Technology has done our world wonders: from development in medicine, travel, communication, to our day-to-day lives. It has undoubtedly changed the way our society works, and how we communicate with one another and ourselves. However, by completely welcoming technology as a part of everyday life, are we losing our ability to create?
Technology presents a new platform for creativity to exist on. Through technology, ideas can be set free and come to life in the physical world. We have the necessary tools for greater possibilities and new solutions. For example, businesses now have the opportunity to improve themselves more creatively through websites, film advertisements, social media or radio.
However, when we look more closely, it’s easy to notice some disadvantages. For example, many of us depend so heavily on automated calculations (自动计算) nowadays, rather than taking the time to work it out for ourselves. Another obvious situation is that a lot of people are spending too much time on screens. As a result, they are reducing the opportunities to come up with their own creations.
Is there a way to find a balance between technology and human creativity? I think so. It is simply a matter of making sure that creativity is not deterred by technology. The first way is to reduce our usage of digital devices (数字设备) by setting limits on when, where, and how long we use them, turning off the notifications (通知) on your phone, or putting your phone on “Do Not Disturb”. Once you become used to these, you will feel surprised how little you think about your phone.
Another wonderful way is to take daily walks in the nature. It can help you reset, re-balance, and keep going. In the long run, a daily walk can not only influence our creativity and imagination but further our physical and mental health. We can also develop our creativity by doing yoga, keeping a diary, or reading.
The key to the survival of our creativity starts with us. Will you put your phone away when spending time with friends? Will you try to find happiness and purpose outside of a screen? The action you choose to take will help change the relationship between creativity and technology for the better.
14.Why does the writer talk about businesses in paragraph 2?
A.To stress the importance of creativity.
B.To suggest good ways to develop technology.
C.To show the effect that technology has on creativity.
D.To explain the relationship between business and creativity.
15.What does the underlined word “deterred” mean in paragraph 4?
A.Examined. B.Controlled. C.Replaced. D.Prevented.
16.Which of the following does the writer most probably agree with?
A.Limiting the usage of our phones can help us to develop creativity.
B.Spending time on screens is the easiest way to keep people focused.
C.Turning off the notifications on the phone will make people worried.
D.A daily walk does more good to physical health than to mental health.
17.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Creativity in a World of Technology: Does It Exist?
B.Technology: How Does It Help to Develop Our Creativity?
C.Technology and Creativity: Which of Them Is More Important?
D.Technology and Creativity: How Do They Influence Each Other?
【答案】14.C 15.D 16.A 17.D
【难度】0.4
【知识点】议论文、科学技术、科普知识
【导语】本文主要讲述了科技和人类创造力的相互影响。
14. 细节理解题。根据“Technology presents a new platform for creativity to exist on. Through technology, ideas can be set free and come to life in the physical world. We have the necessary tools for greater possibilities and new solutions. For example, businesses now have the opportunity to improve themselves more creatively through websites, film advertisements, social media or radio.”可知,作者在第二段提到企业是为了展示技术对创造力的影响。故选C。
15.词义猜测题。根据和“As a result, they are reducing the opportunities to come up with their own creations.”可知,人们通过使用技术从而使自己减少了创作的机会,结合“Is there a way to find a balance between technology and human creativity? I think so. It is simply a matter of making sure that creativity is not deterred by technology.”可知,有办法在技术和人类创造力之间找到平衡,也就是确保创造力不被技术的阻碍。deterred的意思应为“阻止”。故选D。
16.推理判断题。根据“ The first way is to reduce our usage of digital devices (数字设备) by setting limits on when, where, and how long we use them, turning off the notifications (通知) on your phone, or putting your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’. Once you become used to these, you will feel surprised how little you think about your phone.”可知,限制手机的使用可以帮助我们培养创造力。故选A。
17.最佳标题。根据“Is there a way to find a balance between technology and human creativity?”可知,文章主要讲述了科技和人类创造力的相互影响。故选D。
C
The Nazca Lines (纳斯卡线条) in Peru are huge pictures that were drawn into the ground by digging shallow (浅的) lines into the earth. The pictures include birds, spiders, fish, etc.
Although these lines date back to between 500 BC and 500 AD, they were only discovered in the 1930s. The reason is that the pictures only become clear when they are seen from the air. So it was only when airplanes started flying over the area that people realized what they were.
How did these pictures get there? How could these people have made such drawings without the ability to fly? Jim Woodman guessed that the Nazca people could have invented simple hot-air balloons and used them to produce the art. Other people guessed the lines might be the work of aliens. More and more speculations were offered and one of the great modern mysteries was born.
However, some wooden sticks from the same age were found in the area. Some scientists suggested that by placing the sticks in the correct positions and connecting them with long ropes (绳子), the Nazca people could have made the pictures. Dr. Joe Nickell was so sure that this was the answer. He decided to use this way to draw a huge picture on a piece of land. And it really took him a few hours to produce a perfect picture and show how these pictures probably got there.
18.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.When the Nazca Lines were made.
B.How these huge pictures got there.
C.What tools the Nazca people might have had.
D.Why the lines weren’t discovered until the 1930s.
19.The underlined word “speculations” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.guesses B.services C.directions D.experiences
20.Dr. Joe Nickell surely thought ________.
A.the lines might be the work of aliens
B.the drawings might have formed naturally
C.the pictures might have been made with wooden sticks
D.hot-air balloons might have been used to draw the lines
21.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.How Aliens Drew B.The Magic Power of Nature
C.Amazing Animals in History D.One of the Great Modern mysteries
【答案】18.D 19.A 20.C 21.D
【难度】0.4

Shanya Gill is a 13-year-old girl from California, US. In April, 2024, she got a special invitation to visit the US Fire Administration’s Office with her father. There, they had a talk about fire control. They were invited because Gill made a new fire detector (探测器), which made her win the top prize in an international competition the year before they talk.
It all started with a big fire. When Gill was in Grade 6, the restaurant behind her house burned down. No one died, but the accident made Gill and her family feel afraid. “The restaurant had smoke detectors, but still, the restaurant could not be saved,” Gill said. “I came to realize that smoke detectors simply are not good enough and decided to make a better fire detector.”
She studied programming and made a system that can detect warm things with 98% accuracy (准确率). It detects hot ones with 97% accuracy and sends warnings to people. This is better than traditional smoke detectors which only have about 82% to 94% accuracy. Gill now hopes to share her invention with the world. She doesn’t want to patent (申请专利) it because she hopes everyone can use it. She wants it to save as many lives and buildings as possible. In fact, Gill is creating a website to share the system with the public.
“She’s offering a new solution to the world, which is an improved solution over what’s out there today,” said Mike Dugas, the director of research and development at Thermo Fisher Scientific.

A.In 2011. B.In 2017. C.In 2023. D.In 2024.

A.A broken fire detector. B.A big fire in a restaurant.

Baozi is one of the common Chinese foods for breakfast. Who would have thought that this simple meal would become a leading character in a film, and even win an Oscar?
On February 24, 2019, the short film Baozi won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. In the film, a small baozi comes to life and becomes the "son" of a lonely Chinese woman in an immigrant(移民) family in Canada.
Domee Shi, Pixar's first Chinese-Canadi woman director, got the idea from her own experience. When Shi grew up, she was busy working and spent little time with her mother.

Traditionally, Chinese parents don't say ‘I love you’ to their kids. They express it with food or by fussing(小题大做)over them. "I didn't use dialogue in the film because I wanted it to be a story that spoke to everyone around the world." said Shi at an interview.

Baozi tells the life of an empty-nest Chinese Canadian mother who feels lonely after her son leaves home to go for his own life.
In the film, many details show the way the Chinese woman loves her "son". She prepares delicious food, cleans up the house carefully and always buys him snacks. These details are true to the strong and protective love of Chinese parents for their children.
Traditionally, Chinese parents don't say ‘I love you’ to their kids. They express it with food or by fussing(小题大做)over them. "I didn't use dialogue in the film because I wanted it to be a story that spoke to everyone around the world." said Shi at an interview.
Moreover, this film can be a bridge to help parents and children better understand each other and learn how to express love.
54.Who is Domee Shi?
55.What details show the way the Chinese woman loves her "son" in the film?
56.Do you think it's necessary and important to say‘I love you’to your parents? Why or Why not?

Are there any effective ways to 5 China’s urban inhabitants from floods? In December, 2013, President Xi Jinping announced a “sponge city” program to 6 flooding in the cities. Sixteen cities were chosen as pilots (试点) for the national plan.
The sponge city program needs inspiration from similar projects in some developed countries. 7 , nothing at this scale (规模) has ever been tried. “The sponge city program is more comprehensive (全面的),” says Ha Wenmei, head of the China water management team at Arcadis, which is working on the program in Wuhan.
It has been 11 years since the sponge city program began, but it’s still too early to tell if it will be 8 . While the program is facing great challenges like the ever increasing urban population, it is seen as a 9 change. In the past, we used to just follow 10 national standards (标准).
