All of her students knew she loved being a teacher. Her classroom was always a safe place where we were encouraged to share, think, and express ourselves. One of the memories that always stuck with me was a reading class when Ms. Moore read a story aloud and started to cry. The main character in the story reminded her of her grandmother. She paused to share about her relationship with her grandmother and made the connection as to how that relationship helped understand the story. Ms. Moore tried her best to make a connection with each student in her classroom. She knew what we liked and used that information to bring our interests into the classroom. She brought various types of books to our classroom and allowed us to take them home. It was she that helped my love for reading grow. Ms. Moore also went beyond classroom instruction. She decided that our school should have a choir and that all of her students should audition. Without her, I would never have taken part in this type of after-school activity. Once it was time for the annual 5th-grade weekend camping trip, my parents refused to let me attend. Ms. Moore came to my home to persuade them. Ms. Moore was a wonderful example of a caring teacher. From her, I’ve learned to make connections with students and look for ways to help them learn and feel successful. 1. Why did Ms. Moore cry in the reading class? A. The story was too sad. B. She was moved by the students. C. She thought of her own grandmother. D. She helped her students understand the story. 2 What can we learn about Ms. Moore from Paragraph3? A. She was good at writing books. B. She inspired the writer’s love for reading. C. She donated many books to poor students. D. She was the favorite teacher of the whole class. 3. Which of the following words best describe Ms. Moore? A. Responsible and caring. B. Positive and independent. C. Inspiring and strict. D. Knowledgeable and confident. B Doctors have long known that exercise is a good way to stay healthy. But few people get enough exercise. Only 20% of Americans get the enough 150 minutes of activity per week. More than 80 million Americans over age 6 are not active at all. It doesn’t help that many US schools have cut gym classes. Nearly half of high school students don’t have a weekly PE class. People leading an inactive life pay a price. They are at higher risk for serious health problems, including heart disease and cancer. Health experts want to let people know the benefits (好处) of exercise. The US-National Institutes of Health (NIH) is playing a key role in the effort. This year, it is carrying out a study. It will record in detail what happens inside a body during a workout. Through its research, the NIH hopes to prove scientifically that exercise is good medicine for health. The six-year, $170-million project will include a group of about 3,000 inactive people. The group will begin an exercise program. Their blood and fat will be studied before and after each workout. Scientists will look for clues (线索) to how the body changes with physical activity. A group that doesn’t exercise will also be studied, for comparison. Studies show that many good changes happen in the body during and after a workout. One of the best pieces of news is that much of what we already do acts as physical activity. “Cleaning the floor, walking the dog, washing the car — all that is exercise,” says Jack Berryman. He is a professor at Washington University School of Medicine, in Seattle. “Physical activity includes all movement, not just throwing a ball through a basket.” Berryman hopes the NIH study will give doctors the ability to provide patients with a detailed, personal workout plan. In the meantime, here is medicine for good health: Get active. 4. What can be inferred from the first paragraph? A. Exercise is good for learning. B. All people get enough exercise. C. Most Americans do not exercise enough. D Many schools think PE classes important. 5. What benefit can exercise bring? A. They cure cancer cases. B. They increase health. C. They improve grades in students. D. They reduce negative emotions. 6. What can be called an exercise according to the text? A. Taking a walk after dinner. B. Singing a song on the chair. C. Doing homework after class. D. Turning off the lights after school. 7. What is the best title for the text? A. Exercise for Health. B. Only Sports Are Exercise. C. Exercise Solves All Problems. D. Exercise Is for Sick People. C When we are young, we learn that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest animals. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito (蚊子). While it may seem that all mosquitoes are biters, this is not actually the case. Male mosquitoes eat plant nectar. On the other hand, female mosquitoes feed on animal blood. When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits (传播) saliva into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. The result of the bite can be minor or as serious as death. Because a mosquito can bite many people in its life, it can carry deadly diseases from one person to another very easily. More than 700 million people become sick from these diseases every year. At least 2 million of these people will die from these diseases. In some households mosquito nets are placed over beds to protect people against being bitten. Mosquitoes have many natural enemies like bats, birds, dragonflies, and certain kinds of fish. Bringing more of these animals into places where mosquitoes live might help to cut down the number of mosquitoes in that area. This is a natural solution, but it does not always work very well. Mosquitoes can also be killed with poisons or sprays. But these sprays may also harm other plants or animals. Although mosquitoes may not seem as scary as larger, more powerful animals, they are far more dangerous to human beings. But things are changing. It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. 8. Why does the passage mention dangerous animals like tigers and sharks? A. To compare different animals. B. To lead into the topic about mosquitoes. C. To show how dangerous tigers and sharks are. D. To show people’s misunderstanding of dangerous animals. 9. What can we learn about mosquitoes? A. Female mosquitoes might transmit diseases to humans. B. The saliva of female mosquitoes contains deadly diseases. C. Male mosquitoes and female mosquitoes have the same eating habits. D. More than 700 million people die from the diseases carried by the mosquitoes. 10. What’s paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Scientists are making efforts to kill mosquitoes. B. Some useful measures are taken to kill mosquitoes. C. There is no perfect solution to the mosquito problem. D. Mosquitoes’ natural enemies could protect human beings. 11. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of solving the mosquito problem? A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Unclear. D. Negative. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项是多余选项。 How to Have a Successful Teenage Life Everyone dreams of success in their life, don’t they? Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual. But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down on Henry and didn't want to play with him together. Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun. I’m glad to receive your letter asking about Chinese traditional festivals, and I’d like to introduce the Spring Festival to you. The Spring Festival falls on the first day of the first lunar month, which is the most important festival celebrated in China. On New Year’s Eve, families gather for a big reunion dinner and watch the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. During the festival, people decorate houses, set off fireworks, visit relatives and give kids lucky money in red envelopes. The festival carries the meaning of family reunion and wishes for a new year. I sincerely invite you to China to experience it. Looking forward to your reply! Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 【53题答案】 【答案】范文: Paragraph 1: It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Obviously, he was in a critical situation and at a loss what to do next. Just at that moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry raced to the riverside, took off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He swam to Robert as fast as possible. Fortunately, he reached Robert just when he was about to sink. With great effort and much danger to himself, he managed to bring Robert to the shore.  Paragraph 2: Thus, Robert's life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed of having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They apologized sincerely to Henry for their rude behaviour and asked for forgiveness. Henry did forgive them. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was — never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
