In the quiet oil town of Drumright, Oklahoma — where the highway passes by empty shops and the population is just under 3,000 — Sarah Hagan is rewriting the rules of math education.
The 25-year-old teacher, who turned down opportunities in bigger cities, now spends her days in a once-worn-out classroom at Drumright High School, earning barely $30,000 a year. “When they offered me the job in April before graduation, I just said ‘yes’,” recalls Hagan, whose passion outweighs the district’s limited resources.
What began as a simple room with uneven floorboards and mismatched walls has become a lively math space under Hagan’s care. Every surface bursts with colorful creations: posters and paper fill every corner and a handmade sign declares her the “Teacher of Awesome (Math).” This transformation mirrors her revolutionary approach to education — one that relies not only on textbooks but also on student-crafted learning journals filled with origami folds (折纸), hand-drawn diagrams, and lessons printed on rainbow-colored paper.
Hagan’s classroom is full of unconventional energy: algebra becomes speed-dating as students pair up to name polynomials (多项式) and spaghetti strands (意大利面) demonstrate geometric principles. “She makes us forget we’re learning,” says Jake Williams. Even math haters like Taylor Russell find themselves engaged: “This year, I actually love it.”
The young educator’s “A, B, or Not Yet” grading system rules out failure as an option. Students reattempt assignments until they master the material, with Hagan routinely staying hours after school to provide support. During lunch breaks, students gather in her office for help with all subjects, not just math.
Fellow teacher Melinda Parker voices what many think: “We’re so lucky to have her in Drumright.” Though the workload sometimes wears her out, her commitment never declines. In rare free moments, she shares her innovative methods through her blog, appropriately titled Math equals Love — a philosophy that continues to transform lives in this unlikely corner of rural Oklahoma.
24. Why does the author mention the condition of Drumright?
A. To describe the falling of an oil town.
B. To highlight the value of Hagan’s choice.
C. To present the challenges of math education.
D. To inspire more donations of teaching resources.
25. What is the key principle behind Hagan’s revolutionary teaching method?
A. Involve me and I learn. B. Teach others to teach yourself.
C. Learn and grow together. D. Seek truth from inner peace.
26. How does Sarah Hagan teach polynomials?
A. By using traditional textbooks. B. Through math speed-dating activities.
C. By inventing the grading system. D. Through office dialogues after class.
27. What is the best title of the text?
A. The Teacher Believing Math equals Love B. Teacher of Awesome: A Director of Vision
C. Talented Students Inspired D. DIY Math: The Rules Rewritten
B 25. A 26. B 27. A
根据第一段“In the quiet oil town of Drumright, Oklahoma — where the highway passes by empty shops and the population is just under 3,000-Sarah Hagan is rewriting the rules of math education.(在俄克拉何马州宁静的石油小镇Drumright,高速公路经过空荡荡的商店,人口不到3000人,Sarah Hagan正在改写数学教育的规则)”和第二段中“The 25-year-old teacher, who turned down opportunities in bigger cities, now spends her days in a once-worn-out classroom at Drumright High School, earning barely $30,000 a year.(这位25岁的教师拒绝了大城市的工作机会,现在在Drumright 高中一间破旧的教室里度过,每年只能挣3万美元)”可知,Hagan放弃大城市的工作机会选择来到Drumright高中工作,文章提及这里的条件简陋更加突出了Hagan作出这个选择的价值所在,故选B。
根据第三段中“This transformation mirrors her revolutionary approach to education — one that relies not only on textbooks but also on student-crafted learning journals filled with origami folds (折纸), hand-drawn diagrams, and lessons printed on rainbow-colored paper.(这种转变反映了她革命性的教育方法——不仅依赖于教科书,还依赖于学生自己制作的学习日志,里面有折纸、手绘图表和印在彩虹色纸上的课程)”和第四段中“Hagan’s classroom is full of unconventional energy: algebra becomes speed-dating as students pair up to name polynomials (多项式) and spaghetti strands (意大利面) demonstrate geometric principles. ‘She makes us forget we’re learning,’ says Jake Williams. Even math haters like Taylor Russell find themselves engaged: ‘This year, I actually love it.’(Hagan的课堂充满了非传统的活力:学生们结对命名多项式,而意大利面条展示几何原理,代数变成了速配。‘她让我们忘记了我们正在学习,’Jake Williams说。就连Taylor Russell这样讨厌数学的人也发现自己投入其中:‘今年,我真的很喜欢数学。’)”可知, Hagan革命性的教育方法的关键原则是让学生参与其中,然后从中学习,A项“让我参与,我方能学会”符合题意,故选A。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“algebra becomes speed-dating as students pair up to name polynomials (多项式) and spaghetti strands (意大利面) demonstrate geometric principles(学生们结对命名多项式,而意大利面条展示几何原理,代数变成了速配)”可知,Sarah Hagan用速配活动来教授多项式,故选B。
根据全文内容,结合第一段“In the quiet oil town of Drumright, Oklahoma — where the highway passes by empty shops and the population is just under 3,000-Sarah Hagan is rewriting the rules of math education.(在俄克拉何马州宁静的石油小镇Drumright,高速公路经过空荡荡的商店,人口不到3000人,Sarah Hagan正在改写数学教育的规则)”和最后一段中“In rare free moments, she shares her innovative methods through her blog, appropriately titled Math equals Love — a philosophy that continues to transform lives in this unlikely corner of rural Oklahoma.(在难得的空闲时间,她通过她的博客分享她的创新方法,恰当地命名为“数学等于爱”——这种哲学继续改变着俄克拉荷马州这个不太可能的农村角落的生活)”可知,文章主要介绍Sarah Hagan选择在条件落后的Drumright 高中担任数学老师,用创新的教学方法使学生爱上数学的故事,A项“相信数学等于爱的老师”最适合作为标题,故选A。

Scientists from the University of Florida (UF) have recently reported on the world’s largest nesting site for freshwater turtles (海龟).
Giant South American River Turtles are large turtles that live in rivers in South America. They get their name from the size of the adults, which can weigh over 135 pounds. These turtles are imperiled since they have to face people engaged in unlawful hunting of them for the sale of their meat and eggs, and the loss of their habitats. In July and August each year, female turtles gather in large numbers to nest in the sandbanks of the Guaporé River.
Scientists use drones (无人机) to count turtles by taking pictures from above, which are combined into a large, detailed image called orthomosaic. Counting the animals shown in an orthomosaic disturbs the animals less than having researchers walk through the area. However, the turtles often move around, so some may be counted more than once. Scientists marked 1,187 gathering turtles, did 4 daily full-coverage drone surveys (1,500 images each) for 12 days. Studying the marked turtles revealed 20% of walking turtles repeated in images. Then they built a mathematical model based on the new orthomosaic analysis to accurately estimate the sandbank’s turtle population.
Ground observers counted roughly 16,000 turtles. Orthomosaic reviewers (not accounting for animal movement or markings) counted about 79,000. With the new statistical models applied, the site’s turtle population was estimated at around 41,000. “These numbers vary greatly — a problem for conservationists,” UF researcher Ismael Brack said. “If scientists are unable to establish a precise count of individuals of a species, how will they know if the population is in decline or the protection works?”
The team plans to spend more to perfect their monitoring methods by conducting more drone flights. They detail ways to adapt and apply this technique to conservation efforts with other species that are monitored and surveyed using drone-obtained orthomosaics. “By combining information from multiple surveys, we can detect population trends, and we’ll know where to invest in conservation actions,” Brack said.
28. What does the underlined word “imperiled” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Threatened. B. Appreciated. C. Blamed. D. Identified.
29. What is the disadvantage of the previous orthomosaic?
A. It produced unclear images. B. It caused a double count.
C. It required too much time. D. It disturbed the turtles greatly.
30. What does Brack emphasize in paragraph 4?
A. The importance of accurate figures. B. The problem caused by varied data.
C. The failure of protection efforts. D. The equipment needed for observers.
31. What do the scientists think of their mathematical model?
A. It’s quite trendy. B. It’s easy to operate.
C. It’s too expensive. D. It’s worth promoting.
A 29. B 30. A 31. D
根据画线词下文“since they have to face people engaged in unlawful hunting of them for the sale of their meat and eggs, and the loss of their habitats(因为它们不得不面对那些非法捕猎它们(以获取其肉和蛋)的人,以及它们栖息地的丧失)”可知,这些龟面临非法捕猎和栖息地丧失的问题,因此,它们受威胁。 故选A。
根据第三段“However, the turtles often move around, so some may be counted more than once.(然而,这些龟经常四处游动,所以有些可能会被多次计数到)”以及第四段“Orthomosaic reviewers (not accounting for animal movement or markings) counted about 79,000. With the new statistical models applied, the site’s turtle population was estimated at around 41,000.(正射影像审查人员(未考虑动物的移动或标记情况)统计的数量约为79000只。而采用新的统计模型后,该区域的龟数量估计约为41000只)”可知,之前的正射影像存在重复计数的缺点。故选B。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“If scientists are unable to establish a precise count of individuals of a species, how will they know if the population is in decline or the protection works?(如果科学家无法准确统计出某一物种的具体数量,那他们又如何能判断该物种的种群数量是否在减少,或者保护措施是否有效呢?)” 故选A。
根据最后一段“They detail ways to adapt and apply this technique to conservation efforts with other species that are monitored and surveyed using drone-obtained orthomosaics.(他们详细介绍了如何运用这一技术,并将其应用于针对其他受监测和调查的物种的保护工作中,这些工作的数据来源是通过无人机获取的正射影像图)”可推知,科学家们认为他们的数学模型值得推广,因为它可以应用于其他物种的保护工作。故选D。

Modern lives often make people overeat. This usually happens during holidays, or when they’re stressed, like while preparing for exams. A study by Dr. Stephanic Kullmann’s team at the University of Tübingen, Germany, shows that even five days of overeating can cause big and lasting changes in brains of healthy young men.
The experiment had 29 male volunteers aged 19-27 with normal body weight. Volunteers were divided into two groups. The experimental group added 1,500 extra calories every day like chocolate bars and potato chips for five days, while the control group kept their normal diet. Researchers used whole-brain MRI to examine the brain insulin (胰岛素) activity. They also did blood tests and measured liver fat to check metabolic (代谢的) changes.
The results showed after only five days of over eating, volunteers developed more liver fat and showed changed insulin sensitivity in brain regions related to reward processing. In psychological tests, they became less sensitive to reward and more sensitive to punishment. Surprisingly, these changes happened without any big weight gain. This means that the brain reacts to what we eat before we see any physical changes. Dr. Kullmann said, “The speed of these neurological (神经系统的) changes surprised us — they are detectable before any visible weight changes.”
Perhaps the more worrying was the long-term effects. One week after volunteers returned to their normal diets, memory-related areas of the brain showed lower insulin sensitivity. The brain’s white matter, which helps the nerves talk to each other well, also showed changes. It appeared like those in fat people; raising important questions about how short-term overeating could lead to long-term health problems.
The study’s findings go against what we usually think about occasional overeating. It brought no big changes in weight but in brain, which might make it harder for people to eat healthily in the future. The reward system might create a vicious cycle where unhealthy foods become more attractive while healthy choices seem less rewarding. As Dr. Kullmann concludes, “Our brains are more sensitive to dietary changes than we realized— what we eat today may influence how we think and choose tomorrow.”
32. What did the researchers do in the experiment?
A. Grouping the volunteers by the body weight. B. Increasing the participants’ daily caloric intake.
C. Examining the participants’ physical changes. D. Recording the frequency of the brain activity.
33. What happened to the volunteers after five days of overeating?
A. They had an increase in fat. B. They were more interested in reward.
C. They gained significant weight. D. They showed changed reward processing.
34. What is the main idea of paragraph 4?
A. The brain’s white matter controls neural communication.
B. Short-term overeating has harmful long-term health effects.
C. Memory-related areas of the brain is less sensitive.
D. Fat people have similar brain changes.
35. What does the study suggest about occasional overeating?
A. It determines our future eating habits. B. It may cause a bad cycle of food choice.
C. It is harmless as there is no weight gain. D. It affects the brain temporarily.
C 33. D 34. B 35. B

This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library. It’s a collection that reflects my journey through the world of words.

These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.

根据前文“As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book.(作为一个热心的读者,我一直认为,了解世界的关键在于一本书的页面)”以及后文“They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library.(他们向我们介绍了一些和我们周围的人一样真实的人物。读者和文本之间的这种联系使文学如此强大,这也是我珍惜我的个人图书馆的原因)”可知,这里是在说我们读到的故事会给我们带来什么,所以F项“The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds.(我们读的故事塑造了我们的世界观,开阔了我们的视野)”承接上文,塑造了我们的世界观也就是上文提到的了解世界,并引出下文,符合文意。故选F项。
【37题详解】
根据前文“I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction.(我的藏书种类繁多,从古典文学到当代小说都有)”以及后文“Each type offers a different perspective, a new way of looking at life.(每种类型都提供了不同的视角,一种看待生活的新方式)”可知,这里是说不同类型的书教会我们不同的东西,所以B项“I believe in the power of variety.(我相信变化的力量)”承接上文,引出下文,符合文意。故选B项。
根据前文“Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell. Austen's sharp observations on society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell, on the other hand, offers a stark (冷峻的) view of the world.(我最喜欢的是简·奥斯汀和乔治·奥威尔的作品。奥斯汀对社会和人际关系的敏锐观察是永恒的。她的角色不完美,但很迷人。另一方面,奥威尔提供了一种冷酷的世界观)”可知,本段主讲简·奥斯汀和乔治·奥威尔,简·奥斯汀已讲完,空处结构应是作者对奥威尔作品的评价,所以D项“His stories are a warning and a call to action.(他的故事是一个警告,也是一个行动的号召)”符合文意,His stories指的就是奥威尔的作品。故选D项。
【39题详解】
设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Biographies (传记) and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.(传记和生平故事提供了对非凡人物生活的洞见。他们提醒我们,伟大有多种形式。阅读别人的奋斗和成功故事会给人以难以置信的鼓舞。它提醒我们,我们都有潜力做出改变。这些故事鼓励我反思自己的生活,以及我希望留下的东西)”可知,本段和上文呼应,上文提到作者喜欢的小说,本段为非小说书籍。所以A项“I also enjoy non-fiction.(我也喜欢非小说类作品)”符合文意,为本段中心句。故选A项。
设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“My library is a reflection of who I am. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty.(我的图书馆反映了我是什么样的人。这是我对学习的热爱和对了解世界的渴望的标志。每本书都是我探索之旅的垫脚石。它们是孤独时的伴侣,迷茫时的向导)”可知,此处讲述书籍对自己的帮助,所以E项“Through them, I continue to explore, to grow, and to dream.(通过它们,我继续探索、成长和梦想)”符合文意,为对前文的总结,在书籍的帮助下,作者继续前行。故选E项。

67. 读后续写
When I look back on my childhood, the first image that springs to my mind is the daisy (雏菊) kept in my dictionary, which always reminds me of my lunchtimes with my mother.
When I was in the third grade, I was picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had practised my lines (台词) so hard with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白) part to the play, and asked me to switch roles.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow daisies popping through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with a little bit of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the daisies. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, suddenly pulling a flower up by its roots. “From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like daisies,” I protested (抗议). “All flowers are beautiful——even daisies.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower has its own beauty, doesn’t it?” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, feeling pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added, “Not everyone can be a princess. Hence, there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had sensed my pain, I started to cry when I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

Paragraph 2:
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
“You will be a beautiful narrator,” she comforted. Upon hearing her comforting words, I held back my bitter tears, lost in deep thought. Hardly had she noticed the sadness on my face soften a little when she caressed my hair, adding, “No one is born to be a princess. Why not take advantage of narrator’s part?” With mother’s encouragement, I began to accept that the narrator’s part was of vital significance. In the following weeks, every lunchtime with my mother witnessed my mighty effort to practice my part of lines. So fast did time pass that the performance day arrived.
Paragraph 2:
Backstage on the night of the performance, I still felt nervous. Sweat oozing from my palms, it was at that very moment that I found a daisy in my pocket. In a flash, I realized my mother had passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me. Consumed with courage and confidence, I concentrated on my part and the performance turned out to be a great success, the audience standing up and bursting into thunderous applause. After the play, I put the daisy into my dictionary, which was a reminder of our precious lunchtimes, bathed in the soft midday light.

D
