Do you know villains in comic books? They harm others or break the law to get what they want. Another thing is that they often wear costumes in green and purple colors, and some even have green or purple skin. But why do they wear these colors? Let’s find out.
First, let’s look at culture and history. In Shakespeare’s play Othello, a character warns another about envy and calls it a “green-eyed monster”. This is where the saying “green with envy” comes from. However, even before this play, people connected the color green with negative (消极的) feelings. The ancient Greeks believed that when a person was sick, their skin might turn green because of too much bile (胆汁). Over time, green has come to stand for sickness, envy—feelings that are often found in villains.
But what about purple? The color purple is often connected with power. It is not a color that we see a lot in nature, and in ancient times, purple dye (染料) was very hard to make. This made it rare and expensive, so only the most powerful people could afford it. So, when a villain is shown wearing purple, it suggests they are powerful or think of themselves as powerful. It also shows that they want respect from others.
Now, let’s look at color theory (理论). We have three primary colors—red, yellow, and blue. If you mix any two primary colors, you get one of the three secondary colors—orange, purple or green. Most superheroes wear at least one primary color, and some have all three. If heroes wear bright primary colors, comic artists often use secondary colors like green and purple for villains. This way, even if you don’t know the story or the characters, you can quickly tell the heroes and villains just from their colors.
24.According to the colour theory, what colour should we use for Superman?
A.Red. B.Purple. C.Green. D.Orange.
25.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A.How Shakespeare’s play Othello became popular.
B.Where the saying “green-eyed monster” comes from.
C.Why ancient Greeks thought people’s skin turned green when they were sick.
D.What the connection between green and negative feelings in history and culture is.
26.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Comic villains wear green or purple only to show they want to be powerful.
B.Purple became a symbol of power mainly because it appears often in nature.
C.Green and purple are secondary colors formed by mixing two primary colors.
D.Before Shakespeare’s Othello, people had no connection between the color green and negative feelings.
【答案】24.A 25.D 26.C

26.细节理解题。根据“If you mix any two primary colors, you get one of the three secondary colors—orange, purple or green.”可知,绿色和紫色是由两种原色混合而成的二次色。故选C。

(Buck was one of Hal’s sled dogs (雪橇犬). Hal, with his sled team, was heading towards Dawson, passing by Thornton’s camp.)
These people treated each other badly, but they treated their animals even worse. Hal was mean to the dogs. Through it all, Buck staggered (蹒跚) along at the head of the team as if he were in a nightmare. He pulled when he could, and when he could not, he fell down and stayed down while the people pushed and whipped (鞭打) him until he could get up again. He was so skinny that every rib and bone of his body was outlined through his skin. It was heartbreaking, but Buck’s heart was unbreakable.
The journey seemed like a slow march (行进) toward death. When they reached the camp by the river, Buck finally fell on the trail and lay still, unable to rise again.
This was the first time Buck had failed, and this made Hal very angry. He struck (打) Buck with the whip, then with the club (棍棒) when the whip no longer seemed enough. Blow after blow fell, but Buck did not move. He could feel life slipping away, but somewhere inside him, a small fire still burned—the desire (渴望) to live, though he no longer had the power to fight for it.
Suddenly, without warning, John Thornton jumped at Hal and knocked him backward. Mercedes screamed. John Thornton stood over Buck and tried to control himself, too angry to speak.
“If you hurt that dog again, I’ll hit you again,” he finally said.
“It’s my dog,” Hal replied as he came back. “Get out of my way, or I’ll fix you. I’m going to Dawson.”
“Not with that dog,” Thornton said.
“Be careful, Hal,” Mercedes cried out in fear. “We don’t want any trouble.”
“You keep out of this,” Hal answered her.
All this while Thornton stood between Hal and Buck and made no move to get out of the way. Hal lifted his whip. Thornton hit Hal’s knuckles (指关节) with the ax handle, knocking the whip to the ground. Then he took out his knife and set Buck free from the sled. Hal was too tired to fight, and Buck was too tired to keep on the team, anyway.
“All right,” Hal finally said to Thornton. “You win. Keep that worthless dog. We don’t need him anyway.”
—Adapted from The Call of the Wild
27.What words best describe Buck according to the text?
A.Tired and hopeless. B.Hard-working and happy.
C.Weak but hopeful. D.Strong but lazy.
28.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Buck’s life. B.Hal’s whip. C.The blow. D.The journey.
29.Why did John Thornton jump at Hal suddenly without warning?
A.Because Hal stole something from Thornton before.
B.Because Thornton wanted to stop Hal from hitting Buck.
C.Because Hal kept hurting Mercedes cruelly with a whip and club.
D.Because Buck cried loud for help.
30.What can we infer from the text?
A.Buck was the thinnest dog and played a small part in the team.
B.Hal was afraid of Thornton so he gave up Buck at last.
C.Thornton wouldn’t treat Buck as a tool cruelly as Hal did.
D.The journey to Dawson was full of laughter and warmth.

Travel is more than taking photos and buying gifts. When we leave our daily lives behind, we open the door to a bigger world. 31 In this passage I will explain why middle-school students should be encouraged to travel.
First of all, travel trains our life skills. On a trip we must read maps, ask strangers for help and plan the money we have. 32 These problems may be hard, but they teach us to think quickly and make wise decisions. The earlier we practise these skills, the more independent we will become.
Second, travel helps us understand different cultures. A classmate of mine once laughed at a visitor who ate with his hands. But after he had a tour to India, he saw that eating by hand is a traditional and popular way to show respect for food. 33 Travel teaches us that “different” does not mean “wrong”.
Third, travel makes textbook knowledge (知识) alive. A geography lesson about mountains becomes real when you stand on Mount Huangshan at sunrise. 34 When knowledge comes with sights, sounds and feelings, it is kept in mind longer and deeper.
Some parents worry that they spend too much money traveling. In fact, a one-day visit to a nearby town or even a planned walk through an old street is also travel. 35 What matters is not the distance (距离), but the open eyes and mind.
In short, travel is a hidden class that improves our skills, widens our minds and strengthens our knowledge. Let’s pack our curiosity and start the journey—near or far—this weekend!
A.It doesn’t have to be expensive or far.
B.It is a living textbook that you never learn in class.
C.Suddenly, the cold numbers on the page jump into life.
D.The history you have learned turns into colourful stories.
E.Language difficulties, wrong turns or missed buses often happen.
F.If we have enough money, we should travel abroad as often as possible.
G.Without such experiences, we may think our own habits are the only right ones.
