B
I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. She had just moved to the neighborhood and her grandmother brought her down to meet me. I hid behind my mother and she hid behind her grandmother, scared of looking at each other.
Soon, we lost the shyness and started playing with each other, riding bikes to each other’s house and having sleepovers. In 7th grade she was going through family problems. However, every summer we would sit at each other’s house, watch movies on TV and talk about all the boys we liked.
It was last year that I noticed the problem. She suffered from clinical depression (临床抑郁症), and had to go to a hospital during the day. I was very sorry for her at first. But with the late night calls and meeting each other halfway up the street at midnight, we still stayed in touch. I wanted to be there for her since her new best friend left her, and I knew I still cared about her like a sister.
Yesterday she came to me and said, “I never knew what a best friend was until you were the only person that would stop me from cutting myself and that ever made me feel better about myself and my problems. You didn’t know this but I was trying to kill myself that very night you called me and I was crying. I owe you so much, and you didn’t even know you were helping me. ”
We both cried. And I guess a kind of lesson from my life so far is to never give up your friends. Even if they aren’t as cool as others, or people think they are crazy, they need someone there. If you leave them, you will only be very sorry. So if your friends need you, and you care about them, you should be always there for them.
24. Why did the two girls hide behind their family members when they first met?
A. Because they were playing a game. B. Because they didn’t like each other.
C. Because they quarreled before. D. Because they were both shy.
25. What’s the problem of my best friend?
A. family problems B. having difficulty in studying
C. clinical depression D. bad relationship with classmates
26. What would have happened to her friend if the author had not cared about her?
A. She would have lost her new best friend.
B. She would have killed herself that night.
C. She would have run away from her family.
D. She would have stayed in hospital for a long time.
27. What lesson can we learn from the story?
A Always care about your friends. B. Don’t care about others’ opinions.
C. Never owe your friends too much. D. Try to be as cool as others.
C
It may come as a shock to owners, but dogs hate being hugged, a study has shown.
Animal psychologists say dogs feel stressed and unhappy when they are hugged by their owners, because it stops them being able to run away.
In a study which analyzed 25 pictures of dogs as they were being hugged, eight out of ten animals looked clearly uncomfortable.
Experts at The Kennel Club and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, also agreed that owners should not treat their dogs like children, because most pets did not like to be hugged.
The new study was carried out by Dr Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia. He analysed images of dogs being hugged by adults and children he found on the Internet, looking for signs of stress.
At an extreme end, when a dog is especially anxious it shows its teeth or may bite, but Dr Coren said there are other signs that it may be uncomfortable but they are small and not obvious.
Signs of stress include the dog folding its ears down, half- moon eyes or turning its head away to avoid eye contact. If the dog has its eyes closed, it could also be a sign of anxiety. Open its mouth or raising one paw is another warning sign.
“The clear suggestion to come out of this research is to save your hugs for your two- footed family members and lovers.”
It is clearly better from the dog’s point of view if you express your fondness for your pet with a pat, a kind word, rand maybe a treat.
Some people think that giving their dog a hug is a nice thing to do, but the reality is that a family pet will often tolerate a hug but doesn’t like it.
“On the whole dogs are sociable animals and love communicating with people, but any action that restricts a dog’s movement could make them uncomfortable and it is important for an owner to recognize the signs of stress or anxiety.”
28. According to the study, what might a dog not feel when it is being hugged?
A. Stressed. B. Uncomfortable. C. Shocked. D. Unhappy.
29. Which of the following is not the sign of stress for dogs?
A. Showing its teeth. B. Folding its ears down.
C. Raising one paw. D. Keeping eye contact.
30. According to the passage, what are dog owners suggested to do?
A. Hug their family members more. B. Stop touching their dogs.
C. Stop treating their dogs as friends. D. Leave their dogs alone.
31. What’s the main idea of this passage?
A. A study shows that dogs hate being treated like children.
B. A study tells owners that dogs dislike being hugged.
C. A study teaches owners how to treat a stressed dog.
D. A study teaches owners how to recognize an uncomfortable dog.
D
Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life. Friendship usually develops during childhood. New friends are made when you are at school. Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long. Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and sense of responsibility(责任). A familiar opinion is “You can tell a lot about a person by knowing who his friends are.” Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.
Some people call you their friends for the wrong reasons. These people are not really friends. They are superficial(表面的)only “friends” on the outside, not the inside where it counts. Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage. True friends are there whether you are rich or poor. It is easy to have many so-called “friends” if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”.
True friends are most special. Sometimes they might not easy to find, so you can consider yourself very lucky if you have one true friend. This friend is eager to help you whenever necessary. He or she knows you would do the same for them. A true friend is someone you can talk to about any subject or problem. You and your true friend have good understanding of each other. True friends support you, take your side, and build up your confidence.
32. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. How to make true friends. B. What is friendship based on.
C. We should make friends in our childhood. D. Friends play a very important role in our life.
33. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. It is easy to have many true friends if you are rich.
B. If you have no music in you, one of your friends will be a music lover.
C. The friendship developing during your school days will be with you for a long time.
D. What you value above anything is the friendship developing during childhood.
34. What does the underlined phrase “so-called ‘friends’” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Friends in need. B. Fair-weather friends.
C. Those who can help you. D. Those who often gives you money.
35. What’s the author’s attitude towards “true friends” according to paragraph 3?
A. True friends are too difficult to find. B. You can only share sadness with a true friend.
C. You can simply share happiness with a true friend. D. True friends will stand by you whatever happens.

Five years ago, I had a nine-to-five job, and I usually commuted (通勤) to work by bus. Those long tiring hours of travelling were always annoying. But one day, it was healing.
It was a warm March evening, and I’d just taken a seat on the bus that would take me home. I sat in the third row, by the window, on the driver’s side. It was nearly 6:00 p.m., but the bus was not yet full and the driver gave no signs that he intended to get the bus on the road anytime soon.
A middle-aged woman took a seat opposite me. She was crying. Not speaking to anyone in particular, she tearfully told her story.
She had come to the city to visit her daughter. On the way to the last stop, a thief had stolen one of her bags. It had contained half of the money she’d brought with her. The other half was rolled in a handkerchief and hidden under her blouse, so she fortunately still had some money left.
The bus conductor, driver, and other passengers listened to her story. After a few minutes, she stopped crying, took out some cheese bread from her bag, and began to eat, looking still worried.
An old man in tattered (破旧的) clothes got on the bus. He sat in the seat directly in front of the woman.
After a few minutes, all seats were taken. The driver got behind the wheel and started the engine. The bus conductor collected tickets and began asking us where we were getting off. When he came to the old man’s seat, he became doubtful and asked the old man whether he had any money. The old man admitted that he did not. He explained that he had spent all his money this morning when he’d accidentally got on the wrong bus and now he was trying to go home.

26 What would have happened to her friend if the author had not cared about her?
A. She would have lost her new best friend.
B. She would have killed herself that night.
C. She would have run away from her family.
D. She would have stayed in hospital for a long time.
27. What lesson can we learn from the story?
A. Always care about your friends. B. Don’t care about others’ opinions.
C. Never owe your friends too much. D. Try to be as cool as others.
D 25. C 26. B 27. A

Experts at The Kennel Club, and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, also agreed that owners should not treat their dogs like children, because most pets did not like to be hugged.
C A study teaches owners how to treat a stressed dog.
D. A study teaches owners how to recognize an uncomfortable dog.

D 33. C 34. B 35. D
根据文章第一段“Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life.(朋友在每个人的生活中扮演着非常重要的角色。)”以及“Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and sense of responsibility(责任).(朋友影响你的发展、成熟和责任感。)”
根据文章第一段“Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long.(那些你在学生时代交的朋友通常可以持续很长时间。)”以及“Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.(友谊是以共同的兴趣为基础的。
根据文章第二段划线词之前“Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage.(肤浅的朋友只有在对他们有利的情况下才愿意和你做朋友。)”以及划线词之后“if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”.(如果你很富有,到这个时候,你应该能够认出你的朋友是真的还是“假的”。)”
根据文章第三段“True friends are most special.

注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.续写部分分为两段, 每段的开头语已为你写好;

The woman seated behind the old man was also listening and observing the whole thing.

Paragraph 1:
Upon hearing this, the bus conductor ordered the old man to get off the bus. The old man didn’t move. He was almost in tears as he begged the bus conductor to let him take the bus so he could get home before dark. The bus driver, who had been listening to his explanation, stood up, walked to the old man, and repeated the conductor’s order to ask the old man to get off the bus. Apart from the harsh words from the driver and sobs from the old man, the whole bus was in a terrible silence.
Paragraph 2:
The woman seated behind the old man was also listening and observing the whole thing. When the bus driver and conductor raised their voices at the old man, she shouted, “Stop bothering him! Can’t you see he’s only trying to get home?” “He doesn’t have any money!” the driver shouted back. “Well, that’s no reason to throw him off the bus,” she insisted. Meanwhile, she reached inside her blouse, took out her remaining money, and handed the fares to the conductor. “Here is his fare and mine. Just stop giving him a hard time.” How much sweet the journey was when we made it easy for others!
靠近:walk to/approach
回家:get home /go back home
喊叫:shout/ yell
