Consider the case of a young friend of mine, who hit a traffic jam on his way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum (最后通牒) about being late on the job. Although there was a good reason for Sam’s being late — serious illness at home — he decided that this by-now-familiar excuse wouldn’t work any longer. His supervisor was probably already pacing up and down, preparing a dismissal speech. Yes, the boss was. Sam entered the office at 9: 35. The place was as quiet as a locker room (更衣室) and everyone was hard at work. Sam’s supervisor came up to him. Suddenly, Sam forced a grin and stretched out his hand. “How do you do!” he said. “I’m Sam Maynard. I’m applying for a job, which, I understand, became available just 35 minutes ago. Does the early bird get the worm?” The room exploded in laughter. The supervisor clamped off a smile and walked back to his office. Sam Maynard had saved his job — with the only tool that could win — a laugh. Humour is a most effective, yet frequently neglected (忽略) means of handling the difficult situations in our lives. It can be used for patching up differences, apologizing, saying “no”, criticizing, getting the other fellow to do what you want without his losing face. For some jobs, it’s the only tool that can succeed. It is a way to discuss subjects so sensitive that serious dialogue may start a quarrel. For example, many believe that comedians (喜剧演员) on television are doing more today for racial and religious tolerance (忍受力) than people in any other forum. 24. Why was Sam late for his job? A. Because he was ill. B. Because he got up late. C. Because he was caught in a traffic jam. D. Because he was busy applying for a new job. 25. Which of the following statements can we infer from the passage? A. Many lose life’s battles for they are lacking in a sense of humour. B. It wasn’t the first time that Sam came late for his work. C. Sam was supposed to come to his office at 8: 30. D. Humour is the most effective way of solving problems. 26. The underlined phrase “clamped off” in Paragraph 3 means ________ . A. tried to hold back B. tried to set C. charged D. gave out 27. The main idea of this passage is that ________ . A. Sam Maynard saved his job with humour B. humour is important in our lives C. the early bird gets the worm D. humour can solve racial discriminations C In today’s world, a photo can reveal much more than what meets the eye. A groundbreaking student project from Stanford University has shown that artificial intelligence (AI) can now guess the location where a photo was taken with surprising accuracy. The project, named PIGEON, was developed by three graduate students. Initially, they trained the AI system to play a game that involved identifying locations on Google Street View. However, they soon made a remarkable discovery: their AI had learned so much that it could also determine the locations of personal photos it had never seen before. This ability to “geolocate” images moved from a simple game to a powerful new tool. This new technology is a classic double-edged sword, offering both exciting benefits and potential risks. On the positive side, it could help people identify places in old family photographs where the locations have been forgotten. It could also assist field biologists in monitoring plant species and tracking environmental changes more efficiently. For educators, it could become a valuable tool for teaching geography. However, these positive uses come with a concerning downside. As Jay Stanley, a senior policy analyst, warns, this technology could expose private location information — used in the wrong hands for business tracking, government surveillance (监控) , or even stalkers (跟踪者) finding victims — making identifying someone’s location from a posted photo a serious privacy and safety risk. The AI achieves this by detecting hidden clues in images that humans might miss, such as vegetation types, soil conditions, architectural styles, and weather patterns; during tests, it accurately identified many locations from the students’ cross-country trip photos (including remote areas) , even locating a specific Yellowstone National Park campsite to within 35 miles. Recognizing these privacy risks, the student creators have wisely decided not to release their full AI model to the public. They hope this will prevent misuse while allowing for discussion about how such technology should be managed. Stanley suggests that as AI continues to evolve, we must all become more aware of the information we share online. A simple photo can reveal our location, and with advancing AI, that information is becoming easier for others to access. This development reminds us that technological progress must be balanced with careful consideration of its ethical (道德的) implications. 28. With regard to PIGEON, what can you learn from the first paragraph? A. It was intended to recognize locations. B. It instructed AI system to take photos. C. It was created for Google by three graduates. D. It was originally expected to locate all the unknown images. 29. According to the passage, what is a potential upside of the project? A. It enables government agents to conduct personal monitoring. B. It allows marketing companies to track consumer behavior. C. It helps stalkers find their victims’ private information. D. It aids students majoring in geography in their studies. 30. Why are the creators of PIGEON not displaying the full model to the public? A. To complete more tests on its performance. B. To maintain originality for their research. C. To avoid giving away privacy and misuse. D. To sell the technology to private companies. 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. To explain the technical principles of the PIGEON project in detail. B. To introduce a powerful but potentially risky new AI technology. C. To criticize the developers for not releasing their AI model. D. To promote the application of AI in environmental protection. D Picture this, you win two tickets to a sold-out concert and eagerly text to ask your friends if they’d like to join. There comes their response “Maybe.” Your mood immediately turns, for you need to wait for their decisions before you can figure out your plans for the concert. If you’ve experienced anything like the above anecdote, you’re not alone. People responding “maybe” to invitations is a common yet annoying aspect of social life. What goes on in people’s heads when they aren’t sure whether to accept an invitation? Social invitations can be a delicate dance. People often misread what someone extending an invitation wants to hear and overestimate an inviter’s likelihood of preferring a “maybe” over a “no.” Moreover, they fail to realize how much more disrespected people feel when they receive a “maybe” in response to their invitation. Naturally, we wanted to figure out why this awkward dynamic plays out. We found that it’s largely due to something called “motivated reasoning.” Motivated reasoning occurs when a person interprets information in a biased (有偏差的) way to suit their own wishes. In other words, invitees convince themselves that inviters want to hear “maybe” instead of “no” because a “maybe” is better for the invitees, allowing them to leave their options open. Besides, people tend to overestimate the negative consequences of saying “no” to invitations, thinking it will upset, anger and disappoint inviters. However, there were certain situations that made people more comfortable saying “no” to an invitation. When recipients of an invitation put themselves in the shoes of the person extending the invitation, they are more likely to realize that they’d probably prefer a definite answer. When the participants get invited to do something they didn’t want to do, they had no desire to keep their options open. The motivated reasoning then became irrelevant. While navigating social situations can be tricky, being direct and definite is sometimes best. It might reduce your options. But it’ll keep those who invite you from being left uncertain and maybe they’ll still think of you when the next concert comes to town. 32. Why is the concert anecdote mentioned at the beginning? A. To explain the background of the invitation. B. To stress the importance of quick replies. C. To encourage immediate decision- making. D. To introduce a common social situation. 33 What is the main reason for the response of “maybe” to an invitation? A. A biased interpretation of social cues. B. A desire for harmonious communication. C. An underestimation of refusal consequence. D. An understanding of the inviter’s expectation. 34. What is the author’s suggestion in the last paragraph? A. Keeping your options open for better plans. B. Accepting invitations to maintain friendships. C. Prioritizing clear response over open options. D. Thinking twice before refusing an invitation. 35. What is the best title for the passage? A. The Psychology behind “Maybe” B. The Hidden Consequence of “Maybe” C. “Maybe”: A Polite Escape from Conflict D. “Maybe”: A Perfect Solution to Invitations 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) What would you do if you were lost in the wilderness? My knees were shaking, and my throat felt drier with every passing second. As I looked around, 30 pairs of eyes were fixed on me, waiting for me to speak. Though I was comfortable sharing my ideas in small group discussions, I felt nervous about speaking in front of the whole class. Fear flooded me, and my mind went blank. I could hear my heart beating in my ears, blocking out the words I wanted to say. I ended up messing up the presentation. With another presentation coming soon, I refused to let fear hold me back again. I decided to sign up to perform at a campus comedy club event. I admired how confident stand-up comedians were, and I hoped I could act like them. When I spoke there later, though my jokes didn’t get much of a reaction, I surprisingly enjoyed being on stage and felt I could do better next time. Inspired by this, I knew I needed advice from someone more experienced. That was when I noticed Sania, a talented performer whose humor and confidence made her the highlight of the evening. I gathered the courage to talk to her and introduced myself as a beginner speaker looking to improve. She listened closely and gave me great advice, “Attend more open microphone (麦克风) events and watch more comedy performances.” Over the next few weeks, I attended more open microphone events and observed how Sania and other skilled comedians made their performances engaging with clever stories. Surprisingly, this helped me understand literature in a new way. I started to think of literature as something to be told. The characters I analyzed became lively figures in a story that I could explain in a more interesting way. Having prepared for some time, I took a chance and asked Sania if she would like to watch my novel presentation and offer advice. She gladly agreed and we met at a study hall one afternoon after school. I introduced the novel’s main characters to Sania, still a bit nervous. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When the time came for my next class presentation, I was quite different. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 金川高级中学教育集团2025-2026学年度第一学期高二年级 学业质量检测(二) 高二英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 Hello everyone and welcome to the first meeting of the photography club. I’m Mrs. Black, and I’m a physics teacher. I also love photography, which is why I’ve volunteered to run the club. We haven’t had a photography club at the school for five years, but I wanted to start it again because you no longer need expensive cameras to take good photos. Many of you have mobile phones with cameras that can take great photos in daylight and even at night, but any camera will do. I just wanted to go through how the club will work. We will meet every Thursday from 4:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m., when we will look at and discuss different photos and photography techniques. We’ll then set a challenge or theme for that week. For example, for this week, we’re going to focus on architecture. Take photos of buildings and then send me your best one. I’ll then select the best three and we’ll vote on which one is the best, with the winner getting a small prize. If you have any questions, come speak to me. A Running is not only a way to exercise, but also a link connecting families, supporting public welfare and passing on culture. A. tried to hold back B. tried to set C charged D. gave out 27. The main idea of this passage is that ________ . A. Sam Maynard saved his job with humour B. humour is important in our lives C. the early bird gets the worm D. humour can solve racial discriminations 【答案】24. C 25. B 26. A 27. 根据第一段“Consider the case of a young friend of mine, who hit a traffic jam on his way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum about being late on the job. (以我的一个年轻朋友为例,他在收到关于上班迟到的最后通牒后不久,在去上班的路上遇到了交通堵塞。)” 可知,他迟到的原因是他碰上了交通堵塞。故选C项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“Consider the case of a young friend of mine, who hit a traffic jam on his way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum about being late on the job. (以我的一个年轻朋友为例,他在收到关于上班迟到的最后通牒后不久,在去上班的路上遇到了交通堵塞。)”及“Although there was a good reason for Sam's being late — serious illness at home — he decided that this by-now-familiar excuse wouldn’t work any longer. (虽然Sam迟到有一个很好的理由——家里(有人患了)严重的疾病——但他觉得这个现在已经很熟悉的借口再也行不通了。)”可知,Sam不止一次上班迟到了。故选B项。 26题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段The room exploded in laughter. The supervisor clamped off a smile and walked back to his office. Sam Maynard had saved his job — with the only tool that could win — a laugh.(房间里爆发出一阵笑声。 故选A项。 根据第一段“A lot of us lose life’s tough battles by starting a frontal attack — when a touch of humour might well enable us to win.(我们中的许多人都因为正面攻击而输掉了生活中的艰难战斗,而幽默可能会让我们获胜。)” 及最后一段“Humour is a most effective, yet frequently neglected means of handling the difficult situations in our lives. 幽默是处理生活中困难的一种最有效的方法,但往往被忽视。)”并结合Sam通过幽默挽回自己工作的故事可知,文章强调了幽默的重要性。故选B项。 C In today’s world, a photo can reveal much more than what meets the eye. 28. A 29. D 30. C 31. However, they soon made a remarkable discovery: their AI had learned so much that it could also determine the locations of personal photos it had never seen before.(起初,他们训练人工智能系统玩一个涉及在谷歌街景上识别位置的游戏。 故选A。 根据第二段“For educators, it could become a valuable tool for teaching geography.(对于教育工作者来说,它可以成为教授地理的宝贵工具。)” 根据第四段“Recognizing these privacy risks, the student creators have wisely decided not to release their full AI model to the public.(认识到这些隐私风险,学生创造者明智地决定不向公众发布他们的完整人工智能模型。)” B。 D Picture this, you win two tickets to a sold-out concert and eagerly text to ask your friends if they’d like to join. 33. What is the main reason for the response of “maybe” to an invitation? “Maybe”: A Perfect Solution to Invitations 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. C 35. 根据第一段中的“Picture this, you win two tickets to a sold-out concert and eagerly text to ask your friends if they’d like to join. There comes their response “Maybe.” Your mood immediately turns, for you need to wait for their decisions before you can figure out your plans for the concert.(想象一下,你赢得了两张售罄音乐会的门票,急切地发短信问朋友是否愿意一起去。 你的心情立刻变了,因为你需要等他们做决定,才能确定自己的音乐会计划)”以及第二段中的“If you’ve experienced anything like the above anecdote, you’re not alone. People responding “maybe” to invitations is a common yet annoying aspect of social life.(如果你有过类似上述轶事的经历,你并不孤单。 根据第三段中的“We found that it’s largely due to something called “motivated reasoning.” Motivated reasoning occurs when a person interprets information in a biased (有偏差的) way to suit their own wishes. In other words, invitees convince themselves that inviters want to hear “maybe” instead of “no” because a “maybe” is better for the invitees, allowing them to leave their options open.(我们发现,这在很大程度上是由一种叫做“动机性推理”的东西导致的。 故选A项。 根据最后一段中的“While navigating social situations can be tricky, being direct and definite is sometimes best. It might reduce your options. But it’ll keep those who invite you from being left uncertain and maybe they’ll still think of you when the next concert comes to town.(虽然应对社交场合可能很棘手,但有时直接明确是最好的选择。 故选A项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) What would you do if you were lost in the wilderness? Some students hold the view that reading a book is better in that they can stop wherever they need to digest or reflect on the material or write down important points for subsequent review However, others argue that listening to a book can take place anytime and anyplace, which saves them the trouble of carrying books wherever they go. And listening to a book can more easily get them immersed in what the speaker is saying. I think we should deal with serious books by reading, and books for relaxation can be done by listening. 要求考生以“Is Reading a Book Better than Listening to It?” 词汇积累 有分歧的:divided→be at variance 沉浸于:immersed in→obsessed with 处理:deal with→handle 重要的:important→crucial 2. However, others argue that listening to a book can take place anytime and anyplace, which saves them the trouble of carrying books wherever they go. While some may have different opinions, others argue that since listening to a book is possible anytime and anyplace, it eliminates the trouble of carrying books around everywhere. 1】Some students hold the view that reading a book is better in that they can stop wherever they need to digest or reflect on the material or write down important points for subsequent review.(运用了that引导同位语从句,in that引导原因状语从句,whatever引导的宾语从句以及不定式作目的状语) 【高分句型2】However, others argue that listening to a book can take place anytime and anyplace, which saves them the trouble of carrying books wherever they go.(运用了that引导宾语从句,which引导定语从句以及whatever引导让步状语从句) 第二节(满分25分) 67. It was a presentation for my literature class, where every student had to present their analysis of a classic novel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I introduced the novel’s main characters to Sania, still a bit nervous. Sania listened carefully, nodding now and then. When I finished, she smiled warmly. “You did well, but try to slow down and make your points clearer,” Sania suggested. “And if you feel nervous, take a deep breath. Focus on connecting with your audience, not just presenting to them. Think of them as friends who are curious to hear your story.” Her specific advice removed my anxiety and increased my confidence. It greatly improved my approach and made me feel well prepared. When the time came for my next class presentation, I was quite different. As I spoke, I remembered Sania’s advice about engaging the audience with proper eye contact. I slowed down, focusing on connecting with my classmates as if they were my friends. Then I continued to express myself smoothly and confidently. This time, I received a round of loud applause, unlike the previous silence. I realized effective communication is just as important as the content itself. And thanks to Sania’s patience and support, I have experienced significant growth in the process. 词汇激活 行为类 ①建议:suggest/make a suggestion ②专注于:focus on/concentrate on ③将……当作:think of…as/regard…as… 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②焦虑:anxiety/inquietude 【点睛】【高分句型1】When I finished, she smiled warmly.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】As I spoke, I remembered Sania’s advice about engaging the audience with proper eye contact.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始,第一节听下面5段对话。 I'm longing to visit more places.
