Late in 2020, at a two-hour televised musical competition in Beijing, when Gao's favorite idol(偶像) walked out, she could not afford to get too excited. She had to have her camera ready at all times to capture her idol's moment on stage: any distraction could ruin that one perfect shot. Then Gao began editing photos on the spot to perfect his images and quickly uploaded them to the platform Weibo.
There are lots of accounts like Gao's on social media, which aim to boost a certain star's influence and popularity through shares and comments. Such accounts are referred to as “image stations”, and the people who run them, like Gao, are called “station sisters”.
Gao was born into a wealthy family and attended university in Shanghai. Gao said to reporters that she was just a “regular” fan at first. “When I witnessed his charming stage presence in 2020 and his determination to make his dreams come true, I was instantly swept away,” Gao recalled. Soon after, she joined a dozen or so online fan groups and began brainstorming strategies to boost her idol's social media relevance. She searched forums and found posts by several station sisters in which they recounted their experiences. She decided to join their ranks.
Gao started by purchasing a Canon 5D4 SLR camera and a 100-400mm long-focus lens, spending over 30,000 yuan. After quickly mastering its basic functions and learning basic photography skills, she set off on her “job”. She spent a large amount of time tracking her idol's flight, photographing him, waiting outside hotels, purchasing products her idol endorsed(宣传), and even following him to another city.
At the time, she had little time to attend her courses. “I had taken many credits at school and was hoping to receive a postgraduate recommendation,” said Gao. Early in 2021, her academic setbacks as well as negative news about the fan industry brought Gao's return to reality. “I couldn’t believe what I had done. I decided it was time to live for myself,” she said. Seeing her idol no longer aroused the admiration it once did. Now, she has turned her past as a celebrity chaser into a new life explorer. She said to a friend, “Isn’t cheering our idols supposed to make us better people? All we need to do then is just rush ahead.”
36. What was Gao's purpose in going to that musical competition in Beijing?
A. To show off on social platforms.
B. To promote her idol’s public influence.
C. To experience the charm of a live show.
D. To get an autographed photo of her idol.
37. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. Gao's experience of becoming a station sister.
B. A brief introduction to Gao's after-school life.
C. A story about Gao's meeting with her idol.
D. Gao's memory of chasing her idol.
38. Which can best describe the life of Gao as a super fan?
A. Cost-effective and worthy. B. Bittersweet and beneficial.
C. Money-consuming and laborious. D. Challenging and enviable.
39 What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Gao’s idol fooled all his fans.
B. Gao's university studies ran smoothly.
C. Gao has persuaded many friends to quit their idols.
D. Gao has got herself back on track after going wrong.
40. What does the author intend to tell us in the text?
A. Don't let words of apology make up the most of your vocabulary.
B. Mend your way properly after being off the right path.
C. Striving for perfection makes you a boring person.
D. There is no such thing as a self-made person.
C
Robots in the art world are nothing new. In fact, for centuries, people have built robots as art objects, beginning with automatons (自动机器) — or simple machines that perform a series of movements — in ancient China and Japan. However, what’s different now is that artists and engineers are building robots that actually create art.
In 1973, British-born painter Harold Cohen wrote a computer program and called it AARON. At first, AARON only made simple outlines whose color and details Cohen would later add. Fifty years later, ARRON is able to paint people, landscapes and just about anything else a human could paint. So can AARON be called an artist or creative? In 2010, Cohen addressed these questions. He explained, “Although he wrote the initial computer code that ARRON follows, AARON can generate unlimited numbers of images.” So according to Cohen, the simple answer is yes — AARON is creative.
It’s not just paintings that robots are creating, though. Last year, a robot called Shimon released its first album on Spotify. Shimon began life as a simple robot marimba player. Over the years, however, it’s learned how to jam, with other musicians, write original songs and compose lyrics. Shimon does this by analyzing huge amounts of music — roughly 50,000 rock, jazz and hip-hop songs.
It may be cool to hear a song created by a robot, but is there any other reason to build robots that can play music? According to Gil Weinberg, one of Shimon’s creators, because the robot is capable of doing things that a real musician might not think of, he and his team “hope and believe that these new abilities would push human cooperators to new uncharted directions that could not be achieved in human-to-human cooperation.”
While questions about robots creating art are fun to think about, there are many other ways that robots can help artists in the way they create their works. For example, advancements in 3D-printing technology will allow artists to build more complex pieces for their sculptures.
41. What was AARON able to do at first?
A. Paint people and landscapes.
B. Prepare basic outlines for Cohen.
C. Draw pictures of itself and Cohen.
D. Color paintings under Cohen’s instructions.
42. What might be the biggest challenge of creating songs by a robot?
A. Analyzing huge amounts of music.
B. Composing lyrics.
C. Playing guitar.
D. New abilities to new uncharted directions.
43. What does the article tell us about Shimon?
A. It is both a marimba and guitar player.
B. It has created about 50000 original songs.
C. It is expected to push humans to achieve more.
D. Its creators hope that it can outperform humans.
44. What does the author’s attitude towards robots that create art?
A Positive. B. Worried. C. Neutral. D. Doubtful.
45. What could be the best title for the passage?
A. AARON and Shimon: Robots in Art
B. The Evolution of Robotics in the Real World
C. Programmed Creativity: Robots Redefining Art
D. How 3D Printing is Revolutionizing Art

五、阅读表达(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
When Brantley Harrison and her family rescued a tiny, injured squirrel back, then released her back into the wild, they didn’t expect to ever see her again. Nine years later, however, little Bella, they called the squirrel Bella, still comes to visit them almost every day—as long as snacks are provided, of course.
As a baby, the terrible attack made by an owl (猫头鹰) left Bella near death, she was carefully taken in by the Greenville County, South Carolina family, and raised by them alongside three other squirrels named Larry, Curly, and Moe. Bella stayed with the Harrisons until she had healed successfully thanks to a regular diet of fruit, nuts, and baby food, and was ready to jump on the trees in the forest. The sweet squirrel never goes too far from her adopted home, though, and stops by to say hello whenever she can, despite how much time has passed.
“Bella sits right at the front door waiting for someone to notice she has come by for a visit. If no one notices her, she will jump over to the dining room window to wait for someone to see her,” Brantley told The Dodo. The little lady just isn’t ready to part with the family that succored her life. Whenever she stops by, she asks for nothing more than a handful of nuts.
What is the most amazing part? A few years after Bella’s original stay at the Harrison house, she found her way back to them with an injured foot—and a belly full of babies—spending another few months of recovering. “It was truly amazing to watch the baby I raised raise her own babies,” Brantley said. Bella now even has her own Instagram page, where her human family documents her adventures, with almost 4 thousand followers!

The student union organized a labour practice activity on April 20, aiming to broaden our horizons and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience. This activity not only enhanced our practical skills but also fostered a deeper understanding of society.
The unforgettable experience was a labor-themed activity where we visited a local carpentry workshop. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the skilled carpenters who showed us around the workshop. We observed various woodworking tools and watched as they transformed raw wood into beautiful pieces of furniture. The highlight of the day was when we got to try our hand at basic woodworking tasks under the guidance of the experienced craftsmen. It was challenging yet rewarding to create something with our own hands.
This activity taught me the value of hard work and gave me a newfound respect for laborers.
