1. surprises at the studio
They looked at me in surprise.
To my surprise, he walked out without saying a word.
Give him a piece of paper and he’ll surprise you.

surprise v. 使惊奇
surprising adj. (事物)令人惊奇的
surprised adj. (人)感到惊奇的
I’m surprised at the surprising news.

go 意为“开始(活动)”。
Five minutes to go.是There is (only) five minutes to go.的缩略形式。
2. 本课涉及到的几个介词:
1) The hot lights were shining down upon them.
upon意为“在……之上”,表示在某个物体之上,而且两个物体表面相连接;与介词on用法、意义相同,只是比on更正式。
We sat upon/on the grass and had a talk for an hour.
我们坐在草地上谈了一个小时。
3) Who among you wants to be on TV?
2) He led her onto the stage.
onto,介词,常与动词连用,表示朝/向某处或某位置运动;on 通常指地点。
The child jumped onto the bed.孩子跳上床。

among意为“在……中,……之一”。

他是最后离开者之一。
forward adv. 向前
【知识拓展】
look forward to意为“盼望,期待”,其中to为介词,后接名词/代词/动名词作宾语,即look forward to sth./ doing sth. 注意to后不可以接动词原形。
我很期待出国。
I look forward to going abroad.
他向前走了两步。
He took two steps forward.

介词for 后面接名词或代词;
这个句型也可以写成:
It is time (for sb) to do sth
意为“该(某人)做某事的时间了”。
例如:
该睡觉了。
It’s time for bed.= It’s time to go to bed.
他们该回课室了。
It’s time for them to go back to the
classroom.
3. Although Angela was not prepared, she seemed relaxed and did really well.
although/though作连词,意为“尽管;虽然”,用来引导状语从句,一般不能与并列连词 but, and, so 等连用。
虽然那个戒指很贵,但我还是决定买它.
Although the ring was so expensive, I still decided to buy it.
relaxed adj. 放松的,冷静的
relax v. 使......放松
不要太紧张,放松自己。
Don’t be too nervous and just relax yourself.
轻音乐能使你放松自己。

4. She answered the questions with no problems and was soon ahead of the other two contestants.
with常见的用法:
1) 表示具有,意为“带有,有着”。
He is writing with a pen.
他正在用钢笔写字。
2) 表示手段或方法,意为“以…,用…”.
China is a country with a long history.
中国是一个有着悠久历史的国家。
ahead of prep. 在......之前
1) (地点上) 在...之前= in front of
他走在我们之前。
He is walking ahead of us.
2) (时间上) ahead of time = in advance
请提前告诉我们。
Pleas tell us ahead of time.
3) ahead of = do better than
Angela 不久就比别人做得好。
Angela was soon ahead of others.
5. Denise was so excited that she could hardly keep still.
There is something wrong with her eyes, so she could hardly see anything. 她眼睛有问题因此她几乎看不见东西。
1) hardly adv. “几乎不”,是一个表示否定意义的词。
hard和hardly用作副词时,词义差别很大.
He works hard. 他努力工作。
He hardly works. 他几乎不工作。
Denise was so excited that she could hardly keep still.
丹尼斯兴奋到几乎不能保持平静。
1) so ... that ... 如此…… 以致……
that 引导结果状语从句,so 后面接形容词或副词。
当that 后面接肯定句时可转换为
“adj. / adv.+enough+to do sth
(足够……做某事)”;
当that 后接否定句时可转换为
“too ... to do sth(太……而不能做某事)”。
例如:
The boy was so smart that he could answer all the questions.
那个男孩如此聪明以致能回答所有问题。
那个男孩够聪明,回答了所有问题。
The boy was smart enough to answer all the questions.
他跑得那么慢,没能赢得比赛。
He ran so slowly that he couldn’t win the game.
他跑得太慢无法赢得比赛。
He ran too slowly to win the game.
2)still adj. 平静的;安静的
那天晚上很宁静。
The night was very still.
一切是多麽寂静啊!
How still everything is!
3)keep still 保持静止;保持不动
站在那里,不许动。
Stand there and keep still.
你能多久保持不动?
How long can you keep still?
Though the questions were getting more and more difficult, Angela kept getting them right.

keep doing sth. 持续做某事

2) keep v. 保存,保持。常用的搭配有:
keep doing 继续做……
keep sb. doing 使某人继续做……
keep + adj. 保持……状态
The baby kept crying. 这婴儿老是哭。
They kept her working all day. 他们让她整天工作。
when you are in danger, please keep calm. 当你有危险时,请保持冷静。

1) six more 再多六个,再/又六个
“数词+more” 表示“又(多)几个,再
(多)几个的意思,相当于“another+数
词”。 例如:
他又多吃了两个苹果。
He ate two more apples.
= He ate another two apples.

= Could you tell me another one story?
2) beat v. 赢;打败(某人)
beat的宾语是比赛、竞争的对手,指人或
球队的名词或代词.过去式分词是:
beat-beat-beaten.
我们发挥很好,打败了他们。
We played very well, and we beaten them.
win的宾语是比赛、战争、奖品、金钱等名词,即race, match, game,competition, war, prize之类的词。
这次比赛他们赢了。
They won the match this time.
single adj. 仅有一个的;单个的
single用作名词表示“单个;单身者;单打比赛;单人房”。
他赢了四场单打赛。
He has won four singles.
树上仅挂着一个苹果。
There is a single apple hanging from the tree.
victory n. 胜利;成功
他在竞选中获胜了。
He won a victory in the election.
市民举行了一场盛大的聚会庆祝他们的胜利。
People in the city held a great party to
