Dear Amy,
I hope this letter finds you well. I want to share my experience of learning English with you.
When I first started learning English in Grade Six, I found it really difficult. I couldn’t remember new words easily, and my pronunciation was poor. I was afraid to speak English in class because I thought my classmates might laugh at me.
But things changed when I entered junior high school. Our English teacher, Ms. Wang, is very kind and patient. She always encourages us to speak English bravely. She teaches us new words with interesting stories and helps us practice pronunciation by listening to English songs and watching short videos.
I also joined the English corner at school. Every Tuesday afternoon, we gather in the classroom to talk about different topics in English, such as hobbies, travel and movies. At first, I could only say a few words, but now I can have short conversations with my classmates.
Besides, I started reading simple English books and keeping a diary in English. Every day, I spend 30 minutes reading and 15 minutes writing. These practices help me improve my vocabulary and writing skills.
Now, English has become my favorite subject. I even won the first prize in the school English speech contest last month. I’m so proud of myself!
What about your English learning? Do you have any good methods to share? Please write back soon.

You just need to start from your daily life, such as saving water and energy, planting more trees and protecting them carefully. When you use paper, remember to use both sides of it. “New York City is a star—the city of cities.” writes John Gunther, a famous reporter. But what makes a city great? To answer the question, researchers develop an index (指标) to look at the following: business (贸易) (How many international businesses are there?); people (How many people go to universities?); media (Is it easy to get information from the TV, radio, Internet?); entertainment (Do people have many choices on museums, gyms, restaurants, music halls?)
In the 2018 research, the top 5 cities are New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Beijing gets the 9th place. All these cities do better in some indexes. For example, Beijing’s strength is business while Tokyo’s strength is people. New York, London, and Paris are strong in all four fields, so they are at the top.

India cities such as Mumbai and New Delhi have a lot of chance because of business, too. In South America, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Buenos Aires in Argentina are growing and will play a big part in improving (改善) people’s lives. In the Middle East, Cairo in Egypt and Dubai will have more power in international politics (政治) and business—especially in helping East and West work together.

Dear Amy,
I hope this letter finds you well.

My dear children,
I’m your mother, the Earth. I’m writing to call for help. The doctor says I am badly ill because of global warming (全球变暖), forest disappearing and air pollution. Now the sky is not as blue as before. It looks dirty and gray. Much rubbish is floating on rivers, so many living things in the rivers die. What is worse, they throw off bad smells. There are fewer and fewer trees on the hills. Many animals have no places to live in.
My dear children, you all need a healthy living environment, but you are doing something bad to me. Please stop polluting the beautiful land you are living on. You can do something to help me. You just need to start from your daily life, such as saving water and energy, planting more trees and protecting them carefully. When you use paper, remember to use both sides of it. Don’t use a paper cup or a paper bag too often.
If you try your best, I will get well again and the world will be much more beautiful.
