Dove is a well-known chocolate brand, and there is a romantic story behind the name “Dove”. It was the spring of 1919, when Princess Charlotte from Luxembourg (卢森堡) married Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. It was such a big ceremony that Leon, a young cook, was very busy during that time. He had worked for such a long time that his hands were full of wounds. One day when he was washing the dishes, an angel voice came into his ears. “That hurts, doesn’t it?” This beautiful sound was made by Princess Bazzar who was a distant relative of Princess Charlotte. It was the first time these two youths met.
After that, they became very close soon. Leon made ice-creams for Princess Bazzar late at night. They ate ice-cream and talked with each other happily and fell in love with each other. However, due to the big gap of status (地位), neither of them showed the love in their heart.
But tragedies always happened to beloved ones. A few months later, Luxembourg decided to marry Princess Bazzar to a foreign prince. Leon was restless (焦躁不安的) when he heard the news. His last chance to contact Princess Bazzar was the ice-cream he made. So he used hot chocolate to write “Dove” on the ice-cream which stood for “Do you love me?” However, what Leon had not expected was that the hot chocolate made the ice-cream melt and when the ice-cream was served to Princess Bazzar, she could not figure out the letters on it. Leon missed the last chance. Leon deeply regretted it and he decided to make chocolate with “Dove” on every piece.

Mother’s Day is a holiday that celebrates and honors mothers in the United States. It is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. It became an official holiday in the country at the start of the 20th century as a way to honor mothers whose sons had died in war.
The holiday is celebrated in a number of ways. People give mothers gifts like flowers, cards, and jewelry to thank them for all their hard work. A popular symbol of the holiday is the carnation (康乃馨). This is because when the holiday first began in the U.S. People were encouraged to wear a red carnation if their mother was alive or a white carnation if their mother was dead. Many people take their mothers out for a special meal. Mother’s Day is also the most popular day to make long distance calls in the U.S. It is the second most popular gift-giving day after Christmas.
Since its establishment, Mother’s Day has been criticized (批判) for becoming highly commercialized (商业化). In fact, the founder of the U.S. holiday, Anna Jarvis, began protesting (抗议) the holiday and was even put in prison for disturbing the peace for the festive gathering. After seeing a Mother’s Day Salad on the menu in the John Wanamaker tearoom (茶馆) in Philadelphia in the early 1900s, she realized the day had become nothing but a marketing plan. Then she spent decades fighting a no-win battle to claim back the day as her own. Mothers are not the only people celebrated on this day. All mother figures including grandmothers, great-grandmothers, stepmothers, and foster mothers are honored on the holiday. Many other countries around the world have their own version of Mother’s Day.
28. When did Mother’s Day become an official holiday?
