I like running, and for me, success was winning every race I participated in. My classmates called me“Mr. Champion(冠军)”. One day, there was a sports meeting at my school. Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in all the races: the 400m, 200m, and 100m. A large number of people gathered to watch. The crowd was eager to see the running races because they were the most exciting events. When the 400m race started, all the boys ran fast. Unsurprisingly, I finished first and received a big round of applause(掌声). Although it was tiring, I felt proud and was on top of the world.
In the 200m race, I ran at full speed and finished first once again. The crowd gave me thunderous applause. I jumped all over the place and even didn’t think it was necessary to shake hands with other racers.
Then came the 100m race. Discouraged by the previous races, most boys gave up except one: a boy named Matt, who looked a little clumsy(笨拙的) but was a determined racer. The judge came to Matt and explained the situation, asking if he would like to give up too. Wild with joy, I thought I would win the championship without effort. However, to everyone’s surprise, Matt decided to finish the race. I sniffed(嗤之以鼻), “It’s a waste of time. I’m sure he doesn’t even know where the finish line is.”
The race between the two of us began. On hearing the starting gun, both Matt and I ran toward the finish line. Soon I sped up and left Matt behind. Just 30 meters before reaching the finish line, I was expecting to receive applause for the third time when I suffered a leg spasm(抽筋).

I love running and regarded winning every race as success, earning the nickname "Mr. Champion" from my classmates. At the school sports meeting, I won the 400m and 200m races consecutively, becoming arrogant and looking down on other racers. In the 100m race, most boys gave up except Matt, a clumsy but determined boy. I sneered at his persistence, thinking I could win easily. However, just 30 meters from the finish line when I was leading, I suffered a leg spasm and was about to fall.
I thought I would win the championship without effort.(我以为我能不费吹灰之力赢得冠军。)
Discouraged by the previous races, most boys gave up except one.(受前几场比赛的影响,大多数男孩都放弃了,只有一个人除外。)
Never had I expected that the boy I looked down on would help me in trouble.(我从未想过,那个我轻视的男孩会在我困境时伸出援手。)
Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in all the races: the 400m, 200m, and 100m.(我为跑步比赛做了充分准备,参加了所有项目:400 米、200 米和 100 米。)
When the 400m race started, all the boys ran fast.(当 400 米比赛开始时,所有男孩都跑得很快。)
I was on top of the world after winning the two races.(赢了两场比赛后,我感觉站在了世界之巅。)
排比:I jumped all over the place, cheered loudly, and even ignored other racers.(我到处跳跃,大声欢呼,甚至无视其他选手。)
I fell hard to the ground.
With his help, I slowly stood up.
I fell hard to the ground.
I fell hard to the ground. The sharp pain from the leg spasm made me groan, and tears blurred my eyes. The audience’s cheers turned into gasps of surprise. I tried to get up but failed, my pride shattered into pieces by the sudden misfortune. To my astonishment, Matt, who I had looked down on, turned back from the direction of the finish line and rushed to me. Squatting down, he asked gently, “Are you okay? Can you move your leg?” Staring at his sincere eyes, I felt a surge of guilt for mocking him earlier, unable to say a word.
With his help, I slowly stood up.
写作思路:→①在 Matt 的搀扶下,“我” 忍着痛慢慢站起,腿部的痛感渐渐缓解,但内心的羞愧愈发强烈②“我” 低着头,真诚地向 Matt 道歉:“I’m sorry for looking down on you. You’re a true winner.”③Matt smiled and shook his head: “It’s okay. We’re all here to enjoy the race, not just win.”④观众席爆发出雷鸣般的掌声,“我” 突然领悟,真正的成功不是独自站上领奖台,而是拥有尊重他人的品格与互助的善意,这比任何冠军奖杯都珍贵。
With his help, I slowly stood up. The pain in my leg eased a little, but shame weighed heavily on my heart. I lowered my head and apologized sincerely: “I’m sorry for mocking you earlier. You’re a far better person than I am.” Matt smiled warmly: “No hard feelings. Winning isn’t everything—helping others matters more.” The audience burst into thunderous applause. At that moment, I realized the true meaning of success: it’s not about defeating others, but about respecting them and showing kindness. That day, Matt taught me a lesson I would never forget.
