After floating (漂浮) for 55 days on the water the five fishermen looked weathered, thin, but unbelievably alive. Vladimir, José, José Gabriel, Jhonny, and Jorge had become more than just fellow survivors during their terrible journey. They were now brothers, united by an experience that would forever connect them. “I never thought we’d make it,” Vladimir said as the Ecuadorian rescue boat pulled alongside them. His fellow fishermen nodded, each lost in memories of their impossible survival. Their adventure had begun as a fishing trip from Peru. Two days later, their boat’s engine failed, leaving them powerless and directionless. Fortunately, they survived by collecting rainwater, fishing with temporary lines and sharing everything they caught. When there was little food, they talked about their families, their dreams, and their lives back home. Jhonny from Colombia would tell jokes that made everyone laugh. José would sing old Peruvian folk songs that kept their spirits high. “We became a family out there,” Jorge later told reporters. “Not just fishermen from different countries, but true brothers.” Their rescue was more than just a miracle (奇迹). It showed human connection that went beyond national borders. As they arrived at the Galapagos Islands, local people gave them food and warm blankets. Children waved flags, international media gathered, and for a moment, these five ordinary fishermen became extraordinary symbols of hope. “We didn’t just survive,” Vladimir said with a smile. “We proved that when humans work together, nothing is impossible.” The five fishermen, once strangers from different countries, were now united by an experience that would define their lives forever. For example, if you suffer from depression (抑郁), you may find it hard to get up in the morning, let alone help others. But new research by Shenzhen and Peking Universities finds there may be a clever way to give. In the study, researchers arranged hundreds of young, depressed adults to either make daily micro-donations for two months or to be on a waiting list. Told that giving small donations helps improve society, participants were invited to donate at least one cent per day for the next two months to any charity. Before and every week during those two months, all participants filled out questionnaires that were about their possible depression-related aspects: depressed feelings, lack of joy, physical discomforts, sleepiness, and interpersonal problems, as well as how often they felt positive and negative feelings. After analyzing the results, the researchers found people who donated daily, even as little as one cent a day, felt significantly more positive than people on the waiting list. This, in turn, seemed to explain why they also felt less depressed each week. In other words, making donations, even small ones, helps improve mood (心情). And, though social connection wasn’t necessary for deriving benefit, the study suggests donating could help depressed people who might otherwise refuse to practice kindness toward others, according to Jinting Liu, one of the study’s coauthors. Liu suggests this could be due to the fact that if you tend to feel depressed, focusing on others for a while gives you a break from thinking about yourself and your shortcomings. It’s also possible that giving makes you feel better about yourself and that prevents the negative self-talk common to depressives. Interestingly, although people who gave more generously felt a bit happier and less depressed than those who gave less, the difference wasn’t big enough to be significant. This means even people with low means can make use of this simple activity. “Just doing something nice for others is great,” says Liu. “The amount of money isn’t the key part; it’s really about the kindness behind it.” 8. What information did the researchers collect about all participants? A. Their willingness to donate. B. Their levels of depressive signs. C. The quality of their social life. D. The frequency of their sleepiness. 9. What does the underlined word “deriving” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Using. B. Reducing. C. Doubting. D. Getting. 10. Why might giving help depressed individuals? A. It reduces self-focus time. B. It ensures comfortable talks. C. It encourages physical activity. D. It improves interpersonal relationships. 11. What can be learned according to the study? A. Giving is difficult to practice. B. Money amount determines results. C. Tiny kindnesses remain helpful. D. Generosity is the key source of joy. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段中的“Before and every week during those two months, all participants filled out questionnaires that were about their possible depression-related aspects: depressed feelings, lack of joy, physical discomforts, sleepiness, and interpersonal problems, as well as how often they felt positive and negative feelings.(在这两个月之前和期间的每周,所有参与者都填写了问卷,内容涉及他们可能的抑郁相关方面:抑郁情绪、缺乏快乐、身体不适、嗜睡、人际关系问题,以及他们感受到积极和消极情绪的频率。)” 根据划线词所在句“And, though social connection wasn’t necessary for deriving benefit, the study suggests donating could help depressed people who might otherwise refuse to practice kindness toward others, according to Jinting Liu, one of the study’s coauthors.(该研究的合著者之一刘金婷表示,尽管社会联系对于deriving益处并非必要,但研究表明,捐赠可以帮助那些原本可能拒绝向他人行善的抑郁症患者。)” 根据第四段中的“Liu suggests this could be due to the fact that if you tend to feel depressed, focusing on others for a while gives you a break from thinking about yourself and your shortcomings.(刘金婷认为,这可能是因为如果你容易感到抑郁,将注意力集中在他人身上一段时间,可以让你从思考自己和自己的缺点中解脱出来。)” 故选A项。 根据第三段中的“After analyzing the results, the researchers found people who donated daily, even as little as one cent a day, felt significantly more positive than people on the waiting list.(分析结果后,研究人员发现,每天捐赠的人,即使每天只捐1美分,也比等待名单上的人感觉明显更积极。)”以及尾段中的“Interestingly, although people who gave more generously felt a bit happier and less depressed than those who gave less, the difference wasn’t big enough to be significant. This means even people with low means can make use of this simple activity.(有趣的是,尽管慷慨捐赠的人比捐赠较少的人感觉更快乐一点、抑郁更少一点,但这种差异还不够显著。这意味着即使是经济条件有限的人也可以利用这种简单的活动。)”可推断,这篇研究表示,即使是微小的善举也有帮助。故选C项。 D How do you beat the summer heat? If you’ re like most people, you turn the air conditioning on when it’s the hottest time of the day. But what if you could use nonpeak (非高峰的) electrical hours and store the cold to use the next day? This idea has become a reality for a New York City high-rise that’s being cooled by ice. Eleven Madison, a skyscraper in the heart of Manhattan, is using cool, frozen ice overnight to cool the building, reported CBS News. Four stories below ground, an ice battery system freezes water during the night, when electrical use is low, and uses this ice to cool the building during the day. “There’s about 500,000 pounds of ice created every night,” said Holly Paeper, president of Trane Technologies, a company that did the installation (装置) . Air conditioning uses nearly 20% of energy use in homes and businesses globally. However, on extremely hot days, that number can jump to 70%. Installations like the one in Eleven Madison help to lower that. According to Paeper, the company has installed the technology in about 4,000 sites worldwide. The system in the basement of Eleven Madison uses 100 tanks that are each the size of a parking spot. Because there’s a lot of energy consumed in freezing water, a more effective way had to be found. “We take water, and add some other elements in it,” explained Dr. Patrick Shamberger, an associate professor at Texas A&M. “So we can take control of that temperature basically anywhere we want it, in the zero to 20℃ range.” While ice batteries aren’t being used to cool food or to power electrical devices, they’re being used to cool buildings. For now, combining ice batteries with other types of energy storage from renewables can help the power grid (电网) to keep up in hot weather as well as lower the cost of electricity. It’s a win-win for all. 12. What does the author want to stress in paragraph 3? A. The necessity of ice batteries. B. The popularity of the technology. C. The features of the high-rise. D. The significance of air conditioning. 13. Why were some elements added in the water? A. To make the water cleaner. B. To use the energy fully. C. To control the temperature. D. To add space occupation. 14. What can be inferred about ice batteries according to the text? A. They are cheap to install. B. They are energy-saving. C. They are extremely harmful. D. They are used to cool food. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Process of Ice Battery Production B. Power-hungry Air Conditioning C. Advantages of Storing Electricity D. A Creative System for Cooling 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第三段中的“Air conditioning uses nearly 20% of energy use in homes and businesses globally. However, on extremely hot days, that number can jump to 70%. Installations like the one in Eleven Madison help to lower that.(全球范围内,空调消耗了家庭和企业近20%的能源。然而,在极端炎热的日子里,这个数字可能会飙升到70%。像Eleven Madison里的装置有助于降低这一比例。)”可知,作者通过说明空调能耗高的问题,强调了冰电池系统的必要性。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“We take water, and add some other elements in it. So we can take control of that temperature basically anywhere we want it, in the zero to 20℃ range.(我们先取来水,然后在其中加入一些其他物质。这样一来,我们就能在几乎任何我们想要的温度范围内(即 0 至 20 摄氏度之间)控制温度了。)”可知,在水中添加其他元素是为了控制温度。故选C项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Installations like the one in Eleven Madison help to lower that.(像Eleven Madison里的装置有助于降低这一比例。)”以及第五段中的“For now, combining ice batteries with other types of energy storage from renewables can help the power grid (电网) to keep up in hot weather as well as lower the cost of electricity. (目前,将冰电池与其他类型的可再生能源储存相结合,有助于电网在炎热天气下维持运行,并降低电力成本。)”可推断,冰电池是节能的。故选B项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文和第一段的“This idea has become a reality for a New York City high-rise that’s being cooled by ice.(这一想法如今已在纽约市的一座高层建筑中成为现实,该建筑通过使用冰块来实现降温。)” Good sportsmanship (体育精神) is important because it makes competitive play more enjoyable for everyone participating in the competition.___16___. The boy’s bright blue hair stood straight up, making him look both unique and nervous. He kept his eyes low, fingers tightly holding the shirt. Some kids whispered and others stared. “Take the seat beside, Leo,” Mr. Reed said gently, pointing to a boy in the back who was busy drawing. Leo looked up, and a playful smile formed as he noticed Kenji’s hair. At lunch, Leo couldn’t resist. He jumped up and stood near Kenji’s desk. “Listen, everyone!” he called out loudly. “Meet our new superhero—Blue Lightning!” He pointed right at Kenji’s hair. “Can you light up the room with that?” The class burst into laughter. Kenji’s face turned red. He felt everyone’s eyes on him, and his heart beat fast. Without a word, he rushed out to Mr. Reed’s office, tears building in his eyes. Mr. Reed offered Kenji some warm milk. “Your hair is special,” he said in a kind voice. “Being different is a good thing.” Later, Mr. Reed called Leo and talked with him. “Jokes should not hurt others,” he said seriously. “Laughing at someone can leave a deep hurt.” Leo nodded, but he still felt a little defensive. He was just trying to be funny. That afternoon, Leo saw Kenji walking home alone, head down. Leo remembered the sad look on Kenji’s face when everyone laughed. For the first time, he realized his joke wasn’t fun for everyone. Leo loved drawing and making people smile, but he never meant to make someone feel so small. All weekend, he thought about what he had done — and how he could make it right. On Monday morning, Leo came to school early, carrying the comic he had drawn. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just then, Mr. Reed entered and saw the two boys looking at the superhero comic together. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 On Monday morning, Leo came to school early, carrying the comic he had drawn. He carried a large paper roll under his arm. When Kenji entered the classroom, Leo walked over to him. “I’m sorry for what I did last week,” Leo said quietly. He unrolled the paper — it was a big comic strip showing Kenji as a hero with blue hair helping other students. “I drew this for you.” Kenji looked at the drawings. He saw himself helping others in the comic. Slowly, he smiled. “I like drawing too,” he replied. Just then, Mr. Reed entered and saw the two boys looking at the superhero comic together. “It looks like you’ve found something to share,” he said happily. Leo turned to the class. “I want to say sorry to Kenji. My joke wasn’t funny.” The classroom was quiet. Then one student started clapping. Soon, everyone was clapping. After that day, Leo and Kenji became good friends. They started a comic club where students drew stories about kindness. The class learned that everyone is different, and we need to respect each other. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 道歉:say sorry/ apologize/make an apology ② 展示:show/display/present ③ 创立:start/found/establish 情绪类 ① 开心地:happily/cheerfully/joyfully ②鼓掌:clap/applaud 【点睛】[高分句型1] He unrolled the paper — it was a big comic strip showing Kenji as a hero with blue hair helping other students.(使用现在分词showing作后置定语) [高分句型2]They started a comic club where students drew stories about kindness.(使用关系副词where引导定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025~2026学年高二年级12月月考 英语 考生注意: 1. 1. After floating (漂浮) for 55 days on the water, the five fishermen looked weathered, thin, but unbelievably alive. And as they hugged their families and felt solid ground under their feet, they knew their real journey was just beginning. 4. How did the fishermen possibly feel upon seeing the Ecuadorian boat? A. Hopeful. B. Embarrassed. C. Uneasy. D. Bored. 5. How did the fishermen keep their spirits high? A. By planning ways to return home. B. By competing in fishing contests. C. They were rushed to a hospital. C. They were greeted warmly. D. They were sent home quickly. 7. What did the fishermen’s story show? A. The appeal of ocean fishing. B. The power of human cooperation. C. The need for better first aid systems. D. The importance of advanced technology. C Giving has many benefits, but it isn’t always easy. D How do you beat the summer heat? ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
