Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It was like I’d been at the school for a hundred years! The day started very early at 7: 00 am. If they didn’t love me, mom said to send them her way for a good talking to. I couldn’t stop laughing. My mom dropped me off at the school gates about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail and we rushed to the classroom together. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey. Umapathy makes beautiful crafts out of biodegradable (可生物降解的) materials like bamboo, dried leaves, seeds, roots, branches, vegetable waste, and so on. This way, he integrates sustainability into his creations, leaving a continuing impact on his students. While growing up, Umapathy was inspired by his father, a government school teacher and expert weaver (编织者). “He spent most of his evenings engaging in weaving. I would observe him and eventually developed an interest in the colours, designs and the art,” recalls Umapathy. While working at the government school, it took Umapathy some time to excite the interest of the students. He experimented with different arts and crafts using a variety of materials. “That’s when a big realization struck me. Most of the students at my school weren’t able to afford the materials or equipment to create craftwork. I decided to choose to take natural materials, which are available for free,” he says. This move made the students more interested in the craft than before. With his guidance, they were convinced that they could make wonders even out of waste materials. Now the school exhibits over 300 pieces of artwork, all created by the students over the years, on its walls. “I’m only giving wings to their imagination,” says Umapathy with a smile. The craft has also aided several students from poor families to support their financial and educational needs. The students, with the help of Umapathy, have saved their earned income for their education. Several students have pursued their studies in fine arts with the income. One such student, Tamilselvan, completed his graduation in arts and has followed the path of his master to become an art teacher. 1.Which word best describes Umapathy’s craftwork? A.Cheap. B.Traditional. C.Environment-friendly. D.Fashionable. 2.What did Umapathy usually do when he was young? A.Received art training. B.Watched his father weaving. C.Collected natural waste. D.Learned weaving from his father. 3.Why does Umapathy choose natural materials for his students? A.They can be found everywhere. B.They are perfect for arts and crafts. C.They can fire students’ imagination. D.They are easily accessible at no cost. 4.What did Tamilselvan gain from Umapathy’s practice? A.He made money to pursue his studies. B.He got inspiration for his own exhibitions. C.He achieved his dream to be an art teacher. D.He received financial aid from an art school. 根据第二段“Umapathy makes beautiful crafts out of biodegradable (可生物降解的) materials like bamboo, dried leaves, seeds, roots, branches, vegetable waste, and so on. This way, he integrates sustainability into his creations, leaving a continuing impact on his students. (Umathy用竹子、干树叶、种子、根、树枝、蔬菜废料等可生物降解的材料制作出美丽的工艺品。通过这种方式,他将可持续性融入了自己的创作中,给他的学生留下了持续的影响。)”可知,Umathy制作出的工艺品都是很环保的。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“He spent most of his evenings engaging in weaving. I decided to choose to take natural materials, which are available for free (我学校的大多数学生都买不起制作工艺品的材料或设备。我决定选择免费的天然材料)”可知,Umathy选择天然材料给学生们用,因为它们是免费的。故选D。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The craft has also aided several students from poor families to support their financial and educational needs. The students, with the help of Umapathy, have saved their earned income for their education. Several students have pursued their studies in fine arts with the income. One such student, Tamilselvan, completed his graduation in arts and has followed the path of his master to become an art teacher. (该工艺还帮助了几名来自贫困家庭的学生,以满足他们的经济和教育需求。在Umathy的帮助下,学生们把挣来的收入存起来用于教育。几个学生带着收入继续学习美术。塔米尔塞尔万就是这样一位学生,他完成了艺术专业的毕业,并沿着硕士的道路成为了一名艺术老师。)”可知,塔米尔塞尔万在Umathy的帮助下,把挣来的收入存起来用于学习。故选A。 话题2 做人与做事 Passage 5 (24-25高一上·四川南充·月考)When I was young, I loved paper cutting and I was pretty good at it. As I grew up, I became busy and didn’t have much time for it. Later, I stopped doing it. However, the news I came across online touched my heart and changed my mind. A little girl from Jieyang, Guangdong was practicing lion dance when a professional lion dance performance team (专业舞狮表演队) passed by. As soon as they saw the girl practicing, they started to beat drums and gongs for her and quickly she did a lion dance in return. People around all cheered for her. Her love for the ancient Chinese culture evoked my strong memories of paper cutting. I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club. When I was ten, I joined the paper cutting club. Every Monday and Friday, I learned to make paper cuttings there. Our teacher, Ms. Li, was very talented. With a pair of scissors and a piece of paper, she could create lively works (作品). That amazed us. And we learned much from her. Together, we created lots of works. They covered many topics, including animals, flowers and things about Chinese history. Every time we held a paper cutting show, our works attracted many visitors. The girl in the news encouraged me to go on with paper cutting. I want to be an inheritor (继承者) of the ancient Chinese culture. Together with other inheritors, I hope to pass down our excellent culture. 1.What did the girl do after the team began to beat drums and gongs for her? A.She watched their show carefully. C.The writer’s happy times of making paper cuttings. D.The writer’s plans for setting up a paper cutting club. 4.Which of the following is TRUE? A.The writer wasn’t good at paper cutting at a young age. B.Now the writer practices paper cutting twice a week. C.The writer hopes to be an inheritor of paper cutting. D.After watching the news, the writer decided to learn lion dance. 第二段提到“As soon as they saw the girl practicing, they started to beat drums and gongs for her and quickly she did a lion dance in return.”(他们一看到女孩在练习,就开始为她敲锣打鼓,很快她就跳了一个舞狮作为回报。) 划线词后第三段提到“I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club.”(我记得在俱乐部里和老师、朋友们一起做剪纸的快乐时光。) A. brought back使回忆起;B. took away拿走;C. cut off切断;中断;D. depended on依靠。 故选A。 3. 第三段提到“I remembered the happy times of making paper cuttings with my teacher and friends in the club.”(我记得在俱乐部里和老师、朋友们一起做剪纸的快乐时光。) 文章最后一句提到“I want to be an inheritor (继承者) of the ancient Chinese culture. That conversation stayed with him. A few years later, Brad decided to take a weekend road trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and asked Grandma if she'd like to join him. Thankfully, his grandmother jumped at the chance. At 85, she saw her first mountain, climbed her first mountain and went camping for the first time. While he knew that the fun might be ravaged when he travelled with an elderly person, Brad quickly found that this wasn't the case. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It made the experience of being in the great outdoors much richer because having to move more slowly meant he was able to take everything in in a more meaningful way. The first trip planted a seed of joy inside Brad that had been missing, and he was excited to see how much Grandma had enjoyed the experience. Keen to keep their adventure going, the pair made a plan to travel to the other 62 US National Parks together. Such a challenge would be a huge achievement for most hikers, let alone an elderly woman with limited hiking experience, so they decided to take their time with it. It took them nearly eight years to do it. Brad said that the lens through which grandma was seeing the world was very different from most people of his age because she didn't visit a site thinking, "Well, I'll be back again," so there was more presence. After reaching their final stop, the National Park of American Samoa in the South Pacific, in 2023, they became closer than ever and eventually decided on trying to travel to every continent (大陆) in the world. 1.What made Brad Ryan take his grandma on a trip? A.His love for travelling. B.His hope of building up their relationship. C.His grandma's dream of climbing mountains. D.His grandma's regret of never seeing a mountain. 2.What does the underlined word "ravaged" in paragraph 3 mean? A.Ruined. B.Valued. C.Questioned. D.Forgotten. 3.How did Brad Ryan deal with the difficulty in hiking with his grandma? A.By going to fewer destinations. B.By travelling much more slowly. C.By planning more short-distance trips. D.By visiting a place more than once. 4.What does Brad and his grandma's experience show? A.Teaching is learning. B.Knowledge is power. C.Practice makes perfect. D.Better late than never. 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了布拉德带从未见过山的奶奶旅行,两人共同游览了美国62座国家公园并计划环游世界的故事。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“he learned that his grandmother Joy Ryan had never set eyes on a mountain, which was one of her lifelong regrets. That conversation stayed with him. (他得知奶奶乔伊·瑞安从未见过山,这是她一生的遗憾之一。这段对话一直萦绕在他心头)”可知,奶奶“从未见过山的遗憾”促使布拉德带她出行。故选D项。 2.词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“While he knew that the fun might be ravaged when he travelled with an elderly person, Brad quickly found that this wasn't the case. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It made the experience of being in the great outdoors much richer because having to move more  slowly meant he was able to take everything in in a more meaningful way. (虽然他知道和老人一起旅行可能会ravaged乐趣,但布拉德很快发现情况并非如此。事实上,恰恰相反。这让他在户外的体验更加丰富,因为他不得不放慢脚步,这意味着他能够以更有意义的方式接受一切)”可知,“ravaged”与后文“much richer”形成对比,应表示“破坏、毁掉”之意。故选A项。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“It made the experience of being in the great outdoors much richer because having to move more slowly meant he was able to take everything in in a more meaningful way. (这让他在户外的体验更加丰富,因为他不得不放慢脚步,这意味着他能够以更有意义的方式接受一切)”以及第五段中的“Such a challenge would be a huge achievement for most hikers, let alone an elderly woman with limited hiking experience, so they decided to take their time with it. Passage 7 (24-25高一下·广西河池·阶段练习)Work is a part of living - my grandparents understood that. They lived and worked on a central Pennsylvania farm that has been in my family for 150 years. Hess Farm, at that time, was self-sufficient. They kept dairy cows for milk and the cream from which Grandma made butter and cheese. Beef cattle were raised for meat, chickens for eggs and hogs for pork and lard. The little yard they had became a vegetable garden. The Depression, therefore, didn’t make a dramatic change in their lives. But it did bring an unending flow of men out of work, drifting from job to job, to the farm. The first man to show up on the kitchen porch (门廊) looked like a beggar (乞讨者), but polite. He took off his hat and quietly explained that he hadn’t eaten for a while. Grandpa stood watching him a bit and then said, “There’s a pile of firewood stacked against the fence behind the barn. I’ve been needing to get it moved to the other side of the fence. You have just about enough time to finish the job before lunch.” Grandma said a surprising thing happened. The man got a shine in his eyes and smiled. He hurried to the barn. She set another place at the table and baked an apple pie. During lunch, the stranger didn’t say much, but when he left, his shoulders had straightened. “Nothing ruins a man like losing his self-respect,” Grandpa later told me. Soon after, another man showed up asking for a meal. This one was dressed in a suit and carried a small suitcase. Grandpa looked at the man and said exactly the same words. The fellow put down his suitcase at the edge of the porch and neatly laid his coat on top. Then he set off to work. Grandma says she doesn’t remember how many strangers they shared a meal with during those Depression days or how many times that stack of wood got moved. 1.Why the Depression didn’t change the author’s grandparents’ life much? A.Because they lived a very poor life before. B.Because they didn’t care about the Depression. C.Because they could meet their own needs on the farm. D.Because they received much help from the government. 2.What does the underlined phrase “drifting from job to job” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Having no jobs at all. B.Jumping from job to job. C.Being unable to work. D.Looking for jobs actively. 3.Why did the grandpa ask the two men to move the wood? A.To let them earn their meals. B.To test their physical strength. C.To keep them away from the house. D.To finish his job of moving the wood. 4.Which of the following can best describe the grandpa? A.Concerned and lazy. B.Rude and hard-working. C.Warm-hearted and wise. D.Generous and impatient. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.C 【导语】这是一篇记叙文,文章主要讲述了作者祖父母在宾夕法尼亚州中部农场的生活,以及大萧条时期他们帮助失业者的故事。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Hess Farm, at that time, was self-sufficient. They kept dairy cows for milk and the cream from which Grandma made butter and cheese. Beef cattle were raised for meat, chickens for eggs and hogs for pork and lard. The little yard they had became a vegetable garden.(当时,赫斯农场是自给自足的。他们养奶牛获取牛奶和奶油,奶奶用奶油制作黄油和奶酪。养肉牛是为了吃肉,养鸡是为了取蛋,养猪是为了获取猪肉和猪油。他们的小院子变成了一个菜园。)”可知,祖父母能够在农场满足自己的需求,所以大萧条没有对他们的生活造成很大改变。故选C。 2.词句猜测题。根据第二段中根据划线词前“But it did bring an unending flow of men out of work(但它确实带来了源源不断的失业人口)”和后文“to the farm(去了农场)”可知,大萧条带来了源源不断失业的人,他们从一份工作换到另一份工作,最后来到了农场,“drifting from job to job”意思是“频繁跳槽”。 “Jumping from job to job”同样表达了从一个工作跳到另一个工作的意思。故选B。 3.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Nothing ruins a man like losing his self-respect(没有什么比失去自尊更能毁掉一个人了)”以及爷爷让他们通过搬运木材来换取食物,可知爷爷是想让他们通过劳动来挣得这顿饭,维护他们的自尊。故选A。 4.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Grandpa stood watching him a bit and then said, ‘There’s a pile of firewood stacked against the fence behind the barn. I’ve been needing to get it moved to the other side of the fence. You have just about enough time to finish the job before lunch.’(爷爷站在那里看了他一会儿,然后说:‘谷仓后面的篱笆旁堆着一堆柴火。我一直想把它搬到围栏的另一边。你有足够的时间在午饭前完成这项工作。’)”和文章内容可知,爷爷收留那些失业的人,让他们通过劳动换取食物,既帮助了别人,又维护了别人的自尊,这体现了爷爷热心肠且明智。“Warm-hearted and wise”准确地描述了爷爷的特点。故选C。 Passage 8 (25-26高一上·河北唐山·阶段练习)Teens with dominant (占主导地位的) friends are at higher risk for mental health problems, according to a new research republished from The Conversation. Dominant friends often control decision-making power. They can also control others’ behavior, like by making the junior friend go to a party they don’t want to attend. Friendships are extremely important relationships for teens, but are they always a positive influence? Some psychology researchers were interested in the potential (潜在的) psychological results of having dominant friends. They predicted (预测) that being part of this kind of friendship might make teenagers feel useless or anxious. To investigate it, 388 teenagers were surveyed at U.S. high schools five times across one year. Each time, teen participants were asked to answer questions about their close friends’ dominating behaviors: Do they make all the decisions? Do they always get their way? Consistent with researchers’ predictions before, they found that when teenagers felt powerless in their close friendships — like their friends always made the decision — they experienced lower self-value and more symptoms (症状) of depression or anxiety. Although some teens might be OK going with the flow and letting their friends take control, the study found some of the first evidence that this kind of unequal relationship can be psychologically harmful. Healthy friendships should offer both partners opportunities to have a say and make decisions. The findings suggest that it’s important to teach teens how to form healthy, fair friendships. One friend shouldn’t always feel bossed around or powerless. Also, teenagers may benefit from receiving help in developing effective communication tools for asserting (坚持主张) their wants and needs to their close friends. 1.Which kind of person below is probably a dominant friend? A.One who knows how to make decisions. B.One who is willing to respect friends’ needs. C.One who always asks friends to buy food for him. D.One who attends the party his friend doesn’t want to. 2.How might most teens with dominant friends feel? A.Lonely. B.Worthless. C.Positive. D.Self-respected. 3.Based on the findings, what is necessary in forming healthy friendships for teenagers? A.Allowing one friend to always make the decisions. B.Ensuring that one friend always feels powerless. C.Having friendships where one partner feels bossed (发号施令) around. D.Having equal chances to express their opinions and contribute to decision-making. 4.What might the researchers suggest teens with dominant friends do? A.Express their own needs firmly. B.Take back control of the relationship. C.End the friendship with dominant friends. D.Go with the flow and let dominant friends take control. 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讨论了具有强势朋友的青少年可能面临更高的心理健康问题风险,并阐述了健康友谊的重要性及建议。 1.推理判断题。根据第二段“Dominant friends often control decision-making power. They can also control others’ behavior, like by making the junior friend go to a party they don’t want to attend. (强势的朋友往往掌控着决策权。他们还能操控他人的行为,例如迫使地位较低的朋友参加本不愿出席的聚会)”可知,强势的朋友会控制他人行为,如迫使朋友参加不想参加的聚会。C项“One who always asks friends to buy food for him.(总是要求朋友给他买食物的人)”也体现了控制他人行为的特点,符合强势朋友的特征。故选C项。 2.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Friendships are extremely important relationships for teens, but are they always a positive influence? Some psychology researchers were interested in the potential (潜在的) psychological results of having dominant friends. They predicted (预测) that being part of this kind of friendship might make teenagers feel useless or anxious.(友谊对青少年而言是极为重要的人际关系,但这种影响是否始终积极?一些心理学研究者对拥有强势朋友可能带来的心理影响产生兴趣。他们预测,处于这类友谊中或使青少年产生无用感或焦虑情绪)”和第五段“Consistent with researchers’ predictions before, they found that when teenagers felt powerless in their close friendships — like their friends always made the decision — they experienced lower self-value and more symptoms (症状) of depression or anxiety. (与研究人员此前的预测一致,他们发现,当青少年在亲密的友谊中感到无力时——比如他们的朋友总是做决定——他们的自我价值感会更低,抑郁或焦虑的症状也会更多)”可知,大多数有强势朋友的青少年可能自我价值感会更低,会感到自己没用。故选B项。 3.细节理解题。根据第六段“Although some teens might be OK going with the flow and letting their friends take control, the study found some of the first evidence that this kind of unequal relationship can be psychologically harmful. Healthy friendships should offer both partners opportunities to have a say and make decisions. (尽管部分青少年或许不介意顺其自然、任由朋友主导,但这项研究首次发现:这种不平等的关系可能造成心理创伤。健康的友谊应当让双方都拥有发言权和决策空间)”可知,青少年建立健康友谊的必要条件是让双方都拥有发言权和决策空间,即双方都有平等的机会表达意见并参与决策。故选D项。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The findings suggest that it’s important to teach teens how to form healthy, fair friendships. One friend shouldn’t always feel bossed around or powerless. Also, teenagers may benefit from receiving help in developing effective communication tools for asserting (坚持主张) their wants and needs to their close friends. (研究结果表明,教会青少年如何建立健康、公平的友谊是很重要的。一个朋友不应该总是感到被指使或无力。此外,青少年可能会从接受帮助中受益,开发有效的沟通工具,向亲密的朋友表达自己的愿望和需求)”可推知,研究人员建议青少年应学会如何建立健康、公平的友谊,包括向朋友坚定地表达自己的需求和愿望。故选A项。 话题3 运动与健康 Passage 9 (23-24高一上·广东佛山·开学考试)You may think that sailing is a difficult sport, but it is really not hard to learn it. You do not need to be strong. But you need to be quick. And you need to understand a few basic rules about the wind. First, you must ask yourself, “Where is the wind coming from? Is it coming from ahead or behind or from the side?” You must think about this all the time on the boat. The wind direction tells you what to do with the sail. Let’s start with the wind blowing from behind. This means the wind and the boat are going in the same direction. Then you must always keep the sail outside the boat. It should be at a 90° angle to the boat. Then it will catch the wind best. If the wind is blowing from the side, it is blowing across the boat. In this case, you must keep the sail half way outside the boat. It should be at a 45°angle to the boat. It needs to be out far enough to catch the wind, but it shouldn’t flap (摆动). It shouldn’t look like a flag on a flagpole. If it is flapping, it is probably out too far, and the boat will slow down. Sailing against the wind is not possible. If you try, the sail will flap and the boat will stop. You may want to go in that direction. It is possible, but you can’t go in a straight line. You must go first in one direction and then in another. This is called tacking (抢风行驶). When you are tacking, you must always keep the sail inside the boat. 1.What should you consider first while sailing? A.Sailors’ strength. B.Wave levels. C.Wind directions. D.Size of sails. 2.What does the word “It” underlined in Paragraph 4 refer to? A.The boat B.The wind. C.The sail. D.The angle. 3.What do you have to do when sailing against the wind? A.Move in a straight line. B.Allow the sail to flap. C.Lower the sail. D.Tack the boat. 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了帆船运动的一些常识,就帆船顺风、侧风和逆风行驶进行了详细的阐述。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段“First, you must ask yourself, ‘Where is the wind coming from? Is it coming from ahead or behind or from the side?’ (首先,你要问自己:‘风从哪里来? 它是从前面、后面还是侧面来的?’)” 可知,航行时,首先要考虑风向。故选C项。 2.词义猜测题。根据第四段划线词前面的句子“you must keep the sail half way outside the boat. (你必须把帆的一半放在船外)”可知,这里的it指代前面的风帆 (the sail)。故选C项。 3.细节理解题。从最后一段“You must go first in one direction and then in another. This is called tacking (抢风行驶). (你必须先朝一个方向走,然后再朝另一个方向走。这被称为抢风行驶。)”可知,逆风航行时你必须使船转向。 tack the boat意为“改变船航向”。故选D项。 Passage 10 Fighting through pain after running for 28 hours and amid the sound of tired feet struggling through the Arizona dirt — finally soft, soothing (舒缓的) music could be heard over the horizon. The finish line, which was once 100-miles away, was right in front of him. A small, roaring human victory tunnel welcomed Zach Bates as he ran across the finish line. Diagnosed with autism (自闭症) at the age of four, Bates completed the 100 mile ultramarathon (超级马拉松) earlier this year, becoming the youngest finisher in the race’s history, aged 19. Bates was a member of the cross-country team in high school but, after graduating he surprised his family with a new goal — to run a 100 mile race before his 20th birthday. Neither Bates nor his parents had any prior experience in preparing for the task at hand, but Brian, his father, found ways to help, truly making it a family affair. In addition to hiking safe trails, they read books together, organized all his nutrition, and made sure their son had the right equipment — like the watch he wore on long runs so they could track him and make sure he was safe and on course. Rana and Brian even helped with training schedules before finding more experienced ultramarathon runners — such as mentor John Hendrix and coach Nickademus de la Rosa. With Hendrix and de la Rosa’s expertise, the young American prepared by competing in shorter distances and successfully worked his way up to the 100miler in a short time. Rather than having his autism be a reason to make the goal unreachable, his mom said the challenge has helped him stay focused. “If we listen to our children and allow them to do what they want to do and be a support to them, you’ll be so surprised at where they’ll end up,” Rana says. 1.How did Bates probably feel when he ran across the finish line? A.Tired but cheerful. B.Proud and overconfident. C.Painful but peaceful. D.Comfortable and relaxed. 2.Why did Bates’ new goal surprise his family? A.Because he was diagnosed with autism. B.Because he was a crosscountry team member. C.Because he graduated from high school just now. D.Because they considered the new goal impractical. 3.Which of the following did not contribute to Bates’ success? A.Guidance from experts. B.His perseverance to the goal. C.Support from his family. D.Encouragement of team members. 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了患有自闭症的19岁少年Zach Bates成功完成100英里超级马拉松比赛的经历。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段“Fighting through pain after running for 28 hours and amid the sound of tired feet struggling through the Arizona dirt — finally soft, soothing (舒缓的) music could be heard over the horizon. One such game which has passed the test of time, becoming one of the oldest forms of child’s play ever known, is hoop rolling. Hoop rolling is both a child’s game and a sport. A large hoop is rolled along the ground, generally by means of an object held by the player to keep it rolling. The aim of the game is to keep the hoop upright for as long periods of time as possible. First, the left hand supports the hoop; the right hand holds the long handle of the hook (钩). And then keep the balance of the hoop with the hook. Push the hoop to the ground, keep it rolling steadily and keep the hoop from falling. In the team competition, it is mainly about who is faster, and how far to roll. Hoop rolling has a very long history and it has been recorded since ancient times in Africa, Asia and Europe. In Asia, the earliest records date from ancient China, and in Europe from ancient Greece. The ancient Greeks welcomed hoop rolling as a beneficial exercise for those not very strong. Besides, the game was also a common pastime of African village children. Hoop rolling serves as evidence (证据) of everyday life about the long-gone civilization. Every year at Wellesley College, hoop rolling competition started as a memory of the May Day celebration of spring. Now it gradually becomes part of the graduation ceremony. Students celebrate by dressing up in children’s clothing and playing games. The child’s play popular in ancient times helps them escape from real-world worries. The long history of the game shows that there indeed are inventions that are timeless. The human ability to make himself and others happy has been present since the beginning of civilization, and will be present forever. 1.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us about hoop rolling? A.Its rules. B.Its types. C.Its history. D.Its material 2.Why did ancient Greeks like hoop rolling? A.It offered a way to kill time. B.It was fit for village children. C.It could be played anywhere. D.It helped the weak to exercise. 3.Why is Wellesley College mentioned? A.To remember the May Day celebration. B.To promote a method of reducing stress. C.To encourage other colleges to follow suit. D.To give an example of preserving the tradition. 4.What does the long history of hoop rolling suggest? A.People’s hobbies have changed a lot. B.All inventions will survive in history. C.Good things can stand the test of time. D.New games will always be on the way. 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.D 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了一种古老的儿童游戏——滚铁环。 1.主旨大意题。根据第二段“Hoop rolling is both a child’s game and a sport. As one of the destinations of the “Go Jiangsu” program, we visited the Yao Jiaping Embroidery Art Gallery. Before this encounter, my interaction with Suzhou embroidery (刺绣) was limited to online images, which is why, at the art gallery, I was amazed at the unbelievable precision that I had assumed was machine-made. Seeking a hands-on experience, I realized those weaving stories with threads are a millennia-old cultural heritage. It struck me that this isn’t just handicraft; it’s an art form and a slice of history. Wandering through Suzhou at night was a different kind of magic. The streetlights, busy markets, and street food transported me to another dimension. Walking down the Pingjiang Road, where ancient buildings meet modern lighting, I felt the unique charm of Suzhou. It dawned on me that modernization doesn’t have to mean abandoning tradition; they can exist side by side. Exploring Suzhou Industrial Park, I witnessed another facet(方面)of China’s modernization. These towering buildings and cutting-edge companies showcased the rapid pace of China’s modern development. The transition from ancient culture to modern technology was nothing short of astonishing. Visiting the Suzhou Museum of Imperial Kiln Brick rounded out my journey, offering a comprehensive view of China’s history. Each exhibit narrated a story, spanning from ancient artifacts to modern achievements, enriching my understanding of China’s developmental process. Suzhou absolutely lives up to its reputation as “the city of museums, the city of parks, and the city of theater”. Through personal encounters, I gained not just knowledge but a deeper connection and appreciation for China’s culture and progress. This journey wasn’t just a physical one; it was an enriching experience for the soul. 1.Which word can best describe the writer’s trip to Suzhou? A.Costly. B.Extraordinary. C.Romantic. D.Accidental. 2.What does the writer think of Suzhou embroidery? A.It is the best handicraft. B.It is really made by machine. C.It partly mirrors China’s history. D.It was invented by Yao Jianping. 3.Why is the Pingjiang Road mentioned in Paragraph 4? A.To advocate preserving the tradition. B.To highlight the local rapid development. C.To emphasize the importance of modernization. D.To praise the integration of tradition and modernity. 4.What does the writer imply in the last paragraph? A.The trip is well worth it. B.Culture contradicts with progress. C.Suzhou is a good destination for children. D.“Go Jiangsu” program must attain popularity. 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D 4.A 【导语】这是一篇游记,作者作为一名中德学生,记录了其在江苏苏州的一次旅行经历,从中了解到苏州的传统文化与现代化发展。 1.推理判断题。根据第二段“I was amazed at the unbelievable precision that I had assumed was machine-made. While online reading opens up a lot of knowledge to people, there are some drawbacks, too. These include eyestrain, headaches, as well as difficulty in even finishing reading the text. Now a new reading plugin (插件) has been intended to help people overcome these problems and read faster online. The reading plugin called Bionic Reading, which was developed by Swiss designer Renato Casutt, was created with the belief that your brain can read faster than your eyes. The plugin makes the first few letters of each word in bold (粗体), which actually allows your eyes to skip over parts of the text and your brain to fill in what is missing. Incredibly, reading like this feels like finally unlocking 100 percent of people’s brain. Casutt came up with the plugin by accident. He was reading a book in a foreign language and realized he could read it faster and well master it if he separated it into parts. He has worked for six years to develop Bionic Reading and is still working to perfect it. Many people who want to strengthen their reading ability show interest in it, but more research is needed before it can be definitively shown that the system improves reading ability. But people with dyslexia (诵读障碍) have confirmed that Bionic Reading did help them focus on what they are reading. Casutt’s goal is to integrate the plugin into all reading apps and online services. “In a digital world dominated (支配) by shallow forms of reading, Bionic Reading aims to encourage a more in-depth reading and understanding of written content,” he said. Bionic Reading is available in several apps like Fiery Feeds, Lire, and Next App. The best way to know if it helps you read better online is to try it yourself and find out what it is all about. 1.How does Bionic Reading work? A.Users can read faster with less thinking. B.Users keep their brains much less active. C.Users keep an eye on part of the whole text. D.Users guess the meanings of some key words. 2.What benefit does Bionic Reading bring to people with dyslexia? A.Selecting suitable reading contents. B.Keeping up with reading contents. C.Limiting reading time. D.Reducing stress from reading. 3.What can we learn about Bionic Reading? A.It has not been put into use so far. B.It has already been fully developed. C.It leaves users a further reading and thinking. D.It helps users skip the new words in reading. 4.Which is the most suitable title for the text? A.New Pioneering Plugin Improves Online Reading B.Online Reading Is Sure To Perfect People’s Brain C.Spending Time On Online Reading Is Worthwhile D.New Pioneering Plugin Still Needs To Be Improved 【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。Casutt发明了一种新插件,它可以帮人们克服在线阅读时眼睛疲劳,头痛等问题,并能提高在线阅读速度。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段的句子“The plugin makes the first few letters of each word in bold (粗体), which actually allows your eyes to skip over parts of the text and your brain to fill in what is missing.(该插件将每个单词的前几个字母加粗,这实际上可以让你的眼睛跳过部分文本,让你的大脑填补缺失的部分)”可知,通过使用该插件阅读,用户的眼睛会跳过部分文本,也就是只关注部分内容。故选C项。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段的最后一句话“But people with dyslexia (诵读障碍) have confirmed that Bionic Reading did help them focus on what they are reading.(但有阅读障碍的人已经证实,Bionic Reading确实帮助他们专注于阅读内容)”可知,对于有阅读障碍的人来说,Bionic Reading能帮助他们专注于阅读内容。故选B项。 3.细节理解题。根据最后一段Casutt所说的“In a digital world dominated (支配) by shallow forms of reading, Bionic Reading aims to encourage a more in-depth reading and understanding of written content.(在一个被肤浅阅读形式主导的数字世界中,Bionic Reading旨在鼓励对书面内容进行更深入的阅读和理解)”可知,Bionic Reading可以让用户进行更深入的阅读和思考。故选C项。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“While online reading opens up a lot of knowledge to people, there are some drawbacks, too. These include eyestrain, headaches, as well as difficulty in even finishing reading the text. Now a new reading plugin (插件) has been intended to help people overcome these problems and read faster online.(虽然在线阅读为人们打开了很多知识,但也有一些缺点。这些症状包括眼睛疲劳,头痛,甚至很难读完文章。现在,一个新的阅读插件旨在帮助人们克服这些问题,提高在线阅读速度)”及下文对插件的介绍可知,文章主要介绍了一种新插件,它可以帮人们克服在线阅读时眼睛疲劳,头痛等问题,并能提高在线阅读速度。由此可知,A项“New Pioneering Plugin Improves Online Reading(新的先锋插件改进了在线阅读)”适合作为本文标题。故选A项。 Passage 15 Scott Nover, a journalist, was trying to log into a website on his laptop when he found himself staring at a picture of a woodland creature wearing a jacket with flowers and watermelon slices moving about. He had entered the strange new world of captchas (验证码). For years, people trying to shop online or log into social media accounts might be pressed to complete bothersome but largely simple tasks — working out words in distorted (变形的) type, clicking on pictures of buses, adding up numbers. Now those tasks are getting odder and require more brain power. Captcha is short for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. It was developed at the turn of this century to prevent bots from disrupting (扰乱) websites and their databases by pretending to be well-intentioned human users. It challenges people to prove they are humans by presenting tasks that only humans can solve. Companies use captchas to protect against bot attacks that can crash their websites. The companies and experts who design captchas have been doing all they can to stay one step ahead of the bad actors figuring out how to break them. A cottage industry of third-party captcha-solving firms has emerged. More alarmingly, so has technology that can automatically solve simple tests, such as identifying photos of motorcycles and reading distorted text. “Software has gotten really good at labeling photos,” said Kevin Gosschalk, the founder and CEO of Arkose Labs, which designs what it calls “prevention solutions”, including captchas. “So now enters a new era of captchas — logic-based.” Arkose Labs employs a staff of artists, former game designers and experts to create some of the more demanding tasks appearing during logins. Arkose says that even its hardest challenges have a first-time solve rate of 94.6%. Not all of its ideas make the cut. The team once developed a Space Invaders-style game for users to get through, but it was too hard for humans to complete on their first try. 1.What does the author think of captchas? A.They are becoming more interesting. B.They are getting more demanding. C.They are key to safe online activities. D.They are relatively easy for journalists. 2.What does Paragraph 3 mainly stress about captchas? A.Their functions. B.Their purposes. C.Their disadvantages. D.Their effects. 3.What is a notable feature of Arkose Labs’ new captchas? A.They focus on photo labeling. B.They have popular artistic designs. C.They require logic-based problem-solving. D.They allow distorted text recognition. 4.What is the example of the Space Invaders-style game used to show? A.An undesired result from Arkose’s design. B.Arkose’s role in leading the industry. C.The hardest challenge facing Arkose. D.Arkose’s speed in upgrading its products. 【答案】1.B 2.B 3.C 4.A 【导语】这是一篇说明文。本文主要介绍了验证码的目的及Arkose Labs开发的基于逻辑的新验证码。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段关键句“Now those tasks are getting odder and require more brain power. (现在,这些任务变得越来越奇怪,需要更多的脑力)”可知,作者认为,现在的验证码越来越奇怪,需要更多的脑力,由此可知,作者认为验证码的要求越来越高了。故选B项。 2.主旨大意题。根据第三段关键句“It was developed at the turn of this century to prevent bots from disrupting (扰乱) websites and their databases by pretending to be well-intentioned human users. (它是在本世纪初开发的,目的是防止机器人通过假装是善意的人类用户来扰乱网站及其数据库)”可知,本段内容主要介绍了验证码的目的——防止机器人通过假装是善意的人类用户来扰乱网站及其数据库,由此可知,第3段主要强调验证码的目的。故选B项。 3.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段内容““Software has gotten really good at labeling photos,” said Kevin Gosschalk, the founder and CEO of Arkose Labs, which designs what it calls “prevention solutions”, including captchas. “So now enters a new era of captchas—logic-based.” 根据最后一段关键句“Arkose says that even its hardest challenges have a first-time solve rate of 94.6%. Not all of its ideas make the cut. The team once developed a Space Invaders-style game for users to get through, but it was too hard for humans to complete on their first try. (Arkose表示,即使是最困难的挑战,首次解决率也达到了94.6%。并非所有的想法都能成功。该团队曾为用户开发过一款太空入侵者风格的游戏,但人类第一次尝试就很难完成)”可知,Arkose团队开发的验证码即使是最困难的挑战,首次解决率也很高,但太空入侵者风格的游戏是个例外,人类第一次尝试就很难完成,由此可知,太空入侵者风格游戏的例子是Arkose设计的一个意外结果。故选A项。 Passage 16 The other day, my sister and I were sitting in a restaurant, trying to have a conversation, but her children, four-year-old Willow and seven-year-old Luca, would not stop fighting. The arguments—over a fork, or who had more water in a glass—never stopped. Then my sister reached into her handbag, produced two shiny iPads (苹果平板电脑), and handed one to each child. Suddenly, the two were quiet. They sat playing games and watching videos, and we continued with our conversation. After our meal, as my sister sniffed the iPads back into her bag, she said, “I don’t want to give them the iPads at the dinner table, but if they keep them occupied for an hour so we can eat in peace, I often just hand them over. I’m afraid it’s bad for them. I do worry that it makes them think it’s OK to use electronics at the dinner table in the future.” Dr.GarySmall, director of the Longevity Centre at the University of California, Los Angeles says that the brain is highly sensitive to stimuli (刺激物), like iPads and smartphone screens, and if people spend too much time on one technology, and less time interacting (互动) with people like parents at the dinner table, that could prevent the development of certain communication skills. “Conversations with each other are the way children learn to have conversations with themselves, and learn how to be alone,” said Sherry Turkle, a professor of science, technology and society at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She fears that children who do not learn real interactions, which often have imperfections, will come to know a world where perfect, shiny screens give them a false sense of intimacy (亲密) without risk. However, they need to be able to gather themselves and know who they are. So someday they can form a relationship with another person without a panic of being alone. “If you don’t teach your children to be alone, they’ll only know how to be lonely,” she said. 1.What did Willow and Luca fight about? A.iPads. B.Little things. C.Delicious food. D.Interesting things. 2.According to Dr.Small, what should parents do? A.Provide their children with various technologies. B.Teach their children communication skills. C.Talk to their children at the dinner table. D.Limit their children’s screen time. 3.What is Sherry Turkle worried about? A.Children are afraid of taking risks. B.Children try to escape from the real world. C.Children can’t live without electronic devices. D.Children can’t deal with companionless situations. 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了使用电子产品对孩子的一些影响。 1.细节理解题。根据第一段“The other day, my sister and I were sitting in a restaurant, trying to have a conversation, but her children,four-year-old Willow and seven-year-old Luca, would not stop fighting. The arguments—over a fork, or who had more water in a glass—never stopped.”(前几天,我和妹妹坐在一家餐厅里,试图交谈,但她的孩子,四岁的威洛和七岁的卢卡,一直在打架。关于叉子或谁的杯子里有更多水的争论从未停止。)可知,威洛和卢卡打架是因为一些小事。故选B项。 2.推理判断题。根据第四段“Dr.GarySmall, director of the Longevity Centre at the University of California, Los Angeles says that the brain is highly sensitive to stimuli, like iPads and smartphone screens, and if people spend too much time on one technology, and less time interacting with people like parents at the dinner table, that could prevent the development of certain communication skills.”(加州大学洛杉矶分校长寿中心主任GarySmall博士表示,大脑对iPad和智能手机屏幕等刺激非常敏感,如果人们在一项技术上花费太多时间,而在餐桌上与父母等人互动的时间较少,这可能会阻碍某些沟通技能的发展。)可知,iPad和智能手机屏幕等会刺激大脑,推断出家长应该限制孩子使用屏幕的时间。故选D项。 3.推理判断题。根据最后一段“She fears that children who do not learn real interactions, which often have imperfections, will come to know a world where perfect, shiny screens give them a false sense of intimacy (亲密) without risk. However, they need to be able to gather themselves and know who they are. So someday they can form a relationship with another person without a panic of being alone.”(她担心,那些没有学会真实互动的孩子们,往往会有不完美的地方,会知道一个完美、闪亮的屏幕会给他们一种虚假的亲密感,而不会有风险。然而,他们需要能够集中精力并且知道自己是谁。因此,有一天他们可以与另一个人建立关系,而不会因为独处而感到恐慌。)可知,Sherry Turkle担心的是孩子无法处理没有同伴的情况。故选D项。 话题5 环境与保护 Passage 17 (23-24高一上·云南昆明·阶段练习)A heatwave has hit many countries in Europe, pushing temperatures over 40℃. A heatwave is a long period of unusually hot weather. The heat is expected to continue until the end of July. The Italian Island of Sardinia reached 46℃ on 18 July. The Italy government has asked people to dress in linen(a thin, light material) and to stay indoors between 10 am and 6 pm. The government has asked people to drink plenty of water but avoid alcohol, fizzy drinks and coffee, which can make you feel thirstier. In Rome, the country’s capital, people aged over 70can go to swimming pools for free to help them keep cool. Wildfires have broken out in many places. In Greece, which recorded 41℃ on 18 July, fires near the capital, Athens, have destroyed huge areas of forest and thousands of people have been moved to safety. Heatwaves can make fires worse because hot weather dries plants, which fuel the fires. In the US, temperatures in Death Valley, California, hit 53℃ on 18 July, close to the hottest ever recorded on Earth. On 16 July, the US National Weather Service issued warnings in parts of the country, affecting more than 80 million people. Despite the high temperatures in many European countries, the UK is not experiencing a heatwave. This is because a different weather pattern has brought rain and lower temperatures to the UK. The heatwave in Europe is being caused by a weather pattern that has stopped the air from moving very much. That means the hot, dry weather has got stuck and temperatures have kept rising. Earth is also experiencing a natural climate pattern called El Nino(厄尔尼诺), which causes the water in the eastern Pacific Ocean to warm up more than usual. This can lead to hot weather around the world. Temperatures in some parts of Europe were expected to fall on 20 July. 1.What suggestion did the Italian government give to avoid high temperatures? A.Provide free swimming pools to keep young people cool. B.Wear thick clothes to prevent the invasion of heat. C.Drink enough amounts of coffee to keep the mind clear. D.Don’t go outdoors during high temperature periods. 2.What do we know about the wildfires in Greece? A.The fires were mainly caused by people. B.The heatwaves fueled the spread of wildfires. C.The fires had already killed a thousand people. D.The entire forest has been destroyed into ruins. 3.What prevented the UK from experiencing the heatwaves of Europe? A.Different weather patterns. B.Different geographic locations. C.Global El Nino phenomenon. D.The effect of the Pacific Ocean. 4.What is the main idea of this passage? A.The hottest city on record in the world has finally emerged. B.The hot weather caused by heatwaves is coming to an end. C.Heatwaves swept across Europe and America except the UK. D.The El Nino phenomenon led to the global high temperatures. 【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了热浪袭击欧洲以及各地政府采取的措施。 1.细节理解题。根据第二段的“The Italy government has asked people to dress in linen(a thin, light material) and to stay indoors between 10 am and 6 pm. The government has asked people to drink plenty of water but avoid alcohol, fizzy drinks and coffee, which can make you feel thirstier. In Rome, the country’s capital, people aged over 70can go to swimming pools for free to help them keep cool.(意大利政府要求人们穿亚麻布(一种轻薄的材料),并在上午10点至下午6点之间呆在室内。政府要求人们多喝水,但避免饮酒、碳酸饮料和咖啡,因为它们会让你感到更渴。在该国首都罗马,70岁以上的人可以免费去游泳池帮助他们保持凉爽)”可知,意大利政府建议高温时期不要到户外活动。故选D。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“Heatwaves can make fires worse because hot weather dries plants, which fuel the fires.(热浪会使火灾恶化,因为炎热的天气会使植物干燥,从而助长火灾)”可知,热浪助长了野火的蔓延。故选B。 3.推理判断题。根据第五段“Despite the high temperatures in many European countries, the UK is not experiencing a heatwave. This is because a different weather pattern has brought rain and lower temperatures to the UK.(尽管许多欧洲国家的气温很高,但英国并没有经历热浪。这是因为不同的天气模式给英国带来了降雨和较低的温度)”可知,不同的天气模式使英国没有经历欧洲的热浪。故选A。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“A heatwave has hit many countries in Europe, pushing temperatures over 40℃. A heatwave is a long period of unusually hot weather. The heat is expected to continue until the end of July.(热浪袭击了欧洲许多国家,使气温超过40℃。热浪是指长期异常炎热的天气。预计高温将持续到7月底)”以及第二段的“The Italy government has asked people to dress in linen(a thin, light material) and to stay indoors between 10 am and 6 pm. The government has asked people to drink plenty of water but avoid alcohol, fizzy drinks and coffee, which can make you feel thirstier. In Rome, the country’s capital, people aged over 70can go to swimming pools for free to help them keep cool.(意大利政府要求人们穿亚麻布(一种轻薄的材料),并在上午10点至下午6点之间呆在室内。政府要求人们多喝水,但避免饮酒、碳酸饮料和咖啡,因为它们会让你感到更渴。在该国首都罗马,70岁以上的人可以免费去游泳池帮助他们保持凉爽)”和第五段“Despite the high temperatures in many European countries, the UK is not experiencing a heatwave. This is because a different weather pattern has brought rain and lower temperatures to the UK.(尽管许多欧洲国家的气温很高,但英国并没有经历热浪。这是因为不同的天气模式给英国带来了降雨和较低的温度)”可知,本文主要介绍了热浪袭击除英国以外的欧美地区以及各地政府采取的措施。故选C。 Passage 18 The Internet’s carbon footprint is as bad as air travel. While it is difficult to measure precisely, estimates place it at over two percent of global greenhouse gas emissions(排放)—the same as the air travel. Information may appear to spread around the world unseen to our eyes, but it actually passes through enormous data centers placed strategically about the globe, which store, organize and deliver everyone’s data. These centers are extremely energy intensive. In the EU, they consume close to three percent of its total energy usage and also require lots of water to prevent their computers from overheating. In the US, about a fifth of data centers draw water from already stressed water sources. A typical spam email(垃圾邮件)emits around 0.03g of CO2 emissions, though longer messages read on a laptop can go all the way up to 26g. Now multiply that by 333 billion(roughly the number of emails that get sent every day in 2022). That puts all those work emails into perspective. One study found if every British adult sent one less “thank you” email a day, it would save 16, 433 tons of carbon a year. It even predicted that the ICT industry could account for up to a fifth of the world’s energy consumption by 2025. However, there are measures that we can take to reduce our digital carbon footprint. For instance, you can unsubscribe from marketing and other spam emails and only subscribe to newsletters that you still regularly read. Have regular data checks where you delete old contact lists and other documents that no longer have any use. Keep a clean inbox and delete emails you no longer need. 1.Why does the author make a comparison in the beginning? A.To present the digital carbon footprint. B.To emphasize the importance of air travel. C.To advise people not to travel by airplane. D.To inform the disadvantages of the Internet. 2.What can we infer about data centers? A.It enjoys a wide popularity. B.It has various kinds of functions. C.It causes large energy consumption. D.It has quite a complex mode of operation. 3.What’s the purpose of mentioning the figures in Paragraph 3? A.To draw the readers’ attention. B.To illustrate a certain information. C.To highlight the change of CO2 emission. D.To stress the importance of reducing CO2 emission. 4.What’s the author’s attitude towards reducing digital carbon footprint? A.Neutral. B.Optimistic. C.Unfavorable. D.Concerned. 【答案】1.A 2.C 3.D 4.B 【导语】本文为一篇说明文,介绍了在数字时代,网络数据的储存、组织和传送会造成巨大的碳排放,文章建议了几种方法可以减少数字碳足迹。 1.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“The Internet’s carbon footprint is as bad as air travel. While it is difficult to measure precisely, estimates place it at over two percent of global greenhouse gas emissions—the same as the air travel.(互联网的碳足迹和航空旅行一样糟糕。虽然难以精确测量,但据估计,它占全球温室气体排放量的2%以上,与航空旅行相同)”可推知,作者在第一段将互联网碳足迹和航空旅行碳足迹相比是为了展示数字碳足迹。故选A。 2.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“These centers are extremely energy intensive. In the EU, they consume close to three percent of its total energy usage and also require lots of water to prevent their computers from overheating. In the US, about a fifth of data centers draw water from already stressed water sources.(这些中心都是能源密集型的。在欧盟,电脑消耗了近3%的总能源消耗,而且还需要大量的水来防止电脑过热。在美国,大约五分之一的数据中心从已经紧张的水源中取水)”可推知,数据中心造成了大量的能源消耗。故选C。 3.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“A typical spam email(垃圾邮件)emits around 0.03g of CO2 emissions, though longer messages read on a laptop can go all the way up to 26g. Now multiply that by 333 billion(roughly the number of emails that get sent every day in 2022).(一封典型的垃圾邮件的二氧化碳排放量约为0.03克,而在笔记本电脑上阅读较长的信息的二氧化碳排放量可高达26克。现在再乘以3330亿封(大概是2022年每天发送的电子邮件数量))”及“One study found if every British adult sent one less “thank you” email a day, it would save 16, 433 tons of carbon a year. It even predicted that the ICT industry could account for up to a fifth of the world’s energy consumption by 2025.(一项研究发现,如果每个英国成年人每天少发一封“感谢”邮件,一年就能减少16433吨碳排放。它甚至预测,到2025年,信息通信技术产业将占到世界能源消耗的五分之一)”可知,本段通过列举数字说明了网络数据能造成巨大的碳排放,因此,这一段是为了强调减少二氧化碳排放的重要性。故选D。 4.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“However, there are measures that we can take to reduce our digital carbon footprint.(然而,我们可以采取一些措施来减少我们的数字碳足迹)”及下文提到的几种方法可知,作者认为数字碳足迹问题可以改善,持乐观态度。故选B。 Passage 19 (23-24高一上·广东江门·期中)An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters. It may cause great damage. So it is wise to learn some simple safety tips to protect yourself or your family members. Fragile items, like those made of glass should usually be placed on a lower surface, near the ground instead of placing them on cupboards higher up. Never place them near your bed, sofas and other furniture where you would be sitting or lying down. When there is a strong movement, these pieces will fall on the floor directly and not on you. There is a strong chance of short circuits (短路) and fire breakouts during an earthquake. Make sure you turn off electrical connections and gas immediately when an earthquake happens. During an earthquake, lie beneath an object that is not easily damaged. Do not go near objects that could directly fall on you. Never use the elevator to go down. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injures happen when people inside buildings try to go out. Use the staircases at all times. If you are outdoors, do not take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop your car and stay in a safe place. Do not park your car under a tree or any tall object. If trapped in debris (瓦砾堆), cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing. Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can find you. Use a whistle if it is available. Never shout for help. Shouting can cause you to breathe in dangerous amounts of dust. Do not light a match because you may burn yourself. Do not move about or kick up dust. 1.What does the underlined word “Fragile” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Easily broken. B.Easily found. C.Expensive. D.Heavy. 2.Where should items made of glass be put to reduce the injury from the earthquake? A.On cupboards. B.In the bedroom. C.On a lower surface. D.Places where children can’t reach them. 3.What are people advised to do during an earthquake? A.To go out of the building at once. B.To turn off power and gas immediately. C.To take shelter under a tree. D.To drive to a safe place. 4.What’s the purpose of the passage? A.To introduce the damage caused by earthquakes. B.To introduce the rescue work after earthquakes. C.To introduce what to do during earthquakes. D.To introduce how to prevent earthquakes. 【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了在地震发生时,应该采取什么样的安全措施。 1.词句猜测题。根据第二段“Fragile items, like those made of glass should usually be placed on a lower surface, near the ground instead of placing them on cupboards higher up. When there is a strong movement, these pieces will fall on the floor directly and not on you. (Fragile物品,像玻璃制品这样的物品通常应该放在靠近地面的较低位置,而不是放在较高的橱柜上。当有强烈震动时,这些东西会直接掉到地板上,而不是砸到你身上)”可知,玻璃制品这类物品是易碎的,由于like后是对fragile items的举例说明,由此推知 Fragile的意思是“易碎的”。故选A项。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“Fragile items, like those made of glass should usually be placed on a lower surface, near the ground instead of placing them on cupboards higher up. (易碎物品,如玻璃制品,通常应该放在靠近地面的较低位置,而不是放在较高的橱柜上)”可知,玻璃制品应该放在较低位置以减少地震造成的伤害。故选C项。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段“Make sure you turn off electrical connections and gas immediately when an earthquake happens. (地震发生时,一定要立即切断电源和煤气)”可知,地震发生时,人们应该首先切断电源和煤气。故选B项。 4.推理判断题。根据第一段“So it is wise to learn some simple safety tips to protect yourself or your family members. (因此,学习一些简单的安全提示来保护自己或家人是明智的)”以及后文介绍的地震时的具体做法可知,本文的主要目的是介绍地震时应采取的一些安全措施。故选C项。 Passage 20 (25-26高一上·云南·期中)In September, Shenzhen faced one of the most powerful natural challenges in its history — Super Typhoon Ragasa. With wind speeds reaching 200 kilometers per hour and accompanied by continuous heavy rain, it stood as the strongest storm to hit the city in decades. However, through careful preparation and quick emergency response, the city showed its strong ability to recover while minimizing damage and keeping people safe. The city’s weather service had been closely watching the storm’s path for several days before its arrival. Authorities issued the highest-level red alerts a full 24 hours before the typhoon reached land, giving people important preparation time. The city government put into action complete emergency measures, most notably the “five suspensions” policy that temporarily stopped all work, education, business, market and public transportation activities across the city. The success of the response was mainly due to Shenzhen’s well-organized community safety network. More than 20,000 community workers and volunteers carried out thorough door-to-door checks in risky neighborhoods. Their well-planned efforts made possible the safe moving of about 300,000 residents from dangerous areas to special emergency shelters. In one important case, emergency teams successfully moved 200 residents from old living buildings just hours before the typhoon came. During the typhoon’s worst period, the usually busy city changed into an unusually calm city scene. Public places were empty, transport systems stopped working, and people stayed safely inside. Meanwhile, hard-working emergency teams worked continuously through the storm, dealing with fallen trees, fixing broken power lines, and handling local flooding. The recovery after the typhoon moved forward with surprisingly good speed. Within 24 hours after the storm passed, important public services had mostly returned to normal operation. This successful typhoon response proved that facing nature’s powerful force requires both advanced city planning and shared social responsibility. As one emergency management leader rightly said, “While we cannot stop typhoons, we can certainly build cities that are fully ready to face them.” 1.What mainly made the resettling work so smooth? A.The weather forecast. B.The community network. C.The help from neighborhoods. D.The emergency team members. 2.What did the “five suspensions” policy mainly require people to do? A.Move to other cities temporarily. B.Stay indoors and stop all activities. C.Prepare emergency supplies at home. D.Help with the community rescue work. 3.What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage? A.To warn readers about the dangers of typhoons. B.To introduce the weather characteristics of Shenzhen. C.To state the problem of lacking preparation for natural disasters. D.To present a successful example of urban emergency management. 4.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.The Formation of Super Typhoons B.The Importance of Weather Forecasting C.A Successful Battle Against Super Typhoon D.A Touching Story of Fighting Against Typhoon 【答案】1.B 2.B 3.D 4.C 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章主要报道了深圳通过严密的社区网络、预警政策和“五停”措施,高效应对超强台风“桦加沙”,展现了城市应急管理的成功范例,突显了规划与社会协作的重要性。 1.细节理解题。根据第三段中“The success of the response was mainly due to Shenzhen’s well-organized community safety network. More than 20,000 community workers and volunteers carried out thorough door-to-door checks in risky neighborhoods.(应对的成功主要归功于深圳组织严密的社区安全网络。超过2万名社区工作者和志愿者对高风险社区进行了彻底的逐户检查)”可知,居民能顺利地安全转移主要得益于社区网络。故选B项。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The city government put into action complete emergency measures, most notably the “five suspensions” policy that temporarily stopped all work, education, business, market and public transportation activities across the city.(市政府采取了全面的应急措施,最引人注目的是“五停”政策,全市所有工作、教育、商业、市场和公共交通活动暂时停止)”可知,该政策要求人们待在室内,停止一切活动。故选B项。 3.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段中“This successful typhoon response proved that facing nature’s powerful force requires both advanced city planning and shared social responsibility.(此次成功的台风应对证明,面对自然之力需要先进的城市规划和共同的社会责任)”可知,文章重点在于展示深圳如何通过科学管理和社区协作成功应对超强台风“桦加沙”,其目的应该是“介绍城市应急管理的成功案例”。故选D项。 4.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“However, through careful preparation and quick emergency response, the city showed its strong ability to recover while minimizing damage and keeping people safe.(但通过周密准备和快速应急响应,深圳展现了强大的恢复能力,同时将损害降至最低并保障人员安全)”可知,文章主要报道了深圳通过严密的社区网络、预警政策和“五停”措施,高效应对超强台风“桦加沙”,展现了城市应急管理的成功范例。因此,C项“成功抗击超级台风”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选C项。 话题 6 文化与艺术 Passage 21 Chinatown Dragon Boat Festival 2025 HighlightsStage Performances Along Smith Street One of the main highlights of the weekend is the brilliant stage performances happening along Smith Street. Using the chance of studying abroad in my second year at college, I decided to go to Canada just because I wanted to see the beautiful phenomena there. So after I finished the study, I went to Yellowknife in the Northwest. I clearly remember the sixth night in Yellowknife. Suddenly my host mother came to my room around 8 p. m. and told me to change clothes and go outside quickly carrying her camera. The northern lights were flickering (闪烁)in the sky! I was amazed and just stood there with my mouth open. I forgot to take pictures of the mysterious lights. Since that night, whenever it was sunny, I went outside at night and looked at the sky. It was so cold that my hands and feet were numb with cold. Actually, the time of my being able to be out was limited. I had to bring her camera back to the house in one hour at the most, for the camera was going to be broken because of the cold temperature. As I took pictures of the northern lights, I came to find a characteristic movement of the lights. They first appear in the north part of the sky and then they gradually come down to the south. After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen. Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures. The stronger the sun acts, the better and stronger northern lights flicker in the sky. That’s because they occur from the collision(碰撞)between atmospheric gases and solar wind. Much more solar wind comes to the earth when the sun is active, leading to the best northern lights. 1.Why did the author forget to take pictures? A.It was freezing cold outside. B.He was shocked by the wonderful sights. C.The lights were flickering in the sky. D.He lost all his feeling in his hands and feet. 2.What can we infer from the passage? Among its many offerings, one stands out for its ability to charm, educate, and celebrate the diversity of human culture—the Google Doodle (涂鸦). This artistic project, which has evolved from simple still images to animated pictures, interactive games, and short videos, has turned the usual act of searching the internet into an enjoyable journey through history, culture, and, importantly, the English language. The idea of Google Doodle began in the late 1990s, when the company’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, wanted to add a touch of fun and personality to their search engine. The first Google Doodle, created in 1998 to mark the Burning Man Festival, was the start of a tradition that has since become known for its creativity, diversity and user engagement. Each Google Doodle is a masterpiece, designed and published by any doodler online to bring out the certain theme every year. From paying respect to literary greats like Mark Twain and Dickens to marking key moments in worldwide history, such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Google Doodles show the global influence of English and colorful cultural roots. One of the most amazing things about Google Doodle is its ability to mix the English language with artistic expression. Many Doodles include clever wordplay, literary quotes, and historical references, encouraging users to explore the events and celebrities more deeply. For example, a Doodle celebrating the life and works of William Shakespeare might show famous quotes from his plays, inviting users to dive into the rich world of Elizabethan literature. In conclusion, Google Doodle is more than just a visual delight. Through its charming designs, and interactive features, it invites us to explore, appreciate, and celebrate the diverse traditions that have shaped our shared human heritage. It serves as a bridge connecting the digital world with human emotions and memories, making every search a potential discovery of beauty and meaning. 1.What can you do on Google Doodle? A.Cheap. B.He got inspiration for his own exhibitions. C.He achieved his dream to be an art teacher. D.He received financial aid from an art school. 话题2 做人与做事 Passage 5 (24-25高一上·四川南充·月考)When I was young, I loved paper cutting and I was pretty good at it. Passage 6 In 2010, while Brad Ryan described his previous adventures hiking and climbing a famous mountain, he learned that his grandmother Joy Ryan had never set eyes on a mountain, which was one of her lifelong regrets. Passage 8 (25-26高一上·河北唐山·阶段练习)Teens with dominant (占主导地位的) friends are at higher risk for mental health problems, according to a new research republished from The Conversation. 话题3 运动与健康 Passage 9 (23-24高一上·广东佛山·开学考试)You may think that sailing is a difficult sport, but it is really not hard to learn it. Passage 10 Fighting through pain after running for 28 hours and amid the sound of tired feet struggling through the Arizona dirt — finally soft, soothing (舒缓的) music could be heard over the horizon. Passage 12 As a Chinese-German student at Tsinghua University, I thought I had a good grasp of both Chinese culture and modernization. A.New Pioneering Plugin Improves Online Reading B.Online Reading Is Sure To Perfect People’s Brain C.Spending Time On Online Reading Is Worthwhile D.New Pioneering Plugin Still Needs To Be Improved Passage 15 Scott Nover, a journalist, was trying to log into a website on his laptop when he found himself staring at a picture of a woodland creature wearing a jacket with flowers and watermelon slices moving about. Passage 16 The other day, my sister and I were sitting in a restaurant, trying to have a conversation, but her children, four-year-old Willow and seven-year-old Luca, would not stop fighting. 话题5 环境与保护 Passage 17 (23-24高一上·云南昆明·阶段练习)A heatwave has hit many countries in Europe, pushing temperatures over 40℃. Passage 18 The Internet’s carbon footprint is as bad as air travel. Passage 19 (23-24高一上·广东江门·期中)An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters. Passage 20 (25-26高一上·云南·期中)In September, Shenzhen faced one of the most powerful natural challenges in its history — Super Typhoon Ragasa. A.The Formation of Super Typhoons B.The Importance of Weather Forecasting C.A Successful Battle Against Super Typhoon D.A Touching Story of Fighting Against Typhoon 话题 6 文化与艺术 Passage 21 Chinatown Dragon Boat Festival 2025 HighlightsStage Performances Along Smith Street One of the main highlights of the weekend is the brilliant stage performances happening along Smith Street. Passage 22 (23-24高二上·广东广州·期末)Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature. A.The northern lights came out every night. B.The author took lots of pictures with his camera. C.The author could stay as long as he liked outdoors. D.Cameras will be damaged if exposed too long to coldness. 3.When is the best time to see the northern lights? A.They appear in the north part of the sky. B.They rise in the east and set in the west. C.They are between the north and south. D.They come down to the south part of the sky. 4.Why is it hard for the author to take good pictures? A.The lights stay in the middle for a very short time. B.The lights of the sun affect the northern lights. C.The lights are caused by the collisions of gases. D.The colours of the lights are determined by the height. Passage 23 (23-24高一上·四川乐山·期中)Though the FIFA World Cup came to an end in December 2022, the people of a particular city in China were busy making soccer history of their own. Zibo in Shandong province is called “the home of soccer ball”, being the birthplace of the ancient Chinese sport of cuju. Modern soccer sport started in England, but cuju won recognition (认可) from FIFA, as the earliest form of soccer in 2004. “Side-flicking”, “chest down” and “shoulder stopper” are some of the key moves acquired by cuju players. Li Weipeng,34, from Linzi district of Zibo city, is a seventh-generation inheritor (传承人) of cuju. He has been practicing these skills for 18 years. Acquiring different cuju skills is not easy. “At the beginning, I spent eight hours a day practicing juggling (颠) a ball. It was tiring,” Li said. He is now able to juggle a ball with his foot over 10,000 times in a row (连续地). Teaching students cuju moves is a part of Li’s job. The traditional Chinese sport cuju is now popular at primary and middle schools in Linzi. Its moves have been adapted (改编) into dances and morning exercises. “Students show great interest in playing cuju, which encourages me to promote (推广) the ancient sport,” Li added. Moreover, cuju has also become a platform for cultural exchanges. During the World Cup in Qatar, Li introduced cuju at a China-Qatar youth exchange activity held in Doha. He led Chinese and Qatari youth players, wearing traditional cuju costumes, to experience the ancient game. Many soccer fans watched them, cheered for them and gave them the thumbs-up. Many people were curious and wanted to communicate with the cuju players. 1.Where is the birthplace of cuju? A.Zibo. B.England. C.Doha. D.Qatar. 2.How old was Li Weipeng when he began to learn cuju? A.14 years old. B.16 years old. C.18 years old. D.34 years old. 3.How did Li Weipeng feel when he first practiced juggling a ball? A.Excited. B.Curious. C.Tired. D.Confident. 4.What encourages Li to promote cuju? A.His experience in cuju. B.The popularity of soccer. C.The need of cultural exchanges. D.Students’ interest in cuju. Passage 24 In the vast digital landscape, Google stands as a towering giant of innovation and creativity.
