When I was a little boy, I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. My mother was an emergency room nurse, so I would often go to the hospital with her and watch her care for patients. When I was in high school and began taking biology, I realized how much I loved science and the idea of one day working with children.
One experience that stands out to me was volunteering at a children’s hospital during my undergraduate years. I had the opportunity to work with children who had cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. These children had been through so much at such a young age, yet they were so brave and strong. I knew then that I wanted to help children like them.
During my undergraduate years, I pursued my goal by majoring in biology and chemistry. These courses laid a solid groundwork in the sciences, which is necessary in the medical profession. In addition, I devoted time to shadowing pediatricians (儿科医生) and volunteering at clinics to gain a full understanding of the field. These experiences exposed me to the hands-on nature of pediatrics (儿科学) and the opportunity to assist families during challenging times.
As I advanced in my studies, I developed a growing interest in the research aspect of medicine. I participated in multiple research projects, such as a study on childhood asthma (哮喘) and its correlation with academic performance. This involvement gave me insight into the significance of research in advancing our understanding of pediatric illnesses and their treatments.
One of the aspects of pediatrics that I find most rewarding is the opportunity to build relationships with patients and their families. Children are not just patients; they are individuals with unique needs and personalities. As a pediatrician, I am responsible for understanding those needs and providing care tailored to each child.
24. What impressed the author most about the kids?
A. Their optimism and patience. B. Their courage and toughness.
C. Their kindness and curiosity. D. Their sincerity and cuteness.
25. What is implied in the author’s undergraduate years?
A. He studied rare illnesses in kids. B. He published an academic paper.
C. He combined learning and practice. D. He helped cure a child with asthma.
26. Why does the author find his job meaningful?
A. He valued care between people. B. He could keep a youthful mind.
C. He could hear kids’ laughter. D. He longed to try new things.
27. Which words can best describe the author?
A. Considerate and modest. B. Observant and upright.
C. Humorous and helpful. D. Determined and responsible.

Google Translate has improved significantly over the years. Initially, it relied on statistical machine translation (SMT), which analyzed many translated texts to predict the most likely translations. However, in recent years, Google has switched to neural (神经的) machine translation (NMT), which uses deep learning models to improve accuracy by understanding context rather than just individual words.
The system works by translating entire sentences instead of translating word by word. This produces more natural-sounding results, especially for European languages, which share similar structures. However, for more complex language pairs, particularly those with major grammatical differences, the accuracy is lower.
Several studies have been conducted to measure the accuracy of Google Translate, including research from the UCLA Medical Center. The results show that while the tool works well with commonly spoken languages, it has difficulty with complex sentence structures and less commonly translated texts. A study by Slator found that Google Translate’s accuracy largely depends on the specific language pairs. For example, translations between English and Spanish are often better than translations involving Asian or African languages, where grammatical structures and cultural differences are very different.
Moreover, research from Smartling indicates that Google Translate is most suitable for basic communication rather than professional or legal translations. While it can provide a general idea of a text’s meaning, it often falls short of delivering correct translations for specialized fields like medicine, law, or marketing.
Despite improvements, Google Translate is not free from errors. First, the tool sometimes translates phrases word-for-word, resulting in unnatural or incorrect meanings. Second, sentence structures may be incorrect, especially in non-European languages. Additionally, Google Translate has trouble with ambiguous (含糊的) words or cultural differences that require deeper understanding. AI translations often lose the meaning of phrases that are unique to a specific culture.
28. How does NMT differ from SMT?
A. It takes advantage of big data. B. It focuses on structural changes.
C. It gives diverse translation results. D. It stresses relations between lines.
29. What can be inferred from Google Translate-related studies?
A. It works poorly for all non-European languages.
B. Some language pairs produce better results than others.
C. Its translations in legal fields are fully reliable.
D. Cultural differences have little effect on translation.
30. What does the underlined phrase “falls short of” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Try one’s best. B. Make a quick decision.
C. Fail to meet the standard. D. Fall a very short distance.
31. What is an improvement direction for Google Translate?
A. Fewer grammar mistakes. B. Unique user experiences.
C. Quicker responses. D. Offline translation.

Some universities in China and around the world are making changes to the ways in which they deliver liberal arts (文科) subjects, with some subjects being removed. These changes have caused a lot of discussion in China with some questioning the long-term benefits of these subjects and others saying their removal is leading to a global reduction in the liberal arts.
Universities have the right and the responsibility to ensure their courses best equip their students to gain more chances in the job market. Education resources tend to be concentrated on science and engineering subjects that lead to better jobs, and this tendency (趋势) is becoming increasingly clear, driven by market demand.
Liberal arts subjects aim to improve life and society. In this sense, the more developed a society is, the more liberal arts are needed. Human development requires liberal arts that keep up with the times. Today, what we need is the kind of humanities and social sciences that can adapt to modern society, which is advancing in science and technology. Liberal arts must welcome the Internet, big data, AI, cloud computing, and so on. The change of liberal arts subjects in universities is unavoidable.
In modern university education, the humanities are increasingly serving as general education. Future-centered humanities education should not and cannot, promise a clear path from specialization to a specific career as natural sciences might. Instead, it should focus on offering a liberal arts education that equips future scientists, technicians, and professionals with humanistic qualities. This education doesn’t provide specific job skills, but aims to cultivate (培养) citizens with critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to think on one’s own. Liberal arts should have the ability to provide effective “public products” for society. They are not material or technological products, but thoughts, discourses (话语), and theories.
32. Why are some liberal arts subjects removed?
A. They are difficult to master. B. Their benefits show slowly.
C. They need more resources. D. Their views are imaginary.
33. How can liberal arts subjects keep up with the times?
A. By providing hands-on chances. B. By focusing on practical topics.
C By using popular academic terms. D. By opening doors to technologies.
34. Which of the following do liberal arts aim to cultivate?
A. Sense of humour. B. Independent thinking.
C. Self reflection ability. D. Self-learning ability.
35. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. Are liberal arts losing ground? B. Liberal arts: basis for sciences
C. Will liberal arts make changes? D. Liberal arts: searching for truth

Cats are known for their independent and aloof (冷漠的) nature. ___36___ While every cat is unique, there are some signs you can look for to determine if your cat will get along with other cats.
___37___ If your cat curves its back upward, it’s a clear sign that they are not comfortable with the new companion. On the other hand, if your cat approaches the other cat with curiosity, it’s a good sign that they may be open to interacting.

If your cat is comfortable sharing food, water, and litter boxes with the new cat, it suggests that they are willing to coexist peacefully. ___39___ However, if your cat shows guarding behavior around resources, it may indicate a potential for fights.
Finally, it’s important to give your cats time to adapt to each other. Building a relationship between cats takes patience and understanding, so don’t expect them to become best friends overnight. Allow your cats to interact at their own speed and provide plenty of opportunities for positive experiences together. ___40___

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之成为一篇完整的短文。
Nancy stepped into the high school hallway with a pounding heart. It was her first week, and she clutched her notebook tightly, scanning the crowd for familiar faces. Back in middle school, she’d learned that smiling widely and agreeing with everyone kept her from being lonely. “I’ll just do what works,” she thought to herself.
At lunch, she spotted a girl with curly hair sitting alone by the window. “Hi! I’m Nancy. Mind if I join you?” she asked, already pulling out a chair. The girl looked up — Alice, according to the name tag on her desk. “Sure,” Alice said, but her tone was flat.
Nancy spent the next two weeks trying to win Alice over. She saved the last chocolate in her lunch box for her, laughed loudly at her jokes even when she didn’t get them, and copied Alice’s notes word for word, hoping to spark conversations. “Your handwriting is so neat!” she’d say. Alice would just nod and turn back to her book.
One afternoon, Nancy lingered by the classroom door, holding a drawing she’d made of Alice’s favorite band. Through the half-open door, she heard voices. It was Alice, talking to a friend. “Nancy’s so annoying,” Alice said. “She agrees with everything I say and brings me things every day. It’s like she’s trying too hard to please everyone. Such a people-pleaser.”
The drawing slipped from Nancy’s hand. Her throat felt tight, and her eyes stung. She ran to the bathroom, locked herself in a stall, and stared at her reflection in the mirror. For the first time, her old way of making friends didn’t just feel tiring — it hurt. She thought about all the times she’d pretended to like things she hated, just to fit in. Was this really what friendship meant?
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸相应位置作答。
Lying in bed, Nancy kept thinking about this question.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day, Alice commented on a film, but Nancy didn’t nod.

【原文】 W: I was born in Charlotte in North Carolina. I lived there until I was twenty-six years old. I often traveled to the cities nearby such as Matthews and Mooresville. As a result, I was very familiar with the natural setting of the state. Then I moved to Columbus with my husband after we got married. We had a daughter there. When my daughter Florence was six years old, we moved back to Charlotte. For me, it was a wonderful feeling to be back in such a familiar natural setting, but my daughter was not happy about it. She had just moved away from the only home she had ever known, and wasn’t yet connected here. I decided to help her know her new home better. Since I wasn’t working then, I decided to draw pictures. So I began drawing pictures for her of the native North Carolina plants and animals. To my joy, my daughter really loved what I drew. As a result, I drew more and more. Two years later, my daughter was already in love with her new home and my first book about North Carolina came out. Now you can call me an artist.

【答案】24. B 25. C 26. A 27. D

【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. A

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了谷歌翻译从统计机器翻译到神经机器翻译的发展,分析了其工作方式、不同语言对的翻译表现、适用场景及现存问题(如语法错误、文化差异处理不足等)。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“Initially, it relied on statistical machine translation (SMT), which analyzed many translated texts to predict the most likely translations. However, in recent years, Google has switched to neural (神经的) machine translation (NMT), which uses deep learning models to improve accuracy by understanding context rather than just individual words.(最初,它依赖统计机器翻译(SMT),这种翻译方式会分析大量已翻译文本以预测最可能的译文。然而,近年来,谷歌转向了神经机器翻译(NMT),它使用深度学习模型,通过理解语境而非仅关注单个单词来提高准确性。)”可知,NMT与SMT的区别在于NMT注重理解语境,而非SMT仅依赖文本分析。故选D项。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“A study by Slator found that Google Translate’s accuracy largely depends on the specific language pairs. For example, translations between English and Spanish are often better than translations involving Asian or African languages, where grammatical structures and cultural differences are very different.(Slator的一项研究发现,谷歌翻译的准确性在很大程度上取决于特定的语言组合。例如,英语和西班牙语之间的翻译通常比涉及亚洲或非洲语言的翻译效果更好,因为这些语言的语法结构和文化差异非常大。)”可知,不同语言组合的翻译效果存在差异,部分语言组合的翻译结果优于其他组合。故选B项。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中“Moreover, research from Smartling indicates that Google Translate is most suitable for basic communication rather than professional or legal translations. While it can provide a general idea of a text’s meaning, it often falls short of delivering correct translations for specialized fields like medicine, law, or marketing.(此外,来自Smartling的研究表明,谷歌翻译最适合基础交流,而非专业或法律领域的翻译。虽然它能让人了解文本的大致意思,但在医学、法律或营销等专业领域,它往往______提供准确的译文。)”可知,前文明确谷歌翻译不适合专业领域,且“while”表转折,强调其在基础交流中能发挥作用,但在专业领域无法达到“提供准确译文”的要求,结合语境可推断,“falls short of”表达“无法达到某种标准或要求”的含义。故选C项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Despite improvements, Google Translate is not free from errors. First, the tool sometimes translates phrases word-for-word, resulting in unnatural or incorrect meanings. Second, sentence structures may be incorrect, especially in non-European languages. Additionally, Google Translate has trouble with ambiguous (含糊的) words or cultural differences that require deeper understanding.(尽管有所改进,谷歌翻译仍存在错误。 故选A项。
D
C. By using popular academic terms. D. By opening doors to technologies.
34. Which of the following do liberal arts aim to cultivate?
A. Sense of humour. B. Independent thinking.
C. Self reflection ability. D. Self-learning ability.
35. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. Are liberal arts losing ground? B. Liberal arts: basis for sciences
C. Will liberal arts make changes? D. Liberal arts: searching for truth
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. B 35. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章围绕国内外部分大学调整或取消文科课程的现象展开,分析了这一变化的原因(市场对理工科的偏好),探讨了文科的价值、与时俱进的方式(融入科技)及培养目标,并回应了关于文科地位下降的讨论。
【32题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“Universities have the right and the responsibility to ensure their courses best equip their students to gain more chances in the job market. Education resources tend to be concentrated on science and engineering subjects that lead to better jobs, and this tendency (趋势) is becoming increasingly clear, driven by market demand.(大学有责任也有权利确保其课程能够最大程度地帮助学生提升自身能力,从而在就业市场中获得更多机会。教育资源往往倾向于集中于能带来更好就业前景的科学和工程类学科,这种趋势正愈发明显,且是由市场需求所驱动的)”可知,大学为提升学生就业机会,将教育资源更多投向理工科,而文科的价值体现往往需要较长时间,无法直接快速转化为就业优势。由此推知,一些文科科目因“好处显现较慢”而被调整或取消。故选B。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Today, what we need is the kind of humanities and social sciences that can adapt to modern society, which is advancing in science and technology. Liberal arts must welcome the Internet, big data, AI, cloud computing, and so on. The change of liberal arts subjects in universities is unavoidable.(如今,我们所需要的是一种能够适应现代社会的人文和社会科学。现代社会在科技方面不断进步。文科必须接纳互联网、大数据、人工智能、云计算等等。大学里文科课程的变革是不可避免的)”可知,文科为适应科技发展的现代社会,必须积极引入并融合互联网、大数据、人工智能等新技术。故选D。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“This education doesn’t provide specific job skills, but aims to cultivate (培养) citizens with critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to think on one’s own.(这种教育并不传授具体的职业技能,而是旨在培养具有批判性思维、跨文化意识以及独立思考能力的公民)”可知,文科所旨在培养的是独立思考能力。故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。全文开头指出多国高校文科科目调整与取消引发讨论,中间分析这一现象受就业市场驱动,并提出文科应拥抱科技以与时俱进,结尾强调文科在通识教育与人的综合素质培养中具有不可替代的价值。整篇文章围绕“文科是否逐渐失去重要地位?”这一核心问题展开。所以A选项“文科正在失势吗?”故选A。

Cats are playful creatures by nature. ___38___ If your cat and the new cat are chasing each other, it’s a positive indicator that they are getting along well. On the other hand, if one cat is constantly hiding or avoiding the other, it may be a sign of tension.
Cats can be territorial (领地的) animals, so how they react to sharing can be a good indicator of their acceptance.
A. They desire to make friends with other cats.
B. Playing with another cat can be a sign of acceptance.
C. Your cat’s body language might be a useful indicator.
D. That doesn’t mean they can’t get along with other animals.
E. With time and proper care, many cats can coexist peacefully.

根据前文“Cats are known for their independent and aloof nature.(猫咪以独立和冷漠的天性著称)”,以及后文“While every cat is unique, there are some signs you can look for to determine if your cat will get along with other cats.(虽然每只猫都独一无二,但仍有一些迹象能帮你判断它是否能与其他猫咪相处)”可知,此空需转折衔接“猫咪天性”与“能否和同类相处”,打破“冷漠就无法共处”的固有认知。D选项“That doesn’t mean they can’t get along with other animals.(但这并不意味着它们无法与其他动物相处)”符合语境。故选D项。
【37题详解】
根据后文“If your cat curves its back upward, it’s a clear sign that they are not comfortable with the new companion. On the other hand, if your cat approaches the other cat with curiosity, it’s a good sign that they may be open to interacting.(如果你的猫弓起背部,这是个明显的信号,说明它对新来的同伴感到不安。相反,如果你的猫带着好奇心靠近另一只猫,那就是个好迹象 —— 这表明它可能愿意与之互动)”可知,此空需总起“通过猫咪肢体动作判断相处可能性”的主题,作为段落主旨。C选项“Your cat’s body language might be a useful indicator.(你家猫咪的肢体语言可能是个有用的判断依据)”符合语境。故选C项。
【38题详解】
根据前文“Cats are playful creatures by nature.(猫咪天生爱玩耍)”,以及后文“If your cat and the new cat are chasing each other, it’s a positive indicator that they are getting along well. (如果你的猫和新来的猫互相追逐,这是它们相处融洽的积极信号)”可知,此空需衔接“猫咪爱玩耍”与“通过玩耍判断相处情况”,建立“玩耍行为”与“接受同类”的关联。B选项“Playing with another cat can be a sign of acceptance.(和另一只猫玩耍可能是接受对方的信号)”符合语境。故选B项。
【39题详解】
根据前文“If your cat is comfortable sharing food, water, and litter boxes with the new cat, it suggests that they are willing to coexist peacefully.(如果你的猫愿意和新来的猫分享食物、水和猫砂盆,这表明它愿意和平共处)”,以及后文“However, if your cat shows guarding behavior around resources, it may indicate a potential for fights.(但如果你的猫在资源周围表现出守护行为,可能意味着有争斗风险)”可知,此空需进一步举例“猫咪愿意共享资源”的表现,强化“和平共处”的信号。G选项“Some cats are even willing to share the same sleeping area.(有些猫甚至愿意共享同一个睡觉区域)”符合语境。故选G项。
【40题详解】
根据前文“Finally, it’s important to give your cats time to adapt to each other... Allow your cats to interact at their own speed and provide plenty of opportunities for positive experiences together.(最后,给猫咪时间互相适应很重要……让它们按自己的节奏互动,为它们创造更多积极共处的机会)”可知,此空需总结“耐心引导”的最终结果,收束全文。E选项“With time and proper care, many cats can coexist peacefully.(只要有时间和适当的照顾,很多猫咪都能和平共处)符合语境。故选E项。

第二节(满分25分)
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸相应位置作答。
Lying in bed, Nancy kept thinking about this question.

The next day, Alice commented on a film, but Nancy didn’t nod.

【答案】范文
Lying in bed, Nancy kept thinking about this question. She recalled how she’d forced herself to gush about Alice’s favorite pop singer even though she preferred classical music, and how she’d pretended to love spicy noodles just to match Alice’s taste at lunch. Each memory made her chest feel heavier. “If being myself means being lonely, maybe loneliness is better than feeling like a fake,” she whispered. Suddenly, she sat up — she’d rather have no friends than keep hiding who she was. Tomorrow, she decided, she’d stop trying so hard to please.
The next day, Alice commented on a film, but Nancy didn’t nod. “It was so boring — I fell asleep halfway through,” Alice sighed. Normally, Nancy would have agreed, but this time she shook her head. “Actually, I loved the ending! It felt so real,” she said, holding her breath. To her surprise, Alice’s eyes lit up. “Really? I thought I was the only one who hated the bad reviews. Let’s talk about it at lunch!” Nancy smiled — for the first time, it felt like a real one.
