I met my husband in our early 20s when we worked together. We were both very ambitious and loved our jobs. But just after we got married, I became pregnant (怀孕的). For six years, I was a stay-at-home mum.
I did enjoy it when the kids were little, but when they both started school, I began to feel bored and restless. So I got in touch with an old colleague and she offered me a job. However, my husband said that he earned enough salary so he couldn’t countenance that. He put lots of barriers (障碍) in my way. For example, he said that he wouldn’t be able to take any time off if the kids were off school.
It’s not just about the income for me. But it’s more the sense of achievement that comes with working. I miss the jokes and the sense of achievement after a good day. I know it won’t be easy but I want to give it a try.
So why is my husband so unsupportive? My friend, Coleen, says, “Because he’s incredibly selfish. I know exactly how you feel. I also got increasingly bored in my kitchen every day when my kids were at school so I went out and got a little part-time job in a shop. My husband didn’t like it at first either, but he soon got used to it. So stick to your goals. If he really insists and refuses to help you, then prove to him that you don’t need his help anyway.”
24. Why did the author want to find a job?
A. She felt bored and restless. B. She was fed up with the housework.
C. She wanted to make more money. D. She was tired of educating her kids.

A. She is eager to work. B. She enjoys housework.
C. Her husband offers her a job. D. She is too busy to look after her kids.
27. What is Coleen’s attitude towards women going out to work?
A. Indifferent. B. Doubtful.
C. Supportive. D. Uncertain.

Instant noodles are a favorite quick meal when people don’t want to cook. Picture eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort! But many believe they’re just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.
The main issue isn’t the noodles themselves, but the common way people make them: pouring boiling water over dried noodles and adding all the salty seasoning packets. These flavor packets contain high levels of salt and artificial additives (人工添加剂), making this version unbalanced and unhealthy.
Actually, plain instant noodles aren’t terrible. They’re fried during production (which adds some oil and calories), but they fill you up well and provide quick energy when you’re hungry. To make them healthier, cook them properly: boil the noodles first, drain excess starchy (含有淀粉的) water, then use fresh water or broth (肉汤). Crucially, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This boosts vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal!
So, are instant noodles junk food? If prepared lazily with all the seasoning and no extras, yes. But when cooked with less seasoning plus veggies and protein, they become a decent occasional meal. Remember: the secret is variety. Enjoy them once or twice a week as part of a diverse diet, and they won’t harm your health. They’re far less scary than people think — just upgrade your cooking method!
28. What determines if instant noodles are unhealthy?
A. Their quick cooking time. B. The time of eating.
C. The preparation method. D. The junk food label.
29. What is the major cause of unhealthy instant noodles?
A. The dried noodles. B. The flavor packets.
C. Using boiling water. D. People avoiding cooking.
30. What is the main purpose of the third paragraph?
A. Warn about health dangers. B. Give cooking instructions.
C. Argue noodles are harmless. D. List harmful additives.
31. What is the suitable title for the passage?
A. Instant Noodles: Not All Waste. B. Instant Noodles: How to Cook?
C. Instant Noodles: Eat Sometimes. D. Instant Noodles: What we know?
D
Sometimes what my seven-year-old tabby cat Ophelia wants is obvious. Crying in front of her empty food bowl at dinner time clearly indicates she’s at risk of starvation. Other times, though, her meows are a complete and total mystery.
That’s where Sergei Dreizin and Mark Boyes, computer scientists at Akvelon, a software engineering company based in Bellevue, Washington, say they can help. They are the brains behind the MeowTalk app, which aims to “give cat owners the best tools available” for interpreting their pet’s needs.
When Boyes and Dreizin were looking for data to inform their new app, they came across 2019 research that revealed cat meows contain certain shared characteristics. The study authors then built a computer program to analyze audio recordings of 21 adult cats meowing.
The MeowTalk founders used these audio recordings of tens of thousands of meows to develop their computer models, which is fueled by artificial intelligence. And it worked. 2021 study found MeowTalk can classify nine feline (猫科的) phrases with 90 percent accuracy.
The free app records your feline’s meows and translates them into a small range of phrases, such as “I’m annoyed.” and “Feed me!” Users can rate the accuracy of MeowTalk’s translations, which further improves the computer model. Launched in November 2020, the app has been downloaded over 20 million times, and Dreizin estimates that the program has analyzed over a billion meows to date. “We’re the largest depositors of meows in this galaxy,” he quips.
The app is part of an expanding suite of technologies designed to help us communicate with our furry friends. Another is FluentPet, which trains your pet to press buttons to communicate a need; for instance, a cat can learn to press a button that says the word “play”.
Cat behaviorist and communication expert Charlotte de Mouzon isn’t convinced of these products’ accuracy, but strengthening your relationship with your cat is always a wise goal. “If people play with the app, maybe they will become more attentive to their cats,” says de Mouzon, of Paris Nanterre University.
32. How can computer scientists at Akvelon help cat owners?
A. By making cats’ needs fulfilled.
B. By getting cats rid of starvation.
C. By filling the empty food bowls.
D. By solving the mysteries of cats’ meows.
33. What can be inferred from paragraph 5?
A. Users think the app very helpful.
B. Users can help to promote the app.
C. Dreizin thinks the app is the most accurate.
D. The program has analyzed billions of meows.
34. What’s Charlotte’s attitude to this kind of apps?
A. Doubtful. B. Conservative. C. Positive. D. Negative.
35. What is the purpose of the the text?
A. To comment on two apps.
B. To compare two similar apps.
C. To introduce the new technology.
D. To recommend an app to cats’ owners.

Tim was a senior high school student who loved giving nicknames (绰号) to his classmates. However, almost all the nicknames he came up with were meant to mock (嘲笑) his classmates. For example, he called Lisa “Big Glasses” just because she wore thick-framed glasses to see clearly. Mike, who was a little heavier than others, was given the nickname “Fatty” by Tim.
The classmates didn’t like Tim’s behavior at all. Lisa once told Tim sadly, “Please don’t call me ‘Big Glasses’ anymore. It really hurts my feelings.” Mike also warned Tim, “If you keep calling me ‘Fatty’, I won’t talk to you.” But Tim paid no attention to their words. He thought it was all in good fun and often laughed when he called others by those nicknames.
Gradually, no one wanted to hang out with Tim. During breaks, while other students were chatting and playing together in the classroom or on the playground, Tim always sat alone in his seat. Sometimes he tried to join a group of classmates, but they would simply drift away. Tim felt a bit lonely, but he still didn’t realize that his habit of giving bad nicknames was the reason.
One afternoon, Tim stayed in the classroom to finish his math homework. Sam, whom Tim regarded as his good friend, came in with two other boys. Tim didn’t make a sound, so they didn’t notice him. He heard Sam say, “Tim is so boring. He only knows how to give foolish nicknames to others. I call him ‘Nickname Freak’ behind his back.” The other boys laughed. Tim’s heart sank. He finally understood how hurtful those nicknames were and how impolite and disrespectful his behavior was.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;

M: Whenever I work with my patients on improving their health, we start by asking a simple question, “Who is the most important person in your life?” Many people answer that the most important person is their child, their parent, their husband or wife or others they love. But the real answer is YOU! You are the most important person in your life!
Most of us were raised to believe that putting ourselves first is selfish. But the reality is that when we take care of ourselves, we have even more to give to others. When someone says “I don’t have time to take care of myself”, what does that really mean? It means you don’t think your basic needs are worthy of care. The truth is that when you don’t take care of yourself, every part of your body suffers. When you don’t eat right, your cells suffer. When you let stress get to you, your cells suffer. All that damage actually ages you and makes you more likely to suffer from diseases. So what is the first step you should take on your journey to a younger, healthier, and happier you? Make yourself the most important person in your life.

C 29. B 30. B 31. A
根据第一段中的“The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.(事实上,它们是否不健康完全取决于你如何制备它们。)”
根据第二段“The main issue isn’t the noodles themselves, but the common way people make them: pouring boiling water over dried noodles and adding all the salty seasoning packets. These flavor packets contain high levels of salt and artificial additives (人工添加剂), making this version unbalanced and unhealthy.(主要问题不在于面条本身,而在于人们制作面条的常见方式:将沸水倒在干面条上,并加入所有咸味调料包。这些调味包含有高含量的盐和人工添加剂,使这种版本不平衡和不健康。)”可知,方便面健康风险的核心诱因在于调味包中过量的钠盐与人工合成添加剂。故选B。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“To make them healthier, cook them properly: boil the noodles first, drain excess starchy (含有淀粉的) water, then use fresh water or broth (肉汤). Crucially, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This boosts vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal!
通读全文,根据文章第一段“Instant noodles are a favorite quick meal when people don’t want to cook. Picture eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort! But many believe they’re just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.(方便面是人们不想做饭时最喜欢的快餐。想象一下在暴风雨的夜晚边看电视边吃它们的情景——纯粹的安慰!但许多人认为它们只是危害健康的垃圾食品。事实上,它们是否不健康完全取决于你如何制备它们。)”等内容可知。文章主要讨论了方便面是否属于不健康食品的争议,指出其健康性取决于烹饪方式。所以选项A. Instant Noodles: Not All Waste.(方便面:并非全无是处)最能概括文意,适合用作标题。故选A。
D
Sometimes, what my seven-year-old tabby cat Ophelia wants is obvious.
C By filling the empty food bowls.
D 33. B 34. A 35. C

根据第五段“Users can rate the accuracy of MeowTalk’s translations, which further improves the computer model.(用户可以评价MeowTalk翻译的准确性,这进一步改进了计算机模型。)”
根据最后一段“Cat behaviorist and communication expert Charlotte de Mouzon isn’t convinced of these products’ accuracy, but strengthening your relationship with your cat is always a wise goal.(猫的行为学家和交流专家Charlotte de Mouzon不相信这些产品的准确性,但加强你和你的猫的关系总是一个明智的目标。)” 故选A。
根据第六段“The app is part of an expanding suite of technologies designed to help us communicate with our furry friends. 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章阐述养狗的诸多益处,包括让人更活跃、有益心脏健康、使人平静及促进社交等,说明养狗能改善生活。
【36题详解】
根据上文“There’s a reason why dogs are called man’s best friends. A good friend is faithful, will be there to pick you up when you’re down, will keep you on track to reach your goals, and will just be there for you as company. (狗被称为人类最好的朋友是有原因的。好朋友是忠诚的,会在你情绪低落时鼓励你,会帮助你坚持实现目标,并且会一直陪伴在你身边。)” 以及下文“The mental, physical and social benefits of caring for a dog — or any other pet, for that matter — are in large numbers. (照顾一只狗——或者任何其他宠物——所带来的心理、生理和社会益处是众多的。)” 可知,上文作者将狗比作人类最好的朋友,并列举了好朋友的特质。本空位于该比喻之后,应承接这一比喻,说明狗正是能提供这些支持的朋友。D选项“And that’s exactly what a dog can do for its owner. (这正是狗狗能为它的主人所做的。)”完美承接上文对“好朋友”的描述,引出下文关于养狗好处的具体论述,实现了自然过渡,符合题意。故选D。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Owning a dog keeps you active. (养狗能让你保持活力。)”可知,本段讨论养狗能促进主人保持活跃。本空位于该主题句之后,应解释其原因。E选项“Dogs are naturally energetic and love to play and exercise. (狗天生精力充沛,喜欢玩耍和运动。)”解释了为什么养狗能让人活跃——因为狗自身需要运动,从而促使主人也动起来。并且该选项与下文“dog owners are often inspired toward an active lifestyle to satisfy their dog’s needs”逻辑一致。故选E。
根据下文“Owning a dog has many heart-healthy benefits, such as a decrease in blood pressure, decreasing the risk of heart disease. (养狗对心脏健康有很多益处,比如降低血压,减少患心脏病的风险。)”可知,本段讨论养狗对心脏健康的益处。空处需作为本段总起句,概括养狗与心脏健康的关系,A选项“Keeping a dog makes you live longer. (养狗能让你活得更久。)”是对本段内容的概括,因为降低心脏病风险、降低血压等益处最终可能延长寿命,且A选项中“makes you live longer”与下文“One study showed that non-dog owners who had survived a heart attack were more likely to die within a year than dog owners.” 故选A。
本段主题为“养狗让人更平静”,根据上文“Dogs provide a calming and familiar presence.
本段主题是“养狗能促进与他人的交流”,根据上文“Dogs provide a natural connection with other people and are great conversation starters. (狗狗能与其他人建立天然的联系,是开启对话的绝佳话题。)”可知,提到狗是聊天的开端,并列举了常见话题。空白处需说明这些话题的作用,F选项“These conversation starters lead to an immediate social connection. (这些开场白能迅速建立起社交联系。)”中的“these conversation starters”指代上文提到的关于狗的常见问题和评论,呼应了“促进交流”的主题,并解释了狗如何帮助主人与他人产生互动。故选F。

That night, Tim could barely sleep. He kept thinking about what Sam had said and the sad faces of his classmates when he had nicknamed them. Early the next morning, Tim made a decision: he would change. When he got to the classroom, Lisa was reading a book. Instead of saying “Big Glasses”, Tim said politely, “Hi, Lisa.” Lisa looked up, surprised. Then Mike came in, and Tim greeted him, “Morning, Mike.” Mike was also shocked. Tim took a deep breath before saying to both of them, “I’m sorry for giving you bad nicknames before. I won’t do that anymore.”
After Tim apologized, something nice happened. Lisa smiled and said, “It’s okay, Tim. We’re glad you realized that.” Mike nodded and added, “Yeah, let’s be friends again.” Soon, other classmates heard about Tim’s apology. During the break, some students came to talk to Tim. They chatted about homework and hobbies. Tim felt happy because he was no longer lonely. Day by day, Tim always called his classmates by their real names. He also learned to care about others’ feelings. In the end, Tim built a positive and respectful relationship with his classmates, and he truly understood the importance of mutual respect.
