Lonely Planet has published its yearly list of top places to go. Whether you’re looking for adventure, culture, or value, there’s something for every type of traveler. Let’s explore the top picks for travel destinations in 2025. Top City: Nairobi Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, was chosen for its unique music and dance culture, and impressive local restaurants. Nairobi National Park, just a short drive out of the city’s central business district, is a must-see, where visitors can see over 400 species wandering the open grass plains while skyscrapers twinkle on the horizon. Top Country: Mongolia Mongolia is loved for its wide-open spaces, adventure activities, and unique food. The Mongolian government has announced 2023 through 2025 as the “Years to Visit Mongolia,” easing entry conditions for international travelers and improving public facilities, including a new $650 million airport. Top Sustainable Travel Destination: Spain The publisher also recommended Spain for the country’s efforts to expand renewable energy, to develop off-season travel, and to bring tourism to new destinations, such as the port city of Valencia, easing pressures on hot spots such as Barcelona. Top Best-Value Location: The American Midwest The American Midwest, including the cities of Chicago and Detroit, is also on the list, as it offers a high-quality travel experience at a reasonable cost. Visitors can enjoy excellent services and facilities, such as old warehouses transformed into art studios, new eco-design (环保设计) hotels, and Michelin-starred restaurants, without having to spend too much money. Where does the passage probably come from? A. An education paper B. A textbook C. A travel magazine D. An academic article B Living for 97 years is an impressive achievement in and of itself. Most people hitting this milestone are probably thankful for the health they have and the memories they’ve made. In the case of TV host and conservationist Sir David Attenborough, he can reflect on a life of advocacy in service for our planet. The British icon turned an impressive 97 on May 8, 2023. Born in 1926, Attenborough has spent most of his life on camera for the BBC covering animals and natural history. Today, despite his age, he is still an active campaigner for our planet. Attenborough, who received a degree in natural sciences from Cambridge University, joined the BBC full-time in 1952. He travelled around the world with his Zoo Quest programme, highlighting different creatures. Afterwards, he created his iconic series Life on Earth in 1979. Since then, he has created and starred in countless programmes which have brought nature closer to viewers around the world. His recent documentary with World Wildlife Fund, David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, often returns to a theme which has dominated in Attenborough’s later work. He reflects on just how much the environment has changed in his decades of observation and how swiftly time is running out before further serious damage can be prevented. This programme was widely streamed and considered a “wake up call” for the world. While Attenborough is far from the first or only voice to raise this call, his reach as a respected and powerful figure within the BBC provides a useful platform. Although he has received countless awards, Attenborough has used recent accolades (荣誉) as a chance to focus once more on the planet. Shortly after winning the Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022, he sent an urgent message about the state of the planet to all viewers in Frozen Planet II. Even after his 97th birthday, he continues to write and speak on preserving the UK and the world for future generations. 4. What does Sir David Attenborough spend all his life on? A Taking photos using a camera. B. Creating countless programmes. C. Protecting the earth. D. Observing different creatures. 5. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us? A. His learning and work experiences. B. His achievements in natural science. C. His programmes on protecting nature. D. His iconic series on different creatures. 6. Based on paragraph 3, what can we know about Sir David Attenborough? A. He is the first to appeal to people to protect the environment. B. He is an influential figure highly thought of. C. He reflects on how much damage can be prevented. D. He spends decades in observing endangered animals. 7. Which words can best describe Sir David Attenborough? A. Optimistic and self-centered. B. Dependent and hard-working. C. Warm-hearted and humorous. D. Determined and devoted. C Geologists have long been fascinated by a missing piece of Earth’s history—a lost continent called Argoland. Around 155 million years ago, the 5,000-kilometer continent broke off from Western Australia and began drifting (漂移), leaving behind a basin deep below the ocean known as the Argo Abyssal Plain. But where did Argoland actually go? The seabed structure suggests that the continent drifted northwestward and ended up in Southeast Asia. But surprisingly, there is no large continent hidden beneath those islands, only small continental fragments (碎片) surrounded by ancient oceanic basins. Using this theory, geologists at Utrecht University discovered that Argoland hadn’t really disappeared but survived as a “very extended and fragmented collection” under the islands to the east of Indonesia. Unlike other continents like Africa and South America, which broke neatly into two pieces, Argoland split into many smaller fragments that were dispersed, which made it difficult for scientists to locate and study the continent’s geological features. However, with advanced technology and the discovery, scientists can now piece them together. Tracing the continents is vital for understanding processes like the evolution of biodiversity. It could help explain something known as the mysterious Wallace line, which is an imaginary boundary that separates mammals, birds, and even early human species in Southeast Asian islands. The boundary has puzzled scientists because of how clearly it separates the island’s wildlife. To the west of the line are placental mammals like apes and elephants. But these are almost completely absent to the east, where you can find Marsupials and cockatoos— animals typically associated with Australia. Researchers have theorized that this may be because Argoland carried its own wildlife away from Australia before it crashed into Southeast Asia, which helps explain why different species are found in different nations. The story of Argoland is not one of complete disappearance but of transformation. As the world continues to evolve, this lost continent serves as a powerful symbol of the fragility of life on this planet, and a reminder of the importance of respecting and protecting the world that we live in. 8. What is the purpose of paragraph one? A. To explain a concept. B. To advocate a culture. C. To introduce a topic. D. To confirm an assumption. 9. Why does the author mention Africa and South America in paragraph 3? A. To remind scientists of piecing them together. B. To explain how Argoland broke off by comparison. C. To show how difficult for scientists to find Argoland. D. To show how scientists located Argoland. 10 What is the fourth paragraph mainly about? A. The source of different species. B The process of Argoland disappearing. C. The measure about searching for Argoland. D. The importance of continuing to trace the continents. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. Argoland: the wonder of species. B. Argoland: the reappearance of a lost land. C. Continents: the proof of fragility of life. D Continents: the reminder of protection to the world. D According to a new study described by researchers as a global breakthrough, plants are not as silent as we once thought they were. They do make sounds, particularly when injured or stressed — just not ones that we can hear with our ears. Researchers recorded and analyzed sounds produced by plants and discovered that they can give off clicking sounds at a volume similar to human speech, but too high for human ears to pick it up. In order to seclude the plants to ensure that any sound picked up by recording equipment could only be coming from the plants and not the atmosphere around them, researchers at Tel Aviv University placed plants in an acoustic (声学的) box in an environment with no background noise. The plant types used in this study were mainly tomato and tobacco plants. Researchers used recording equipment capable of picking up frequencies between 20 and 250 kilohertz, reaching more than 15 times higher than the maximum frequency the average adult can hear. In the greenhouse setting, they also recorded a group of tomato and tobacco plants as they grew increasingly dehydrated (脱水的), and found that their sound outpost increased steadily for the following four to five days after being watered, and then decreased. Essentially, the thirstier the plants got, the louder they complained — until they reached a certain critical stage of dehydration, at which point their voices quieted as they dried up. The researchers also found that dehydrated tomato and tobacco plants produced an average of about 35 and 11 sounds per hour, respectively. Cut tomato and tobacco plants made 25 and 15 noises per hour. Healthy plants, on the other hand, produced far fewer sounds, at less than one per hour. Recording these sounds could help inform farmers about which of their crops are most in need of water, allowing for more precise irrigation, which could be a step forward for agriculture. “When more and more areas are exposed to drought due to climate change, efficient water use becomes even more critical for food security. We believe that humans can use this information, given the right tools — such as sensors that tell growers when plants need watering,” said Lilach Hadany, a professor from the School of Plant Sciences and Food Security at the Wise Faculty of Life Sciences. 12. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph one? A. To state research methods. B. To present research findings. C. To clarify the purposes of the research. D. To explain the significance of the research. 13. What does the underlined word “seclude” in paragraph two probably mean? A. Protect B. Develop C. separate D. Discover 14. What do we know about the experiment? A. Plants make sounds more frequently for lack of water. B. Cut plants produce louder sounds than dehydrated ones. C. Sounds coming from plants are hard to pick up by devices. D. Plants produce few sounds in the greenhouse environment. 15. Which of the following would LiLach Hadany agree with? A. Humans have the duty to consider climate change. B. Plants have ability to adapt to drought. C. Water is not a key to food security. D. The new study is worthy of applying to agriculture. Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognize, interpret and process emotions in yourself and others. His adoption papers, signed and sealed when he was three months old, listed a sibling (兄弟姐妹) named Vincent but no last name. Though Kieron spent years thinking about Vincent, he could never track him down. That changed in December 2017, when Kieron’s adoptive parents gave their four adopted children AncestryDNA tests (基因检测) as Christmas gifts. Kieron, now 21, sent his saliva (唾液) sample in for analysis. When his results came back, he was amazed to find he had a lot of DNA matches for relatives who had also taken the test. Most were distant connections, but one match was so strong that it was labeled “close family”. His name was Vincent Ghant. Kieron looked for him on Facebook and soon made a possible connection. “This is going to sound so wild— but I think you’re my brother,” Kieron wrote on Facebook’s Messenger app. “I was given up for adoption in 1997 and it says on my paperwork that my mother has a son with your name and your birth date. Her name is Shawn.” “OMG do you know your real name?” wrote Vincent, now 30. “I think it was Tyler.” “OMG YES!!! You are my brother.” “Wow,” wrote Kieron. “This is crazy,” said Vincent. The craziness was just beginning. As they talked, the brothers realized they lived about 20 minutes from each other, outside of Atlanta. More mind-blowing (令人震惊的), they attended the same university and majored and minored in the same subjects: political science and legal studies. “We might be separated our entire lives and then end up at the same school with the same interests?” says Kieron. Vincent was nine when Kieron was born and remembers caring for his baby brother. But times were tough, and Shawn, who worked 15-plus hours a day as a nurse, decided that placing Kieron for adoption would give him the best chance to succeed. Now the brothers had the chance to make up for lost time. They decided to meet at a local tea shop that week. “I was really nervous” says Kieron. “I was wondering what I should say, what I should do.” As he waited outside the shop, he heard someone call his name. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One of Vincent’s concerns was that Kieron might hate his birth family for placing him for adoption. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025—2026学年高二教学目标测评卷 英语试题 (考试时间:100分钟 试卷满分:120分) 第一部分 听力(略) 第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Lonely Planet’s Top Places to Go in 2025 Are you looking for inspiration for your next travel destination? D 11. 根据第一段中的“Geologists have long been fascinated by a missing piece of Earth’s history—a lost continent called Argoland.(地质学家们长期以来一直对地球历史上一块缺失的部分——名为Argoland的失落大陆——着迷。)”以及结尾的“But where did Argoland actually go?(但Argoland究竟去了哪里?)” 根据第三段中的“Unlike other continents like Africa and South America, which broke neatly into two pieces, Argoland split into many smaller fragments that were dispersed(与非洲和南美洲等其他大陆整齐地分裂成两块不同,Argoland分裂成许多分散的小碎片)”可知,作者提及非洲和南美洲是为了通过对比,说明Argoland的分裂方式(碎片化分散)与其他大陆的不同。 根据第四段中“Tracing the continents is vital for understanding processes like the evolution of biodiversity.(追踪这些大陆对于理解生物多样性进化等过程至关重要。)” D According to a new study described by researchers as a global breakthrough, plants are not as silent as we once thought they were. D The new study is worthy of applying to agriculture. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段“According to a new study described by researchers as a global breakthrough, plants are not as silent as we once thought they were. They do make sounds (一项被研究人员称为全球性突破的新研究表明,植物并不像我们曾经认为的那样沉默。它们确实会发出声音)”以及“but too high for human ears to pick it up (但频率太高,人耳无法捕捉到)”可知,这些都是对研究结果的直接陈述。 根据第二段“In order to seclude the plants to ensure that any sound picked up by recording equipment could only be coming from the plants and not the atmosphere around them (为了将植物____,确保录音设备捕捉到的声音只来自植物本身,而不是它们周围的环境)”可知,研究人员需要排除外界噪音对植物本身声音的干扰,由此可推知seclude意为“隔离、分开”,与C选项“separate (分离,隔开)”语义接近。 根据第三段“the thirstier the plants got, the louder they complained (植物越“渴”,它们就“抱怨”得越大声)”以及“dehydrated tomato and tobacco plants produced an average of about 35 and 11 sounds per hour, respectively (脱水的番茄和烟草植株平均每小时分别发出约35声和11声)”可知,缺水时植物发声更频繁。故选A项。 根据最后一段““When more and more areas are exposed to drought due to climate change, efficient water use becomes even more critical for food security. We believe that humans can use this information, given the right tools — such as sensors that tell growers when plants need watering,” said Lilach Hadany (Lilach Hadany说,当越来越多的地区因气候变化而面临干旱时,有效利用水资源对粮食安全变得更加重要。我们相信,只要有合适的工具——比如传感器,告诉种植者植物何时需要浇水,人类便可以利用这些信息)”可推得,Lilach Hadany认为该项研究能够应用于农业上,用来反映农作物是否缺水,具有研究的意义。故选D项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognize, interpret and process emotions in yourself and others. No sooner had he turned around than he found a person who was similar to him. Seized by a wave of excitement, he walked quickly to that man, waved at him and said “Nice to meet you!” Holding his hand tightly, the man, Vincent, embraced Kieron and said “Long time no see, my brother.” They went to the shop and sat down, talking about their lives happily. But it seemed that Vincent had some concerns. One of Vincent’s concerns was that Kieron might hate his birth family for placing him for adoption. But Kieron said that he had already forgiven their mother, who was also living a poor life at that time. “I spent years thinking about you, but I could never track you down.” said Kieron. “But we’re together now.” Vincent smiled, whose words made Kieron feel warm. At that moment, they decided to visit their mom the next day, and for the first time, Kieron and Vincent felt that they were siblings. Sunlight brightened them, as if it were celebrating their reunion. 1】No sooner had he turned around than he found a person who was similar to him.(运用了 no sooner... than... 2】Sunlight brightened them, as if it were celebrating their reunion.(运用 as if 引导的方式状语从句和虚拟语气) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
