When I entered junior high school, I was a quiet and shy boy. I didn’t dare to talk to strangers and spent most of my after-school time alone. That changed when I joined the School Hiking Club and it was an experience that turned my school life around.
One day, our class teacher introduced the Hiking Club to us. She said it was a great chance to get close to nature and make friends. On the first trip, we went to a mountain an hour’s drive from our school. The weather was perfect sunny and warm. Before we started, the club advisor Ms. Liu 18 us about safety rules including wearing comfortable shoes, carrying enough water and never leaving the group. During the hike, I fell behind because I wasn’t used to walking long distances. Jack noticed and slowed down to wait for me. He shared stories about his favorite hiking spots, and we soon found that we both loved astronomy. We talked about stars and planets all the way up the mountain, and I forgot how tired I was.
When we reached the top, the view took my breath away. We could see green forests and clear rivers stretching as far as the eye could see. We sat on the grass, shared snacks, and talked freely. I met other students who were friendly and easy to get along with. For the first time in months, I felt like I belonged 19 a group.
Since then, I’ve attended every club activity. We’ve cleaned up mountain trails, learned to identify different plants, and even had a campfire night. Each activity 20 me more confident. I used to be afraid of speaking in public, but last month, I volunteered to give a speech about our hiking trip at the school assembly. Now, I look forward to every Wednesday afternoon which is the day of the Hiking Club meeting. I know that each trip will bring new adventures and new memories. If you’re feeling lonely or want to try something new, I 24 you to join a school club. My Journey in the School Baking Club
When I first heard about the school Baking Club, I hesitated to join. I had never baked anything before and was afraid of making a mess. But my best friend Emma kept encouraging me, saying it would be fun to learn together. Finally, I decided to give it a try.
The club meets every Thursday afternoon in the school kitchen. Our advisor Ms. Brown used to be a professional baker. She teaches us patiently, starting from the basics. On the first day, we learned to make chocolate chip cookies. She showed us how to mix flour, sugar, butter and eggs in the right proportion. The right proportion here means the proper amount of each ingredient to mix together. At first, my dough was too sticky, and I added too much flour by mistake. Ms. Brown didn’t laugh at me. Instead, she helped me adjust the mixture and explained that baking is all about practice.
As weeks went by, I got better and better. We made all kinds of treats, including muffins, cupcakes, and even small cakes. I particularly loved making fruit tarts. Cutting fresh strawberries and arranging them on top of the tart crust felt like creating a piece of art. What surprised me most was that the club wasn’t just about baking. We also organized a charity sale last month. We baked dozens of cookies and cakes, and sold them at the school gate after class. The money we raised was donated to a children’s home in our city. When we visited the home and saw the kids enjoying our baked goods, I felt a strong sense of satisfaction.
Joining the Baking Club has changed me a lot. I’m no longer afraid to try new things. I’ve also learned the importance of teamwork when we baked for the charity sale, everyone divided the work and helped each other. Emma and I often bake together at home now, and my parents love tasting our creations. This experience has not only taught me a useful skill but also brought me happiness and new friendships. I’m so glad I didn’t let my fear stop me from joining.

Our School’s Fun Sports Day
Every June, our school holds a Sports Day that all students look forward to. It’s not just a day of competitions; it’s a day for families to come together and celebrate. Unlike regular sports events, Sports Day includes games for students, parents and even teachers. This year’s Sports Day was more exciting than ever.
The day started with an opening ceremony. All classes marched into the playground with colorful flags and loud cheers. Our principal gave a short speech, and the content was encouraging us to do our best and enjoy the day. After that, the competitions began. There were traditional races, such as 100-meter dash and relay races. But the most popular events were the fun games, including the sack race and the egg-and-spoon race.
In the sack race, participants stand inside a large sack and jump to the finishing line. It’s hilarious to watch people trying to balance and jump at the same time. I joined this event with my classmate Tom. At first, I kept falling down, but Tom shouted encouragement and I got back up. We didn’t win first place, but we laughed so hard that our stomachs hurt. My favorite event was the parent-child three-legged race. I teamed up with my dad. We practiced for weeks before Sports Day, and our hard work paid off we won second place! It was wonderful to run side by side with my dad and feel the support from the crowd.
Teachers also joined in the fun. They competed in a tug-of-war match against the sixth-grade students. Everyone cheered loudly for both teams. In the end, the teachers won, but the students were proud of putting up a good fight. There was also a picnic area where families shared food and drinks. My mom brought sandwiches and fruit, and we ate with Tom’s family. We talked about the games and laughed about the funny moments of the day.
Sports Day ended with a closing ceremony. The principal awarded medals to the winners, and he also said that everyone who took part was a winner. I couldn’t agree more. The Drama Club has taught me that it’s okay to be nervous, but you shouldn’t let fear stop you from trying new things. I’ve also made many good friends, including Lily. It’s okay to join a club even if you’re a beginner most clubs welcome new members and teach you everything you need to know.
Finally, talk to other students. Ask your classmates or friends about their experiences in different clubs. They can tell you what the club activities are like, how friendly the members are, and whether they think it’s worth joining. You can also talk to the club advisors to learn more about the club’s goals and activities.
Choosing the right school club can make your after-school life more meaningful and enjoyable. Remember, there’s no “perfect” club. The best club for you is the one that makes you happy and helps you grow. So take your time, think carefully, and don’t be afraid to try something new.
