Once, in school, Ray got bad marks (分数) and was very down. He just walked round and round the school playground. Mike followed Ray. Far enough not to stifle him, but near enough never to let Ray out of his sight. Ray was very angry at that time. He just wanted to be alone. At one point, he got so angry that he even shouted out, “Just leave me alone!” But Mike just silently walked on behind Ray, still never saying a word.
It was only after many years, almost twenty years later, that Ray truly began to understand the lesson on friendship which had been shown to him that day, Ray and Mike had already separated by then, only seeing each other a couple of times every year. When you want to buy or rent a house, you are expecting not only the good quality of the house but also the nice neighbours who live near you. Almost everyone agrees that it is helpful to live with some good neighbours. However, the standard of good neighbours is different from people to people. In my opinion, a good neighbour should be someone who respects your life, is ready to help others and concerned about the environment in the neighbourhood.
First of all, it is very important for your neighbour to respect you life. Just imagine, if you have a neighbour curious (好奇的) about you, especially your personal life, and tries to know more about it by whatever means, what will you feel? What is more, he or she may also talk with others about your life. Do you want to live with him or her anymore? The answer is definitely negative. You will feel very uncomfortable to have such kind of people in your neighbourbood and you may move as soon as possible.
Next, what you should consider is that a good neighbour is always willing to give you a hand when you need him or her. For example, if you are not at home and someone suspect (可疑的) tries to unlock your door, your neighbour who sees it should call 911, and it will help you to protect your property (财产).
Finally, a good neighbor should be concerned about the environment, especially around your neighbourhood. He or she should throw all the rubbish into garbage and keep the place clean, because a good environment can make people who live in it comfortable and relaxed all the time.
8. The following are the qualities(素质) of a good neighbour EXCEPT .
A. respecting others’ life B. being kind to others’ pets
C. being willing to help people D. being responsible for the environment
9. If a curious person is your neighbour, you’ll .
A. feel happy B. know more about him / her
C. become his / her friend D. not be comfortable
10. As the text mentions, can make people relaxed.
A. a good neighbor B. a clean home
C. a good environment D. a deep sleep
11. What’s the best title of the text .
A. The qualities of a good neighbour
B. The differences between good neighbours
C. The importance of a good environment
D. How to get along with our neighbours
D
A recent study from a team of South Korean researchers suggests that eating alone often may lead to poor eating habits and poor food choices. Specifically, the study found that men who ate alone more than twice a week had a greater risk of developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
For children, eating with their families is not only about preventing bad results—it is also about developing good ones.
In 2014, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) looked at data from nearly three-quarters of the world’s countries. Among its findings was the fact that students who shared a main meal with their families were less likely to skip school. Children who eat a main meal with their families are also less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol.
In the report titled “The Importance of Family Dinners” researchers say that “teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what’s going on in their lives”. They also claim that when teens say they feel closer to their parents, they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.
Another study from the University of Montreal found that children who ate with their families experience long-term physical and mental health benefits. These children were physically in better shape and drank fewer sugary soft drinks. These children also seemed to have better social skills and they were less aggressive (好斗的).
Professor Linda Pagani says that mealtimes shared with parents “likely provide young children with first-hand social interactions, discussions of social issues and day-to-day concerns”. She adds that they may likely help the child have better communication skills with others.
12. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Advantages of eating with parents. B. Benefits of eating alone.
C. Ways of developing social skills. D. Dangers of using drugs and alcohol.
13. Which is the benefit of eating with the families?
A. Abuse drugs and alcohol. B. Drink more sugary soft drinks.
C Get on well with their parents. D. Be more socially active and aggressive.
14. Why is Professor Pagani mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. To introduce a famous person. B. To offer background information.
C. To explain further. D. To show the disadvantage of eating with parents.
15. Where does the passage most probably come from?
A. A popular novel. B. A travel magazine.
C. A science report. D. A biology textbook.

New Year was just around the corner. I was second grade then, 7 years old. One day, on my way home from school, a lady gave me a piece of paper saying that the neighborhood was asking people to give New Year presents to those who needed them. When I got home, I showed my mother the paper and said that I wanted to take part in this plan. My mother thought this was a very good idea and encouraged me to spread kindness to others less fortunate than us. She said we would become “Neighborhood Angels (天使)”.
Several days later, my mother said, “Get ready, and we will go.” “Where are we going?” I asked my mother. “I will drive you to Boots Department Store to buy something you think would be suitable for a neighborhood present.”, she replied. As we went into the store, my mother gave me £20 to pay for the present. Then she said, “I’ll see you outside in the car.” She left me alone to do the shopping. I was not used to buying things on my own, as I had always been with one of my parents before. Everything seemed very strange and confusing to me, but I carried on. I asked myself what I should buy and for whom. An idea quickly occurred to me. There was a poor boy called Ralph who lived in our neighborhood. I used to see him often without a jacket during the freezing winter months, so I decided, then and there, to buy him a warm jacket.I looked at many jackets and eventually chose a heavy blue one. The price was just within my spending limit. The assistant at the checkout asked, “Is this for someone?”, as I paid for the jacket happily. I said it was, and she wished me a Happy New Year. I felt as if I were a real“Neighborhood Angel”.
Paragraph 1:
That evening, my mother helped me pack the jacket in beautiful paper. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
My mother and I waited breathlessly for Ralph’s front door to open and finally it opened ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

In the report titled “The Importance of Family Dinners”, researchers say that “teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what’s going on in their lives”.
C. Get on well with their parents.

My mother and I waited breathlessly for Ralph’s front door to open and finally it opened. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Possible version 1:
That evening my mother helped me pack the jacket in beautiful paper. She wrote “To Ralph, From a person who cares about you” on it, after which she drove me over to Ralph’s house in the neighborhood. My mother parked down the street. I took a deep breath and dashed to his front door. Seeing no other people notice us, I threw the New Year’s present down on his steps, pressed his door bell and then hid in the car.
My mother and I waited breathlessly for Ralph’s front door to open and finally it opened. Out came Ralph. Seeing the jacket, he looked astonished and then called his mother to come out. After hearing them say “Thanks” loudly, I felt very proud of what I had done. At that time I decided to be a good person spreading kindness forever. It was on that night that I realized the truth that he who has no kindness in his heart will never find kindness in someone else.
Possible version 2:
That evening, my mother helped me pack the jacket in beautiful paper. In the package, my mother included a New Year’s card, on which she wrote “Happy New Year to Ralph, From someone who cares about you”. Then we got dressed and headed for his house in the car. On the way, she asked how the idea occurred to me and I told her about Ralph. She was actually amazed at my idea. Soon, we stopped at Ralph’s house and knocked on the door.
My mother and I waited breathlessly for Ralph’s front door to open and finally it opened. Ralph was surprised to see us at the door. My mother explained, “We are ‘Neighborhood Angels’, and we are here to give out New Year’s presents.” Meanwhile, I handed the jacket to him and wished him a Happy New Year. His face lit up and he thanked us over and over again. Seeing the big smile on his face, I made up my mind to be a New Year Angel in the years ahead. As you know, angels are actually in everyone’s heart.
①由第一段首句内容“那天晚上,妈妈帮我用漂亮的纸把夹克衫包起来。”可知,所以接下来应该写作者传达对小男孩的新年祝福(比如写贺卡),以及动身去送礼物;
