly, my eyes landed on a high-end store, and there I finally saw Mom.
Mom stood in a fancy store, holding a girl’s dress that looked much too expensive. As I approached her, she exclaimed, “This will look good on you. Do you want it?” I knew it was far too expensive, but I almost agreed, carelessly, and thoughtlessly. Then I took a closer look at Mom. She was so small and weary, clothes worn and old. But a big smile stretched across her face, for she was happy to give me something so nice. My words died in my throat. She looked so tired all the time because she was busy working to provide for me. At that moment, Mom was beautiful and extraordinary in my eyes. I was no longer ashamed of her, but of myself.

【答案】
After lunch, I went back to my classroom and made an announcement. “Attention, please, boys and girls. I have an announcement to make. From today on, whoever of you can find any wrong of my spelling or grammar, you can raise your hands up and speak it out. I will give you gratitude and award.” Hearing that, all the students got excited and asked, “Is it true that you will give us award?” “Yes, of course.” After that day, all the students, including the girl who had found my wrong spelling, concentrated on listening to the class actively and energetically.
In the final exam, their scores for editing and grammar were significantly higher than before. All of us were pleased and satisfied. The students got their high scores and awards from me, and I achieved my goal to teaching them learn well. I was more than grateful to my colleague and that girl, without whom, I would not have learnt to be humble to accept my fault found by others and have got on so well with my students and work. I just wanted to say thanks to them again.

【答案】One possible version:
He also checked Harold’s voicemail, finding several unheard messages. As he played them back, Harold’s face lit up with a mix of surprise and emotion. He heard his children’s voices, filled with concern and love, checking in on him. Each message was like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds of his loneliness. Harold’s eyes welled up with tears as he realized how much he had missed due to a simple phone setting. He was grateful to Liam for helping him uncover these treasures of love. A kind smile spread across Liam’s face as he resolved to take further steps to assist.
Liam asked Harold for his children’s numbers and made a few calls. He informed them of the situation and encouraged them to call their father more often. Emily and Thomas were relieved to hear that their father was fine. They had been worried since they couldn’t reach him. They promised to check in regularly. Harold felt a wave of warmth, knowing everything was going well with his children. Harold’s experience reminds us all that in the hustle and bustle of life, we should never forget to call our parents. A simple phone call or visit can mean everything to them.

【答案】范文
Para 1:
I decided to do something for these rejected kids. I started by learning about each one. For Tracy, I found books that matched her interests, hoping to spark her curiosity. For Kyle, I spoke to him softly after class, offered him a listening ear, and showed him that he mattered. Abandoned too many times already, these children deserved better. “I won’t give up on you. You all matter.” I told them, trying to make everyone in the class feel loved and needed. Slowly, I built routines, clarified my expectations, and became firm in my stance: chaos would not be tolerated, but support would always be given. Instead of a dull space to learn, my classroom could become a place that provided them with safety and a sense of belonging.
Para 2:
Gradually, the students realized that I cared for them. With distrust giving way to trust, they began to open up to me, and with that trust came small yet meaningful changes. Tracy began to show a growing interest in class and Kyle’s tears became less frequent. Fights lessened and the flying notes were now replaced by questions about schoolwork. They weren’t just learning academically but emotionally, understanding how to become part of a community. A wave of relief washed over me as I knew I had made a difference — not just for them, but for myself as well. With the pain of my own failed marriage slowly healing, I felt no longer rejected and I was also needed. We came to each other’s rescue.

The next morning, as the sun began to rise, Toni packed a small bag for the cat and led Megan and Sarah to her car and sent them’ to their destination. Toni refused to accept any payment for her kindness, saying, “Sometimes, people just need a helping hand. Pass it forward when you can.”
After that, Megan and Toni lost touch. But nearly 15 years later, Megan still thought about everything Toni had done for her. She couldn’t remember Toni’s last name, but when Toni’s niece heard Megan’s story of her unsung hero, she reached out to her aunt.
“My niece kept saying there can’t be two Ton is in Ellicott City with a diabetic cat,” Toni said. Megan’s unsung hero had been found.

Inside the envelope was a beautifully written thank-you letter and a gift card. Megan said sincerely, “This is just a small way to show my appreciation for what you did for me so long ago.
All the classmates agreed and went home to tell their elder brothers or sisters about this idea. Asher’s big sister, Dianne, started an online group, and she made an internet link immediately with her parents’ approval.

The hospital learned of this news and also reduced some medical expenses. The surgery went smoothly, and in less than two months, Mrs. Russell recovered.
Mrs. Russell was back at school two months later. As soon as Mrs. Russell walked into the classroom, the children warmly applauded for her recovery. Then almost all the students ran forward to warmly embrace her, moving her to tears. Mrs. Russell expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the students. She said it was the love of the children that gave her a second life. Again with the help of Mrs. Russell, her students would have fun in learning and growing! How happy they were!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Knowing he could only rely on himself, Jeremy took immediate action. With the snowstorm intensifying, he knew he had to work fast. He carefully wrapped the dog and the two owlets in a thick blanket he had brought from his house and gently placed them near the fireplace. Then he heated some water on his stove and mixed it with some leftover dog food he had from a neighbor’s visit, hoping the warmth and nutrition would help revive the dog. As the dog began to lap up the food, Jeremy could see its strength slowly returning. The owlets, nestled close to the dog, seemed to be in awe of their protector’s recovery. Jeremy stayed up most of the night, monitoring the dog and the owlets, ensuring they were warm and comfortable.
The next morning Jeremy went to check the little hero’s condition. To his relief, the dog was now awake and alert, its tail giving a weak wag in recognition of Jeremy’s care. The owlets were chirping softly, their eyes wide with curiosity. Jeremy decided that the dog and the owlets would stay with him until he could find a more permanent solution. For the first time in a decade, the house was filled with sounds of life and companionship. The unexpected visitors had not only brought a change to his routine but also a renewed sense of connection and responsibility. As he looked at the dog and the owlets, he knew that his life was about to take a turn he had never anticipated, and he welcomed it with open arms.

【答案】
“Would you like to take care of the trees here?” Mrs. Potter suggested. Matt’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Yes, please!” he replied eagerly. He had missed the feeling of being close to nature and couldn’t wait to start taking care of the bonsai trees. From that day on, Matt and Mum visited Mrs. Potter regularly to water and feed the trees. Matt enjoyed every moment, feeling like he was reconnecting with the forest he had left behind. He learned about the different types of trees and their care requirements, and even started to notice the subtle changes in their growth.
One day, when watering trees with Mrs. Potter, Matt noticed the blackbird again. This time, it was perched on a branch, singing a melodious tune. Matt stopped watering and listened intently, feeling a sense of calm wash over him. The blackbird’s song reminded him of the mornings in the country, when the forest would come to life with the songs of various birds. He smiled, realizing that Mrs. Potter was right—bonsai trees and the wildlife they attracted could indeed bring nature closer to them, no matter where they lived. Matt felt grateful for the opportunity to care for these trees and the blackbird, and for the peace and joy they brought to his urban life.

Our efforts began to produce positive results. The community took notice of our work, and more people joined in to lend a helping hand. Slowly but surely, the situation began to change. More homeless dogs were rescued, and eventually adopted into caring families. Our small acts of kindness created a good effect that reached far beyond that neighborhood. We may not have been able to save every homeless dog, but the ones we did rescue inspired hope and sympathy.
Looking back on the summer, I am filled with a sense of pride and contentment. Rescuing homeless dogs taught me the value of selflessness and perseverance. Now, I know there are many creatures in this world that need our love, and that we humans should learn to live in harmony with them. It is an experience that changes my life forever and serves as a reminder that we all have the power to make a difference to the world.
