After graduating from Ontario College of Teachers, I became a teacher at a one-room country school in Aldborough Township.
That first day of school as a 19-year-old female teacher was a frightening experience. It was one thing to have graduated as a successful student; it was another thing to face a classroom of little faces that were waiting for the “new teacher”. I had a classroom of 21 children of different shapes and sizes. The youngest was five going on six and the eldest was 16.
There were two doors for entrance in my school, one for the girls, one for the boys and just inside each door was a chemical toilet — no outdoor facilities for us! The heat in the building was a wood-burning furnace (火炉) down in the basement. Tending the furnace was one of my responsibilities. Luckily, I knew a bit about starting a fire, so the school didn’t burn down.
What I found most difficult was that a parent might take a child out of school for any reason. I had one Dutch family, whose father would keep the children out of school to help with the farm work. Finally, I got tired of this and sent an education officer to solve the problem. Needless to say, I was very unpopular with that father from then on, but the children came to school much more regularly!
In the classroom, the older students helped the younger ones with learning, as well as with putting on coats and hats. If someone’s lunch was forgotten, everyone shared a bit of their food.We were a family. We had good times and bad times, but we kept learning. Far beyond maths, social studies, reading, grammar and writing, we learned how to get along with each other.
I loved teaching at this small school and knew I was teaching the children about life as much as about subjects. I’d like to believe some students will have an influence on the world that will last long after I am gone.
24.Why did the author feel her first day as a teacher frightening?
A.So many students were in class.
B.The situations were quite different.
C.No outdoor facilities were provided.
D.The students were curious about her.
25.What do we know about the school?
A.It was poorly equipped.
B.The playground was large.
C.It was once damaged by a fire.
D.The students were of similar age.
26.What was a headache for the author?
A.A Dutch family hated her.
B.The students preferred farm work.
C.The education officer offered little help.
D.Some parents ignored children’s education.
27.What can be inferred from Paragraph 5?
A.They cared about each other.
B.They had an influence on the world.
C.They laughed away bad times.
D.They did well in almost every subject.
C
It was early spring and my mother worked the soil into a ridge (隆起部分) for sweet potatoes on the edge of her garden. She planted sweet corn next. When I saw the plants, I was really excited.I thought it was really amazing. This gave me an idea.So one day when my mother was working in the garden again, I said to her, “Mum, can I have some space in your garden?”
My mum looked as if she couldn’t believe her ears. I was just six years old then, after all.
“Why do you want some space?” she asked.“I want to grow some plants, too,” I said.
“What plants do you want to grow?” asked my mum.
I thought of some marigold (万寿菊) seeds I had saved from my grandma’s garden, so I told her I wanted to grow that kind of flower.
My mother didn’t answer me immediately. She looked at her plants. All that she had grown were vegetables. I didn’t know what she was thinking back then, but now I do. She didn’t want to waste her garden space. But at last she said, “OK. You can do that.”
I was very happy when I heard that. My mother then gave me a 4-by-4-foot square of space in the garden. With my mother’s guidance, I happily planted the seeds in my small “garden”. Then I watered them. In the following days I waited for the seedlings to appear. When I finally saw some, I let out cries of joy.
I have fallen in love with gardening ever since. I was lucky that I could work in a “garden” of my own when I was little. Today many children living in cities can’t have such fun. But their parents can still take them out to enjoy nature in the wild.It can bring them great joy, believe me!
28.What did the author want to do when she saw the plants grown by her mum?
A.To learn to grow vegetables.
B.To have her own garden space.
C.To observe the plants every day.
D.To help her mother in the garden.
29.How did the author’s mother feel about the author’s request?
A.Surprised. B.Excited.
C.Interested. D.Worried.
30.What was the author’s mother most probably thinking then?
A.She should plant some flowers.
B.She should grow more vegetables.
C.She would have to waste some space.
D.She had a lot of garden space to spare.
31.Why does the author share her story?
A.To introduce marigolds to gardeners.
B.To show today’s children live a boring life.
C.To advise people to buy houses with gardens.
D.To encourage parents to take their kids to nature.

Conflict (冲突) between teenagers and parents happens for a lot of reasons. Sometimes conflict happens between teenagers and parents just because conflict happens between human beings anyway. Humans have different needs, different feelings, different opinions about what they want, and the relationship with people can be really difficult. However, teenagers can cause further conflict because of the hormonal (生理的) changes that are happening and the stage of life that they’re in.
Teenagers and parents have different understanding about rules and at times they find it difficult to look into the future. So parents and teenagers will often experience conflict about many things, such as doing chores and homework, whether teenagers speak respectfully or not and about what they’re allowed to do.
Before we think about rule boundaries (界线) for teenagers, we need to make sure that we have a really good relationship base. There’s no point saying “From now on, you have to listen to me”: if you don’t have a positive relationship with your teenager. We need to go back and make sure there is some degree of shared respect, and some degree of positive communication and enjoyment being together. If you do that first, it means that rule boundaries are a lot easier to set up.
Often we’re dealing with conflict on the fly. This is not the right time to be dealing with it. We really want parents and teenagers to sit down and think about the kinds of things that may happen in the house before the problems come. The more detailed your rule boundaries are for teenagers, the more likely it is that they are going to follow them. So this means we don’t have rule boundaries like “Have the bathroom cleaned”. It needs to be “The floors mopped, nothing on the countertop and the mirrors cleaned by ten o’clock every Saturday”: Rule boundaries need to be written down, and set out ahead of time so the teenager knows exactly what’s expected.
32.What’s important to set up a rule boundary easily for teenagers?
A.Being strict from the start.
B.Developing a good relationship with them first.
C.Saying “No” to their requirements.
D.Avoiding close talks with them.
33.Which of the following rules are teenagers most likely to follow?
A.Doing some housework.
B.Having a good reading habit.
C.Cleaning the bathroom.
D.Finishing your homework by five.
34.What do the underlined words “on the fly” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.In a hurry. B.On the plane.
C.By oneself. D.Another day.
35.What’s the best title for the text?
A.Growing Pains
B.Teenage Problems
C.Parent-Child Conflict and Solutions
D.Knowing the Conflict

“Why she let out my secret? why she did that to me?” I vividly remembered that day when I was confused at the knowing looks which everyone gave me. That terrible experience was imprinted (铭刻) on my mind.I couldn’t forgive the person with whom I had shared my secret. She lost all my trust and friendship.
Five years back, Sally was a new addition in our class. I don’t know what but there was something sticky (吸引人的) about her that attracted me towards her. She was the most friendly person I knew. We started as classmates but after a few months we were like best friends. We did homework together and dreamed of going to the same university one day. We hung out and went to the movies on weekends. That was a sweet time.
Nevertheless, I couldn’t expect such an enormous betrayal (背叛) from her. I didn’t know what made me tell Sally about my personal life. I felt much regret to myself. She exaggerated (夸大) the matter, added her own spices to it and made it the hottest topic in school. It was like someone had stabbed (刺,捅) a knife in my back. After she revealed my secret, everyone at school started laughing at me and gazing at me wherever I passed.I was like a pond in which someone had thrown a stone and it had been spilled up. It was the most embarrassing time I had gone through. Soon afterwards, I left school and shifted to another one, because I thought no one had the right to laugh at me. Sally called me many times but I didn’t answer. My heart was broken because the person whom I trusted most cheated me.
I made efforts to remove the scar from my heart. I started a new life, leaving all the bad memories behind, because they made me a person who often thought about the past experiences. Five years later, with the life going on, I made new friends and seldom thought about the past.
But one day I met Anna in the market, my former classmate, who told me shocking news. Anna said that after I left school the gossip (流言蜚语) soon disappeared.Everyone in our class missed me. Because I left without saying goodbye, Sally was sad for a long time. And to my amazement, she told me that Sally was not the one who brought my secret to light. It was Mary who had a big mouth and always wanted to put her nose in other people’s matters. She happened to overhear my conversation with Sally. I was all at sea, feeling that the floor had slipped away beneath my feet. Anxious and regretful, I asked Anna for any contact with Sally.
注意:续写词数应为80左右。
I immediately called Sally in order to explain the misunderstanding.

60.videos [考查名词的数。根据上文some可知video应用复数形式。故填videos。]
61.which [考查定语从句。非限制性定语从句修饰先行词some short videos,在句中作主语,指物。故填which。]
62.in [考查介词。结合句意可知,随着他对篮球的热爱越来越深,他从未向自己的厄运屈服。give in 意为“屈服”。故填in。]
63.becoming [考查非谓语动词。结合句意可知,这个独臂少年梦想成为一名篮球运动员。dream of/about doing sth 意为“梦想做某事”。故填becoming。]
64.fullest [考查比较等级。句意:他在尽情地过着自己独特的生活。短语live life to the fullest表示“充分地、尽情地生活”。故填fullest。]
65.extremely [考查词性转换。此处应用副词extremely修饰形容词 thankful。故填extremely。]

Dear Worried Friend,
I’m sorry to hear that your friend Chen Lei is addicted to computer games. Now I’d like to give you some advice on how to deal with it.
To start with, it is important to tell him that spending too much time online is unhealthy and makes it very difficult to focus on his studies. In addition, you may as well encourage your friend to try new hobbies like playing the guitar or playing basketball. Last but not least, why not take part in some outdoor activities together? I am sure he will listen to you, since you are his good friend.
All the best.
Yours,
Li Hua

【参考范文】
I immediately called Sally in order to explain the misunderstanding. After getting through, I sincerely apologized to her. She said softly: “Never mind.We are good friends.” I was in tears, guilty and joyful. At that moment, I wished it had not happened.I wished time could go back and I could correct my mistake. From that I got a lesson in life that we should learn to trust our loved ones, because a little mistake can lead us to ruin what we should value. Trust is the foundational principle that holds friendship. Trust is also the easiest thing in the world to lose. We need to be open and trust our friends.
